BEAT OF THE EARTH- ST (: 60s underground psych)Label:STONED CIRCLE (UK) After being discovered by fans of '60s underground psychedelia in the late 1980s, the sole self-titled 1967 album by Orange County band Beat Of The Earth has grown into a classic within the field, in spite of its rarity. The improvisational music on the album cannot be easily categorized, but most would agree that it represents a unique link between mid-1960s California and the droning acid rock of the later era. From a preternatural surf-era 45 and a local b-movie soundtrack, Phil Pearlman's ascent (or descent) presents a fascinating slice of music history for anyone to chew on. Unbeknown to Pearlman and friends, they had unleashed a primal head record that astounds still. Recorded in 1967 in Hollywood with legendary producer Jim Sidore, Beat Of The Earth's legacy remains as fresh and inventive today as it did in 1967. Stoned Circle proudly presents a collision of vision and artistry. Professionally re-mastered original sound recording with expansive liners, interviews and rare archival photos. CD $17 SKU:17744

FALCO TAV Sugar Ditch Revisited/The Shake Rag DBL CDLabel:STAG-O-LEE (GERMANY) The Tav Falco & Panther Burns reissue/remaster series, part two. This one contains the Sugar Ditch Revisited EP (1985) and The Shake Rag EP (1986). Plus a previously-unreleased 11-song/45 minute live show from the Messepalast Vienna from 1989. Pristine recording by the ORF! Sugar Ditch Revisited -- a modest album with a huge cast of the crème of Memphis musicians joining Panther Burns. Jim Dickinson produced the record alongside Roland James, pioneer guitarist on the early Jerry Lee Lewis sides, twirling the knobs at the control board. This record featured two songs Dickinson had found on tapes discarded by Stax during the last days of the studio's existence. Sir Mac Rice an ex-Falcon penned "Tina, The Go Go Queen" and "Money Talks." For these numbers Andrew Love and Ben Cauley were brought in from the Memphis Horns to add that lush and signature lilt of the laid-back "Memphis sound." Alex Chilton played his new guitar -- a rusty Mosrite, the bassist Rene Coman came up from New Orleans for the sessions, Ross Johnson whipped the skins, and a bevy of girlfriends sang backing vocals. Shake Rag -- Panther Burns recorded this dark and lugubrious mini-album at the Sam Phillips Recording Service in Memphis in 1986. While this was the boom period for lavish alternative, new wave, and no wave music productions, there were only three stalwarts responsible for this record: Jim Dickinson producer, keyboardist, guitarist, Ross Johnson on percussion, and Tav Falco on guitar and voice. There is a raw primitivism howling from these tracks and an unbridled intensity not heard from the band in recorded form since their first record Behind the Magnolia Curtain. Live at Messepalast is a collection of songs cut from a wild and wooly two-hour show on Panther Burns' second tour of Europe in 1989. ORF (Austrian National Radio) was there recording the whole mess in ultra high-fidelity, and the result is what you will hear on this record. Two CDs in 12" replica sleeves, the live show is added to the Shake Rag EP. Includes a 32-page booklet featuring extensive liner notes by Tav Falco himself. Packaged in a special deluxe wraparound wallet sleeve. CD $19 SKU:17747

PURPLE IMAGE- ST ( great 60s powerful psych)Label:STONED CIRCLE (UK) Professionally re-mastered original sound recording with expansive liners and rare archival photos. Cleveland's Purple Image faced an uphill climb in an era and country that expected "negro" music from its "negroes": In a Hendrix landscape, young, black bands had slowly started to emerge from the soul neighborhoods and R&B backdrop. Purple Image traded on a thumping, harder-than-Parliament psychedelic noise fortified by powerful group vocals and the twin guitar attack of Ken Roberts and Frank Smith. Aside from their singles and super rare album, they managed only a few profile gigs with the likes of Steppenwolf and Country Joe as a local support act. However, along with bands such as Black Merda, Fugi, Pure Hell and Death, Purple Image would inevitably lay the foundations for future black crossover acts such as Fishbone, Bad Brains, Living Colour. Stoned Circle proudly presents the intoxicating head sounds of Cleveland's psychedelic upstarts. Equipped with the essential period quota of fuzz, wah-wah and organ, their sound could best be described as: "purple with yellow flashes". CD $17 SKU:17743

RESTOCKS

ALBRIGHT , CHARLES - Weight/I Am The Counter Culture (Drop Out-) PIC SLV SAALE Label:PERMANENT RECORDS Blown out, lo-fi, catchy punk jammer with loads of hooks and sweet riffs to complete the trifecta. Albright's still a fine young man and he's doing so well. He's still on drugs and he's still happy he's a genius (and so are we), but he's not singing about any of that on this record. This Sacto punk has brutalized us twice before, but never quite like this. The third time's definitely a charm and even though Charles is no longer a loner he is still absolutely in charge on this one. 'Weight' finds Mr. A drumless for the first time ever, but the repetitive riff-tensity hides the lack of percussion pretty damn well on this wham bam-thank-you-ma'am punker. For the B-side, Charles must've taken a ride on the Silver Machine, but he's obviously still feeling mean, 'cuz the riff behind 'I Am The Counter Culture (Drop Out)' sounds quite a bit like a certain Hawkwind jam we all know and love. But this ain't no cover song, '(Drop Out)' stands on its own as a killer psychedelic punk number for the ages. This incredible single is limited to 300 hand-numbered copies and precedes the sure to be mind melting debut full-length due out this Fall. Turn on, Tune In, and '(Drop Out)' while supplies last." 45 RPM $5 SKU:13385

Don't Think I've Forgotten- VA : Cambodia's Lost Rock and Roll 70s -Label:DUST-TO-DIGITAL On April 17, 1975, Phnom Penh fell to the Khmer Rouge and Cambodian rock and roll was no more. Its star musicians were targeted and killed, record collections were destroyed, clubs were closed, and Western-style music-making, dancing, and clothes were outlawed. The deaths of approximately two million Cambodians and the horrors of the Killing Fields have been well-documented; add to this John Pirozzi's fascinating tale of Cambodia's vibrant pop music scene, beginning in the 1950s and '60s, influenced by France's Johnny Hallyday and Britain's Cliff Richard and the Shadows. The filmmaker has assembled rare archival footage, punctuating it with telling interviews with the few surviving musicians. Cambodian culture has long been synonymous with a love for the arts. Pirozzi's 2014 film Don't Think I've Forgotten pays homage to the country's rock legends who paid for their creativity with their lives. Through the eyes, words, and songs of its popular music stars of the '50s, '60s, and '70s, Don't Think I've Forgotten: Cambodia's Lost Rock and Roll examines and unravels Cambodia's recent tragic past. This soundtrack to Pirozzi's important film, compiled by the director, is very cinematic in nature. The sequencing and newly-remastered audio transport the listener through the rock and roll history of Cambodia in a similar fashion as Pirozzi's documentary film. It is both entertaining and essential to hear so many tracks that are available outside of Cambodia for the very first time. Includes tracks by The Royal University of Fine Arts, Sinn Sisamouth, Chhoun Malay, Huoy Meas, Baksey Cham Krong, Ros Serey Sothea, Pen Ran, Sieng Vannthy, Va Sovy, Drakkar, Pou Vannary, Yol Aularong, and Cheam Chansovannary. EVERYWHERE INTERFERENCES - VA ( earliest and rarest '60s US garage psych compilations )-Label:FEED THE MIND Everywhere Interferences is the 1983 follow-up to Everywhere Chainsaw Sound and is rumored to have originated in France. Originally issued as a limited numbered edition of 190 copies, it is one of the earliest and rarest '60s US garage psych compilations produced at the dawn of the compilation LP explosion. This reissue features improved artwork along with the correct running order as well as additional liner notes and photos, filling an important gap in garage psych comp collections across the planet. "In a field full of weeds the earliest garage psych/punk compilations still possess a charm that endears them to collectors. Back in the early 1980s a number of now extremely rare compilations were briefly available via mail order. They almost immediately disappeared onto the shelves of a small but hardcore group of US '60s rock fans. Everywhere Interferences was the second volume of an extremely limited pair of compilations (the first being Everywhere Chainsaw Sound). Both originated in France and were produced microscopic numbered editions of only 100 or so copies. Housed in a plain white card sleeve with primitive artwork these compilations, to this day, remain almost unknown to the majority of '60s US garage psych collectors. Inspired by Elektra's Nuggets LP, 'grey area' compilations such as Pebbles, Boulders, and Acid Dreams (PAPR 1007LP/2094CD/2096CD/2097CD) created a demand for underground compilations that grew into the US garage rock reissue market that has since produced many thousands of records. An unceasing demand for music from probably the most exciting period of rock and roll has turned into a minor industry. Thankfully Everywhere Interferences is once again available with improved sleeve notes and sound. You may have some of these recordings on other compilations but somehow the mystery excitement and sense of discovery that fuelled the first era of the garage rock revival is captured on these iconic records" --Richard Allen, writes for Shindig!, founder of The Freak Emporium in 1991 (now under new management). Includes tracks by Clefs of Lavender Hill, White Lightning, Pied Pipers, The Baskerville Hounds, The Todds, Moonrakers, The Satisfactions, The Cavemen, and The Nomads. - Reissue of the massively rare pioneering '60s US garage punk compilation Everywhere Interferences, originally released in France in 1983 as the follow-up to Everywhere Chainsaw Sound (FTM 001CD/LP).
- Features improved artwork, the correct running order, and additional liner notes and photos.

With a melody like the one found on It Goes Through Your Head, you're going to find that it'll stay there as well, bridging a pop sensibility beginning with Cyndi Lauper, continuing on through '80s pop R&B like Expose and The Jets, and ending with Ms. Gonzalez's winning charm and tremendous voice. SAALE - Label:SHADOKS "Smack was recorded in late July and early August 1968 in Lawrence, Kansas USA. The four Smack members were all summer scholarship music and arts students attending Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas. All music tracks were cut live, only over-dubed lead vocals and background vocals. That year there were some 2800 summer students attending a 6 week summer arts scholarship session - 1800 females and 900 males. Smack was born and played a gig several weeks later and the next thing you know they were all 'stars' of the campus. Someone from the university arranged for them to go in and record an album. An original Smack LP is rare as gold dust. We have only seen 2 copies for sale the past 15 years for massive money. The music is great covers played with extra heavy fuzz guitar, vocals, bass & drums. Those versions of Cream and Hendrix songs are killer. The whole album (very well produced) has a one of a kind psychedelic feel. There are not many cover albums which gives you another perspective on those known songs. This album does for sure."
