DATURA4-BLESSED IS THE BOOGIE -PURPLE VINYL (70s style psych from DOM MARIANI) Label:ALIVE Fronted by Aussie legend Dom Mariani, who came to prominence on the music scene in the 1980s with legendary garage rock combo The Stems, and later went on to form revered power pop outfits DM3 and The Someloves, Datura4 is Mariani’s return to his blues and heads-down, full-tilt boogie roots.
Garagey but not grungey, power-poppy but not cheesy, muddy but not sludgy, blues-respecting but not formulaic, trippy but not spacey, Datura4 is carving out their own niche and clearly incorporate their many influences but, refreshingly, keep them as just that – influences which contribute to the greater Datura4 sound. – GET READY TO ROCK 4 star review) LP $22 SKU:24339

GOSPELBEACH- Let It Burn with NEAL Casal-Now with insert! The first pressing of this title was missing the intended insert, thanks to a pressing plant error. This new pressing on clear green vinyl rectifies that mistake. The collective’s slow-burning ballad “Bad Habits” captures the spirit of the Grateful Dead in the nakedness of 1970 (Workingman’s Dead, American Beauty) and the Band at their best without being burdened by an adherence to a specific era. Straightforward and soul-searing, the tune is a harbinger of the full album’s truth-seeking and deep honesty. – POPMATTERS LP $22 SKU:24360

It wasput together by Alexander Randolph - a singer, promoter, and recordlabel owner from Virginia. The first half of the album was recorded inMuscle Shoals, beginning with the title track by Larry Saunders. On his songs, Saunders' vocals float above and transcend the ethereal backing of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. His voice can be compared to singers like Donny Hathaway and Curtis Mayfield, but Saunders is his own man, with his own style. His work on this album is essential listening in the realm of socially conscious soul music. The second half of the album continues with solid mid-1960 's rarities from Randolph's Sound of Soul label. Their first single 'You Treat Me Bad' rose to the number two position on the top 40 and catapulted the band to regional fame in Michigan. The JuJus initially blended an impressive brand of folk-rock and British-invasion sounds with a raw garage band sound. In 1967 they opted for a more psychedelic sound. KENSINGTON MARKET- Avenue Road (60s pop) LAST COPIES! Label:PACEMAKER A staple on the Yorkville Village scene in Toronto during the mid-to-late '60's, Kensington Market were discovered in 1967 by musical entrepreneur Bernie Finkelstein (who would later help The Paupers and Bruce Cockburn, among others). Finkelstein was able to land the band a record deal with Warner Brothers. In 1968 Kensington Market did the soundtrack to the NFB film "The Ernie Game"—a big deal for a Canadian band. That same year they released their debut album, “Avenue Road,” (named after a street that intersects Yorkville Avenue). It was a modest effort, noteworthy for decent pop instincts and solid songwriting. This album tinkles like wind-chimes, refracts light like a sun-catcher in the window, has the charm of a luminous crescent moon candle, glow-in-the dark stars on the bedroom ceiling. Kensington Market were produced by Felix Pappalardi of Mountain fame, who also produced the Cream. Kensington Market were: Gene Martynec (keyboard, guitar, vocals), Keith McKie (rhythm guitar, vocals), Luke Gibson (guitar, vocals), Alex Darou (bass), and Jimmy Watson (drums & percussion). Same personnel both albums. Martynec later showed up as an arranger on Lou Reed's “Berlin” album! A band ripe for rediscovery. CD $10 SKU:19936

PANDORAS, THE - It's About Time PURPLE! (Psychedelic fuzz goddesses)Label:VOXX Psychedelic fuzz goddesses The Pandoras were the first, and in many ways the most original, of L.A.'s garage revival bands. They transformed the traditional garage sound of their "Pebbles" favorites into a vehicle for an all-girl band in wild day-glo fashions, openly sexual, assertive and outrageous in a time when girl bands were expected to be more like the demure Bangles. This is their landmark Voxx debut album. LP $20 SKU:16313

POPPEES -Pop Goes The Anthology ( Great 70s power pop! ) CLASSIC BLACK VINYL -Label:BOMP The Poppees were one of the creators and the embodiment of what soon came to be known as the "Power Pop" sound of the late 70s. This long overdue anthology finally gives this notable and highly underrated band its due, elegantly chronicling the Poppees short but influential role in the history of the New York New Wave scene of the late 70's. While anchored around their two classic Bomp singles, "If She Cries/Love of The Loved" (the latter track produced by Craig Leon of the Ramones fame), and "Jealousy/She's Got It" (produced by Cyril Jordan of the Flamin' Groovies), "Pop Goes The Anthology" features never before released recordings, including demos, early live recordings, and culminating with a rip-roaring live performance at CBGB. RATIONALS--10” Temptation Bout to get Me (Detroit 60s MC5 STOOGES style ) Label:TOTAL ENERGY LAST COPIES When serious collectors compose lists of the top shoulda-been-bigger bands of the '60s, the Rationals are often among them. Coming out of the same Ann Arbor, MI scene that gave birth to the MC5 and the Stooges, the group's forte was a sort of garageish take on blue-eyed soul, built around the fine RB-hued vocals of frontman Scott Morgan. Their mid-'60s singles, however, didn't break in many areas outside of Michigan (where they had some big local hits), and by the time they got to record an album, they had long passed their peak.the Rationals actually predated the MC5/Stooges by quite some time, both chronologically and stylistically. When they began recording for the local A2 label in 1965, they were, like many garage bands, heavily influenced by the British Invasion, although they gave their material a more soulful flavor than most similar units. "Gave My Love" was a chart-topper in Ann Arbor (and a hit in Detroit), as was a follow-up single of "Respect" (which predated Aretha Franklin's version). Picked up for national distribution by Cameo/Parkway, it nudged into the lowest regions of the national charts as well.” LP $15 SKU:22014

JEREMY DORMOUSE - The Toad Recordings (Legendary Canadian hippie psych rarity from 1967-68 w liners & original cover art) SAALE! -Label:VOID/HALLUCINATIONS (USA) Legendary Canadian hippie psych rarity from 1967-68. One of the hardest to find album collectibles there is. This recording also features a very young Lynda Squires (Reign Ghost) and many other Canadian notables of the day. Original cover art is here as well as liner notes. The master came from the band and sounds great, with male/female interplay throughout. Standout cut is 'Believe Me', a folk gem. There’s also a haunting cover of Leonard Cohen’s 'Suzanne' that is right there as well. This project is also related to the 'Rejects' LP, another lost Canadian rarity. CD $10 SKU:15699

JERUSALEM- ST (Deep Purple related heavy metal)SAALE! - Label:ROCKADROME The first official reissue of this infamous metallic heavy rock album from 1972 produced by Deep Purple's legendary frontman, Ian Gillan. The music is a menacing combination of over-the-top vocals and screaming lead guitars that could easily pass for something from the early 80s New Wave of British Heavy Metal scene, it's that far ahead of it's time. Originally released on the UK Deram/Decca label, and now a favorite among vinyl collectors, the album is presented here from the original master tapes and also features pre-album demos, alternate mixes and a non-lp single track. The 20-page color booklet contains liner notes written by bassist Paul Dean, lyrics, press clippings and rare photos! A musthave for fans of 70s hard rock and also the early 80s NWOBHM sound.." JESTERS OF DESTINY-The Sorrows That Refuse To Drown -SEALED Label:EKTRO These far-reaching tendencies (everything from Black Sabbath to Prince and the Chocolate Watch Band) have caused some to call Jesters of Destiny the first-ever alternative metal band. That term didn’t yet exist in 1986 or even a year later when the Jesters issued their covers collection, In a Nostalgic Mood or even during the sessions for what would have been the group’s third effort, No Laughing Matter. Instead, Duff and Violet preferred to call their band of rock Gleeful Doom, conceding that after all these years they might be siding less with glee than doom. CD $5 SKU:24086

JOHNNY GUITAR WATSON Gangster of Love Collection -4 CD WOODEN BOX SET Label:COLLECTABLES NOT SEALED BUT MINT Packaged longbox style, they represent the seamless fusion of Watson's ability to play blues, old-school R&B, funk and disco all at the same time. There are 27 cuts here, all of them with stellar, elaborate arrangements, and Watson's constant sense of groove is ongoing, whether it's a ballad, a call and response anthem, or a nasty funk jam. Add to this the composer's ability to play the living hell out of the guitar and you have the most successful artist -- outside of B.B. King perhaps -- to wed his original blues to the changing trends in black music of the day. CD $50 SKU:24125

KAWABATA MAKOTO’S MAINLINER -REVELATION SPACE (Japanese undergound psych legends-SALE!Label:RIOT SEASON CD PACKAGED IN A MINATURE VINYL STYLE CARD SLEEVE WITH PRINTED INNER SLEEVE. One of the most celebrated Japanese Underground bands have returned! It may have taken over 12 years, but Kawabata Makoto, guitar guru and head honcho in Acid Mothers Temple, has finally decided to get his celebrated 'psychedelic solid free attack group' back together. Joining original Mainliner members Kawabata Makoto (motorpsycho guitar) and Koji Shimura (drums) is new recruit Kawabe Taigen (bass/vocals) and the trio still kick up one hell of a sonic racket. Confusion surrounds the exact details of the recording, but they seem to date from December 2011, and from Kawabata's mountain top temple studio-cum-home. The man himself, as always, is shying away from sharing too many of the magick details about the Mainliner rebirth. And the stark, minimal black with gold sleeve keeps the mystery intact, apart from the grainy band photo on the rear. All said, 'Revelation Space', is a comeback statement of intent. And it's firmly in the same 'in the red / raw' camp as the original trio's classic 'Mellow Out'. From the initial speaker shaking feedback burst of opener 'Revelation Space', right through to the closing 20-minute epic 'New Sun' (which showcases Taigen's otherworldly howl perfectly) there is no let up in the brutal delivery. This will no doubt delight those Mainliner diehards who never thought they'd see the day again, and all those with a love of over the top guitar howls and punishing feedback levels, but always under pinned by some righteous grooves. PENTAGON -Die Vertreibung der bösen. (70s German blues prog)SAALE! .Label:GARDEN OF DELIGHTS (Germany): "Pentagon was the first group on the small Munich label German Blues and Underground, which later on also released the two Siloah records. The 7” single was supposed to be followed by an LP, but it never got beyond the dubplate/acetate stage, a kind of demo pressing. A music cassette, however, was released, the simple cover of which was used for the LP cover, too. Although very young at the time, the three musicians already played respectable blues rock. The tracks of side 2 of the vinyl album were taken from the master tape, the tracks of side 1 were digitally decrackled by Cedar’s NoNoise system. It’s a first-class find, saved from oblivion in the very last minute. The title means in English “The expulsion of the evil spirits from the Pentagon”. Limited edition of 1000 numbered LPs. Comes with 8-page LP sized booklet. LP $18 SKU:20883
