Originally released in 1971, the album Free Angela was sold to raise money for the National United Committee to Free Angela Davis. It wasput together by Alexander Randolph - a singer, promoter, and recordlabel owner from Virginia. The first half of the album was recorded inMuscle Shoals, beginning with the title track by Larry Saunders. On his songs, Saunders' vocals float above and transcend the ethereal backing of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. His voice can be compared to singers like Donny Hathaway and Curtis Mayfield, but Saunders is his own man, with his own style. His work on this album is essential listening in the realm of socially conscious soul music. The second half of the album continues with solid mid-1960 's rarities from Randolph's Sound of Soul label. Beautiful songs of bittersweet life stories, a waterfall of guitars, and carries the unmistakable mark and sound of Nikki Sudden. Nikki’s first band Swell Maps has been one of the main influences of Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore. Members of REM recorded an album as his backup band in 1992 and the Lemonheads, among others, covered one of his songs. JUJUS - You Treat Me Bad 65-67 (60s garage psych PEbbles style ) Label:CICADELIC RECORDS Since their arrival on the music scene in 1965, the mystique of The JuJus and their lead singer, Ray Hummel, has continued to grow over the ensuing decades (helped along by the inclusion of 'You Treat Me Bad' on the first volume of Pebbles in 1979). Their first single 'You Treat Me Bad' rose to the number two position on the top 40 and catapulted the band to regional fame in Michigan. The JuJus initially blended an impressive brand of folk-rock and British-invasion sounds with a raw garage band sound. In 1967 they opted for a more psychedelic sound. Compiled on this CD are all the JuJu singles, as well as a plethora of unreleased gems from 1965 to 1967. A detailed booklet contains photos, radio surveys, band memorabilia, and a retrospective of The JuJus as related by band member Rod Shepard. KENSINGTON MARKET- Avenue Road (60s pop) LAST COPIES! Label:PACEMAKER A staple on the Yorkville Village scene in Toronto during the mid-to-late '60's, Kensington Market were discovered in 1967 by musical entrepreneur Bernie Finkelstein (who would later help The Paupers and Bruce Cockburn, among others). Finkelstein was able to land the band a record deal with Warner Brothers. In 1968 Kensington Market did the soundtrack to the NFB film "The Ernie Game"—a big deal for a Canadian band. That same year they released their debut album, “Avenue Road,” (named after a street that intersects Yorkville Avenue). It was a modest effort, noteworthy for decent pop instincts and solid songwriting. This album tinkles like wind-chimes, refracts light like a sun-catcher in the window, has the charm of a luminous crescent moon candle, glow-in-the dark stars on the bedroom ceiling. Kensington Market were produced by Felix Pappalardi of Mountain fame, who also produced the Cream. Kensington Market were: Gene Martynec (keyboard, guitar, vocals), Keith McKie (rhythm guitar, vocals), Luke Gibson (guitar, vocals), Alex Darou (bass), and Jimmy Watson (drums & percussion). Same personnel both albums. Martynec later showed up as an arranger on Lou Reed's “Berlin” album! A band ripe for rediscovery. CD $10 SKU:19936

POPPEES -Pop Goes The Anthology ( Great 70s power pop! ) CLASSIC BLACK VINYL -Label:BOMP The Poppees were one of the creators and the embodiment of what soon came to be known as the "Power Pop" sound of the late 70s. This long overdue anthology finally gives this notable and highly underrated band its due, elegantly chronicling the Poppees short but influential role in the history of the New York New Wave scene of the late 70's. While anchored around their two classic Bomp singles, "If She Cries/Love of The Loved" (the latter track produced by Craig Leon of the Ramones fame), and "Jealousy/She's Got It" (produced by Cyril Jordan of the Flamin' Groovies), "Pop Goes The Anthology" features never before released recordings, including demos, early live recordings, and culminating with a rip-roaring live performance at CBGB. It is complete with liner notes and unpublished photos. Only release 1 single in '65. This full length album contains 2 unearthed previous UNRELEASED studio demos from '64 and no less then 14 quality live tracks from the same year. Altogether this makes this an album of classic vintage swaggering British teenage beat/R&B. PREACHERS featured 2 members of the HERD, early STONES drumer Tony Chapman, as well as astonishing young guitarist Steve Carroll, who died in car crash during the recording and was replaced by Peter Frampton. Bill Wyman provided the full story on the band documenting his journey from pre-PREACHERS band THE CLIFTONS to the STONES, with some nice unpublished pictures. Limited 1000 copies and 190 grams. PRIMA DONNA- Nine Lives and Forty Fives - YELLOW VINYL - ROCK AND ROLL! Glitter punk Label:ALIVE Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley on a steady diet of punk and glitter rock, Prima Donna are infamous on the LA scene. Their curriculum includes musical road trips with Eddie and the Hot Rods, Adam Ant, Glen Matlock & The Philistines, The Dictators, and even Green Day, who they supported on two arena tours on two continents. Frontman Kevin Preston has also continued participation in Green Day side-project Foxboro Hot Tubs.

While touring the US and Europe, Prima Donna was in and out of the studio numerous times, both at home in L.A. and in Milan, Italy. The finished product is “Nine Lives and Forty Fives”, a 11-song variety pack that displays the band’s skills in the studio, and compiles some of their rarest and rawest recordings, including “Rock and Roll is Dead,” available for the first time in US. The song was named one of the Top Ten Songs of 2013 by Little Steven’s Underground Garage. LP $15 SKU:16433

RATIONALS--10” Temptation Bout to get Me (Detroit 60s MC5 STOOGES style ) Label:TOTAL ENERGY LAST COPIES When serious collectors compose lists of the top shoulda-been-bigger bands of the '60s, the Rationals are often among them. Coming out of the same Ann Arbor, MI scene that gave birth to the MC5 and the Stooges, the group's forte was a sort of garageish take on blue-eyed soul, built around the fine RB-hued vocals of frontman Scott Morgan. Their mid-'60s singles, however, didn't break in many areas outside of Michigan (where they had some big local hits), and by the time they got to record an album, they had long passed their peak.the Rationals actually predated the MC5/Stooges by quite some time, both chronologically and stylistically. When they began recording for the local A2 label in 1965, they were, like many garage bands, heavily influenced by the British Invasion, although they gave their material a more soulful flavor than most similar units. "Gave My Love" was a chart-topper in Ann Arbor (and a hit in Detroit), as was a follow-up single of "Respect" (which predated Aretha Franklin's version). Picked up for national distribution by Cameo/Parkway, it nudged into the lowest regions of the national charts as well.” LP $15 SKU:22014

KAWABATA MAKOTO’S MAINLINER -REVELATION SPACE (Japanese undergound psych legends-SALE!Label:RIOT SEASON CD PACKAGED IN A MINATURE VINYL STYLE CARD SLEEVE WITH PRINTED INNER SLEEVE. One of the most celebrated Japanese Underground bands have returned! It may have taken over 12 years, but Kawabata Makoto, guitar guru and head honcho in Acid Mothers Temple, has finally decided to get his celebrated 'psychedelic solid free attack group' back together. Joining original Mainliner members Kawabata Makoto (motorpsycho guitar) and Koji Shimura (drums) is new recruit Kawabe Taigen (bass/vocals) and the trio still kick up one hell of a sonic racket. Confusion surrounds the exact details of the recording, but they seem to date from December 2011, and from Kawabata's mountain top temple studio-cum-home. The man himself, as always, is shying away from sharing too many of the magick details about the Mainliner rebirth. And the stark, minimal black with gold sleeve keeps the mystery intact, apart from the grainy band photo on the rear. All said, 'Revelation Space', is a comeback statement of intent. And it's firmly in the same 'in the red / raw' camp as the original trio's classic 'Mellow Out'. From the initial speaker shaking feedback burst of opener 'Revelation Space', right through to the closing 20-minute epic 'New Sun' (which showcases Taigen's otherworldly howl perfectly) there is no let up in the brutal delivery. This will no doubt delight those Mainliner diehards who never thought they'd see the day again, and all those with a love of over the top guitar howls and punishing feedback levels, but always under pinned by some righteous grooves. A music cassette, however, was released, the simple cover of which was used for the LP cover, too. Although very young at the time, the three musicians already played respectable blues rock. The tracks of side 2 of the vinyl album were taken from the master tape, the tracks of side 1 were digitally decrackled by Cedar’s NoNoise system.
