CARPETTES - FIGHT AMONGST YOURSELVES (80s Stones infl)Label:RADIATION RSD 2022 release. Neo-Mod act the Carpettes began as a Stones-influenced school band, formed in the small northeast Norman town of Houghton-le-Spring in the mid-1970s, the trio of frontman Neil Thompson, bassist George Maddison, and drummer Kevin Heard shifting to punk before signing to Small Wonder as a Mod revival act. By the time they joined the Beggar's Banquet roster in 1978, Heard was replaced by Tim Wilder (with Simon Smith of the Merton Parkas briefly in the fold). Sophomore album 'Fight Amongst Yourselves' is arguably their best, the appealing material ranging from the socially-relevant power-pop of the title track and the pop-punk of 'The Reason I'm Lonely' to the reggae cadences of 'The Last Lone LP $28 SKU:25091

FAR OUT- NIHONJIN (WHITE) (Rare 1973 gem)Label:EVERLAND Repress. Some albums are certainly a kind of holy grail for music lovers and collectors of a certain genre, style and era. Far Out with their eponymous debut and unfortunately also farewell album from 1973 have created such a sacred gem. Original copies in good condition change hands for up to $2000 and there are certainly a few not so official reprints on vinyl and CD out on the market which do not even come close to do justice to the greatness of the old original black gold. But here we go with the first ever official vinyl reissue taken directly from the original mastertapes supplied by Nippon Columbia. Everland Music did a brilliant job as usual with their reissues. The cover art with a white glove hanging on a washing line to dry comes on an awesome heavy gatefold sleeve. Including 2 inserts with live photos from back in the day when the band was going wild on stage. This is the real thing for those who still miss the melodies and atmosphere of the late '60s and very early '70s when people had a dream of a peaceful world and who enjoy early German cosmic kraut rock like Amon Düül II, Organisation (later to become Kraftwerk), the debut album by Tangerine Dream and more obscure stuff but also international bands like Pink Floyd, Gong, Twink and Hawkwind just as an East Asian version. A real gem and finally available with the real sound and package again. LP $26 SKU:25093

NUNS-ST (70s S.F. punk on RED /PURPLE VINYL) Label:RADIATION Repress on purple/red vinyl. Classic debut album by original San Francisco punk band led by Alejandro Escovedo (future Rank & File) and Jennifer Miro (Debbie Harry's West Coast counterpart). Although The Nuns ruled the San Francisco punk scene in the late '70s, courted by major labels and selling out shows at San Francisco's hottest clubs, by the time the original band broke up they still had not recorded enough material for a full-length album. Thankfully, however, the band minus Escovedo came together once more for the sake of recording this album before calling it quits. Over the years Jennifer kept the band alive in different forms until her premature death in 2011. This classic slice of '77 punk rock, recorded in just 20 hours in May 1980, is the greatest testimony to the their original line up. LP $26 SKU:25053

OPEN MIND- ST (fantastic 69 Brit psych!)BEER COLORED VINYL - Label:KLIMT he Open Mind was an English psychedelic rock band formed in London, and active in the 1960s and 1970s. The band was formed in 1963 by four musicians from Putney, South West London. Initially named The Apaches and formed by Tim du Feu, Mike Brancaccio and Philip Fox and their friend Ray Nye. Nye left in 1965 and another friend, Terry Schindler, joined instead. The band became The Drag Set, who released a little-known single in February 1967, 'Day And Night'/'Get Out Of My Way.' Shortly thereafter, they changed their name to The Open Mind and in July 1969 released a self-titled LP which has since become a highly sought-after collectible. The band, however, is best known for its druggy August 1969 single 'Magic Potion,' which did not appear on the album. Despite their paucity of recorded material, The Open Mind have proven to be influential in the psychedelic rock genre, their single 'Magic Potion' having been covered by bands such as The Seers, Sun Dial and The Damned. Comes on beer coloured vinyl. LP $24 SKU:25047

HECTOR (UK) -DEMOLITION - THE WIRED UP WORLD OF HECTOR (unreleased junkshop glam gold dust)-Label:RADIATION Never-before-heard unreleased junkshop glam gold dust from the genre's No. 1 band. Portsmouth's Hector are widely regarded as the very best of the junkshop glam rock bands introduced to us in the early 2000s by the RPM's lipsmackin' '70s CD series. Recently discovered archive analogue tape recordings found in the attic of frontman Phil Brown form this unique album. The band's original DJM singles together with 'Demolition', an unreleased third single, join forces with outtakes, demos, live and rehearsal recordings to make this release an unmissable opportunity for glam rock fans worldwide to hear more from the band whose anthem 'Wired Up' has been adopted as a battle cry by a new audience of fans with books, fanzines, radio shows and club nights proudly named after it. Hector's 'Wired Up' was released in 1973. It had all the ingredients of a hit single. It should have topped the charts and launched a spectacular career for the band. In a fair world, the name Hector would be mentioned alongside bands like Sweet and Slade. Unfortunately, timing and luck weren't on their side. The product was there, the press coverage was there, the Radio 1 airplay (which was everything back then) wasn't and the kids that did hear it must have been deaf, dumb and blind. The plug was finally pulled in 1975 after their second single 'Bye Bye Bad Days', another poky punch of proto punk dressed up in a velvet glove, also failed to become a heavy-hitter. 'Demolition - The Wired Up World Of Hector' is not a phoenix from the ashes. It is Pompey* from Pompeii. Tunes from the ruins. Glamour in amber; perfectly preserved. A second chance to make a first impression. Hector are back! Are you watching and listening? CD $16 SKU:24784

ELMER GANTRY’S VELVET OPERA--ST (Top notch UK psych album from 1968)Label:GUERSSEN Top notch UK psych album from 1968, officially reissued on vinyl for the first time. Original artwork, sourced from the original masters, and includes insert with cool photos and liner notes by Mike Stax (Ugly Things). Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera evolved from R&B/soul band The Five Proud Walkers. All of the band members - Elmer Gantry (lead vocals), Colin Forster (guitar), John Ford (bass) and Richard Hudson a.k.a. Hud (drums) - were accomplished musicians with several years of work experience on the on the beat and R&B circuit before their psychedelic rebirth in the summer of 1967. With their colorful image and explosive live shows, the band soon became a favorite on the London club scene, securing a deal with the CBS subsidiary label Direction. In 1967 they released their first single, 'Flames', a minor hit that was even covered by the embryonic Led Zeppelin and was also included on the famous CBS budget compilation album 'The Rock Machine Turns You On'. In early 1968, Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera registered their self-titled debut, now considered a post-mod psychedelic classic. Influences of psych-era Beatles, Who, Small Faces, Beach Boys or early Pink Floyd are noticeable, but the band brings their own personality and offer a set of brilliant and varied songs with inventive arrangements. Highlights include the sitar laden 'Air', the terrific 'Mother Writes', driven by a killer bass line, 'Dream Starts' (a lysergic number complete with backward tapes and vocals-through-a-Leslie), the catchy pop-psych of 'Mary Jane', a terrific cover of Oscar Brown Jr.'s 'I Was Cool', or the Mellotron-fuelled 'Long Nights Of Summer' and 'Reaction Of A Young Man'. By July 1968, when the album was released, Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera had a new lineup. Colin Forster exited, and Paul Brett (ex-Tintern Abbey) took his place. They eventually disbanded in 1969 and a new line-up emerged as Velvet Opera, releasing an album. Later, Elmer played with Stretch and he also recorded with the Alan Parsons Project, Jon Lord, and Cozy Powell. John and Hud went on to success in the seventies with the Strawbs. LP $28 SKU:24937

RIALZU -U Rigiru-OFFICIAL VINYL REISSUE OF 1978 PROG/ZEUHL MONSTER-Label:PQR-Disques File under: Magma, Wapassou, Catharsis, Jacula, Current 93, Death in June, Tindersticks, Coph Nia Recorded and originally released in 1978, Rialzu’s first and only album is rightfully considered by savvy collectors as a hidden gem from the versatile French progressive rock scene. Firmly rooted in Magma-esque (“Köhntarkösz" period) dark matter, it deviates from Zeuhl towards a stultifying eeriness that is so bewilderingly fresh — and in a sense makes this a proto goth-rock masterpiece. Spearheaded by a mesmerizing interplay between baritone and soprano vocals, an assemblage of sinister instrumental twists and turns constantly undermines and postpones the possibility of catharsis. In between an ode to spectrality and vainly ruminating invocations, U Rigiru might as well have been composed by a group of Gregorian singers who are fans of Jacula. This is a truly eclectic masterpiece to be cherished by Zeuhl fans, as well as by Goth aficionados and Cold Meat Industry diehard fans. U Rigiru in Corsican is a circular endeavor, a self-referential leap from and into an existential angst-ridden enclave, enshrouded in a celestial abyss. Darkness baked right in to the name of the album. LP $40 SKU:25002

SLAVE-The Lover, the Madman and the Poet (70s downer psych)Label:SEELIE COURT Slow, echo-laden and atmospheric, using a psyched out twangy guitar and Doors- esque vocals intoning strange and twisted tales: a depressed Jim Morrison colliding with Hank Marvin and Lord Byron in a sonic suicide pact of downer psych prog mystery. A few sleeve-less copies of Slaves sole Deroy LP exist, but devoid of information — and thus no one has been able to find out anything about the band. Seelie Court believes it to be connected to 9.30 Fly but they deny involvement, although Barbara Wainwright did concede that "it does sound a bit like us.” The Shadows on a bad acid trip? It’s a love or hate LP that leaves some listeners awe-struck and others deeply confused. LP $35 SKU:24687
