ABUELO , MIGUEL & NADA - ST (70s Argentine psych prog)-Label:CONDOR’S CAVE Recorded in 1974 in France, the album that is the bulk of this reissue has long been regarded as one of the finest recorded by any Argentine artist of the era. With a voice sounding like a cross between Tim Buckley and Peter Hammill, Abuelo became a big star in his native land, recording several rare psyched-out singles in the late sixties, with bells, treated vocals, strange edits, lots of phasing etc., included here as bonus tracks. But thanks to his fickle temper, there was no LP from Abuelo during that time—the album would only emerge years later, after a sojourn in Ibiza, and a bit of wandering throughout Europe. For the actual LP, Abuelo received superb support from Nada, who provided excellent musicianship throughout: the tracks are alternately progressive and very psychedelic (described by some as a cross between Led Zeppelin and Van der Graaf Generator), intense and gloomy. Sadly, Abuelo died of AIDS in 1988, which has diminished the importance of his legacy CD $16 SKU:20203

AGITATION FREE- Second (1973 Kraurock)Label:GARDEN OF DELIGHTS The band's masterpiece and probably even better than Malesch. Originally released on Vertigo's swirled label. As usual with a 32-page coloured booklet." Previously reissued on the Spalax label. "Adds bouzouki, mellotron, 12-string guitar to their classic twin guitar, heavy Krautrock sound. Recorded and released in 1973, few months after the first and incredible Malesch, Second is at the frontiers of experimental, progressive, jazz. If Malesch was experimental recording with a touch of progressive, Second just appears as a progressive recording with experimental touch, revealing the incredible music of the band in an 'easier,' HIGHER way." CD $17 SKU:5936

FREEDOM’S CHILDREN- Galactic Vibes (1971S S AFRICAN PROG PSYCH ) - Label:FRESH "This is one of the best heavy psych albums to come out of South Africa or in fact the world, phased out vocals, heavy as lead thumping rhythms on the bass and drums and guitars that weave in and out of the tracks like a madman on acid. Mind melter!" Freak Emporium CD $15 SKU:8742

MARKLEY- A Group (US psych legends) Label:ACID SYMPOSIUM (Greece) Reissue on CD of what was actually the 5th and final album by The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band are a showcase for the various dementias of vocalist Bob Markley (paranoia and a very keen interest in young—emphasis on young—women), and the electric shock treatment of guitarist/vocalist Dan Harris; the album's rich harmonies and full, delicate arrangements show the abundant influence of Michael Lloyd, who co-produced the album with Markley; tracks such as "Elegant Ellen", "Sweet Lady Eleven" and "Magic Cat" are nearly as good as some of the highlights from the WCPAEB catalog; a surprisingly consistent and accomplished album for a band about to collapse under the collective weight of it's own insanity. MASAHIKO SATOH & SOUNDBREAKERS -Amalgamation (JAPANESE 70S PSYCH)Label:DRONE SYNDICATE (SWEDEN) Number seven on the Japrocksampler Top 50, available again for the first time in over a decade! "This preposterous piece of psychedelic avant-jazz sounds like the work of aliens, each with only one foot in our universe. Propelled by cacophonous brassy blasts, volleys of machine-gunning, ecstatically 'Light Fantastic' rhythms and moments of Teo Macero-style 'Mixing Concrète' (during which the whole track becomes consumed by waves of new sound); the result is the most singular mash-up of inappropriate sounds any listener is ever likely to hear. Over two side-long tracks, shaman Masahiko Satoh sends us through a sonic mind-field, baffling our senses and our sense of gravity. Located at the centre of Amalgamation's giddy sessions was the frantic Detroit drumming of hard-bop legend Louis Hayes, whose role it was to play the bubbling ever unfolding fundament on which Masahiko Satoh's whole trip proceeded, as though the rhythm section were a magic carpet magically pulled out from under the feet of the other performers. Over this rhythmic shaking, Satoh scattered Hammond organ around and ring-modulated* his Fender Rhodes piano solos (*Roland built three especially for the record), added lead guitar from 'super session' legend Kimio Mizutani, trumpets and sax from Mototeru Takagi, scat singing from Kayoko Itoh, and strings from the Wehnne Strings Consort." (Japrocksampler) CD $10 SKU:19032

MASON HARBOUR-ST (70s) Label:GEAR FAB CD IS PERFECT, BOOKLET BUT NO BACK TRAY CARD . WHAT A DEAL! The great 1971 offering from this Virginia Beach band that broke all sorts of records for concert attendance in the early 70's up and down the east coast!!!CD $5 SKU:18617

MATADORS - GET DOWN FROM THE TREE- rare Czechoslovakian 60s beat psych!) Label:MUNSTER Studio recordings from 1966-1968 for the first time ever appear as a complete collection. From the early twist instrumentals through to solid R&B/soul covers and up to their classic psychedelic freakbeat originals, all tracks have been remastered from the original analogue master tapes. Even 40 years after they disbanded, the legendary Matadors still remain one of the best known "big beat" bands from former Czechoslovakia. Some of the original members would continue with munch-respected groups such as The Blue Effect or Emergency CD $14 SKU:20129

MATEO, EDUARDO- Mateo Solo Bien Se Lame (1972 Uruguay Nick Drake style ) - Label:LION From its first moments, the music is lilting, poetic, intimate, in turns life-affirming and melancholic, with pulsating percussion backed by unheard-of guitar chords and tunings (perhaps the reason for the frequent Caetano Veloso and Nick Drake comparisons); it is an album that sounds, simply put, honest. The record was released at the end of 1972 in both Argentina and Uruguay, and was received from that first moment as a classic in those countries, a position it still occupies today." CD $12 SKU:5752

MAYER, NATHANIEL - Why Don’t You Give It To Me ( w/ members of the Black Keys, SSM, Outrageous Cherry, and the Dirtbombs.) - Label:ALIVE Detroit Soul R&B legend Nathaniel Mayer come back album w/ members of the Black Keys, SSM, Outrageous Cherry, and the Dirtbombs. "That three successful contemporary rock'n'rollers should have sought out and championed such a lost hero is heroic in itself, and Dan Auerbach, Troy and - most especially - Matthew Smith should be praised to the skies. That the chosen artist should rise to the occasion in such a manner is even more thrilling, which is why I say to Nathaniel Mayer: 'Bravo, Lord Motherf-cker, and deep gratitude for laying this Righteous Thang upon us.' Amen" - Julian Cope CD $5 SKU:6347

MAYER. NATHANIEL- Why Won't You Let Me Be Black (with the Black Keys ) Label:ALIVE Nathaniel Mayer (1944-2008) was one of the all-time great soul singers. His 1962 record "Village of Love" made him a star, and he inspired several generations of musicians, especially in his hometown of Detroit. Nathaniel's last sessions took place during two long summer days and nights of intense jamming, writing, and recording. "Why Don't You Give It To Me?" was the first installment of these recordings to be unleashed. Now, here at last, is a second volume of Nathaniel Mayer having a blast with the assistance of members of the BLACK KEYS, SSM, OUTRAGEOUS CHERRY and the DIRTBOMBS. The two acoustic performances are from a 2007 radio interview, Nathaniel's only known "unplugged" performance. About the title: It has to do with the food he kept being served while on tour in Europe. When Nate finally became frustrated with the countless plates of cheese and French bread that awaited him backstage at every gig, he shouted "Why Won't You Let Me Be Black?". He agreed that it sounded like a good title for his next album. - Matthew Smith (Outrageous Cherry). CD $5 SKU:10495

State of the art remastering by Golden Mastering, and complete historical notes by Maypole co-founder, Dennis Tobell, and Anopheles Records' Karl Ikola. CD $10 SKU:18660

MCKINLEY, WILSON- Message Brought To Us – Anthology (XTian psych ) Label:TANIGNAK (USA) The only legitimate Wilson McKinley release, now available to all! With beginnings firmly in the secular realm and a strong following in the Northwest, the band signed to Alshire Records (home of 101 Strings) and recorded one LP (Honky Tonk Women) under the label's "acid-rock" moniker, The California Poppy Pickers. With the proceeds from the album sessions the band self-released a 7" EP in 1970 and soon met street minister Carl Parks, giving up the rock 'n' roll lifestyle and effectively ending the first incarnation of the group. The minister encouraged the remaining bandmembers to pick up their instruments again to create some music for a street meeting, and the first "Jesus Rock" group was born. This 21-track compilation includes selections from all three of their original LP's (On Stage, Spirit Of Elijah and Heaven's Gonna Be A Blast), their first cassette (Country In The Sky) and one unreleased track from 1973. MICHAEL ANGELO - DBL CD w S/T" (Guinn Sessions) + "Sorcerer's Dream" + "Nuts" -Label:LION Stunning work from Michael Angelo – a little-known singer/songwriter from the Kansas City scene of the late 70s – one with a style that's totally great, but way too off the era's chronological expectations to get much notice at the time! Michael's music has a real late 60s vibe – some of the trippier folk modes of someone like Donovan, but mixed with the more complete songwriting of an artist like Nilsson or some of the hipper LA writers of the late 60s – all recorded in this laidback, understated way – especially for the 70s – with acoustic guitar most strongly in the mix, and a few other light rhythm touches and keyboards. The production's sharper than folk, but not much more so – and the music here is a great reminder that while we can look at the rock and roll timeline, and think that the punk explosion of the mid 70s was changing everything at once – out in the hinterlands there were still folks like Angelo who were dedicated to refining an older craft. The CD features a huge amount of material – the full original self-titled album, more tracks from those sessions, and a full second album recorded around the same time. 32 tracks on 2CDs, with lots of notes too – and titles that include "Field Of Lonely Eyes", "Future", "Journey To Find Who We Are", "Russian Lament", "Nubian Queen", "This Is The Night", "Love Is Too High", "Spirits Of Mercury", and "SOS Titanic CD $15 SKU:16805

AYAHUASCA _-Psychedelic Cumbias, Vol. 1LP + insertLabel:LION Starting in the late 1960's, there was a boom of tropical music in Peru, both in Lima and the provinces. Cumbia Peruana merged this tropical sound with that of psychedelic rock. Aspects of cumbia were mixed with electric (often fuzz) guitar, played over Andean and jungle rhythms—this combination provoked an explosion of original music. An instrument to lead the way, usually from the introduction of the song; over this, hypnotic layers of keyboards and guitar with fuzz and wah wah; add simple bass-lines; and to top it off, syncopated rhythms from bongos, congas, huiros, cymbals, timbales, often played at breakneck speed. In the end, it's like a sonic cousin to Nigerian music: these musicians liked guitar, they had a fondness for echo, and they loved a murky high-octane jam. Fierce, funky and full of flavor!•Snazzy bi-lingual insert w/photos + info on the development of the Cumbias Psicodélicas sound •All tracks newly remastered for this vinyl release COMP LP $21 SKU:20212

Hailed with the same breathless enthusiasm as Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and The Flaming Lips (hah, when have those three been referenced in the same breath?) ‘Triptych’ is further proof of the quality of The Bevis Frond legacy. Now with additional tracks in this limited edition format. “A trip worth taking!” squealed Foster Child magazine. Who can argue? Remastered from the original sound sources with sleevenotes by Nick Saloman. Basically, this album is worth buying for the track 'Lights Are Changing,' an incredibly catchy slice of pre-Teenage Fanclub sounding bliss. The best songs have great hooks and walls of psychedelic lo-fi guitar. The 19-minute 'Tangerine Infringement Beak' is here too. LP $12 SKU:19294

BLACK KEYS - Chulahoma - Label:FAT POSSUM Recorded by the band in their own Akron, OH studio THE BLACK KEYS epitomize DIY. Chulahoma is a collection of songs that were originally written by the late Junior Kimbrough. Reworked and recorded, The Keys capture the very essence of Junior’s style better than any other musician today. Roomy and sparse in production the drums/guitar duo fill out every inch of these songs with distorted guitar, drums, and Dan's soulful vocals. LP $17 SKU:12585

QUICK, BILL- MARAVILLOSA GENTE (70s obscure psych gem) -Label:TIME LAG Pressed on 180 gm audiophile grade vinyl, and limited to 1000 copiesDeluxe LP reissue of amazing little know gem (entitled “beautiful people”) from 1972. Born in Miami to an American father and Venezuelan mother, Bill split the USA and went to Madrid, Spain in the early 70s. Once there, he landed a recording deal with famous producer Alain Milhaud for the Explosion label, and set to work on this, his sole album. Sessions included an impressive cast of players in the studio, including Salvador Dominguez & Chema Pellicó (from Cerebrum), Jess Lam (Jess & James), and Frank Rojas (Sangre). One of the album’s real hidden treasures, though, was the assistance of unknown Texan Mark Gottschall, who co-wrote the title track and adds perfect vocal harmonies as well a second acoustic guitar. The album has an air of mystical psychedelia, and there's a real sun-blasted quality to it all that makes you want to crank the volume. The lyrics (all in English) feel deeply sincere; when combined with Quick’s unique voice, unusual accent, and loose delivery, it makes for one hell of a cool record. Reissued here for the first time, with the collaboration of original producer Milhaud. packaged in a heavy weight gloss coated exact reproduction of the original cover, including the original double sided insert, as well as a huge new full color foldout insert which reproduces at nearly full size the Brazilian version of the album art. Extensive notes by Salvador Dominguez, Mark Gottschall, and Alex Carretero (Guerssen Records, Spain). Art includes rare picture sleeves 45s, promotional inserts, lyric sheets; the LP labels reproduce the original psychedelic full color Explosion label art. LP $15 SKU:19296
