BUFFALO KILLERS premiered their new video viaPop Matters: “Witness the outfit’s latest video, “Parachute”, a track culled from the LP Alive and Well in Ohio. With a direct nod to the final public performance from Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr atop the Apple building in London in 1969, the video gives us a glimpse of the collective’s humor and an and an earful of its heavy-yet-tuneful band of rock ‘n’ roll.

6 FEET UNDER - In Retrospect (NEW JERSEY counterculture 70s psych)-Label:ARF ARF Very nice collection of counterculture psych from obscure New Jersey psychedelic band 6 Feet Under: “Like the Jefferson Airplane, Neighb’rhood Children and United States of America, Six Feet Under was blessed with a dynamic diva who soared amidst searing fuzz leads, swirling organ chords, and gifted songwriting with prophetic lyrics.” They released a couple of flop 1970 singles on Scepter before disbanding. Influenced by the Doors, Iron Butterfly and Jefferson Airplane, they favored gloomy minor melodies and naively earnest songs reflecting the state of social unrest and psychedelic exploration in the counterculture circa 1969-70. This reissue includes previously unreleased material that approximates what their debut album might have sounded like, along with some unissued home, live and rehearsal recordings. Prior to recording for Scepter, their drummer, Tico Torres, had been replaced on the grounds that he wasn't good enough; he became the only member of 6 Feet Under to make it in the music business, as part of Bon Jovi CD $10 SKU:19626
ASTRAL PROJECTION- The Astral Scene (1968 Pop/Psych-get out the lava lamps! )-Label:GEAR FAB This 1968 Pop/Psychedelic Rock album is just chock full spacey instrumentation and utilizes horns, woodwind, and string sections very much like those used in Sgt. Peppers. The theme of this release is based upon the thoughts and feelings experienced if one were to leave the physical body (Astral Projection) and become the spiritual embodiment (Astral Body). The Astral Body begins to go back into the physical body and causes one to think about The Astral Scene…..There are some very nice male and female vocals which are backed up by the great orchestration and this LP is one to set the lights down low on and turn on the Lava Lamps!!! CD $10 SKU:19613

FREEBORNE- Peak Impressions (1966 psych folk collectable)-Label:ARF ARF One of the best and most collectable records in psych rock. Formed in 1966 as an offshoot of two Boston-area garage bands (The Missing Links and the Indigos), the Freeborne have remained something of an enigma; avoiding both the limelight and the eventual stigma associated with the “Bosstown” fad. Their eclectic musical vision, which incorporated complex musical textures, sophisticated composition, creative studio effects, elements of jazz, rock, blues, and free-form sounds, all create a truly ambitious period piece from the turbulent day-glow Sixties. During their prolific two-year lifespan, the Freeborne performed constantly throughout the New England region and in August of 1967 opened for the Velvet Underground at the Boston Tea Party. They made the connection with local music impresario Barry Richards who secured a record deal with the New York-based Monitor label as their sole rock act. The band was booked at CBS Studio in NYC which resulted in a remarkably well-produced, ten-song audio document of their full-blown imaginative compositions—an impressive and ambitious feat for a quintet comprised of high school seniors. While numerous unauthorized reissues of Peak Impressions have appeared over the years, this substantial upgrade is taken directly from the original master-tapes and includes six bonus and enlightening alternate mono mixes. This quality 78-minute CD edition comes packaged in an informative 24-page booklet chock full of pictures, memorabilia, and liner notes by noted archivist Gary Burns culled from insightful interviews with all five members of the ensemble. “…full of the acid imagery which typified the Bosstown sound in 1968.” —Max Waller/Fuzz Acid & Flowers. CD $10 SKU:19628
KNOWBODY ELSE - Soldier of Pure Peace(brilliant 60s psych masterpiece )W 24 PAGE BOOKLET -Label:ARF ARF Hailing from the northeast corner of Arkansas, Knowbody Else was a ground-breaking musical force during the Summer of Love, caught up in the post-Sgt Pepper / Byrds-ian dayglow era. What they created at Ardent Studio in 1967 with legendary Memphis producer Jim Dickinson is nothing short of a truly brilliant psychedelic masterpiece influenced by the times that were a changin’. How these ten unreleased original songs have remained unknown and unheard for 45 years is both a mystery and a crime. Arf! Arf! has worked closely with the Dickinson estate for this authorized release taken directly from the original master-tapes. The music comes wrapped in a luscious, 24-page booklet chock full of photos, memorabilia, and insightful notes by noted artist Glennray Tutor, who witnessed their magic back in the day. CD $10 SKU:14791
LIGHTNING - 1968-1971 (Mpls 60s LEGENDS)-Label:ARF ARF Lightning was an offshoot of Minneapolis '60s legends Litter that featured guitar wizard Tom 'Zippy' Caplan. After recording the Litter's 1966 garage classic Distortions and 1968 psych masterpiece $100 Fine, Caplan split from the Litter and formed Lightning. The band started out as a power trio and cut one fierce Cream-inspired single 'William' b/w 'Of Paupers And Poets' in 1968 under the White Lightning moniker with Twin Cities record producer Warren Kendrick. The band regrouped into a quintet and scored a record deal with P.I.P. which issued their eight-song album. That album has since become a highly collectable LP. Lightning became one of the Midwest's hardest working rock acts and toured extensively throughout the region during their three-year tenure. This authorized CD reissue includes their entire LP, the aforementioned 45, plus six additional bonus tracks (including edited 45 mixes of two album tracks) all wrapped in an archival 12-page booklet with lots of photos and liner notes by Litter-scribe Doug Sheppard. Between this package and Arf Arf's White Lightning Strikes Twice [1968-1969] release, the band's entire musical legacy has been properly archived. Fans of Blue Cheer, Cream, Hendrix, and Arf Arf's four psychedelic Dose comps will really dig this new disc CD $10 SKU:12952
LINDGREN, ERIK - Sound on Sound (Brian Wilson style-Label:ARF ARF Long before making his mark on the independent music scene as a member of Birdsongs of the Mesozoic (among other projects), Erik Lindgren was writing and recording his own music as a teenage one-man band. “Sound on Sound” presents 79 minutes-worth of material he recorded in 1973 and 1974, on which he played almost all of the instruments. Lindgren was obviously heavily influenced by Brian Wilson's output in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and much of this has the sort of wistful, fragile, almost bewildered feeling of the work Wilson did in the years immediately following 1967. Other obvious reference points—they're mentioned in the liner notes—are the early Pete Townshend solo recordings, Paul McCartney, Todd Rundgren, and Michael Brown of the Left Banke. Lindgren didn't have the melodic brilliance of those composers… and these aren't exactly polished recordings, some of the rhythms betraying their origins as one-man overdubs. Still the collection has a basic lyricism that makes it engaging in its naivete. The CD comes with an extensive 12 page booklet crammed full of photos, notes by Lindgren, and a forward by his collaborator/Boston rock historian Eric Van. Lindgren has amassed a boat-load of eclectic musical credentials including his mid ’70s mod psych power pop band TNT, pre-Mission of Burma band Moving Parts, and his progressive ensemble Birdsongs Of The Mesozoic. As Lindgren says: “This contains seriously juvenile demo original material that I recorded in '73 - 74. I recently read a review which compared it favorably to Patron Saints, and it's musically all over the map. It's pretty amateur but musically fairly ambitious. CD $10 SKU:19627
LITTER- $100 Fine (60's garage psych classic) -Label:ARF ARF 1968 classic garage lp w/ unre demos. 20 page booklet The 1968 follow up to their stunning debut, Distortions, finds the Litter heading into psychedelic territory with a stunning remake of 'Kaleidoscope' as well as their first original songs on record. An early version of '(Under The Screaming Double) Eagle' shows the direction that guitarist Zippy Caplan was heading with his future band Lightning. CD $10 SKU:487
LITTER- Distortions (60's garage psych)NUGGETS style - Label:ARF ARF 1966 classic garage lp w/ unre demos.20 page booklet if you like 'garage' music / 60s punk-psychedelia at all this is a must-have. Two stand-out tracks. Action Woman, an original, also available on the Nuggets anthology, is one of the great lost rock singles. Had there been any justice it would have / could have been a top ten hit. CD $10 SKU:488
PANDORA -Space Amazon (1970s glam proto punk) -Label:ARF ARF Erik Lindgren's Arf! Arf! Records is known for gathering the most obscure unreleased vintage tapes for historical purposes. (They're also known to have a giggle now and again; a couple of the label's supposedly vintage unreleased tapes are at least suspected to be by modern-day groups recording in note perfect re-creations of period styles.) Though most of the label's vintage tapes are from '60s era New England bands, given Lindgren's proximity and tastes, the 1997 release Space Amazon is actually a bunch of circa 1974 recordings by Pandora, a Cleveland, OH, band. The tapes were produced by Joe Battaglia, drummer for Cleveland metallurgists Granicus, and only the first two, the thumping "Space Amazon" and "Daze of Madness," were ever released, and even then only on a flexi-disc given away by a local magazine. The glammy songs have a heavy, proto-punk edge, as if the group were heavily into the Stooges and the first New York Dolls album, and the theatrical vocals and self-consciously "decadent" lyrics suggest a strong Bowie/T. Rex fixation as well. Fun stuff, no matter when it was recorded. (MUSIC EMPORIUM)proto punk) CD $10 SKU:19193
WHITE LIGHTNING - Strikes Twice (70s Power Hard Rock)- Label:ARF ARF Grinding with the axe of x-Litter distorter Zippy Caplan, White Lightning's current charged Minneapolis from 1968-1971. Proving that lightning does strike twice, the band electrified audiences first as trio and then struck again as they grew into a quintet. Both phases are documented on this hard rockin' 20-track CD with extensive liner notes by Doug Sheppard. CD $10 SKU:11403
BLIND OWLS -ALL DAY & NIGHT(Texas Freakbeat, Mod, '60s Rock'n'Roll)-Label:SOUNDFLAT Here comes the debut album by Texas quartet The Blind Owls. JODI - Pops de vanguardia (rare 70s S American JANGLY POP GARAGE!) - Label:OUT-SIDER (SPAIN) .The best lo–fi garage album from South America? Ahead of its time raw & homemade Sixties garage, jangly pop and basement psych sounds from Paraguay! Originally released in 1971 as a private pressing, "Pops de Vanguardia" by JODI contains tracks mostly written and recorded in 1969 (with some dating back to 1966) by brothers Joern and Dirk Wenger at their homemade "Jodi Experimental Studio" in Paraguay. Joern and Dirk, born in Paraguay but of German origin, started playing in beat / psychedelic band The Rabbits, who released a very rare EP in 1969. After the group split, Joern and Dirk travelled to Germany, were they studied arts and received musical lessons from none other than Stockhausen. The two brothers had built their own homemade studio and they spent hours and hours recording songs and experimenting to create their own sound effects (echo, reverb, etc). They called their music "Spontaneous Pop". "Pops De Vanguardia" was recorded at their own rudimentary studio with two tape recorders. Joern plays guitar, organ and he was the lead vocalist, while Dirk plays drums and percussions. From ultra–catchy garage–pop to killer instrumental Farfisa numbers and proto–psychedelic sounds. JODI could be seen as precursors of the indie–pop and lo–fi garage which would appear some decades later. *Ultra rare and obscure album from Paraguay reissued for the first time *Insert with detailed liner notes in English / Spanish and rare photos *LP version includes digital download coupon featuring the album plus bonus tracks. LP $19 SKU:19606

MILLARD & DYCE - ST AKA OPEN (ACID ARCHIVES GEM, 70s folk rock) Label:VOID •Vinyl reissue debut for this Acid Archives gem. "... Impressive, successful mix of electric and acoustic contemporary folk blues, with three guitars and bass. The typical private press weakness in singing and playing is missing; instead we get earthy, convin cing vocals delivering no-bullshit tunes on Native Americans, the environment and society, mixed with more private love songs. A definite Tim Hardin influence can be heard, and as often it’s an advantage, especially since the emotional commitment of Millard & Dyce is so very real. A musical equivalent of those great old 70s movies like “The Scarecrow” or “Five Easy Pieces”; skillfully spun tales from the American underbelly with no desire to compromise. Fenner, Leland & O’Brien is a possible comparison, and this is at least as good." —Patrick Lundborg (RIP), Acid Archives. Millard and Dyce was a folk-rock band formed in the 1970's, and based in Baltimore. They toured on the east coast for several years and released just the one album via custom vinyl purveyors Century/Kaymar in 1973, which has since become a rare collector's item, recently selling in excess of $400. First time reissued on vinyl. LP $19 SKU:19625
PIG RIDER -Bloody Turkey Sandwiches (1974 psych folk rarity)-Label:SOMMER .Another ultra-rarity by British psychedelic folk band Pig Rider: only six copies were originally privately pressed by custom label Deroy in 1974. The music here is much in the same vein as their famous “Heterophonies” album but even more crazed. Some of the tracks bring to mind the more experimental side of Olivia Tremor Control / Black Swan Network or even They Might Be giants …but only 20 years before those bands existed! Electric acid folk with stoned homemade atmosphere, lo-fi sound, bizarre & funny lyrics, effects, backward bits, surreal humour, psychedelic skiffle and old-timey music hall parodies, brilliant folk-rock-pop and titles like “Interdrive Overstella”, “Be Glad For The Song Has An Ending”, “Pus In Our Time” and “Have you seen your neighbour in the bath”. Insert with photos and lyrics. Master tape sound. Limited to 300 copies LP $19 SKU:19609

GINGER BAKERS AIRFORCE-"Live in the Stadhalle Offenbach Germany 1970 DOUBLE CD -Label:VOICEPRINT Ginger Baker is probably best known as the drummer with British rock bands Cream and Blind Faith. Ginger's next musical stop was his own band Ginger Baker's Airforce who released two albums of part studio/part live recordings. This short-lived band broke up in late 1970, and Ginger then went to briefly live in Africa, where in Nigeria he established his own recording studios in Lagos whilst also forming the band Salt, a band which managed to fuse jazz with African rhythms. A return to the UK in the mid seventies saw Ginger join forces with the Gurvitz brothers late of Three Man Army and Gun in the Baker Gurvitz Army. Releasing a number of albums with this band Ginger re established his rock career. Apart from live recordings included on the two original Airforce albums, Ginger Baker's Airforce recordings are extremely rare. This is an audience recording of Airforce in Offenbach Germany on 18 December 1970. This performance captures the second incarnation of Airforce following the departure of Steve Winwood and Chris Wood, who had returned to Traffic by this time. Nevertheless, it is a lively performance—actually one of the final Airforce performances before the band split. The performance features (amongst others) the Cream classic ‘Sunshine Of Your Love’ and Ginger's contribution to the Blind Faith album, ‘Do What You Like,’ alongside tracks from the second Airforce album, including ‘We Free Kings,’ ‘Let Me Ride,’ ‘Toady’ and ‘12 Gates Of The City.’ The recordings featured in the Official Ginger Baker Bootleg series are sure to become collector's items and are all sanctioned by Ginger Baker CD $10 SKU:19501

LOVE LIVE LIFE + 1- Love Will Make A Better You (Japanese psych) Label:DRONE SYNDICATE Number six on the Japrocksampler Top 50, available again for the first time in over a decade! "Commencing with singer Akira Fuse's goggle-eyed one-day-old-baby innocence, Love Live Life + 1's album opener 'The Question Mark' escorts us through an eighteen-minute free-rock R&B adventure like nothing before or since. Clanking harsher than even the title track of Funkadelic's Free Your Mind & Your Ass Will Follow, and twice as long; cosmic as the Cosmic Joker's Galactic Supermarket, and gnarly as John McLaughlin's out-there-a-minute axe excursions on Miles's 'Right Off'' or his own Devotion solo LP, do these guys fight for their right to party! The mellower second side includes the insanely brilliant eight-minute epic 'Shadows Of My Mind', in which Akira Fuse sings like some drunken Italian baritone, while atonal swooping strings and crazy brass support/undermine him; then it's off into a juggernaut bass-heavy clatter-thon with duel-axe outrage of the highest level. And how about that title track whose catchy bastard licks unashamedly rip Sly's 'I Want To Take You Higher', but still have you singing along with Fuse? The record closes brilliantly with the demented 'Facts About It All', which opens like Fuse laying a grunting 6/8 James Brown/Eric Burdon ballad on us. But no, this miniature R&B opera says in 2 minutes and 56 seconds what prog bands took a whole side to say. All hail visionary genius Ikuzo Orita for uniting his fave guitarist Kimio Mizutani with the errant free-jazz Gibson 335 of Takao Naoi, whose brittle spittle pops permanent wheelies around these slippery rhythm tracks. Also hail Orita for recognizing the genius of these songs of sax player Kei Ichihara, for trusting Akira Fuse's professionalism and open-mindedness, and for seeing this 33-minute-long classic to its unlikely conclusion." CD $10 SKU:10256
ROBBIE AND THEGEAR FAB WEREWOLF- Live at the Waleback (Bizarre 1964 monster inspired oddity)-Label:GEAR FAB OK, so here we have one of the weirdest and most bizarre albums ever recorded. Pretty much unsurpassed in its level of incredible strangeness, this ultra-rare album from the early sixties (1964) California coffee- house circuit is like no other. Robbie is a folksinger of the frantic variety with a fetish for monsters. This inspired some of the most bizarre songs ever committed to vinyl. It was at The Wale Back in LA one heady night in 1964, that Robbie's solo act was captured for posterity by engineer Reice Hamel, now renowned as a pioneer of live recording techniques. The patrons lapped up Robbie's act although some of the more faint-hearted may have experienced a frisson of terror as he prowled amongst them, sweat dripping from his beard, laughing maniacally, during his atmospheric 'Dracula' number. With his long red hair and matching beard, Robbie was a striking performer with a manic stage presence, acting out his songs as much as singing them. His set consisted of his original songs and uniquely reworked versions of folk standards, played on a beat-up twelve-string guitar. Robbie would later join The Brain Train in 1967 and his wife Barbara “Sandi” Robison would become the lead vocalist for The Peanut Butter Conspiracy (PBC) . Featuring liner notes from Alan Brackett of The PBC and UK collector extraordinaire Gray Newell. CD $10 SKU:19459

With these demo recordings, they acquired concert bookings and later that year a German record company offered them an album contract. In preparation for the studio they completed a demo recording of 'Edgar Flee'. In January 1975 they recorded the song in their rehearsal studio using the same equipment as for the March 1974 demo recordings. All recordings were made without overdubbing. Sadly, the record company went bankrupt before they made it into the studio. By that time, Ertlif were playing what they called symphonic rock with a strong emphasis on keyboards – two organs, Mellotron, electric piano and synthesizer. Together with a distinctive guitar sound, they had established their reputation as a highly creative band and this is what you can now hear on this album. *First ever release of these ’74–75 unreleased recordings by Ertlif. *Remastered from the original master tapes by Eroc. *Lacquer cut by SST Brüggeman *Insert with liner notes by band member Teddy Riedo plus rare photos and memorabilia. MCKENNA MENDELSON BLUES- ST (bluesy psych demo tapes from 1968) -Label:PACEMAKER Another great album from Canada's legendary Paragon label, a set of super bluesy psych demo tapes from 1968; the band’s album “Stink” was received not just as a great album of electric blues, but as some sort of revelation when it appeared in the second half of 1969. Lead guitarist Mike McKenna spent time ('67-'68) in the Ugly Ducklings, but he had already developed a 'local hero' tag by playing hard electric blues as a member of the legendary Luke and the Apostles. Together, he and Joe Mendelson made arrestingly earthy music, which soon attracted another of Toronto's rock gods of the day, bassist Denny Gerrard from the Paupers, whose legendary talents had served him well on the stage of the Monterey Pop Festival, where his work with the Paupers was (and still is) considered a highlight. The material included on this disc, which was demo material that now the band claim was “bootegged” by the legitimate Paragon label (a little revisionist history, perhaps?), is arguably even more rare and interesting than that on their classic McKenna Mendelson Mainline "Stink" album. TONGUE - Keep on Truckin- forgotten classic of late '60s American psych)Label:OUT-SIDER (Spain) Tongue were a blues-based, organ-fueled, country and rural folk-influenced hard rock band that emerged from the copious student population of countercultural Wisconsin. Though Tongue remains a criminally underrated outfit, and never made it big on a national level, their touring reached legendary status, particularly in the mid-west. They were on the road for 10 years and played 250 gigs a year without flying to a single one of them. LP $17 SKU:19452
