LIGHTDREAMS -Islands In Space (70s psych)Label:Got Kinda Lost Records ". . .we can make [enough] progress inside our heads and the heads of our friends to lay the foundations of an intergalactic life more meaningful than our earthbound condition . . ." --John Peel, International TimesFirst reissue; remastered sound. Includes full-color booklet containing informative liner notes by collector Jack D. Fleischer prepared from artist interviews, as well as full lyrics and rare photos. Mirroring the sentiment of the prescient UK radio legend in his Vibrations column for the International Times in the '70s, LightDreams leader Paul Marcano took one step beyond his intimate colleagues and chose to spread his ideals concerning peaceful outer-space colonization to all with open ears. Islands in Space, dotted with acoustic jams, backward guitars, lyrics alluding to the British progressive era, smoking-hot electric leads, synths galore, and the dreamiest of melodies, is both Marcano's love letter to the work of science-fiction author Gerard K. O'Neill and the psych-tinged folk explorers who came before him such as McDonald and Giles. Originally privately issued in 1981 in an edition of 1,000 copies, Islands in Space explores space travel and cosmic ideology in a sci-fi psych odyssey and is filled with atmospheric, lysergic creations atop a hybrid of sounds from the cosmic psych/progressive folk/new age spectrum. Home-recorded (yet hi-fi), Islands in Space carries a singular quality, defies easy categorization, and has long been savored by collectors of otherworldly joys. This singular, beatific work now has another chance to shine from Earth's surface to the outer reaches of the galaxy. RIYL: Dreamies; Donovan; Pete Fine; Robert Lester Folsom's hazy, synth-led moments; McDonald and Giles; Ramases; Simones; the out-of-time bliss of Bobb Trimble; et al. CD $16 SKU:17328

LOST & FOUND- Everybody's Here (Elevators style 60s psych - Rigid digibook w 16-page illustrated booklet plus 3 bonus cuts ) -Label:CHARLY Originally known as The Misfits, Lost & Found came together in Houston in 1965, changing their name just prior to undertaking a six-month residency at Houston's Living Eye Club -- one of the centres of the area's thriving psychedelic scene. Like anyone who frequented the club, smoked the odd joint and worshipped at the altar of The 13th Floor Elevators, they became friends with Roky Erickson. He in turn introduced them to Lelan Rogers of International Artists, who promptly signed them up. The group's sound displayed a marked Byrds and Love influence, which doubtless stemmed from the time they had spent in L.A. A planned follow-up album for International Artists unfortunately never came to fruition after the band disintegrated after a 30-day Texas tour with national garage gods The Music Machine. Band member Peter Black later joined Endle St Cloud." Comes in a deluxe digibook with 16-page booklet and International Artists catalog. Includes three bonus tracks: "When Will You Come Through," "Professor Black" and "25 MPH." CD $12 SKU:15698

LOVETONES - Be What you Want - the true essence of psychedelic pop. promo copies Label:Evil 9 (same as regular, in plastic envelope with a drilled bar code, but includes booklet.)Although these guys are from Sydney Australia, if you didn't know any better you'd swear they were from the UK, as Be What You Want is filled with the kind of textural, psychedelic-tinged sounds that the un-informed mainstream press will liken to Radiohead. Lead vocalist Matthew Tow (formerly of Drop City) possesses a powerful instrument indeed, which serves the band well on cool, Brit-pop tunes like 'The Sound And The Fury', 'Give It All I Can', and 'Something Good'. The album has its lighter moments as well; 'Drink The Night (My Love)' will recall Squeeze with its octave-separated vocal harmonies and 'The One And Only', with its soulful bent guitar notes, is as catchy as pop music gets. There's also the standout ballad 'It's Always Been This Way', which has the kind of gut-wrenching impact that Dennis Wilson provided on Pacific Ocean Blue. Good stuff, this! (Shindig review).
"Guided by brilliant production, Be What You Want, is a pop-rock classic. Distinguished by golden melodies and a subject matter that is emotionally direct and largely autobiographical, the Lovetones are reviving the true essence of psychedelic pop."[Rolling Stone]
"The best Australian band you haven't heard of yet. This punchy debut will be blasting from a radio speaker near you soon. It leaves you hungry for more."[Courier Mail].
Out of print now, BUT we have a few promo copies, packed in heavy plastic sleeves rather than jewel cases and with a hole drilled thru thebar code, otherwise like regular copies CD $5 SKU:10387

MACARTHUR - ST (1979 U.S basement psych-prog monster)Label:OUT SIDER U.S. basement psych-prog monster released in 1979 as an ultra-rare private pressing of 200 copies. MacArthur were formed when a young guitar player and songwriter named Ben MacArthur met a 17-year old prodigy musician called Bill Heffelfinger in Saginaw, Michigan, in 1978. Bill was not only a gifted guitar player but also a genius arranger and keyboard wizard. When Ben showed him some of the stuff he had written, Bill took the songs and transformed them into classic pieces of music. They soon recruited Jeff Bauer on bass and Scott Stockford on drums. The chemistry of MacArthur was born. The first MacArthur album, known in collector's circles as The Black Forest due to the vinyl bootleg of the same title released in the '80s, was recorded in 1979 using a four-track machine. Produced by Bill Heffelfinger, MacArthur is a progressive/psychedelic concept album highlighted by devastating, ripping fuzz guitar solos and Mini-Moog/synths attacks. CD $16 SKU:17694

LEOPARDS - Magic Still Exists - (Repress of the orig 1987 Kinks-style garage release ) GREEN Label:VOXX In 1987 The Leopards sounded as wonderfully Kinky as ever, and when the band got around to releasing Magic Still Exists, the Kinks had a lower profile than ever, which made this album a most welcome arrival. SUN RA & THE BLUES PROJECT -Batman And Robin PIC. DISC-Label:DOXY (Russian Federation) Picture disc reissue of Sun Ra & The Blues Project's Batman And Robin, originally released in 1966. This novelty album, released during the height of the Batman And Robin craze, was initially credited to the "The Sensational Guitars of Dan and Dale" and featured an album full of tracks based on the popular TV show like "The Batman Theme Song", "The Penguin Chase", and "The Batcave". The album is entirely instrumental, except for someone singing "Batmaaaan!" in the theme song. But the interesting thing about this album, and what makes it an absolute cult gem, are the musicians who are behind it all: basically a joint collaboration between Sun Ra's Arkestra and Danny Kalb's Blues Project (one of the first psychedelic rock bands as well as one of the world's first jam bands). "Dan and Dale" were actually blues guitarist Danny Kalb and Steve Katz (later ofBlood, Sweat And Tears) on dueling guitars, while Sun Ra and Al Kooper take over organ duties (a Hammond B-3) and members of Ra's Arkestra play sax. TANGERINE- The Peeling Of great long-lost album from U.S. hard psychedelic '60s band )..-Label:OUT-SIDER (Spain) The great long-lost album from U.S. hard psychedelic '60s band Tangerine, released in 1971. More than anyone, the band recalls a slightly heavier Santana; the music is full of Latin chord progressions, salsafied and tribal drumming and percussion, and Al Ferraro's beautiful guitar work, as well as some of the dynamics of early-'70s psychedelia and soul." --All Music Guide (4/5) LP $22 SKU:15492

THIN LIZZY - Vagabonds of the Western World (’73 ) 180 gram - Label:FUTURE DAYS RECORDINGS Seismic shifts happened between the previous year's Shades of a Blue Orphanage and 1973's Vagabonds of the Western World. Frontman Phil Lynott was still documenting working class life in the group's native Dublin, and the band still featured guitarist Eric Bell and drummer Brian Downey, even if Bell was soon to leave; the shift was in the feel of the album. Between Jim Fitzpatrick's lurid album cover which depicted the band in space, the new, hot-rod-like Thin Lizzy logo, and Lynott's newly throaty howl, it's possibly the first Thin Lizzy album on which they truly could be described as a hard rock band. Vagabonds presented a swaggering confidence, a band buoyed by the success of semi-accidental smash hit 'Whisky in the Jar,' and carved out a moody, dark sound by borrowing bits from the blues, folk, psych, and Celtic music. Check out 'Slow Blues' for proof, and decide whether Lynott or the guitars win the wail-off that begins the track. 'Whisky in the Jar' had been a bone of contention for the band who felt it didn't represent them. Pushed out due to their presence on package tours with rockers Slade and Suzi Quatro, it seemed to seal their fate, and their Vagabonds single, 'The Rocker,' set out their stall for good. The weirdness and idiosyncrasies of Phil Lynott's early songwriting hadn't been ironed out completely: 'The Hero and the Madman' saw them try their hand at acid-fried cowboy rock -- if such a thing ever existed. After the album, and after Bell's departure due to ill health and disillusionment with the music industry, Thin Lizzy were reinvented once again. Lynott recruited two guitarists and the band left Decca to record Nightlife for Phonogram. Their big hits and glory years -- beginning with 1976's Jailbreak -- were still ahead of them, but, with Vagabonds as a centerpiece, Thin Lizzy's early years left behind a cabinet of curiosities." Pressed on 180-gram vinyl. LP $22 SKU:16582

THURSDAY’S CHILDREN- 1965-1969 - LAST COPIES Label:VOXX 200.052 - LAST COPIES Originally known as The Druids when they formed in Houston, Texas in 1964 they changed their name to Thursdays Children during 1965. The first 45 was quite an accessible punk affair, whilst their second and third were more British-influenced. After one final and disappointing rock and roll 45, drugs and the draft had accounted for many of the band and they regrouped as The Pointing Hand Group. This retrospective album on Voxx includes material spanning their career from 1965-69 with 45s, unissued and live material. It's the best source for their recorded output. -- [Vernon Joynson, Fuzz Acid & Flowers]. LP $18 SKU:7969
