JUST IN FROM RIDING EASY

WHITE LIGHtNING -Thunderbolts of Fuzz (Brown Acid stars 60s heavy psych)Label:RIDING EASY Standout favorites of RidingEasy Records’ Brown Acid compilation series, White Lightning’s stellar discography of rare and under-appreciated heavy psych, proto-metal rock gets a vital revival for new generations to learn how swinging, swaggering and often blazingly fast rock’n’roll is done.White Lightning was formed in Minneapolis, MN in 1968 by guitarist Tom “Zippy” Caplan and bassist Woody Woodrich after leaving garage psych band The Litter (themselves popular standouts from the Nuggets and Pebbles series of garage rock rarities.) Originally a power trio, the band later expanded to a 5-piece in 1969 while shortening its name to Lightning. The quintet’s brilliant and rare 1970 self-titled album on Pickwick International’s P.I.P. imprint provides 6 of the 10 tracks on Thunderbolts of Fuzz. The original White Lightning trio only released one 45-rpm single “Of Paupers and Poets” during their existence (on local Hexagon label in 1968, later reissued by major label ATCO Records in 1969.) A long out-of-print posthumous album released in 1995 gathered unreleased recordings, 3 of which are found here. This rounds out this collection of recorded highlights from the band’s rocky history. BROWN ACID - The 14th Trip (long-lost vintage '60s-'70s proto-metal and stoner rock) -Label:RIDING EASY The 14th edition of the popular compilation series featuring long-lost vintage '60s-'70s proto-metal and stoner rock singles, curated by L.A. label RidingEasy Records and
retailer/label Permanent Records. Some of the best thrills of the Internet music revolution is the ability to find extremely rare music with great ease. But even with such vast archives to draw from, quite a lot of great songs have gone undiscovered for nearly half a century -- particularly in genres that lacked hifalutin arty pretense. Previously, only the most extremely dedicated and passionate record collectors had the stamina and prowess to hunt down long forgotten wonders in dusty record bins -- often hoarding them in private collections, or selling at ridiculous collector's prices. Legendary compilations like 'Nuggets,' 'Pebbles,' ad nauseum, have exhausted the mines of early garage rock and proto-punk, keeping alive a large cross-section of underground ephemera. However, few have delved into and expertly archived the wealth of proto-metal, pre-stoner rock tracks collected on 'Brown Acid.' Lance Barresi, owner of L.A.-based Permanent Records and Permanent Records Roadhouse has shown incredible persistence in tracking down a stellar collection of rare singles from the '60s and '70s for the growing compilation series. Partnered with Daniel Hall of RidingEasy Records, the two have assembled a selection of songs that's hard to believe have remained unheard for so long. COMP CD $12 SKU:25249

POISON HEART -Sailors' Stories (high octane R&R 70s style) Label:HEAVY MEDICATION POLISH IMPORT Ltd ed of 150 . It’s been two years since we’ve heard new material from Warsaw’s punk & roll kings, and it was well worth the wait! Poison Heart really hit their stride with 2018’s “Heart of Black City” album, and these two new songs continue that upward trend with a bruising new guitarist on board and a few new musical ideas thrown into the meaty stew. 45 RPM $10 SKU:25423

BELLA WRECK-ST (power-pop hooks/garage punk)Label:HEAVY MEDICATION POLISH IMPORT Sydney-to-Berlin transplant Dave Thomas and his German comrades combine Radio Birdman riffs and New York Dolls swagger with power-pop hooks and a jolt of Detroit high-energy, yielding hot, saweaty and fun rock & roll the way the gods meant it to be. Listening to this album is like unearthing a stack of killer lost Australian garage-punk 45’s from the 80’s. If you're into Oz bands like the Lime Spiders, Eastern Dark, and The Hitmen, you are going to LOVE this album.

"The album builds on the classic garage rock ‘n’ roll sounds, mixing a bit of Radio Birdman with a bit of Nomads and finding time for New York Dolls along the way – listen to ‘Untold Fury’ and ‘Trash’ and you could be right back there with Thunders et al. They give it their own shine though and it’s fair to say that this album is fantastically enigmatic."
RPM ONLINE

“'Bella Wreck' is a very Australian album - at least if you’re an Australian who soaked up the high-energy rock and roll that hit the country like a bomb in the 1980s. You can hear the sly Radio Birdman lyrical references and there’s no mistaking the guitars that tear at your throat or the band's uncompromising attack, but 'Bella Wreck' ilves on the melodic side of the strasse. If you want a reference point, Happy Hate Me Nots are their cousins."

HELL NATION ARMY- Anthem for the Misanthrope EPCD (Kick-Ass Punk’n’Roll“)-Label:HEAVY MEDICATION POLISH IMPORT Berlin’s Hell Nation Army combine Rock´n´Roll and Punk with a tough-minded attitude they simply call “Kick-Ass Punk’n’Roll“. This, their third e.p., features six songs of relentless, German-engineered motorpunk that’s sweaty, loud, fast and dirty. Smell the burnt rubber, feel the adrenaline rush, and rock out! If you like Gluecifer, Turbonegro or Peter Pan Speedrock, you will not be disappointed. CD $8 SKU:25418

JACK SAINT -ST (Scientists/Gun Club/Fuzztones style) Label:HEAVY MEDICATION POLISH IMPORT Warsaw’s Jack Saint are a howling four-headed swamp-beast with Jim Beam and Jeffrey Lee Pierce’s blood running through its veins. This is noisy, reverb-drenched, mutant blues which will appeal to fans of Beasts of Bourbon, The Scientists, Birthday Party and The Fuzztones. The album contains 8 band originals, plus covers of The Gun Club and Laughing Hyenas. CD $14 SKU:21893

JACK SAINT -Reap What YOu Sow (Scientists/Gun Club/Fuzztones style) Label:HEAVY MEDICATION POLISH IMPORT "Reap What You Sow" may be Jack Saint’s most individually distilled outing to date. The dizzying buffet of skewed post-punk & funk grooves on 'Reap' is an inversion of their debut’s unabashed rawness and in–your–face minimalism. The Lee Hazelwood-inspired opener “Hair of my True Love is Ice-Blond” blends obsessiveness with robust storytelling. The chopped-up Beefheartian stomper “Music Against Nature” serves up a meditation on oppression, while the moody slow-burning funk of “Can You Do Without Your Brother?” encapsulates the albums emotional core. This is noirish mutant blues that’ll wake the neighbors if you live next to a cemetery. It’s Bad Seeds for Bad People! CD $14 SKU:25420

POISON HEART-Heart of Black City (high octane R&R 70s style) Label:HEAVY MEDICATION POLISH IMPORT -Warsaw’s finest purveyors of high-octane punk’n’roll. Since 2010, Poison Heart have been dishing out their dual-guitar assault, made from a steady diet of diesel fumes, Turbonegro, Gluecifer, MC5 and Motorhead.Heart of Black City” finds them stretching out as musicians and songwriters with a more mature sound heavily rooted in 70’s rock: from side-openers “Big City” and “For Life” with their fist-in-the-air singalong choruses to the killeriffic “Prince of Scums” to introspective album closer “Bagarmossen” (dedicated to the late Hellacopters’ guitarist Robert ‘Strängen’ Dahlqvist). This album is highly recommended for fans of bands like The Hellacopters, Backyard Babies, and even Sonic’s Rendezvous Band. CD $18 SKU:21892

JJ & THE REAL JERKS- Mess You Up (raging garage-punk)-Label:HEAVY MEDICATION POLISH IMPORT For those late to the party, L.A.’s JJ & The Real Jerks have been kicking around since 2009, bashing out a handful of singles, e.p.’s and a full-length platter for labels like Dead Beat and Pat Todd’s Rankoutsider Records. Now, these Sons of The Dolls are back in business with their strongest batch of sleazy barroom rock ‘n’ roll yet.

Steeped in boozy swagger and Stonesy git-down, the eight songs on “Mess You Up” do exactly that. Joe “JJ” Jennings and company mix their Johnny Thunders with SoCal punk’n’roll from the glory days of The Humpers and The Dragons and add a spritz of Buzzcocks’ melodic attack. They come blazing out of the gate with dual-guitar overdrive and thrashing rhythm on “Built to Blast”, segue into hooky-as-hell barstool anthems like “Ten Cent Beer Night” and “Lost Souls Pub”, then celebrate the miracle of life with uplifting ditties like “Dead in the Water”, “Deprecation Blues” and “Sinking Feeling”. This is one fun, raging garage-punk platter that’ll spend some serious time on your turntable. LP $17 SKU:25417

FORD’S FUZZ INFERNO - Deniers of Fuzz Will Be ExecutedSAALE!Label:SUBUNDERGROUND This release marks the surprising return of Dutch singer and guitarist Hans F. Ford, following nearly 17 years of silence! Never mind his previous lo-fi/psych project Ford's Imaginary Inferno, 'cos with Ford's Fuzz Inferno he revisits his punk roots! (Hans was a member of early '80s hc-unit Waste and '90s freak punks Betty Ford Clinic.) For the occasion he is joined by his friend Patrick Delabie (a.o. Scoundrels, Betty Ford Clinic and owner of the renowned Studio 195) on drums. The duo's super explosive debut-EP offers five short, ultra catchy blasts that bridge the gap between fuzzed-out garage-punk and early hardcore. And as a bonus there's an almost 3-minute freak-noise jam! This limited DIY-style edition comes with white labels, a paper inner sleeve, a plastic protection bag and a folder cover featuring artwork and lyrics."Musically, imagine Mudhoney at their fuzzed-out best, in a snotty, sneering collision with the Angry Samoans... trust me, it works really well. This is a great record and you really need to hear it!" - Fear And Loathing (UK online fanzine)"This release manages the tricky ability to sound both classic/vintage and at the same time, contemporary and vibrant. It's fast, moderately heavy and catchy as fuck." - Issue (#114 - UK punkzine) 45 RPM $10 SKU:24724

DREADFUL YAWNS, The- ST ( Byrds /Buffalo Springfield style psych, GREAT!) LAST COPIES! DRUIDS-Burnt Offering( 1969 acoustic folk) -Label:ATOM The Druids were a superb acoustic folk quintet formed in 1969, who started a little too late to achieve the major popularity of outfits like Steeleye Span and Fairport Convention, although they were very well respected across the UK. The cover design, containing The Wicker Colossus of the Druids (depicting a scene like something out of the denouement to The Wicker Man), showed that the group meant business, and they had the musical smarts to back it up. There's not a dull or predictable moment here, whether they're singing of lust (‘The Cuckoo's Nest’), plague victims (‘Gabriel John’), or romantic woes (‘The Butcher and the Parson'), as well as a straight acoustic rendition of one version of ‘A Sailor's Life,’ a song that became something of a concert standard for Fairport Convention as an extended electric piece. Itinerant fiddler Dave Broughton joined them, and in 1970, while appearing in a documentary film about English folk musicians, they met fifth member Judi Longden, who added her voice to the proceedings. With their reliance on acoustic instruments, the Druids were far more tradition-based than either Fairport Convention or Steeleye Span. Their repertory consisted of traditional English, Scottish, Welsh, and Irish songs arranged for four voices, and their music had a pleasingly archaic feel, not resembling folk-rock at all. If anything, they sounded more like the kind of outfit that A.L. Lloyd or Ralph Vaughan Williams (editors of the definitive collection of English folk songs) would have approved of, without a trace of uncalled for elegance or pretentiousness. Burnt Offerings is the first time on CD and deserves to be out there sharing a piece of Folk history that allows the world to see how it is done. CD $12 SKU:24840

EARTHEN VESSEL-Everlasting Life ( A must for the psych freak!)Label: GEAR FAB 70s PSYCH -The ultra- rare 1970 LP- Heavy Rock: Everlasting Life. Off the master tapes, this Jefferson Airplane/Cream inspired music is one of a kind. Spacey AND VERY haunting vocals, distorted guitar, Farfisa Organ; it will take you to new limits of Psychedelia.
From on line review -- When I hear the term "xian psych" I usually head the other direction, however this outfit sucked me with the mind blowing psych anthem "Life Everlasting" on a Gear Fab comp and I had no choice but to buy the album. Disappointed? Not in the least, more like surprised! Great fuzz psych with good tunes and some guitar work that would make Blue Cheer blush. Also the male and female vocals are both top notch, and "Life Everlasting" still makes the hair on the back of my neck raise up.A must for the psych freak! CD $10 SKU:23272

No need for gimmicks here, they just love to rock. They love it loud but they dont wanna be "LOUD" like most of the others out there. The combination of Gavin's undeniably distinguished raspy voice, backed by that foot-tapping juice-driving heart-soaring lead guitar with Who-ish rough punchiness creates a sound that is simple but surprising, intense but subtle and shining, shining bright. FLAMES - “Ummm! Ummm! Oh Yeah” + “That’s Enough” (DBL CD - Label:FRESH Throughout the '60s The Flames—featuring future Beach Boy Ricky Fataar along with his brothers Steve Fataar, Brother Fataar and Edries Fredericks— were South Africa's biggest selling band. This double disc set highlights the band's many hits from 1964 to 1966 and includes the "Ummm! Ummm! Oh Yeah" and "That's Enough" albums on Disc 1, and 16 non-album A & B sides singles on Disc 2. This release is a companion to the Retro best selling "Soulfire"/"Burning Soul" reissue. The “Ummm” album (1965) has some nice covers includes two Beatles tracks (‘No Reply’ and ‘Eight Days a Week’), a nice version of ‘You Better Move On,’ and ‘Talkin' Bout You,’ and several others. You have to admire a band like The Flames. An exceptionally talented outfit, the fact they were a non-white group (most of the members were of East Indian extraction), trying to make the big time in apartheid-era South Africa makes them even more special. Records by The Flames are highly collectable, not least because two of their members, Ricky Fataar and Blondie Chaplin, joined The Beach Boys from 1971 to 1973, during which time the albums ‘So Tough’, ‘Holland’ and ‘In Concert’ were made and released CD $16 SKU:19983

BOOTBOY DISCOTHEQUE -14 BOVVER ROCK BRUISERS 1969-1979- CLEAR VINYL Label:YOU BETTER RUN If you went down the wrong alleyway, took a shortcut through the park or crossed the wrong open space after dark in the UK in the 1970s, you stood a fair chance of being accosted by someone with a big mouth, low morals and some gurning mates to impress, usually reeking of fags and cheap booze and always ready to put the boot in. And, before you could say, "sickening violence", a short but chaotic scuffle would ensue and a winner eventually emerge, battle scarred and bruised. The boot boy was the worst kind of hooligan. There wasn't anything you could do or say to appease him. You had the same chance as a fly caught up in a spider's web. Zero. Your best bet was to run. COMP LP $25 SKU:23522

"After years of searching, we have finally discovered a copy of this mega-rare garage LP from an unknown group from Missouri. From 1968, these guys did cover versions of the songs of their day even better than the original artists with a great fuzz garage sound! It is a true shame we do not know the names of these musicians, as the album provides us with no credits whatsoever to these truly talented guys. Mini-LP cardboard sleeve format. Also includes their ultra-rare 45 tracks." LP $16 SKU:14794

ACROSS THE WATER-ST (1975 prog rock rarity)Remastered, Gatefold-Label:SEELIE COURT Split LP has neo-classical prog rock epic on side one, and “gorgeous” downer folk on side two. "An unknown and precious album recorded in 1975 by two friends who recorded one side each, they made just two acetates and then handmade beautiful covers from two enlargements of a photograph of the Isles of St Kilda. Side one is a neo classical prog rock epic in the style of Renaissance and Continuum, inspired by the wild and pagan isles of St Kilda where, as a 16 yr old, the composer Peter McKerrow was taken by military launch to conduct a census on the rare Soay Sheep that live there. A storm blew away his tent on the first night. The other side is by his Canadian pal who attended the same Uni in england, deeply homesick for Canada and surviving a broken relationship these songs are melancholic and Leonard Cohen-esque. The original Lp is astonishingly gorgeous and one of the most desirable artifacts of the prog era.” Gatefold edition, limited to 500x copies. LP $28 SKU:24143

ALLIN, GG -& THE JABBERS- ALWAYS WAS, IS, AND ALWAYS SHALL BE-Label:ORANGE GG Allin is one of the most divisive legends in punk rock history. A true individual, Allin lived the real punk rock lifestyle all the way up until his untimely death of a heroin overdose in 1993. Originally released in 1980, 'Always Was, Is And Always Shall Be' is Allin's debut record and the finest full length he ever released. Full of snotty and brutal punk with Stooges and New York Dolls influences, this is a necessary album for anyone interested in punk history. LP $22 SKU:24828

ANGRY SAMOANS - Back From Samoa- Resissue of 1982 punk classic ltd ed ORANGE- Label:TRIPLE X Destructive, mischievous, and politically incorrect are just some of the words to describe L.A.'s Angry Samoans. And with their second album Back From Samoa, they remain to have that inability to care about who's toes they step on; as long as they continue to blast out their aggressions, it's all good. The results are pretty tasteless and without shame with songs like "They Saved Hitler's Cock" and the cuss ridden "Ballad of Jerry Curlan." Then there's the hit-you-from-behind "Lights Out," "Steak Knife," and "You Stupid Jerk," each clocking in under a minute. With this amount of nihilism, "Back From Samoa" can instigate the trouble-maker out of anyone. And give additional credit to the Samoans for being this blunt, PC activists will be screaming for the doors upon hearing this. ~ Mike DaRonco, All Music Guide LP $20 SKU:25244

APOCALYPSE (USA) -THE CASTLE (Chicago 70s prog w fuzz guitars) Label:OUT-SIDER 70s Chicago-area based band Apocalypse used their double-neck guitars to create chamber prog suites about faraway castles. Their lost 1976 LP (used as a demo), with male/female harmonies, violin, mellotron and fuzzed-out guitars/keys has been unearthed by Steve "Plastic Crimewave" Krakow. With their lenghty and tuneful musical odysseys, Apocalypse conjures the golden mid-'70s progressive period of Renaissance, Soft Machine, ELP, Gentle Giant and Genesis. Travel back in time with the Salvatori family. Way back to 1976, when he was in high school, Tom Salvatori teamed up with older brother Michael Salvatori, Michael's wife Gail Salvatori and Tom's classmate Scott Magnesen. As Apocalypse they recorded an album of pure progressive rock magic called 'The Castle.' Although the 5-song, 38-minute demo was an amazing showcase for their collective progressive rock leanings, 'The Castle' remained an unreleased artifact until 2021 when the reel-to-reel master tape of the presumably long-lost relic was rediscovered by Michael in a dusty old basement storage bin. Music fans can be thankful that Michael's rediscovery of the Apocalypse master tape has now led to a vinyl-only reissue of 'The Castle.'
Sourced from the original masters. Insert with photos and liner notes by Plastic Crimewave. Artwork by Sara Gossett. LP $32 SKU:25140

BONGZILLA- WEEDSCONSIN - stoner psych (SPLATTER) sAALE! Label:HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS On the fringe of chaos, in the Year of the Pandemic, the Cannabeast has awoken!! Bongzilla is back with a full length album, 16 years since their last record. These "Pioneers of Weed Metal" would like to present 'Weedsconsin' to the universe. An album written by the three long standing original members of Bongzilla - Muleboy (bass, vocals), Spanky (guitar), and Magma (drums). Recorded and mixed by the late John Hopkins at Future Apple Tree Studios in Rock Island, Illinois in October 2020. These six tracks will blow your mind! In a single instant you are contaminated by the classic weed-infected sounds the band is known for, while also finding new elements mixed into the bowl. In the unique piece that is 'Weedsconsin', Bongzilla delivers heavy doses of crushing stoner doom and psychedelic space rock that sets it apart from earlier material. (That's why HPS Records is the perfect label to release this stuff). This record travels down a path of heavy riffs, mind-expanding jams, sonic tones, and stomping beats in the band's first release as a thunderous three piece, with Muleboy moving from guitar to bass. Approaching these songs as a three piece has created more space musically and allowed the band to showcase their musicianship in a different way. It results in a sound that is very heavy, along the lines of 'Gateway' tone-wise, but sonically more clear. The album is mastered by Carl Saff at Saff Mastering in Chicago, Illinois, and Eli Quinn (Madison, Wisconsin) is the artist behind the astounding cover art. 'Weedsconsin' is dedicated to the memory of John Hopkins. Comes on transparent green and red splatter vinyl. LP $25 SKU:24513

CARPETTES - FIGHT AMONGST YOURSELVES (80s Stones infl)Label:RADIATION RSD 2022 release. By the time they joined the Beggar's Banquet roster in 1978, Heard was replaced by Tim Wilder (with Simon Smith of the Merton Parkas briefly in the fold). Sophomore album 'Fight Amongst Yourselves' is arguably their best, the appealing material ranging from the socially-relevant power-pop of the title track and the pop-punk of 'The Reason I'm Lonely' to the reggae cadences of 'The Last Lone Ranger'. LP $28 SKU:25091

GRAILS- TAKE REFUGE IN CLEAN LIVING (Pink Floyd/Hawkwind style)SAALE! Label:TEMPORARY RESID Now reissued for the first time in nearly 10 years, 'Take Refuge In Clean Living' saw the band pull back its already wide lens on multiple sonic horizons. Opening with a nod to Syd Barret's Pink Floyd, the album begins with morse code and drops into one of the heaviest slowburn grooves in the Grails canon. Sounding something like Hawkwind and Ravi Shankar scoring 'Blade Runner', it's lysergic and earthy for Grails in a new way. The rest of the record moves from blissful Eno-inspired ambience to epic Morriconesque rock hymns, via an unexpected take on a Ventures tune that returns the listener to the very beginnings of instrumental rock music. AYERS, JAY - ST (1980 yacht rock perfection)-SAALE! Label:TAM Jay Ayers’ self-titled album from 1980 opens with 'Midnight Lady,' three minutes of yacht rock perfection. High-pitched doo-doos and la-la-las hover overhead as the supple rhythm section lays a rock-solid foundation and Ayers yearns desperately for love, even if it’s from a pro. Prominent acoustic guitars give the song rhythmic propulsion like some of the best country-rock hits of the era, and an unexpected clarinet appears midway through to sweeten the mix. 'Easy Way Out' connects, delicately addressing depression with an appropriately melancholy backing and topped with a memorable vocal hook from Ayers in the way he sings the song’s title. The mood suddenly changes on side B, opening with a lively mashup of 'Different Drum' and 'Mr. Tambourine Man.' The guitars are jangly and the sound is more primitive. When he sings, Ayers sounds like a filthy drunkard wailing for quarters on a busy street corner. Instead of shortening the songs and butting them together to create a traditional medley, the tunes are carefully interwoven together, and the seams never show. The more reckless sound on side B shows more personality than the first half. The cover of 'American Girl’ perhaps doesn’t contain the conviction of the original, but the Petty-influenced 'It’s So Hard' is an engaging power-popper with some nifty vocal interplay. I wonder if the mix of the slithery 'One More Night' was intentional. The distant instruments and echo-heavy vocal create a smoky haze, enhancing the lyrics about foolishly holding on to someone." LP $22 SKU:24382
