The title track ‘It's Five O'clock’ quickly followed the same path; released in December 1969, it did well in the charts of many European countries. Dream-like, baroque, carefully crafted pop/psych with English lyrics, in some ways very much in the style of English bands of the era, but with that little twist that makes it very special; three bonus tracks include rare singles; lyrics and photos too in the 16-page booklet. HORDE - Press Button Firmly (mid sixties rare garage ) w 4 bonus tracks -Label:BREAK-A-WAY Rarest 60s garage album by North Carolina students from early 1967. Painstakingly remastered at KSL. Undoubtedly the most exciting mid sixties garage album to be recently discovered in the genre, is that by The Horde from North Carolina. The existence of this self produced album came to collectors ears and eyes only about a year ago. It was recorded more or less accidently in early 1967, released in a micro quantity of only 25 copies and among the local US garage albums of the decade it is one of the few eclectic examples with all the ingredients that makes it outstanding compared with the usual prep-school albums of the time. It contains a blend of exciting originals and well chosen, inspired covers, played in a raw, crude and frantic style. If ever it were true that the over-used assertion that a band's cover versions measured up to the originals, then it is true of The Horde. Why? These five 19-20 year old students from all over the United States did not only blaze a trail for 60s rock in then conservative North Carolina, they also had a general attitude that finds its origins in the young peoples mindset of the mid-sixties that put them outside of the local mainstream and gained them a sort of regional underground popularity. CD has 4 bonus tracks. CD $14 SKU:15346

HUMAN EXPRESSION- Love At Psychedelic Velocity ( 60s psych ) - Label:CICADELIC "In 1966, four high school students from the Los Angeles suburbs formed The Human Expression, and by January 1967, their first single, 'Love At Psychedelic Velocity' b/w 'Every Night', was released to an unsuspecting public. It was a dazzling, driving, opus of mind-bending sounds, and a harbinger of things to come. Their second single, 'Optical Sound' b/w 'Calm Me Down', released in the 'Summer Of Love', was a two-sided tour de force, with brooding introspective lyrics by lead singer, Jim Quarles. The Human Expression's edgy bad boy image was the antithesis of the 'flower-children' image so prevalent for groups in 1967. The Human Expression's third single was 'Sweet Child Of Nothingness', written by Mars Bonfire, who offered the band another new song, 'Born To Be Wild.' Quarles thought the lyrics trite, and since he was the lead singer, the band rejected the song, even before Steppenwolf recorded it. Nevertheless, the three singles The Human Expression released during their short-lived career, would burnish their reputation as one of the finest garage bands to emerge from the mid-60s Los Angeles music scene. Compiled on this CD are all the surviving demos and tapes of The Human Expression, along with rare band memorabilia, and demos by Quarles from 1965 (recorded just before The Human Expression)." LEMON DROPS -Sunshower Flower Power Midwest Psych ) DBL -Label:CICADELIC RECORDS Some of the best droning, fuzz-guitar laced heavy psych of the late 1960’s that’s what we heard when we played the first disc of this terrific double-disc set, compiled and assembled over the course of two years from master tapes. On the other hand, the label says: "The Lemon Drops were pioneers of a psychedelic flower-power sound in and around the Chicago suburbs in 1967. The mastermind behind their music was Rembrandt Records' owner, Reggie Weiss. The first song he wrote for The Lemon Drops was inspired by the effects of a LSD trip and titled 'I Live In The Springtime.' Long recognized as a classic example of psychedelic folk-rock, 'I Live In The Springtime,' has appeared on the Rhino Nuggets box set, Pebbles Volume Eight, Chicago Garage Band Greats, and many other compilations. In addition to the shimmering splendor of 'I Live In The Springtime,' The Lemon Drops left behind a great legacy of music during their brief two-year tenure. Included on this two CD set are many previously unreleased recordings (including two different versions of 'I Live In The Springtime') and a twelve page booklet with extensive liner notes and band memorabilia." We might also add this: great tracks by hard luck psychedelic band; the band's only issued 45 ‘I Live In The Springtime’, has a strong melody that suggested that better things lay ahead.... but as it turned out, none of the band’s other recording sessions were released on record until the mid-eighties on the Cicadelic label; the Lemon Drops recorded a second 45, the hard rockin' ‘It Happens Everyday’, b/w ‘Alone’, at the RCA Studios in Chicago, but it was never released. They then worked on an ambitious new project with tablas, flowery harmonies and numerous special effects the master tapes from this session are included here; by chance, the band played their tape to Buena Vista Productions who offered to put up $250,000 to promote the group: Obviously the band were thrilled, and they recorded a plethora of new songs in Chicago's Sound Studios during November and December 1968; ironically, these efforts too proved to be in vain, for the owner of Buena Vista died in his sleep and the deal was cancelled! Devastated the band split up for good. Any way you slice it (sorry!), this is a reissue that is well worth the money. CD $15 SKU:19792

QUAD - ST (Sun Dial psych ) Label:LION "Comparable to the work of close peer Sonic Boom in Spectrum and EAR, Quad stretch out and dive deep over three long tracks... Very different from Sun Dial's fuzz-heavy psych rock, the meditative, ind-altering nature of 'Temple,' Projection,' and the side-long 'Revisitation Mantra' come closer to Ramon's work with astral explorers Coil, while also sounding distinctly ahead of their time." —Shindig! Magazine (latest issue, review of Sulatron LP edition)

The material recorded by Sun Dial approximately between 1990-1997 under their alter-ego QUAD has been among the most elusive prizes for fans of psychedelia, as it was issued many moons ago as an extremely limited LP in a clear plastic sleeve. It is an album certainly great enough to deserve such avid pursuit by fans of all sorts of psychedelia—mesmerizing, drugged-out and trippy at all times, with sitar and guitar floating in and out and up and down in the mix over some decidedly funky grooves. If there was ever music for dj’s to sample, and yet also for heads to enjoy at home, this is it! Quad started out as a Gary Ramon solo project, on which he worked with collaborators (including "Other Way Out" engineer Lee Allen) to try to develop a library of recordings devoted to electronic cosmic music. The main inspiration was the work of great electronic artists (who were still quite obscure in those days), such as Silver Apples, Tony Conrad, Terry Riley, Pierre Henry, Roland Kovac and improvisational bands including Amon Duul, Siloah—and of course Kraftwerk, Ash Ra Tempel and German bands on the Cosmic Courier, Ohr and Brain labels. CD $10 SKU:5233

SPRIGUNS-TIME WILL PASS(1976 Brit folk rock)Label:ESOTERIC So, you love English folk/rock, but you’ve never heard of Spriguns? Don’t feel bad... Many people outside of England don’t know this group, or their singer, Mandy Morton, even though in her homeland she is considered on a par with such well-known English female folk singers as Sandy Denny (Fairport Convention), and Maddy Prior (Steeleye Span). Formed in 1972, the band was originally known as Spriguns of Tolgus and were formed by Mike and Mandy Morton. The band’s debut album was produced by Tim Hart of Steeleye Span and brought them to the attention of Decca Records for whom the album "Revel Weird and Wild” was recorded in 1976. By this time the band were known as Spriguns and had become more rock influenced. The album "Time Will Pass” followed in 1977 and was perhaps the band’s finest hour, with orchestral arrangements by Robert Kirby, famed for his work with Nick Drake. Perhaps not quite as rare as Mellow Candle’s sole Decca LP; even so, both Spriguns albums are in the same league musically as that of their Irish label-mates. Both of these Esoteric Recordings reissues have been newly remastered from the original Decca master tapes and include a booklet that fully restores all original album artwork. Two superb and often overlooked major label folk rock classics, now available at an affordable price. Morton’s voice is lovely and captivating, the songs lilting and Celtic-ish—if this is a sound you like, these albums are for you! CD $10 SKU:4780

THREE O CLOCK MERRIAN WEBSTER TIME - 22 Psychedelic Sounds from Texas. 66-68Label:CICADELIC RECORDS (USA) By the time 1966 ended, many of the groups in Texas that started out playing British Invasion and folk-rock music, were now immersing themselves in the newly emerging psychedelic music. The five groups that comprise this album reflect the changes that occurred during this period and four of them even changed their names to sound more psychedelic. The Nomads became Smoke, Carrols Mood became The Sights And Sounds, The New Imperials became The Front Page News, and The Boys became The Remaining Few. Represented by twelve tracks on this album, The Nomads/Smoke, started out playing folk-rock music, but by 1967 went psychedelic-as witnessed by their “freak-out” version of “My Little Red Book” replete with backwards tapes. “Carrols Mood” went from singing ballads to surreal songs such as “Mystical Bells”. The Front Page News went from the soul of “Baby Let Me Bang Your Box” to the fuzz drenched “Thoughts and Afterthoughts”. If the 13th Floor Elevators were the epitome of what a Texas psychedelic band was, then the groups on this album were not far behind in trying to emulate that state of existence. Here then are twenty-two tracks compiling the changes that occurred from late 1966 to 1968, when the Texas bands went metaphorically speaking from “Kool-Aid” to “Electric Kool-Aid Acid” COMP CD $10 SKU:13278

ARCESIA-Reachin' (rare 70’s private press acid-rock / pop, gatefold, w insert and lyrics -Label:GUERSSEN RECORDS (SPAIN) A classic since year zero of rare record collecting, Reachin' Arcesia has always been the focus of many rumors and bizarre stories. Guerssen sets the record straight with this, the first ever legitimate reissue of this legendary album. John Arcesi was a veteran singer of the big band era who, in the early '70s, recorded a pop album with help from an anonymous hip studio musicians. The album was released in a private edition of 300 copies and most of them were given away to family and friends. In the late '80s, one of those copies was unearthed by record dealer Paul Major, who was one of the first people to appreciate the singularity of Reachin' Arcesia. Since then, the album, which mixes over-the-top crooner vocals with late '60s acid-rock and pop arrangements, has developed a reputation as a lounge-psych/real people masterpiece. Remastered and presented in a gatefold sleeve with the original artwork on the back and a new cover design on the front. Includes insert with lyrics. Features detailed liner notes and rare photos in the inner gatefold, telling the real story of John Arcesi. LP $19 SKU:16346

COSMIC MICHAEL- St ( Ultra-crude basement garage psych and acid-boogie-blues from 1969 ) - Label:OUT-SIDER Ultra-crude basement garage psych and acid-boogie-blues from 1969!!! First ever vinyl reissue, original artwork, insert with reproduction of the original poster plus pasteable reproductions of original LP labels like those that came with the original release. Newly remastered sound

Who was the mysterious Cosmic Michael? Nobody knows for sure…rumour goes that he was a freak from New York who later relocated to the West Coast after living the Woodstock dream. That’s all we know about him. But before vanishing without trace, Cosmic Michael self-released a couple of primitive, home-made albums on his Bliss label. This is his first one, DIY stoner bluesy garage psychedelia with crude organ, guitars and vocals. Featuring underground classics like “Cosmic Michael Theme” (covered in 2013 by neo-psych band Psychic Ills) and “Now That You’ve found it” among others.. “One of the least “cosmic”-sounding cosmic LPs around, with a loose urban soundcheck vibe using equal parts Vox organ, piano and crude guitar, on top of which Michael semi-improvs lyrics to a steady basement boogie beat. An unusual LP that falls between any genres you can think up; The top attraction is Cosmic Michael’s “Theme” which describes in third person the acid-indulged transformation he’s undergone: “…some kind of chemical change is going on in poor Michael’s brain…” set to a rockin’ garage fuzz beat” - Patrick Lundborg (Acid Archives) “…Stoned '60s DIY rock 'n'roll. You can call it lo-fi or home made, but the message remains: Cosmic Michael preaches love and freedom, and he's a mean boogie-woogie player too. The songs run one after the other, as if part of one spontaneous recording …” - Forced Exposure. LP $19 SKU:16546

DEVIL’S KITCHEN- ST (SF 60s psych ) Label:LYSERGIC SOUND First ever release by DEVIL’S KITCHEN, perhaps the best of the greatly talented but “forgotten” bands from the legendary San Francisco psychedelic scene of the late 1960’s. This heavy guitar-powered psychedelic four piece band moved from their original Southern Illinois base to the Bay Area during The Summer Of Love. The band came to the attention of Bill Graham and Chet Helms in 1968 and was soon playing on a regular basis at The Fillmore West. A short time later Devil’s Kitchen became the house band at Helms’ Family Dog Ball-room on The Great Highway in San Francisco and remained there in that capacity from the spring of 1968 until the summer of 1970. Devil’s Kitchen played all the major venues in The Bay Area and Los Angeles during this time period, opening for and playing frequently with many very well-known bands, including The Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Santana, Quicksilver Messenger Service, The Allman Brothers, Big Brother And The Holding Company with Janis, The Charlatans and many, many others. The band spurned a recording contract offer from Mercury Records in 1968, displeased with the lack of creative control offered them by the label. Consequently, they never released any recordings. There are eight original unreleased tracks on this album and all were taken from the original master tapes that were recorded in 1969 at The Family Dog Ballroom On The Great Highway in San Francisco and the Sierra Sound Recording Studio in Berkeley. The music has a great and unmistakable late 60’s acid-drenched West Coast guitar-driven blues-psych sound with snakey electric slide and roaring fuzz guitar throughout, provided by the talented Robbie Stokes who later went on to play with Quicksilver Messenger Service and appeared on Mickey Hart’s 1972 “Rolling Thunder” LP, just to mention two of his many musical credits. The discovery of these master tapes and this subsequent release of Devil’s Kitchen’s first full length album, more than forty years after the recordings were made, is an exciting find for the collectors of obscure 60’s psychedelia. How a great band like this remained under the radar and unreleased for all these years is mystifying. Limited pressing of 1,000 hand-numbered copies. Welcome again to the great San Francisco sound of the late 1960’s! LP $21 SKU:12995

TROYES-Love Comes, Love Dies: The Troyes Complete recordings (1966-68) ESSENTIAL MICHIGAN GARAGE PSYCH)-Label:LION Essential Michigan garage/psych! Propelled by their local chart-topper 'Rainbow Chaser,' Battle Creek quintet The Troyes entered the orbit of bandleader Ray Anthony (“Dragnet”, “Peter Gunn”), laying down a multitude of fuzztone laced tracks throughout 1966-1967 that, save for one 7” release on his Space Records label, remained unreleased on vinyl—until now.

The Troyes exploded onto the music scene with 'Rainbow Chaser'. Sensing a new phenomenon, famed bandleader Ray Anthony signed the group to his new rock label Space Records. His faith in the band was so big that nearly two albums worth of material were recorded at United Sound (Detroit). Unfortunately, only two singles were issued. Far-out psychedelia, unhinged fuzz and farfisa garage, moody haunting sounds, face melters (check out 'Corn Flake')—it's all here. Rare photos, radio surveys, newspaper articles, Troyes memorabilia, and the story of a band that could have been big.

“Dare I say, even far better than the oft-lauded, collectible brigade of both reissued and unissued ‘60s LPs. The Bachs? The Dimensions? The Tempos? The Rising Storm? Public Nuisance? Sorry. This Troyes disc trumps them all.” —“Moptop” Mike Markesich, Ugly Things

"Had a Troyes LP come out in 1967, it would be well ensconced today as one of the Top 5 best from the era" —Ugly Things

"'Take 'Morning of the Rain' as a starting point: not satisfied with a ferociously twisted Dave Davies-aping "metal riff" they subject you to a blazing torrent of fuzztone and a growl of feedback topped with sinister Farfisa tones—a hundred Nuggets sets are woefully bereft of this unissued scorcher." —Shindig!

•"Essential? You bet." —Shindig!

•Masters meticulously prepared and cut for vinyl.

•Comes in deluxe tip-on jacket, including photos, newspaper articles, and the story of a band that could have been big.

•Edition of 500x copies
