His drumming drives the sound while the chugging guitar of Isdarka helps to create a massive wall of sound. Bassist and vocalist Daraya tops it all off with a dynamic range and style. CD $15 SKU:19802

TONO QUIRAZCO - Jamaica - ONE ONLY! RARE MEXICAN SKA mini LP SLVLabel:VAM RECORDS (MEXICO) Perhaps the most important figure the in history of Mexican ska, Toño Quirazco both introduced the genre to Mexico and, backed by his Hawaiian Orchestra, became its most important purveyor in the mid-'60s. Toño traveled to Jamaica himself, sent by Orfeon Records to learn the secrets of ska music and bring them back to Mexico. On his return, it was decided that some Jamaican ska was too slow for Mexican audiences so Toño speeds things up bit and the result is a very upbeat record, indeed! The album is largely instrumental although a few songs are vocal numbers like "Jamaica Ska" which introduced the new rhythm to the Mexican audience, saying you dance to it "as if it were cha-cha-cha," and the Spanish language version of the classic "Shame and Scandal." Though it has an irresistible, authentic Jamaican rhythm at its core, its and sound and charm are augmented by a lot of fun touches that you wouldn't find on your average Jamaican record of the period. For instance, a number of songs have their melody carried by a Hawaiian slide guitar (Toño's instrument) and there's the vaguely Russian sounding "Moscú Ska." Other tracks on this magnificent set include "Mérida Ska," "Tutricumbanchi Baila Ska," "La Múcura," "Ska Hawaiiano," a bouncy version of Herbie Hancock's "Watermelon Man" called "El vendedor de melones," "Ska de los Santos," and a cover of "Mack the Knife" here called "Pepe el navaja." CD $15 SKU:19803

TONO QUIRAZCO - Soul Makossa ONE ONLY! RARE MEXICAN mini LP SLVLabel:VAM RECORDS (MEXICO) Toño Quirazco was a true musical chameleon, skipping from one genre to another, always capturing its essence while giving it his own unique touch. Having conquered ska and boogaloo, here he tries his hand at Afrobeat! The album's title-track is a cover of Manu Dibango's great "Soul Makossa," which retains the funky groove of the original but with the addition of lots of groovy Hammond organ. The album is loads of fun as Toño and his group dish out plate after plate of tasty early '70s funk with a distinctive Latino twist. (The album also credits Las Gemelas De Oro ["The Golden Twins"], two foxy go-go dancers whom, it seems, had nothing to do with the recording of this album whatsoever!) A recurring feature of the album is Toño's creative riffing on "Makossa" and we have in addition to the original "Makossa en Acapulco," "Tequila Makossa," "Psicosis de Makossa," and "Makossa de Tokio." Other tracks include the gloriously funky "Sesión verde," "Elena," "Mi Loco (Parte Dos)," "Lily," and "Happiness (Felicidad)." CD $15 SKU:19804

AGAPE -The Problem Is Sin: Live And Unreleased (1973 blazing acid jam but with Jesus!)-Label:HIDDEN VISION Collection of rare material, much of it only previously available on an extremely rare promo-only 8-track tape (!) from one of the first hard rock Jesus music bands, formed around the talent of Fred Caban during the early stages of what became known as the Jesus People movement. Most of it is live from 1973, the stand-outs being a blazing acid jam versions of ‘Wouldn’t it Be a Drag’ and ‘Change of Heart’, live at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, CA. Upon graduating from high school in the spring of 1968, Hendrix-influenced guitarist Fred Caban and his bandmates squeezed into a small Volkswagen van in search of venues to perform. One night, at Huntington Beach's Lightclub, they met a group of enthusiastic teenagers whom Caban described as being "totally immersed with the message of Christ." Though not totally understanding the "Lightclubber's” message, Caban began praying for an introduction to "whomever was out there." When he returned to the van he shared his experience and found that fellow bandmate Jeff Newman had also undergone a spiritual conversion. Caban formed another band naming it Agape, the Greek word for God's love. Having established himself as a guitarist of some merit, the band capitalized on his name to gather crowds. Agape's vision became evangelistic–desiring to share their experience with their peers. "We'd play one or two songs, we'd jam, we'd blow them away and then boom, we'd start preaching..... and people would actually stick around and listen." Within six months a group of fifty young converts had joined the trio as a loose amalgamation of spiritually searching teenagers who gathered together for Bible studies and strategy sessions to promote the band's concerts. ALEX- ST PLUS THATS THE DEAL (1976 TURK ROCK)Label:GERMANOFON His first two LP's from 1974 and 1976 on one CD, complete and with all original jacket artwork and lyrics. Now performs as Alex Oriental Experience. "A singer and multi instrumentalist from Cologne who released several albums which were strongly influenced by the ethnic music of Turkey. His first two albums are now eagerly hunted by collectors, as they featured a unique style of 'Turk-Rock' with stunning baglama solos (this is a kind of three-stringed Turkish guitar)! They were recorded with the help of Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit (possibly adding bass and drums on certain tracks?) at Can's Inner Space studio, so take note all you Can collectors!" (Cosmic Dreams At Play) and from elsewhere: “Magnificent Kraut meets Oriental albums by one of the considered pioneers of the genre. Members of Can participated in these first two records (including Jaki Liebezeit, Helmut Hattler, Horst Stachelhaus, and others). These two first records of Alex Wiska came with simply his name, Alex, and are very oriental/Turkish rock oriented. His later records under the name Alex Oriental Experience are much more space rock/kraut oriented. Many comparisons were made with the Turkish band Cem Karaca. Great saz tunes by Alex and good accompanied by some of the brightest names of German rock scene. Highly recommended... not to be missed!” CD $8 SKU:19034

ALL TOMORROW’s PARTY - Yoo Doo Right, Yoo Doo Slide (great Hendrix style guitar) -Label:ALIVE A modern acid-gobbling mélange of Hendrixian guitar, sonorous bass and hissingmaracas, performed by a Japanese space-rock trio with musical roots in the ’60s and '70s. “Music this passionate and memorable comes around butrarely, I suggest you grab a slice of the cake and have yourself a realgood time.” - Terrascope. “Dark, psychedelic, and always passionate.” – The Sentimentalist CD $5 SKU:4201

ALLAN DAVIE AND THE ARROWS - Arrow Dynamic Sounds ( Surf/Fuzz ) -Label:TOTAL ENERGY Starting in the '60s as a surf group, Davie Allan & the Arrows took instrumentalmusic a step further, hot-wiring their sound with the abuse of fuzz pedal. "Talking about pop culture, baby? Allan was an architect, a natural fact rock & roll artist. Allan's ax rocks, stalks and talks with heat, assurance and (believe it or not) a maturity that transforms the oft-shallow rock-instro into epic-scale slabs of rock & roll expression. Dazzling." - L.A. Weekly CD $5 SKU:2233

ALLEN, GREG GROUP -Just for You (NEW YORK DOLLS) Label:BONAFIDEROCK Greg Allen was the last guy to play with Jerry Nolan (New York Dolls, Heartbreakers) - and the CD is dedicated to him - but don't expect another Johnny Thunders clone. He's got a unique song writing style that evokes a New York city that doesn't exist anymore through a cast of twisted characters. The music is pure rock and roll and includes performances by Johnny Rao (David Johansen Band/Helen Schneider and the Kick) and other luminaries. Get this while you can. "Greg Allen happens to be quite a musician and he writes good songs...He's good. He's really, really good."- Jerry Nolan, Tee Vee Tunes Records interview, 1991"Greg Allen played with ex-New York Doll Jerry Nolan and his band features some other folks with good bloodlines. ALPAY- YETKE (70s TURKISH PSYCH) - Label:PHARAWAY SOUNDS IIn Turkey, psychedelia wasnt just some fleeting fad. Fuzzed-out guitar shredding genuinely intersected with some of the goals of traditional folk & classical music. As a result, even former twist singers & folk balladeers explored some fascinating & wild territory. Meet Alpay, the soccer player turned lawyer turned singer who started matching local lyrics to Western arrangements even before the mid-60s countrywide battle of the bands concerts. These early 70s singles lay down doleful Anatolian melodies, and they're simply soaking in heavy & wah-ed out guitar solos. If you're ready to go beyond Baris & Erkin, this is the perfect spot. Remastered Sound, insert / booklet with liner notes by Angela Sawyer (Weirdo Records CD $10 SKU:19200

ALVARO LOPEZ y Sus Grandes Del Twist- DINAMO TWIST - 1962 2 ONLY -MINI LP SLV Label:VAM Dinamo Twist is an incessantly grooving and energetic album from drummer Álvaro López y Sus Grandes Del Twist from 1962. It's also loads of fun! From the back cover of the original record we learn that Álvaro was something of a musical prodigy, starting on the drums at a very early age and playing in jazz combos by the time he was 17. Not sure how old he is on this album, but he looks about 12 in the photo on the back! The album's notes also tell us that when he heard the twist he loved it so much that he decided to make his own group play in that style. Much of the set is instrumental with a handful of vocal numbers as well. It's all very upbeat, direct dance music -- the twist with a Latino touch -- with the driving drums of Álvaro up front in the mix and supported melodically by punchy horns. This is such seriously groovy stuff, it's a shame there aren't more recordings from this group! Includes a fantastic cover of Henry Mancini's "Peter Gun" plus "Dynamo," "El Gallo," "Ya me voy," "Lo mejor," "Siboney," which sounds remarkably like "One Step Beyond" by Prince Buster/Madness, "La Adelita," "Otro tequila," "Muchachos grandes," and more. CD $10 SKU:19389

ANDERSON,THOMAS - Moon Goin' Down (great melodic pop ) PRE ALIVE LABEL - LAST COPIES Label:MARILYN "Thomas Anderson is clearly the greatest unknown songwriter on the planet." -- The Village Voice. Hailing from Oklahoma and raised on a diet of Jimmy Webb and Woody Guthrie music, Thomas Anderson's records have been described as fitting with the likes of Elliott Smith or Mary Lou Lord. "Moon Going Down" was released in 1998 and unfortunately fell through the rock'n'roll cracks. Anderson's music writings have also been published in such magazines as Trouser Press, the Bob, Musician, Rolling Stone and Creem. "When I started doing this, I wanted to establish up front that my allegiance was with rock 'n' roll and not singer/songwriters. God love 'em, but a lot of them are telling the same stories about dusty roads, country back porches, and missing you. Here I am singing about Martians. That's my thing. There are other stories to tell, and I want to be the one to tell them." - Thomas Anderson CD $5 SKU:2363

The band went on to record two further studio albums including “Elysian Encounter” in 1975 and “Hearts On Fire” in 1976. This live recording, which forms part of the Official Ginger Baker Bootleg Series, was recorded in Milan on the 23rd of March 1976 during the tour to promote what would turn out to be the bands final studio album, “Hearts On Fire.” The set list at this time reflecting the desire to promote the album included four tracks from the album including ‘Hearts On Fire,’ ‘Night People,’ ‘Thirsty For The Blues’ and ‘Neon Lights.’ There are also two tracks from “Elysian Encounter” (‘People’ and ‘Time’) and two from the bands self titled debut (‘Inside Of Me’ and ‘Memory Lane’). BALTIMORE TEEN BEAT A GO GO - VA 180g Vinyl (rare 60s Garage)Label:GET HIP Reissue of ultra-rare early 60’s Dome Records classic LP compilation of Teen Garage Bands from the Baltimore, MD area. Ralph Johnson, president of Wedge & Dome Records, was also the sponsor of many “Battle Of the Bands” shows throughout Maryland. These shows helped them find the bands that hadn’t already found them, since the grand prize for these shows was to have one of their songs on this album. The second prize at these shows was that they would pay 50% of their expenses to get a track for the album. These bands made up the Baltimore sound of the sixties- Baltimore’s own contribution to the Garage Band Sound. Thanks to Get Hip Records, this material is now available again. BEST ARIZONA GARAGE BANDS 1967- 1970- VA W 20 page booklet -Label:HDM RECORDS In addition to music that captures a moment in time, the release features a 20 page booklet filled with the story of each of the groups included here along with period photography, show flyers and more. The Arizona music scene during the sixties can easily be likened to its desert surroundings: The monotony of average and sometimes even good bands writing less than good and even average songs. Then one day you hear a band that knocks you out. Those are the kinds of bands that I had the opportunity to discover and produce that suddenly emerged out of garages and other little holes in walls ? wherever they could find a place to converge and create their music. I now have the honor and the privilege to present to you the bands that I think are Arizona's best garage bands from 1967 to 1970.' -- Hadley Murrell. "At an age when most of us were just listening to music, Hadley Murrell got involved. At 14 he started playing drums with The Carnations, and went on to work in radio, as well promoting shows and other live events. Much of what he made went towards studio time to produce the music heard in this collection. Often garage rock is under produced to its detriment. That's not the case here, Murrell recorded at Phoenix's Audio Records, other clients included Dwayne Eddy, Dyke & The Blazers and Waylon Jennings (among many others). And unlike many garage rock sides ? Hadley took his performers into the studio prepared and ready to lay down tracks as hot as the Arizona desert. In addition to music that captures a moment in time, the release features a 20 page booklet filled with the story of each of the groups included here along with period photography, show flyers and more." SANDHY & MANDHY - Para Castukis (Rare 70s psych) 60s style gatefold jacket - Label:LION Here at last is a chance to discover why people have been willing to pay a very steep price to hear Sandhy & Mandhy, the duo who were not a duo, the band who were not a band, creators of perhaps the rarest and most expensive album from Argentina. To tell the story of Sandhy & Mandhy, we have to go back to 1967, when Alberto Infusino (Sandhy) and Alberto Vanasco (Mandhy) began their musical partnership in the beat band The New Free Men. Like many bands of that time, Los Shaker1s and Los Walkers, for example, the New Free Men played covers of songs by the Zombies, Animals, Kinks, Yardbirds, Doors, and so on, in clubs and at parties. Yet at the same time, Infusino and Vanasco started to play their own compositions, with a national touch to the music. Let’s let Vanasco (Mandhy) take up the story: “ In 1969, we went to talk with Billy Bond, chief of La Pesada del Rock Roll, to ask about the chance to make an album. Bond said that he was not looking for a band, but for a duo who sang songs in Spanish... So, we called some friends to play together, and we called the project Sandhy & Mandhy.” They recorded the album in three hours, with a full band (Farfisa organ, congas, drums, bass, and guitars)‹one take of each song. Instead of a demo, they decided to press an LP: the company (Phonalex) pressed 110 LPs in total, which the band gave out at gigs. Sandhy & Mandhy were one of the first bands in South America bring a rebellious attitude to the music scene‹all this in a period of military repression, when forced haircuts in the streets were a common occurrence. Although they broke new ground, success was not their fate. And so thirty-eight years after the burst of improvisation that was Sandhy & Mandhy, the rest of the world can finally take a taste of their dark, groovy, beat-influenced psychedelia (that fuzz guitar on the excellent Lluvia). At times introspective and acoustic, at others manic and ramshackle in the best way, it1s quite a discovery. Now, on to the presentation‹the highest quality mastering and pressing (done at Acoustech Mastering/RTI in California, the same people who master and press every title that audiophile label Classic Records makes); the resulting LP is housed in a poly-lined sleeve, inside an ultra-heavy 1960's style gatefold jacket, which is housed in a loose-fitting plastic sleeve. Inside the sleeve, you will find an insert with full details on Sandhy & Mandhy, including lyrics in Spanish and English, printed on 100% recycled paper. The LP labels are replicas of the originals. A top of the line pressing all the way. Limited edition of 800 copies. LP $14 SKU:19499

SEA-DERS - ANTHOLOGY (60s Lebanese Rock) Booklet contains liner notes by Mike Stax -Label:GROOVIE Contains all known grooving and infectious Middle Eastern inflected rock/beat tracks from the Sea-ders (or Cedars, depending on which 45 label you look at), Lebanon's top musical export to the world. Eight dynamic tracks, with driving rhythms, blazing electric bouzouki (or oud?), recorded between 1966-1968. Fantastic! Many groups have used elements of Eastern music to add mystery and exotica to their sound; the Sea-ders didn't flirt with foreign culture—they tapped right into the source. Decca Records contacted the group and offered them a record deal in the UK. Well, that didn't pan out, making the band's EP a very rare item indeed, despite being one of the most exciting releases of the era. Faced with studio bills from Decca, they sold their instruments and equipment and moved back to Beirut, leaving this perfect microcosm of exotic '60s pop in their wake. Liner notes by Mike Stax (Ugly Things Magazine). Limited pressing of only 500 copies. This time around, vinyl is mastered at 45 RPM, for maximum fidelity. The Sea-ders would only record eight tracks, but what amazing tracks they are! LP $13 SKU:8849

SHAG- 1969 Acid psych with insert with liner notes and photos -Label:OUT-SIDER SHAG was born from the ashes of garage band The Shags (of “Stop and Listen” fame). In the late 60s, they moved from Milwaukee to California, where they played at all the major venues and ballrooms, supporting famous bands like Jefferson Airplane and The Who. In 1969, the band recorded a demo at Pacific High Recordings in San Francisco, at the same time as the Grateful Dead were recording their classic “Working Man’s Dead” album there. The demo was in fact a fully finished album of bombastic psychedelia, acid-rock and proto-prog with loud fuzz-wah guitars, long tracks, crazy percussion and killer flute. Here’s the first ever vinyl reissue of these lost recordings. Master tape sound, insert with liner notes and photos LP $16 SKU:16281
