13. Tayles Who Are These Guys? (1972) Recorded live at the Nitty Gritty, this collection of blues-rock captures the musical feel of Vietnam-era Madison. Paul Reyzold's organ added pyschedelia that was as bright as a tie-dyed shirt; Scott Eakin's flute was as groovy as a VW bus. Jeremy Wilson started the band in 1966. Like hippie culture, Tayles faded away near the end of 1972. CD $10 SKU:19456

This is the first authorised edition with the band's involvement, the band also coloured an original photo for the cover art of the cd. Includes all tracks in correct order, correctly titled, with the full restored track lengths as well as 5 bonus tracks from the same period, including doom psych tracks such as the uplifting 'My Name Is Death'. TEK,DENIZ-LOST FOR WORDS (RAdio Birdman)Label:CAREER Deniz Tek, guitarist and founding member of legendary Australian proto-punk band Radio Birdman, releases an awesome album of guitar dominated instrumentals CD $19 SKU:22645

TELESCOPES -EXPLODING HEAD SYNDROME(psych space rock)-Label:TAPETE Influence from artists such as Suicide, The Velvet Underground and The 13th Floor Elevators. The 11th full-length from The Telescopes consists of eight songs and incantations that form a series of sonic convulsions stretching the parameters of intuitive composition to the point of auditory illusion. CD $19 SKU:24112

TELESCOPES -Untitled Second - first US release w/3 bonus tracks ( psych rock shoegaze) - Label:BOMP THE TELESCOPES don’t get the ink of their 80s/90s psych rock contemporaries like SPACEMEN 3, LOOP or the shoegazers, likely due to their releases being mostly confined to their native U.K. But the band, led then and now by STEPHEN LAWRIE, is just as notable as their scene mates. Originally released on Creation in 1992 (1994 in the States as part of the ill-fated Creation/Tristar deal), this awkwardly titled sophomore album is a fine examples of postpunk psychedelic rock/pop. Dreamy vocals and pretty melodies flow through a gauze of acoustic and electric guitars; the angry stomp of their Stooges period is left behind in favor of lighter rhythms that stop well short of Madchester happy feet. CD $10 SKU:16739

TELLTALE HEARTS- High Tide (snotty mid-60s style garage punk with R&B and blues influence )LAST COPIES Label:VOXX Anthology '83-'86 - 21 cuts, including 9 previously unreleased, highlight this killer compilation from San Diego's version of the Shadows Of Knight. Back in the days of the mid-80s "garage revival" scene that revolved around the Cavern Club, there was no doubt that the Tell-Tale Hearts led the pack of "paisley underground" bands that were popping up everywhere. They combined primitive and snotty mid-60s garage punk with R&B and blues influences, and had in Ray Brandes a great vocalist. Bill Calhoun played the keys, Eric Bacher was the guitarist, Dave Klowden the powerhouse drummer, and Mike Stax (publisher of the great Ugly Things fanzine) the "bass that ate San Diego." These guys had it all: the "look," the sound, and the carefree attitude. CD $15 SKU:23244

TEN HIGH - Party Store (great Detroit garage MC5 style with appearance by ? and the Mysterians!) LAST COPIES!-Label:TOTAL ENERGY The first full length featuring WENDY CASE (The PAYBACKS) in the tradition of MC5, Stooges-Guest appearance 'by ? & Mysterians Bobby Balderama. Great Detroit garage in the Rationals / Pleasure Seekers tradition. CD $10 SKU:2239

TERRY & THE PIRATES- Comanche Boots (70s San Francisco Quicksilver Messenger Service )-Label:ACADIA Twenty nine years after the release of the original Too Close For Comfort comes the third issue of this priceless and timeless music from San Francisco's own Terry & The Pirates.” Another view: “Probably only remembered today as one of the many bands graced by the guitarwork of John Cipollina following his departure from Quicksilver Messenger Service, and as a footnote in the career of Nicky Hopkins, Terry and the Pirates deserve much greater recognition. Although Cipollina’s feral guitar is undoubtedly essential to their charms, the work of Terry Dolan himself should not be underestimated. His voice is an acquired taste, a strange mixture of David Crosby and Captain Beefheart, but as such, it’s impressively distinctive. Meanwhile, his songwriting mines that same rich vein of American folk which yielded ‘Pride Of Man’ (so memorably covered by Quicksilver). The best songs on this collection of various live and studio recordings are certainly Dolan’s own. Whilst a version of Jackie Wilson’s ‘Higher & Higher’ might be entertainingly audacious, covers of ‘Mystery Train’ and ‘Don’t Do It’ aren’t going to make anybody forget those by The Band, despite some impressive sparring between Cipollina and second guitarist Greg Douglass on the latter. In this context, tracks like ‘Inside and Out’ and ‘Inlaws and Outlaws’ distinguish themselves as fine examples of original Californian rock n’ roll. Even if none of this is especially ground-breaking or epoch-defining music, it’s played with spirit and any fans of West Coast music who might have easily overlooked it should be sure to rectify their mistake. CD $10 SKU:18999

THREE HEADED DOG-Hound of Hades (UK 70s underground)-Label:AUDIO ARCHIVES THREE HEADED DOG-Hound of Hades A mysterious three-piece from Birmingham, Three-Headed Dog played underground hard-rock, clearly influenced by other contemporaries from the Birmingham rock scene such as Judas Priest and Black Sabbath and Wishbone Ash. Three-Headed Dog were among the more obscure acts playing a circuit which included bands like Iron Claw, Necromandus and Flying Hat Band. Before disappearing in the mist of time, they left behind an ultra rare demo tape - recorded in 1973 - which included a couple of cover versions from Wild Turkey and Edgar Broughton Band along with self-penned material. This CD also features a few bonus tracks from other rare bands of the era discovered in the studio's archives. CD $12 SKU:24869

THREE SEASONS-THINGS CHANGE(vintage '70s sounding acid blues rock) Label: TRANSUBSTANS THREE SEASONS is one of today's leading vintage '70s sounding acid blues rock units. On their fourth album these Swedes will teleport your right back to the early '70s when heavy blues rock bands were dominating the world. But it's not just blues oriented hard rock what we have here, there are elements of many other styles. The result is an absolutely fabulous album with amazing production, that takes the band to the next -incredibly high- level. CD $16 SKU:19712

It's a vast tapestry of psychedelic weirdness, abundant with flangers, bongos, echo units, and extreme WAH WAH action. It won't be too difficult to discren THTX's musical influences on this one. There are traces of CAN, TERRY RILEY, FDEEP PURPLE, SOFT MACHINE, BLUE CHEER, SUN RA, AMON DUUL, etc.. THTX genrally stick to instrumentals, but this time there is a VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR cover with vocals. CD $8 SKU:20384

THUNDERS, Johnny--Diary of a Gypsy Lover 23 TRAX ALTERNATE STUDIO CUTS,LIVE,RADIO)?Label:SONIC Punk rock guitar hero, earning a cult following for his noisy but epic style a few years before the insouciant new music gained its name. Following in the footsteps of his idol and role model Keith Richards, Johnny Thunders (born John Anthony Genzale, Jr.) lived the ultimate rock & roll life, spending most of his days churning out tough, sloppy three-chord rock & roll and gaining nearly as strong a reputation for his decades-long struggle with addiction as for his music. Thunders made his greatest impact as a member of the New York Dolls, the proto-punk glam rockers of the early '70s. During the late '70s, he was a familiar figure on the New York punk scene, both with his band the Heartbreakers and as a solo artist. Thunders performed and recorded steadily until his death in 1991, turning out a series of records that inadvertently documented the struggles of his life and his art. CD $10 SKU:20428

TIMES -HERE COME THE TIMES Vol1(late 80s Britpop) Label:HEAVY SOUL Premier leaders of the mod and indie scene of the early to late '80s and beyond, Ed Ball's The Times produced some of the best '60s inspired tracks recorded - a string of pre-Britpop Britpop LPs that transcended the line between mod and a more refined commercial sound and here on this LP are a selection of favourites from the early years. Ed himself has kindly contributed some great liner notes. CD $17 SKU:25278

TINTERN ABBEY- BEESIDE: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS (2CD) unreleased Brit psychLabel:GRAPEFRUIT The greatest, most important cache of unreleased vintage British psychedelia to have surfaced for decades, 'Beeside: The Complete Recordings' gathers together everything ever recorded by the iconic Tintern Abbey. A legendary name from the British psychedelic scene, Tintern Abbey's enduring reputation rests on one of the definitive forty-fives to emerge from the genre, the November 1967 coupling of 'Beeside' backed with 'Vacuum Cleaner' which originally appeared on Deram. Since its release, just a small handful of skeletal demo recordings have trickled out, all of which were essentially minor addenda to the band's little-documented but legendary career. Now, Grapefruit has finally unearthed the full, definitive story. After two decades of planning, research, tape transfer and sound restoration, 'Beeside: The Complete Recordings' features over two hours of music recorded by Tintern Abbey between the summer of 1967 (when they spent a month in a Cornwall cottage, rehearsing and taping their performances prior to their London launch) and the end of 1968. Featuring more than 90 minutes of previously unreleased and unheard material, indeed, everything on the 68-minute disc two is now receiving its first-ever public airing. Alongside that genre-defining Deram single and those previously-leaked demos are some astonishing treasures. Included are two finished masters of the intended late 1967 follow-up 45 'Snowman' (a disorientating melange of sinister Mellotron, disembodied voices and backward tapes that was abandoned when original guitarist Don Smith left the group); the Arabic-sounding 'My Prayer' and the 'SF Sorrow'- anticipating 'Let The Wind Blow', along with late 1968 creations like 'Raspberry Ripple', 'Life Goes By' and 'My House' suggesting that, even at the point of their collapse, Tintern Abbey remained a vital, vibrant unit. Featuring a 6000 word essay with band quotes and previously unpublished photos and memorabilia, this lovingly-assembled 2CD set is the final word on a group that turned out to be as mysterious and elusive as the Wordsworth poem that inspired their name. CD $24 SKU:24829

Alberto Vanasco Jr. (Mandhy) resumes his musical tale with twelve tracks written between 1968 and 1978. KILLED BY DEATH- Vol. 1 ( EXCELLENT RARE 70S U.S. PUNK. - Label:REDRUM The first volume of Killed by Death appeared around 1988, the brainchild of (according to legend) a New York-based Swedish record collector who gathered up 15 of his all-time favorite new wave-ish rarities and unleashed them on what was then very much a fledgling punk collectors' market.

Concentrating almost wholly on '80s Americana, but with the odd early import to shake things up, the end result is an eclectic but nevertheless exciting package, its contents ranging from the Slugs, featuring former New York Doll Rick Rivets, to suitably macabre odes to L.A.'s Hillside Strangler by both the Hollywood Squares and the Child Molestors; a live Nuns cut, and a brace of anti-social stomps by the Authorities. There's also some neatly gratuitous nastiness from Britain's Users, a 1977-era punk band that sounds positively old fashioned compared to some of the young blades switching around elsewhere. KNUCKLE GIRLS-Vol 3- 14 Territorial Turf War Tunes from the Tomboy Goons in Split-Knee Loons)Label:ANGRY YOUNG WOMEN An extract from the novel 'Bovver Birds Rool' (...continued)
Dawn's preferred nickname was "Demolition Girl." Or, "Demolition Dawn," if needs must. She would never answer to just plain old "Dawn," though. "Dawn" was completely out. She was tired of blokes asking if they could see her "crack," for a start. That was never funny, to Dawn. Or the blokes, after they'd said it and got their comeuppance. And then there was Jane. Her friends called her "Jane Pain," because she liked to inflict it on her enemies in lethal doses. Her enemies called her "Plain Jane," which she wasn't, but she was hardly the Daily Mirror's wartime glamour girl Jane, either. A one-girl war? Yeah, sometimes. Especially if you were one of the chancers attempting to call her "Plain." Or, if you were attempting to cause aggro for her beloved Dawn. And these were The Knuckle Girls. Well, two of them, anyway. The others were many but lesser-spotted, like their Bovver Bird adversaries, unless there was a crisis, which was most weeks. Most days, sometimes. Friday nights were the worst. (To be continued...) PUNK AND DISORDERLY 2:- FURTHER CHARGES-Label:SPITTLE At last! A new vinyl edition of the three legendary 'Punk And Disorderly' compilations, originally released between 1982 and 1983. At the dawn of the eighties the first volume arrived as a fiery statement from the heart of the British punk scene. Back in the day, the glorious early punk energy was still alive and in the meantime transforming through a wave of new bands coming up with fresh ideas and attitudes. Thanks to a great selection of both originators and newcomers, the whole explosive energy that was at the core of punk movement is perfectly captured throughout these three landmark compilations. An incredible roster of bands such as Vice Squad, Blitz, Chaos UK, Anti-Nowhere League, Vibrators, Angelic Upstarts... all original British punk acts except the San Francisco based Dead Kennedys represented on volume 1 with their seminal hit 'Kill The Poor.' This is fierce, loud and raw music caught in the midst of transition between punk rock and its next "hardcore" evolution. All three volumes feature brand new tracklists including bonus tracks not available in the first editions. COMP LP $28 SKU:25292

STEPSON- Lost Tapes (Bluesy hard rock 1974 Ltd ed with insert , liners and photos )-Label:LION/ VINTAGE Including full size insert with detailed liner notes by Doug Sheppard, plus photos, and lyrics Bluesy hard rock band that rose from the ashes of Touch. Their sole album was released on ABC/Dunhill Records in 1974. Despite the fact that the band never toured in support of their amazing album, over the years the word has gotten out about this incredible album and the band enjoys cult success among collectors. Easily one of the best examples of "cock rock" ever put onto wax.• Long sought after unreleased recordings from this hard-nosed raunchy Detroit-style 70s hard rock band whose 1974 debut album on ABC is highly regarded. Memorable tracks featuring vicious growling guitar from Joey Newman, soulful vocals of Jeffs Hawks, along with the non-stop rocking backbone of Bruce Hauser (bass) and Len Fagan (drums). These guys really knew how to ride the pocket and lay down some badass rock ‘n’ roll. LP $17 SKU:15357

STEVE BROWN BAND- Soul Full of Sin (70s killer rarity)-Label:SEELIE COURT Steve brown formed this outfit in 1971, and they quickly developed a tight style of cool but potent jazz rock, characterised by lengthy powerful instrumental breaks and sax, and infectious beats. This LP pieces together what should have been a debut record on Transatlantic from remaining studio tapes and acetate sources. The six tracks are pure killer, opening with ‘Hitman’ which is sung first person from the point of view of an assassin for hire; stone cold cool with a fantastic bass-line and rhythm it conjurs up early seventies nihilistic film and tv imagery. The side ends with a genuine lost anthem in ‘Shine A Light,’ epic and melancholic. The lyrics are fab, and have a worldly wise quality about them. One of the greatest bands no one has heard of, hereby rescued from slipping into the ether, despite once being on the verge of a deal with Transatlantic and garnering a massive live following in their native Newcastle area during the early to mid seventies. A completely pro band, with brilliant songs, and a unique style. In 1973, the band hit a bad patch, burnt out by extensive gigging, they crashed their Transit Tour Van on a motorway, miraculously surviving. LP $30 SKU:24688

STEVENS, MEIC - SEPTEMBER 1965: TONY PIKE SESSIONS ( lost acid folk classic) SAALE!Label:TENTH PLANET Regarded as a national treasure in his native Wales. In 1965 however he was just another Dylan/Donovan folkie. In 1965 he recorded this batch of songs to hawk around the various labels as a finished album. Unfortunately the acetates were lost. Recently rediscovered and including previously unheard songs like "Winter of the clan", "Not for me mister MP" and "It ain't for me to ask the reason why". This is the first ever release of this long lost demo album. 190 Gram, vinyl only pressing including liner notes by Meic and limited to 1000 copies. LP $18 SKU:24291

STING-RAY, BAL -RECORDED LIVE AT BEDLAM FESTIVAL (Sting Rays and X Men) Label:TRASH WAX In March of 2020, 3 of the original 4 members of cult 'trash' band The Sting-Rays, plus 2 original members of The X-Men were tempted to play at the Bedlam Festival in the UK. Although having played with his various combos (Ug & The Cavemen, Earls Of Suave), this was the first time since the mid-'80s that Bal had managed to get the guys together and perform live. Unfortunately, Alec Palao lives in San Francisco and couldn't make it! 300 copies only. LP $22 SKU:25052

STRANG, JOHN-THE MASTERPEACE (private press 1968 folk rock rarity) Label:SEELIE COURT A super rare privately pressed folk rock LP from 1968 is now finally available on a bigger scale! The LP was originally pressed in a super limited run of 25 copies, which nowadays are obviously unaffordable! Sir John Graves, who after his musical career became a leading authority on the psychiatry of drug addiction, recorded this delightful, somewhat Donovanesque LP with two friends (Valentine Lewis Lloyd and Martin Farquharson) in Wales when he was only 17 years old. LP $28 SKU:24155

STRAWBERRY PATH -WHEN THE RAVEN HAS COME TO EARTH (70s Japanese heavy psych blues)Label:ABSINTHE Reissue on LP of debut album by Japanese HEAVY PSYCHEDELIC blues rock band from the early '70s. SUGAR BEAR -ST (1972 super rare rural rock/swamp psych)Label:VOID A charming chunk of super rare rural rock/swamp psych from the Sunshine state, c. 1972 — released as a private pressing on the Gaff label and later bootlegged by the execrable Radioactive outfit. Sugar Bear were a four-piece from Florida featuring guitarist John McLaughlin — no, not that one (Mahavishnu John McLaughlin), another one! — named after the hip American 1970s singing and guitar playing cartoon character. The album is typically described as a blend of rural rock, and country rock. But hey, the term ''rural rock'' covers quite a lot, from swampy rock ’n' roll to country rock in the style of The Outlaws or Pure Prairie League. In this instance, Sugar Bear produced an album of high originality, defying categorization. This is a record of real depth and intelligence, covering many styles, and with some psychedelic touches to note. There is some slow and some fast material (a blend that is far from unusual), with a few Grateful Dead moves too. Still not sure? Some people say when describing this album to “think of a cross line between Jefferson Airplane and the Byrds, with drops of Santana.” Legitimate 450x copy pressing on black vinyl, with insert. LP $22 SKU:25173

SURFBEAT CLUB --SHAKEDOWN AND MORE HIPSHAKIN' BRONCO BEATS- LTD ED of 300 PURPLE-Label:SELF RELEASE 'Shakedown And More Hipshakin' Bronco Beats' seemed to suddenly appear out of nowhere at the end of 2021. Reverberating surf guitars, roaring organ tones and a firmly swinging beat with clear influences from ska, but especially obscure soundtracks. The Surfbeat Club, a Belgian-Dutch band, embraces that retro sci-fi vibe. Sometimes it sounds very poppy and loungy, at other times very exotic or punky. For fans of Les Robots, Terror Twist, Los Banditos, Arno De Cea, Messer Chups or Man...Or Astroman?. Very limited hand-numbered editon of 300 copies on transparent magenta coloured vinyl. LP $24 SKU:25042

SWAMPWATER- ST (1971 Byrds style sealed original, with drill hole)Label:RCA A great swamp-pop/country rock release from 1971 by this group with ties to The Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers and Linda Ronstadt — they were her pre-Eagles, post-Stone Poneys band — housed in an elaborate fold-out & die-cut sleeve and notes from Arlo Guthrie. Breathtaking harmonies that, at times, approach The Louvin Brothers, and superlative songcraft. I've never been to the bayou, but I can't imagine getting closer than 'Ol' Papa Joe.’ 'Mama Lou,' meanwhile, sounds like a cajun-style inspiration for Bob Seger's ‘Main Street.' The album ends with a ferocious fiddle stomp that gives way to a few seconds of 'The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down.' The vocalist ends the album saying "that's all folks". It's a line that proved sadly prophetic, as it marked the end of the band for a decade and a half. It's good enough to make even the most cynical city-slicker feel at home on the front-porch.

"Theirs was a brand of well-sung Cajun rock, straight out of the Louisiana bayou (except for the harmonies, which would've done credit to the Byrds). They had no prior equivalent in rock music, and the group's singing was considered so unusual that they got a fair amount of session work just singing backup to other acts, including Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez, Country Joe McDonald, and Odetta. It was Guthrie who finally lured them away from Ronstadt in 1971. Swampwater did a second self-titled album for RCA with Herb Pedersen added on guitar and vocals, and then went their separate ways. While the Eagles, Firefall, and other country-rock groups made regular runs up the charts and embedded themselves in the popular consciousness, Swampwater was largely forgotten except in Los Angeles and by dedicated early Ronstadt fans. After the breakup, Gib Gilbeau joined the Burrito Brothers, and John Beland performed on a number of session dates before going solo.” —AllMusic LP $14 SKU:25537

SWEET SLAG -Tracking With Close-Ups (1969 heavy dark psych cult rarity )-Label:ACME/LION •First official reissue of this superb album. •Comes with printed insert containing archive band photos, many previously unseen. •Taken from the original master analogue tapes. Formed in 1969, this 4-piece UK outfit went on to record one ultra collectable album in 1971 for President Records. Originally the album was going to be titled "guerilla jazz rock" but came instead to be renamed "Tracking With Close-Ups," which is a good thing, as this is not a jazz rock album! The band toured extensively, supporting the likes of Deep Purple, Stray, Nucleus, Graham Bond, Black Cat Bones and Third Ear Band. Over the years the Sweet Slag album has built a cult reputation with collectors. The album is certainly different from many released at that time—it has a unique heavy dark psychedelic aspect running through the album; it almost borders on proto-metal on several tracks, as well as having some darker progressive elements and Beefheart and Zappa moments, making it a thoroughly unique and classic album. Original copies of "Tracking with Close-Ups" are very scarce nowadays... which is fine, as for the first time here is the first official reissue of this superb album, taken from the original master analogue tapes. The real deal early 1970's UK underground! Import edition limited to 250x copies LP $24 SKU:21250

"With a little help from his friends, T-Model Ford has once again walked into the studio and bettered himself." – Alan Brown / POPMATTERS

"A far more interesting recording because of its "impurities" -- paradoxically, making it a far more "authentic" blues record because it is linked to multiple historic traditions simultaneously. It’s exponentially more enjoyable and exciting as blues than anything coming out of Chicago in the 21st century." – Thom Jurek / ALL MUSIC LP $25 SKU:24615

T MODEL FORD- Taledragger (Muddy Waters style blues)Label:ALIVE AllMusic Review by James Allen

“ On The Ladies Man, T-Model Ford comes off more than ever as a living testament to the sustaining power of the blues” Playing tunes associated with Muddy Waters ("Two Trains") and Muddy's right-hand man Little Walter ("My Babe"), and revisiting quirky original tunes he has recorded in the past like opening cut "Chicken Head Man," Ford brings to bear his rough-and-ready vocal style and forceful acoustic fingerpicking with an intensity that suggests a performer a good few decades younger."
