NEW ARRIVALS

CLEARING- S/T (70s hippie acid)Label:RIVERMAN MUSIC (KOREA) DIGIPACK This is the first-ever CD reissue of the second, better-known 1973 album from this pastoral Boston-area hippie trio, now remastered in a 24-bit remaster. Intimate, low-key hippie tunes with several things going for it. Warm male and female vocals create an appealing blend supported by acoustic guitar, piano, tablas and flute. Far from being trad, a playful and occasionally improvised feel dominates with nocturnal Eastern flourishes for that special late-night acid feel. When Clearing stick to the femme-vox hippie picnic sounds, the sound is quite appealing. Comes in a handsome paper sleeve that precisely reproduces the original LP sleeve in miniature form. Includes detailed liner notes written by one of the original band members. CD $14 SKU:11099

DUNLAVY -King Of All He Surveys(stoned neo psych)-Label:FLEECE Dunlavy's way around neo-psychedelic zoned and stoned approaches continues well enough with King of All He Surveys, with main man Scott Grimm keeping an eye and ear out for finding mystery and liquid, flowing songs at both high and low volumes. Dunlavy's general subtlety is actually perhaps its best feature, balancing out the stripped-down spirit of tribal acid folk with plenty of electricity while not always cranking the amps or the pedals. When the band does decide to cut loose -- "Mercury" is a great example, with weird, slowed vocals that Jimi Hendrix would be proud of, as is "Very Little" -- there's still a lot of space in the arrangement, with flanged guitars subservient to clipped riffs. The initial mogadon trudge pace of "Hazy" makes Mountain's "Mississippi Queen" sounds like Motörhead, but if anything's the lead instrument, it's the backward-masked then reversed vocals, breathed out like a cold wind from the Arctic. "Scott Dewey" isn't all that far off in feel, with the extra touch of muffled, barely audible voices in what sounds like a phone conversation kicking everything off. Meanwhile, the easygoing flow of songs like "Unstable," the excellent opener, and the kicky and appropriately entitled "Sassy!" keep things from dourness (as does the great photo of the glowing-eye dog). No less than three separate songs are called "Captain Space" -- all pretty much consist of brief interludes, but they add further to the quiet, reflective side of the band, brief semi-acoustic jams that suit the disc's flow. An odd and fun touch: Calling one song "Big Finish" and then putting it nowhere near the end of the album (shades of Big Black's "Bombastic Intro" in reverse CD $12 SKU:20440

EUBANK,JEFF - A Street Called Straight(1983 Private press gem)-Label:RIVERMAN (Korea) Originally released in 1983, this is Jeff Eubank's sole Kansas City private-press gem, originally produced only in an edition of 500 copies. Jeff Eubank is not a boner. A cursory read of the lyrics, printed in full in the space surrounding Mr. Eubank on the back cover artwork, more or less confirms this. They are literate and poetic without giving the reader anything to laugh at. At this point, any smart record digger will pull this particular title. A cursory needle drop may or may not reveal the album's potential. Depending on where the needle lands, it may sound like Crosby, Stills and Nash, or it may sound like the music we have come to know as "yacht rock," the smooth-sailing sounds of Christopher Cross, Hall & Oates, The Doobie Brothers, or Kenny Loggins. There's even a bit of the old, mellow, West Coast A.M.-rock canyon sound in there as well, with complex harmonies and a general hazy, lazy vibe. The truth behind this music's distinct sound is somewhere in between all this. There is an undeniably dated aspect to this music, an over-emphasis or over-reliance on being easy-going, but at the same time, it's wonderfully next to impossible to exactly pinpoint when or where this music was made. Like an '80s Tim Buckley on downers, Eubank's voice is smooth as silk, and there is no attack in his delivery; instead, his voice coasts along in a gentle, affable flow. But don't be so easily assuaged, when you get this album home and listen more closely, the conflict and rough edges of this music begins to reveal itself. Regarding the title, the artist himself explains it this way" "('rise and go to a street called straight' from Acts 9:10-19) finds Ananias being directed to risk harm and perhaps his life to help a man he knows to be dangerous. The implication of the fact that the name of the street was (and is) Straight (like straight and narrow) shouldn't be lost on someone who is reading carefully. As this relates to the lyrics of the song, we all have had to, at some time (or many times), move on in courage and leave the past behind (good or bad). In the case of these lyrics, there is hope: 'there is an end to this endless night... after all.'" Astral, unplaceable music that will fill your head-space, highly recommended for fans of Bobb Trimble, Robert Lester Folsom, and other purveyors of lost late '70s/early '80s music CD $14 SKU:20454

GREENSLADE-Shades of Green 1972 - 1975 OBSCURE PROG) Label:Earotic Music International From Progarchives.com: "Shades of Green" is a compilation featuring selections from the band's first three albums, their "classic" period. As the band only recorded approximately 160 minutes of music during this period, a double CD may have seen all four albums represented in their entirety, so obviously some serious culling was required from this very under-rated band… All in all a pretty good selection though, as the bands output was consistently very good (especially the first three albums) A good start for those that are unfamiliar with the band. CD $15 SKU:20446

HEIRS OF FORTUNE-Circus of Mirth (GREAT POWERPOP- FREE! -Label:COUNTERFEIT What the reviewers say about Circus Of Mirth;Terry Carolan and Robert Woodrich, formerly of Just Boys and New Movies, along with Ralph Smith and Robert Watkins, formerly of Amnesia, have united as Heirs Of Fortune to create this mainstream pop-rock album. LIGHTNIN' HOPKINS & BILLY BIZOR -Wake Up the Dead (60s Electrified Texas blues -DBL Label:CICADELIC Many have said that Lightnin' Hopkins woke up The Dead when he played San Francisco in the 1960's. So it is appropriate that his song 'Wake Up The Dead' is the centerpiece of this two and a half hour journey into the world of electrified Texas blues. Accompanying Lightnin' on this journey is his long time harmonica player, Billy Bizor. While Lightnin' had a prolific recording career—and a massive reputation as a result of some key stunning sessions—Bizor's stature is relatively obscure due to a lack of solo recordings released during his lifetime. Fortunately, "Wake Up The Dead" seeks to rectify that situation by including the complete June 17, 1968 session with Lightnin' and Bizor, plus all of Bizors' 1969 solo recordings. An added bonus is the remainder of of the April 11,1969 session that is represented on the Lightnin' Hopkin's "Shootin Fire" companion release (CICD-41169). The highlight of the session has to be the nine minutes of outtakes of the colossal Hopkins original, 'Mojo Hand". Never before have the complete tapes from these sessions been released. All tracks are taken from the original three and four track masters to accentuate the magical chemistry between Lightnin' and Bizor. CD $14 SKU:20439

MANAL-El Leon (early Argentine rock 1970)Label:SONY/BMG (Argentina) Manal was an early Argentine rock group. Together with Almendra and Los Gatos, they are perceived as the founders of Argentine rock. The band members were Claudio Gabis, Alejandro Medina and Javier Martínez. Manal was the first act to sign to Mandioca, the pioneer label created by producers Jorge Álvarez and Pedro Pujó. First came a string of great singles, and then the first Manal album (1970). The lyrics are thick with references to the streets; the music is imaginative blues rock with sinuous guitar lines. The most remarkable moments are ‘Jugo de Tomate’ (Manal's most popular song), ‘Avenida Rivadavia’ (about the longest avenue in Buenos Aires), ‘Una casa con diez pinos,’ ‘Informe de un día’, and ‘Avellaneda blues’ (a tango-blues about the suburbs). The trio sounds great and Gabis’ performance is brilliant. The second LP, “El León” (RCA Vik LZ 1176, 1971), is a more rock oriented LP, but still well within the basic sound outlined on the first album. It features great songs like ‘Blues de la amenaza nocturna,’ ‘Paula,’ and ‘Si no hablo de mí.’ Shortly after it was released Manal split. Medina and Gabis went on to join La Pesada, and record albums with (and for) Billy Bond, Kubero Diaz, as well as under their own names. These limited edition CDs come in a nice digipacks. NEWS -Hot Off The Press(unique '70s pop obscurity-Label:RIVERMAN (Korea) A unique '70s pop obscurity. The lead instrument is a pedal steel guitar, played with more imagination than anywhere other than the Misunderstood's studio recordings, often with some nice, fuzzy distortion. It rarely sounds "country." The songs are strong pop/rock, with Beach Boys-style harmony vocals on the softer songs, and tougher (but still melodic) singing on the rockers. Other than the opening "song" (three minutes of a guy fiddling with a radio dial), everything here is memorable, and no two songs sound alike. Highlights include the powerful "Loser," with a stunning steel guitar solo, and the long album-closer "New York City," but this is consistent enough that any given listener could feel equally strong about any two others. This is exactly the kind of band a daring major label executive would have struck gold with in the '60s, but nobody would dare to touch in the '70s. The endless streams of slide on these songs makes you almost woozy, but in that pleasant, A.M. radio, hot car/hot summer day, off-kilter '70s way. Surprisingly groovy. Includes two previously unreleased bonus tracks. CD $14 SKU:20455

PETER COOK + DUDLEY MOORE -Bedazzled Soundtrack 1967-Label:ACME Dudley Moore's score to the 1968 cult classic Bedazzled is a delightful jazz romp. Moore composed, arranged, and produced the music for his trio: Moore on piano, Pete McGurk on bass, and Chris Karan on drums. Moore keeps things light and airy, and also consistently cool, as he and his jazz cronies jam with precision. His fingers twinkle across the piano, portraying the comedy, tension, and emotion of the onscreen action to a tee. Saxophones, flutes, violins, and assorted horns chime in to express sadness or to take the music down truly whimsical side avenues. The three vocal songs are glorious, and it helps that they underscore the film's highlights. The pleasant choir musings of "The Leaping Nuns' Chorus" immediately brings to mind those religious figures on trampolines. Moore's pitch-perfect vocals on "Love Me" add a witty sneer to the song's bombastic undercurrent. It's impossible not to smile when he sings, "I'm on my knees/Won't you please come and love me." Peter Cook's droll, stoic voice on "Bedazzled" would be the score's standout feature if his longtime partner, Moore, wasn't such an accomplished pianist and such an intelligent jazz arranger. Who can resist Cook's dismissals of, "I don't love you, leave me alone/I'm self-contained/You fill me with inertia," as Moore implores backing vocalists to drown him in adoration? The "Main Title"'s melody makes appearances throughout the soundtrack, and Moore repeatedly twists and turns it into something new and fascinating. Filled with energy, sparklingly beautiful jazz passages, and an expert balance of classical motifs and hilarious vocals, Bedazzled is a timeless reminder of Dudley Moore's genius.CD $15 SKU:20452

RODD , KEITH - Saucers in the Sky (obscure 70s pop genius) - Label:ROARATORIO It would be inaccurate to call this a collection of forgotten pop classics. Forgotten implies that they were known in the first place. "Beyond the weird lyrics, many of the songs on Saucers In The Sky are just wonderful pop songs, with great melodies and strange, unexpected chord progressions... whereas most song-poems sound like the rush jobs they usually were, Keith's are surprisingly detailed, with weird production ideas, verses and choruses that actually make sense together, and good performances...a virtuosic songwriter. - Charlie Wilmoth, CD $10 SKU:14222

STORM-ST (1974 crown jewel of Spanish hard rockLabel:WAH WAH SPAIN Their debut album, originally released on BASF in 1974, is one of the Crown jewels of Spanish hard rock, and changes hands for a small fortune among collectors all over the world. This LP really rocks. Its high energy hard rock follows the line marked by the big organ outfits of the era: Deep Purple, Atomic Rooster, Bram Stoker, Megaton, a.o. It has also a deep classic prog sound root, which reaches the top on 'Un Señor Llamado Fernández De Córdoba'. Now it gets the deserved well-done CD treatment at last, with great remastered sound, nice booklet AND YES!!!! up to 30 minutes of images with a concert of the group and an interview, all circa 1974-1975!!!! An incredible document available for the first time, don’t miss this CD $16 SKU:20444

VAINICA DOBLE -ST (Super rare Spanish psych 1971)Label:WAH WAH Probably the rarest and most sought-after LP in the Spanish collector's market, the first album by Gloria Van Aerssen & Carmen Santonja is at last reissued as it deserves. On the twelve songs they wrote for their debut album, originally released on Ópalo in 1971, Vainica Doble blended folk, soft rock, pop and a dose of psychedelia. The fantastic, colorful cover was designed by Ivan Zulueta, artist and film director (he was the mastermind behind the cult movies 1, 2, 3... Al escondite inglés! and Arrebato), and is reproduced here in all its glory, along with extensive liner notes by Àngel Maeztu. Including 2 non-LP single tracks. All their Ópalo recordings collected in a fantastic edition. Made, as always, with love and devotion by the Wah Wah team.” CD $16 SKU:20445

VAVOURA BAND -Ethnic: Soundtracks For Films (heavy stoned Pink Floyd style)Label:IKAROS MUSIC (Greece) An altogether different sort of disc from the Vavoura Band material previously issued by Ikaros—and wow! what a great disc! ethnic flavored instrumentals replete with exotic percussion, swirling guitar lines, and a truly heavy stoned atmosphere reminiscent of early Popol Vuh (if anything), or in some cases early Pink Floyd (when the rest of the band kick in); just as a random sample, the fifth track starts out with a primal yell that will curl your hair, then ventures into abstract heavy progressive territory; the real star here is the exquisite guitar playing of Johnny Vavouras, no matter what the style—and all styles played here certainly validate the claim of being “Ethnic” as the cover of the package states in bold letters; last copies of a limited edition that come in a miniature metal film can—not the only idiosyncratic element to this truly excellent disc. CD $14 SKU:20456

WILLIAM PENN AND HIS PALS -ST(1966 garage) Label:BEATRECORDS (USA) The ultimate garage rock album, recorded in 1966 by one of the ultimate garage rock groups. William Penn V (and/or William Penn and His Pals) are famous for the single ‘Swami.’ Here are all the songs ever recorded by this group. “Acid-punk outfit William Penn and His Pals formed at the College of San Mateo in late 1964; originally dubbed the DiscCounts, the founding lineup comprised singer Neil Holtmann, guitarist Mike Dunn, bassist Steve Sweet and drummer Ron Cox. Keyboardist Dave Lovell signed on in early 1965, and a few months later the group significantly overhauled its lineup and look--adopting the moniker William Penn and His Pals, the band (now Holtmann, Cox, Lovell, guitarist Mike Shapiro and bassist Steve Leidenthal) adopted Revolutionary War-era stage garb that included ruffled shirts and tri-cornered hats. The addition of former Nomads guitarist Jack Shelton swelled the roster to a six-piece, and for a short time, the lineup also included a second drummer, Mickey Hart, who would later sign on with the Grateful Dead. In early 1966 keyboardist Gregg Rolie replaced Lovell—in time he assumed the lion's share of vocal duties as well, resulting in Holtmann's dismissal from the group. William Penn and His Pals were a regular presence on the Bay Area live scene, opening for the Jefferson Airplane, Paul Revere and the Raiders and Them; in 1966, they cut their lone single ‘Swami’ (credited to the William Penn Fyve), later anointed an underground classic thanks to its inclusion on the third Pebbles collection. A deal with the Fantasy label was pending, but in 1967 the group dissolved, with Rolie subsequently joining Santana.” ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide CD $12 SKU:20451

Previously released songs included are: ‘Niño color cariño’ by Alma y Vida (their first single); ‘No es por falta de suerte’ by Vox Dei (an album track from “Caliente”); and ‘Pasan muchas cosas’ by Brujos (their second single). RODD , KEITH - Black Phoenix Blues (obscure 70s pop genius ) -Ltd ed w download Label:ROARATORIO (USA) A limited edition LP with artwork by Josh Journey-Heinz and liner notes from noted blues guitarist Debbie Davies, one of Keith’s musical and personal compadres from the early 1970s. Download coupon included."
"To call Rodd Keith the king of the song-poems (also known as the “send us your lyrics” quick buck-demo mill) is damning with faint praise: no one else in that shady backwater of the music industry possessed an array of talents as distinctively individual as his. As gifted a singer, composer and arranger as he was, his genius was destined to remain a well-kept secret during his lifetime by virtue of the complete disregard – verging on invisibility – in which song-poem records were held. He was a commercial musician in the most literal sense of the word, but within those confines, he displayed an oddball, personal vision that frequently transcended the work-for-hire nature of his music. This is the third Roaratorio collection of the best of Rodd Keith’s vast output. Dating from 1966 to 1974, the sixteen previously unreissued songs showcase the scope of his work: the should’ve-been-a-hit 'You And I'; the elegant exotica of 'I Love Lovely Chinese Gal'; the history lesson of 'The Explosion Of Holden 22 Mine'; the harrowing psychokiller musings of the title track, 'I’m Proud To Be A Hippie From Mississippi,' the stoner’s answer to Merle Haggard’s 'Okie From Muskogee'; the low-fi 'The Game Of Love' (which, in the tradition of Keith’s infamous 'I’m Just The Other Woman,' prompted the dissatisfied customer to request a more conventional re-take); the disturbingly desperate 'Sing My Death Note,' which was discovered on one of Keith’s private reels; and the unclassifiable wtf?-ness of 'Abidin’ Tuh The Rule.' A limited edition LP with artwork by Josh Journey-Heinz and liner notes from noted blues guitarist Debbie Davies, one of Keith’s musical and personal compadres from the early 1970s. RODD ,KEITH - My Yellow Pipe Dream" (obscure 70s pop genius ) -Ltd ed w download Label:ROARATORIO (USA) Song Poems Wanted” read the ads. The send-us-your-lyrics business was a borderline scam, taking whatever lyrics came their way from would-be songwriters and – for a fee – setting them to music. None of the results ever came close to being a hit. But Rodd Keith, a genius whose prolific output was almost completely confined to the song-poem industry, had a knack for turning sow’s ears into silk purses. The nature of the business required him to work quickly, with no second takes, and his skill at writing and arranging on the fly was not unlike that of a master improviser. When at his best, he put his unique musical stamp on some lucky customer’s submission. "My Pipe Yellow Dream" is the second Roaratorio anthology of the highlights of Rodd Keith’s work. Compiling fifteen previously unreissued songs from 1966 through his death in 1974, "My Pipe Yellow Dream" showcases the full range of his talents. From exquisite mid-60s pop balladry ('Deep Velvet') to blue-eyed soul ('You Don’t Have To Alibi') to folk-rock ('Tired Of Waiting') to gospel testifying ('O Jesus My Savior') to the bizarre-world lounge funk of 'Search Out Your Soul, American', this collection continues the rehabilitation of Rodd Keith’s recorded legacy from thrift-shop throwaway to celebrated cult artist. A limited edition LP in a gorgeous gatefold jacket, with artwork by Josh Journey-Heinz and liner notes from song-poem vocalist Dick Kent. "Rodd Keith owned a broad command of popular and sacred styles, a gift for creating ingenious arrangements, and an expressive singing voice at the service of people who thought that the word “alibi” is a verb and that the phrase “my pipe yellow dream” should be the climax of a chorus... The tension between Rodd’s skills and the rank amateurism of most of his material is just one of the things that makes My Pipe Yellow Dream compelling." - Bill Meyer, Dusted. LP $17 SKU:15620

Hypnotic vocal hooks and a mystical atmosphere mixing acoustic and electric guitars lures you right into this group's unique hard rock sound. COOPER,JOHN & PHILIPPA,-The Cooperville Times (1969 Spooky psych folk)-Label:FRESH Spooky psychedelic folk rock (1969) featuring the unmistakable guitar sounds of Julian Laxton (Freedom’s Children). Unquestionably one of the rarest South African albums ever: folk tinged psychedelia, featuring the whimsical vocals of John & Philipa Cooper with guitar by Julian Laxton, which has been hailed by collectors worldwide as comparable to the legendary Mellow Candle or early Jefferson Airplane. Brother/sister John & Philipa Cooper went to Britain shortly after the album was made, and there the story ends. Even so, this amazing album is considered in the same class as those by Billy Nichols, Duncan Browne and Blossom Toes. Well composed underground songs, folk rock, effects—an album full of ideas and masterfully played... it just has the right feel, with the combination of great songs and a '60s art-vibe. The perfect underground folk-rock album CD $10 SKU:20401

LITTO NEBBIA-Fuera del cielo (1972 ARGENTINE PROG ROCK)Label:Melopea Discos This CD includes all tracks from the first Litto Nebbia LP, "Fuera del Cielo", and three bonus tracks representing the very first recordings of the band done in 1972 and previously unreleased. “This album represents the beginning of the most creative phase of a trio featuring Nebbia (leader of Argentine rock band Los Gatos), together with Jorge González and Néstor Astarita. Here they add music to lyrics culled from the poetry of Mirta Defilpo. A work of definite progressive caliber which continues along the familiar song structured path, although in no way conforming to normal limitations. All tracks feature harmonic arrangements, counterpoints and instrumental sequences that blend with the sung passages. The music is remarkably original, and is probably the most striking example of romanticism in progressive rock. I can't remember any other album from that era, the contents of which are as bright and completely free of dramatics as those of "Fuera del Cielo". It is an amazingly strong effort, which is on par with most of the best albums released in 1975. There is no doubt that the original LP would have an immediate international success if it would've been released somewhere in Europe or the USA or had a proper distribution. CD $12 SKU:20338

LOST SOULS-mid 60s unknown U.S. Brit Invasion/ psych)Label:LION The Lost Souls never released any records, yet the meager recorded evidence that survives indicates that they were one of the finest unknown American groups of the mid-'60s, able to write both catchy British Invasion-type rockers and, in their latter days, experimental psychedelic pieces with unusual tempo changes and song structures. The band were also unusual in their occasional embellishment of the typical period guitar-bass-drums lineup with flute, sax, and mandolin. Although popular in their Cleveland hometown, they broke up in 1968 to attend college. Rhythm guitarist Denny Carleton, who wrote and sang some of their best material, went on to briefly join The Choir, their chief (and more successful) rivals." —Richie Unterberger The music scene in Cleveland in the mid to late 1960’s was ripe with talent: the James Gang with Joe Walsh and Glenn Schwartz, The Choir, Eric Carmen (pre-Raspberries), Glass Harp with Phil Keaggy, the Damnation of Adam Blessing… and the Lost Souls. Of all those bands, only the Lost Souls never released a record. Then again, they were in high school, trying to navigate dress codes and bullies—and playing in front of a couple thousand fans when not suspended. Sure, they lost a battle of the bands at Teen Fair 1968, but it was to the James Gang with Joe Walsh. And somehow it is the Lost Souls who emerge from that time and place with the greatest mystique and some of the most adventurous music, music which few have heard. Lost Souls main songwriter Denny Carleton released a cassette of the band’s original recordings in 1984. It received airplay on hundreds of college and public radio stations in the USA (and around the world), and garnered glowing reviews… and that was it, until now.Not only is this the first time the music of the Lost Souls has been available since that cassette, our Lion Productions edition is the first release for many additional Lost Souls cuts, including alternate versions of key tracks like the insightful ‘Things That Are Important’ and ‘I’m Falling’ (the closest to a hit the band ever had), all taken from the original tapes and carefully mastered. Seven bonus tracks highlight the work of Lost Soul's main songwriter Denny Carleton (one-time member of The Choir, and more surprisingly, punk legends the Pagans); selections by The Choir, Moses, Milk and Carleton, many in all possible low-fi glory, recorded on various 4-Track devices, ranging from power-pop to grimy garage.•Whopping 32-page booklet has the full story of the band and info on the recordings by Carlton
•Includes a multitude of unseen photos from his personal archive
•Carefully remastered from the original tapes (+ the occasional post-Lost Souls 45 single)
•”One of the great lost groups of the 60's.” —Option Magazine CD $14 SKU:20365

MACKAY,DUNCAN- Chimera (70s prog w bonus track)Label:FRESH first time reissue of this 1974 debut album by ex Cockney Rebell/10CC keyboard player (he also played with Kate Bush and Camel), Duncan Mackay. It’s an epic prog rock album in the vein of Rick Wakeman, ELP and Patrick Moraz and is highly recommended for keyboard driven prog rock fans. Remember those heady days of the early 70’s, when a trio of keyboard wizards—Keith Emerson (ELP), Rick Wakeman (Yes) and Jon Lord (Deep Purple)—were winning all the polls and dominating the album sales? Duncan Mackay's “Chimera,” recorded in 1973/4 and forever forgotten by all but the most devout, is a brilliant slice of 70s progressive keyboard-based rock. All three of the wizards mentioned above are obvious influences, but McKay clearly stamps his own sound onto this three-track album. (only three tracks? well this was 1974, the era of 'Tales From Topographic Oceans' by Yes). This reissue includes a bonus track, to make it an even four. CD $16 SKU:20405

MACKAY,DUNCAN-- Score (70s prog w bonus track)Label:FRESH Rock keyboard genius Duncan Mackay hooks up with heavyweight players like John Wetton (King Crimson, Asia), Steve Harley (Cockney Rebel) and the London Symphony Orchestra on his second album "Score". Released in 1977, it marks a departure from the all-instrumental direction of his debut "Chimera" to a more traditionally structured rock album without losing his prog rock virtuosity. Highlighted by soaring vocals, stellar playing and sweeping epic songs, "Score" is a welcome addition to Duncan's musical legacy." CD $16 SKU:20411

PLASTICLAND- Mink Dress and Other Cats (post punk psych) SAALE - Label:TIMOTHY'S BRAIN Record Collector magazine in England rightly calls this "a superb compilation of one of the true pioneers of post-punk psychedlia:—and it's true; an amazing collection of ultra-rare early singles from a truly under-rated band CD $10 SKU:5966

SEOMPI-GUNS IN THE SKIES -(the Black Sabbath of Texas, psych rock) Label:CICADELIC RECORDS (USA) “While releasing only three singles in the early 1970's, Seompi's mystique has continued to grow through the ensuing decades. Three posthumous releases issued in the late 1990's only added to Seompi's aura—even though two were off speed and the third has been long out of print. This was the status quo for the past couple of decades until now with the release of "Guns In The Skies". Starting off with the hard rocker "AWOL" and then spacing out with the fourteen minute unreleased opus titled "Synergy Squares", Seompi takes you on a trip back to 1971 when Austin, Texas was the stomping ground for their brand of Psychedelic Space Rock. SHAINS, LOS - El Ritmo de Los Shain's digipack (60s Peruvian garage )- Label:REPSYCHLED First time on CD! In the middle of 1964, a group of adolescent boys came together to make music, without realizing that they were at the starting point of the history of one of the most important rock bands rock in Peru: Los Shain’s. The band’s debut album, “El Ritmo de Los Shain’s,” was originally recorded in Peru in 1966; this fine 14-track collection includes the whole debut album, which sports Spanish versions of Nova’s ‘The Crusher’ and the Animals’ ‘We Got to Get Out of This Place’, plus a couple of original tunes, and some great instrumental tracks too. Their music is chock full of wild sounds, good screams, fast guitar—in other words, great garage rock tunes, with Farfisa keyboards and loud drums. This disc features sound taken from the original master tape reels, remastered using an analogue tube amplification system; this has made it possible to obtain superior sound quality without losing any of the texture of the original recordings. Amazing digipack has insert with twenty-five unseen pictures, and a great biography told by their guitar player and founder, Enrique Ego Aguirre. Includes as bonus a never-before seen homemade footage of the band from early 1966. Band members were key components of later Peruvian bands like The (St. Thomas) Pepper Smelter, Gerardo Manuel & El Humo, PAX, Los Drag’s, Los Nuevos Shain’s, Kabul and others. CD $14 SKU:8711

TELEGRAPH AVENUE - ST (Peruvian 70s psych rock) -Label:RE-PSYCHLED Telegraph Avenue’s debut album appeared on the market in Peru, and became the best selling rock record of the year. The time was right for Latin rock with psychedelic touches (a fact evident all over the Americas), and Telegraph Avenue delivered: guitars saturate the amplifiers, using natural distortion and feedbacks, with Latin bass lines, powerful drums and Latin flavored percussions filling all songs with the uniqueness of their sound. Their songs sometimes sound like Grand Funk’s early records, but others have vocal melodies more akin to a West Coast psych style. Now, 35-years later, Repsychled Records has the pleasure to present the definitive reissue of this album; this reissue is the first done using the original master tapes, and was remastered with tube amplifiers; it includes the original artwork in a gatefold mini-LP format, a booklet with unseen photos and souvenirs from the band’s concerts, an extra insert with band biography, and an unreleased song. Limited mini cardboard sleeve edition CD $15 SKU:20201

WILD YOUTH--A Leopard Never Changes Her Spots-(South Africa’s legendary original 70s punks) Label:FRESH : "Released for the first time on CD is the long awaited retrospective of South Africa’s legendary original punk band, Wild Youth. This massive 23 track set includes all of Wild Youth’s late 70`s seminal singles, live and demo tracks plus several songs from the band’s alter ego outfit, The Gay Marines. Wild Youth are prominently featured in the film documentary Punk in Afrika, currently showing in key US and European film festivals." “Well it all started out of boredom, two guys Mark Dyson and I bored out of our skulls. We used to spend hours in his lounge listening to The Rolling Stones ‘Hot Rocks’ and Black Sabbath ‘We Sold Our Souls for Rock And Roll.’ Our friend Peter Kunst was also around but less so as he was more successful with the girls than we were. Boredom and loads of time is very good for creating rock and roll. As they say the Devil makes work for idle hands. My first exposure to Punk came in 1971 when I picked up The Stooges ‘Fun House’ LP… (it) was a mind blowing album, so hard and powerful and sleazy in feel and though I didn’t know it at the time funky and jazzy as well. The next and probably most important step in my quest for Punk was Iggy and the Stooges ‘Raw Power’ LP. David Bowie had done such a wacked out production that beats the latter day Iggy grunge remix heads down. The lead guitar was so loud in proportion to the rest of the music. It has been critically panned as a terribly production but to me it sounded so out of control and amazing. The opening track ‘Search and Destroy’ must be one of the most incendiary tracks ever released and was to become a blue print for much of my music later on.” CD $15 SKU:20409

BLACKOUT - ST (groovy 60s garage)-Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (Korea) At last a reissue of a great album that features some of the cheesiest organ sounds (meant in a good way) carved into wax in the 1960’s; groovy and bizarre Hammond runs are present and accounted for, residing happily with the smart songs, the fine guitar playing, and the gravelly vocals of the band’s singers (male and female), on the only album this Polish band ever saw released, just before they changed their name (to Breakout), and their sound (to progressive rock); they started as a beat band, albeit one addicted to the dark side of beat as demonstrated to them in person by Eric Burdon & the Animals; they developed their own weird sound, which was dubbed “Big Beat” by someone clever—a term that still exists in the former Eastern Bloc to describe this sort of offbeat (so to speak), wigged-out and intense home grown music; after some radio success, Blackout apparently recorded a slew of singles, some of which appear here as bonus tracks; twenty songs in all, mostly written by underground novelist and poet Bogdan Loebl, plus liner notes that include an interview with band-leader Tadeusz Nalepa as well as an overview of the recording industry in Poland in the 1960’s. It’s not every day you get historical background and interesting music in the same package! CD $12 SKU:18953

CIPOLLINA,JOHN - Raven (Quicksilver Messenger Service 1976)-Label:ACADIA The legendary guitarist from Quicksilver Messenger Service recorded this album in 1976, shortly after returning from a UK tour with Welsh band Man. The great thing about John Cipollina is his guitar playing. But the other great thing was his willingness to play rock and roll. He was not concerned about his status as a star but clearly was a musician who liked the idiom and liked to perform and liked to do so with other kindred spirits. Sharing his wealth of talent is the mark of a special man, of a man with humility and a generous spirit and these attributes are clearly in evidence in these performances. “Raven” is described as Cippolina's version of a big band and the album is a testament to that idea. There is a tightness in the performances which shows the familiarity of the material and sense of sharing. It is clear too that the band members shared a closeness which is more than friendliness, a sort of spirituality which is very special. An enjoyable album as a historical record, as an example of John Cipollina’s playing, as a part of the Bay Area musical legacy, and as the work of a rock 'n 'roll band. Extensive notes on the story of “Raven” and the trials and tribulations of bringing it to fruition. All songs have been remastered from the original tapes. CD $10 SKU:18989

COFRADIA DE LA FLOR SOLAR- ST (1971 S American psych)-Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (Korea) Named after a student artistic community 50 km south of Buenos Aires, 'The Brotherhood Of The Solar Flower' was originally formed in 1968 by three musically inclined participants. After a compilation appearance and RCA/Vik 7" their only LP, produced by Billy Bond, was finally released in 1971 on the Microfon label. With fourth member Kubero Diaz on lead guitar, the group created a slightly-stoned mix of acoustic/electric fuzz guitars and phased vocals, and the album went on to become one of the most highly-regarded Argentinian rock LP's, alongside releases by Almendra, Vox Dei, etc.; a catchy rock record with psychedelic flavor that has some great moments, as any album combining the talents of Kubero Diaz and the great Billy Bond! CD $10 SKU:820

COLOURS- S/T (60s psych Pop )- Label:World Psychedelia A reissue of the 1968 self-titled album from this psychedelic pop combo, whose liner notes claim the band "have the crystalline sharpness of the Beatles before they turned acid." Orchestrations, disturbing time and key changes, and sitar drone are all added to the mix. Includes the standouts "Bad Day At Black Rock Baby," the commune-song "Brother Lou's Love Colony"--later covered by Moon--and the eerie "Cataleptic." CD $10 SKU:3258

DOUGLAS FIR -HARD HEART SINGIN (Classic 70s rock)Label:GEAR FAB Their classic 1970 LP, recorded in the great Pacific Northwest State of Portland, Oregon. EDIP AKBAYRAM NEDIR rare 70’s Turkish hashish psych! Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (Korea) A very different take on the Anatolian rock sound (tracks date from 1975-76), with strange keyboard washes leading to arrangements that feature wah-wah fuzz guitar and (I think) wah-wah saz, Akbayram's powerful swirling vocals, all backed by funked-up drums; many of these tracks have a tough hashish rock sound that somehow meshes well with folk instruments, and/or the odd addition of Jethro Tull-esque flute; keyboards and arrangements from "genius" Murat Ses (Mogollar) supplement the Dostlar line-up; probably the most important non-Erkin Koray, 3 Hur El, or Mogollar album from Turkey; among the best that Turkey produced in the seventies—and that's saying something; lyrics and photos in 12-page booklet. CD $10 SKU:18949

FLAT EARTH SOCIETY - Waleeco” + The LOST “Space Kids ( 68 Boston garage ) - Label:ARF ARF Patrick the Lama said in Acid Archives, “Obscure and impressive melodic basement garage/psych excursion with a lo-fi atmosphere that would have most purveyors flip out, hits the Ampex two-track echo & tinny drum sound dead on. GONZALEZ, WALLY -Tunog Pinoy (heavy acid blues psych)Label:VICOR ENTERTAINMENT (Philippines) Just listening to the soaring solos of the third track, ‘Pinag-isa’, makes us think how much this sounds like Pink Floyd circa “Dark Side of the Moon”—atmospheric, with breathy vocals, yet thick with that mid-70’s heavy energy at the same time; then you get to ‘Rock & Roll Mama’, and it’s stinging guitar leads and crunching rhythm section all the way; Gonzalez clearly was not a one trick (heavy acid blues rock) pony, which explains why this album has always been held in such high regard among those who had a chance to hear it. CD $10 SKU:18971

GROWING CONCERN, THE- ST (6os West Coast psych pop) - Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA "Although virtually nothing is known of Growing Concern, their only album (Mainstream, 1969) is an enjoyable piece of West Coast psychedelic pop. The opening track 'Hard, Hard Year' sets the tone for the album: it opens with melodic guitar work, which is joined first by bass, then by excellent keyboards; it also features beautiful female vocal harmonies from group members Bonnie MacDonald and Mary Garstki. 'Edge Of Time' features excellent lead guitar work, as does 'Tomorrow Has Been Cancelled'; 'A Boy I Once Knew Well' is a folky lament, which again features fine vocal harmonies, keyboards, and guitar work. Overall, quite a good blend of folk rock, pop, and psychedelia. The album is brilliantly recorded, and is of a consistently high musical quality. The band surely deserved a better fate than the obscurity to which they were consigned by the bizarre business practices of the Mainstream label." CD $10 SKU:7381

IL BALLETTO DI BRONZO - Serio 2222 - W 12 PAGE BOOKLET ( Raw-edged heavy rock JIMMY PAGE STYLE ) -Label:LION Raw-edged heavy rock, fronted by Lino Ajello's powerful electric guitars, channeling the dark, jagged energy of Jimmy Page, Adrian Gurvitz, and Jeff Beck. Il Balletto di Bronzo absorbed their influences (Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Yardbirds), but moved from there into an inspired, hard-edged musical space; the band's overwhelming power and great melodies make them irresistible. ‘Un posto’ and ‘Neve Calda’ are centered around simple but effective guitar riffs. ‘Eh eh ah ah’ starts like a nice mellow ballad, but gets into a hard blues rock groove. On side two, there's the seven-minute mammoth heavy grind of ‘Incantesimo’ and the colossal ‘Missione Sirio 2222,’ almost ten minutes of droning acid rock with whirling guitars and heavy pounding drums, sandwiched between an acoustic intro and outro. No wonder Nurse With Wound cited Il Balletto di Bronzo as an influence. Digipack comes with 12-page color booklet discussing Il Balletto Di Bronzo's strange legacy. CD $14 SKU:16072

QUAD - ST (Sun Dial psych ) Label:LION "Comparable to the work of close peer Sonic Boom in Spectrum and EAR, Quad stretch out and dive deep over three long tracks... Very different from Sun Dial's fuzz-heavy psych rock, the meditative, ind-altering nature of 'Temple,' Projection,' and the side-long 'Revisitation Mantra' come closer to Ramon's work with astral explorers Coil, while also sounding distinctly ahead of their time." —Shindig! Magazine (latest issue, review of Sulatron LP edition)The material recorded by Sun Dial approximately between 1990-1997 under their alter-ego QUAD has been among the most elusive prizes for fans of psychedelia, as it was issued many moons ago as an extremely limited LP in a clear plastic sleeve. It is an album certainly great enough to deserve such avid pursuit by fans of all sorts of psychedelia—mesmerizing, drugged-out and trippy at all times, with sitar and guitar floating in and out and up and down in the mix over some decidedly funky grooves. If there was ever music for dj’s to sample, and yet also for heads to enjoy at home, this is it! Quad started out as a Gary Ramon solo project, on which he worked with collaborators (including "Other Way Out" engineer Lee Allen) to try to develop a library of recordings devoted to electronic cosmic music. The main inspiration was the work of great electronic artists (who were still quite obscure in those days), such as Silver Apples, Tony Conrad, Terry Riley, Pierre Henry, Roland Kovac and improvisational bands including Amon Duul, Siloah—and of course Kraftwerk, Ash Ra Tempel and German bands on the Cosmic Courier, Ohr and Brain labels. RALLIZES DENUDES, LES -Hadaka No Rallizes) “yodo-go-a-go-go-Label:10th AVENUE FREEZE OUT Legendary Japanese rock outfit Les Rallizes Denudes were formed in 1967 and incredibly for a group that had only one official release (Oz Days Live, a double vinyl compilation release in 1973), played their last gig almost 30 years later in October 1996. The bands name apparently means "f*cked up and naked" which more than adequately describes their music. Formed by band leader Mizutani Takashi, the music remained remarkably familiar over the years, and is best described as high volume, raw lo-fi repetitive feedback-drenched guitar noise fests with nods in the direction of the Velvet Underground and Blues Creation but without the electronics. Radical left wing politics was never far from the bands agenda, with one original band member (Wakabayashi) being involved in the Japanese Red Armys hijacking of a flight to North Korea.. Consequently, the group's live appearances became less frequent and increasingly clandestine. All the bands albums were released in very small quantities and because of the group's reputation for secrecy and violence, as well as the difficulty in tracking down their recordings, Les Rallizes Denudes has assumed almost mythical status. CD $10 SKU:19036

REICHEL & MACHINES, ACHIM - AR 3- (70s Legendary underground freak Label:GERMANOFON If this album wasn't made in Germany and was entirely instrumental, one could easily mistake it as a "psychedelic/space rock" album, because it's made up of mostly kosmiche, spacey jams. It's the occasional vocal chants and keyboards which give it a nice Krautrock flavor. A superb album with no major flaws, indeed an excellent addition to any prog/psych music collection. Especially recommended for fans of spacey and psychedelic music, and essential to Krautrock enthusiasts. Happy listening..." -progarchives.com "For Achim Reichel's 1973 release, and first on his vanity label Zebra, the talented Okko Bekker and noted Krautrock producer Thomas Kuckuck were invited along with many others, with the results being a higher-level mix of echo-guitar excursions, imaginative ensemble playing and kosmische folk-blues. Essential A.R.!" CD $10 SKU:7184

SIXTING MUSIC- Rendering Pink Floyds (Obscure French-only Pink Floyd covers!)-Label:Skyf Zol Obscure French-only Pink Floyd covers album gets an outing on CD; as the label says, “It was only natural that the budget/knock-off record market would venture into the vaunted world of progressive music. And so, sometime after the release Dark Side Of The Moon, musicians of suitable competency were hired, cover songs were selected, and the art department went to work on something eye-catching and only a little deceptive. Not surprisingly, six of the eight tracks are aimed squarely at the Meddle/DSOTM heads, leaving just enough room for a slowed-down ‘Apples And Oranges’ and the tossed-off instrumental ‘Red Phone. STONE GARDEN -ST (US. 60s HEAVY PSYCH) Label:GEAR FAB For the late 60’s, there wasn’t a much heavier record thanthis amazing slab of US Heavy Psychedelic/Acid Rock!Stone Garden hailed from a state one could assume was among the last touched by the chemical stimulant-inspired revolution in rock music in the '60s. But you wouldn't be able to tell that from Stone Garden. Cobbled together from live and studio recordings made between 1969 and 1971, the reissue collects virtually every available note by the pack of Idaho teens, including both sides of their lone, extremely rare 45 ("Oceans Inside Me"/"Stop My Thinking"). Aside from that single, all the tracks remained unreleased until appearing as a superbly packaged 1998 Rockadelic LP, reproduced in its entirety on this Gear Fab CD. So is it worth all the archival fuss? Mostly, yes, it really is. Stone Garden is an always blistering and often thrilling racket that splits the difference between the plundering depths of hard rock and the mind-excursion highs of psychedelia (or, more precisely, acid rock), carving out a nifty Western patch of its own. A heady trick for a group of boys from the potato state in the year of Woodstock, and, if dated in minor ways, still body-rattling music decades after the fact. There is some dense riffage (the re-recorded version of "Oceans," "It's a Beautiful Day," an awesome "Woodstick") that comes as close to proto-heavy metal shredding as anything else recorded in or around 1969 (that includes Steppenwolf, Black Sabbath, Iron Butterfly, and Blue Cheer), and the band had both an affinity and knack for scintillating, dual-guitar electric blues ("Stop My Thinking"), although the album's sole outright misstep, "SF Policeman Blues," apes early Grateful Dead a little too closely. But there is plenty of consciousness-expanding, detail-intriguing, and ominous melodic shifts, nifty but queasy coats of echo, Zappa-esque avant-garde effects ("Bastard"), and surprisingly mature and hip lyrics -- even if the performances are not exactly nuanced. Subtle Stone Garden was not. But the music can cut you off at the knees and knock the wind out of you, which is pretty impressive stuff. CD $10 SKU:18837

The book version, first published in December 1996, has been out-of-print for a while now, and is now becoming quite a collectable. SUMMER TURNS TO AUTUMN - Ember Rock, Vol. 2 (RARE 60S PSYCH& PROG)-Label:FANTASTIC VOYAGE British indie label Ember released a number of rock albums and singles between 1969 and 1972, which today are much sought after by collectors of psychedelic, progressive and folk rock sounds. Many of the best tracks from these are gathered on “Summer Turns To Autumn”. Foremost among the artists compiled here is progressive rock band Blonde On Blonde, represented by tracks from both of their Ember albums. Fantastic Voyage has salvaged two tracks from Blue Beard s album. An early songwriting/production project for Bob Welch, who next surfaced in Fleetwood Mac, the album was only released in Italy, but the single ‘Sly Willy’ was more widely available and is highly prized by collectors of funky rock. Tyrannosaurus Rex-style acoustic hippy duo Knocker Jungle and progressive folk group 9.30 Fly each managed one now highly collectable long player for the label. The remainder of the material ranges from the fuzzy psychedelic rock of Canadians The Dorians and the melodic folk rock of Paddy Maguire, backed by heavy friends Steve Winwood and Jerry Donahue (of Fotheringay), to the soul-rock fusion of Milt Matthews Inc, here interpreting a Blind Faith song, and a previously unissued folk rock rendition of ‘East Virginia’ by Polly Niles. “Summer Turns To Autumn” complement Fantastic Voyage’s existing, highly popular compilations of Ember Beat and Ember Pop, with no duplication of tracks. Nice shrink-wrapped slip-case packaging. COMP CD $10 SKU:19046

SUNDAY SUNSHINE- The World of SNB Records (60s Pop Psych) -Label:RPM A unique 60s collection. Remastered from original CBS held SNB tapes, includes very rare singles. Essential for pop psych and similar collectors. One of the movers and shakers of the music biz in the modern era has been Simon Napier Bell, and during 1968-1969 he put his talents into A&R-ing his own label. Fresh from managing The Yardbirds, Johns Children and co-authoring for Dusty Springfield, and with backing from CBS, SNB picked up on the hip pop world flowing through London at the time. It is an extraordinary assortment from which we have distilled the most potent exotic, baroque and pop psych elements. All have high production values with the likes of the talented Ian Green as arranger. As you would expect most of the singles are today very rare, and have not been reissued or released on CD. That said there is growing awareness of the music from numerous quarters, with pick up from internet radio stations to magazines, and the label has attained a cult standing. First time reissue, first time on CD. A unique 60s collection. Remastered from original CBS held SNB tapes, includes very rare singles. Essential for pop psych and similar collectors." SWEET SURRENDER - EMBER POP (OBSCURE 70S) Label:FANTASTIC VOYAGE Collectors will cherish the recordings of the more obscure artists. From Record Collector: “As a follow-up to Rainy Day Mind, Fantastic Voyage’s second trawl through the Ember label’s pop archives proves that bantamweights can sometimes conjure forth a more evocative picture of a given era than the big hitters. Sweet Surrender comes across like a Tony Blackburn radio show circa 1970: untainted by heaviosity, cheerfully free of social comment and aimed simply at urging the Radio 1 Roadshow faithful to shuffle gamely onto the dancefloor in their knee boots and hot pants. The Rusty Harness version of 'Take Me For A Little While' packs an ecstatic Northern soul thump and is a definite highlight, alongside girl group Mother Trucker’s chunky contributions ('Explosion In My Soul,' 'Wrap It Up'), 'Simone' by Mamas & Papas escapee Denny Doherty, Polly Niles’ sprightly take on 'For What It’s Worth' and Blue Beard’s endearingly rustic 'Country Man', on which the vocalist sounds as though he’s been smoking an exhaust pipe in the Appalachians since boyhood.” Nice shrink-wrapped slip-case packaging. THREE O CLOCK MERRIAN WEBSTER TIME - 22 Psych Sounds from Texas. 66-68Label:CICADELIC RECORDS (USA) By the time 1966 ended, many of the groups in Texas that started out playing British Invasion and folk-rock music, were now immersing themselves in the newly emerging psychedelic music. The five groups that comprise this album reflect the changes that occurred during this period and four of them even changed their names to sound more psychedelic. The Nomads became Smoke, Carrols Mood became The Sights And Sounds, The New Imperials became The Front Page News, and The Boys became The Remaining Few. Represented by twelve tracks on this album, The Nomads/Smoke, started out playing folk-rock music, but by 1967 went psychedelic-as witnessed by their “freak-out” version of “My Little Red Book” replete with backwards tapes. “Carrols Mood” went from singing ballads to surreal songs such as “Mystical Bells”. The Front Page News went from the soul of “Baby Let Me Bang Your Box” to the fuzz drenched “Thoughts and Afterthoughts”. If the 13th Floor Elevators were the epitome of what a Texas psychedelic band was, then the groups on this album were not far behind in trying to emulate that state of existence. Here then are twenty-two tracks compiling the changes that occurred from late 1966 to 1968, when the Texas bands went metaphorically speaking from “Kool-Aid” to “Electric Kool-Aid Acid” COMP CD $10 SKU:13278
