HILLARY BLAZE- Exposure (1977 metallic sci-fi hard rock private press )Label:ROCKADROME Official reissue of sought after 1977 metallic sci-fi hard rock private press record, featuring ex-members of the psychedelic 60s group Paper Garden. Available again for the first time in over 30 years! Recorded and mastered during the summer of '76, “Exposure” was originally released in 1977 on their own 30th Century Fox label. Music fans re-discovered this gem sometime in the 90s and the original pressing has since become a record collector prize. The spacey punk vibe, sizzling guitar and snotty vocals give the album a unique and ear-catching sound for its time. Re-mastered for compact disc from the original tapes, the resulting sound is nothing short of killer! Play this one loud! CD $16 SKU:20195

YEZDA URFA -Sacred Baboon (80s zany prog psych)Label:SYN-PHONIC (USA):this on-line review says it all: “What would you get if you combined the sounds of Yes and Gentle Giant with a large dose of psychedelic chemicals? You'd probably get something that sounds a lot like Yezda Urfa. Yezda Urfa is the craziest, zaniest, most incredible progressive rock band that you have never heard. Most of the tracks on “Sacred Baboon” are two speeds: fast and really fast, although they do make room for some lighter moments. Those of you who like guitar dominated progressive rock will have loads to feast on here. Mark Tippins' guitar work always runs full throttle throughout the album with incredibly fast melodic parts, and there's plenty of other virtuosity to be found on the album as well. An ocarina and recorder chorus fill out the beginning of ‘Cancer of the Band.’ Vibes, harpsichords, synths, organs, and voices play in tandem with the guitar. Yezda Urfa pull out all the stops however on ‘3, Almost 4, 6 Yea,’ a high energy track featuring multiple time signatures, cross-cutting sections, and a heartrendingly beautiful classical guitar solo. The album stands up well against similar efforts by other contemporary American acts such as Happy the Man. If you can make it past the juvenile titles such as ‘My Doctor Said I had a Doggie Head’ and ‘Give 'Em Some Rawhide Chewies,’ you'll discover a long-lost classic of prog's darker days. TELEGRAPH AVENUE - ST(Peruvian 70s psych rock)Label:RE-PSYCHLED Telegraph Avenue’s debut album appeared on the market in Peru, and became the best selling rock record of the year. The time was right for Latin rock with psychedelic touches (a fact evident all over the Americas), and Telegraph Avenue delivered: guitars saturate the amplifiers, using natural distortion and feedbacks, with Latin bass lines, powerful drums and Latin flavored percussions filling all songs with the uniqueness of their sound. Their songs sometimes sound like Grand Funk’s early records, but others have vocal melodies more akin to a West Coast psych style. Now, 35-years later, Repsychled Records has the pleasure to present the definitive reissue of this album; this reissue is the first done using the original master tapes, and was remastered with tube amplifiers; it includes the original artwork in a gatefold mini-LP format, a booklet with unseen photos and souvenirs from the band’s concerts, an extra insert with band biography, and an unreleased song. Limited mini cardboard sleeve edition CD $15 SKU:20201

ROCK EN AREQUIPA- ST (Rare singles from 60s Peru )Label:RE-PSYCHLED Twenty-one tracks (72 minutes), the best of the rare singles recorded by bands like Free Love System, Los Texao, Los Incógnitos, Madera Fresca, and Opus who thrived in Arequipa, Peru during the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. Arequipa? yes, Arequipa, the second most populous city in Peru, up in the Andes mountains at an altitude of 2,380 meters (7,800 feet) above sea level; Arequipa, nicknamed La Ciudad Blanca (The White City), nestled beneath the snow-capped volcano El Misti. Arequipa. Get your Peruvian beat fix with groovy tracks from Los Incógnitos and Los Texao. Want some face-melting psychedelia instead? check out Los Texao’s ‘Stone’ or their fuzz-guitar laced instrumental ‘Swarlb’—both a musical style called "Niebla" (Fog), because of the effect produced by the band’s rotor amps and reverb and echo effects. (Los Texao were the first group in the province to record using FuzzTone effects, using powerful Dynacord amps imported from Germany). Prefer a more laid-back style? then you’ll love Free Love System. Looking for some heavy grooves? ‘La pelea del gobernador’ (Los Texao) or ‘Un paseo por el recuerdo’ (Free Love System) might do it for you. Sixteen-page booklet has mini-biographies of all five bands in Spanish and English; all tracks are from the master tapes, with the exception of Madera Fresca’s freak out ‘Any Time’—a classic at parties—and their acoustic version of ‘La lenta que apura,’ both rescued from the obscurity of a rare cassette. The first regional rock compilation from Peru's rich and mostly undiscovered musical history, but certainly not the last! COMP CD $15 SKU:20202

LA IRA DE DIOS - Empirea(Peruvian heavy psych power trio) with video -Label:RE-PSYCHLED Second release—six previously unreleased tracks recorded between 2002 to 2005—from heavy Peruvian power trio whose name translates as "The Wrath of God," a record made available by the combined efforts of three labels. New songs, one a cover version of a track by Los Saicos (Peruvian garage band from 1965), plus three alternate versions of songs from the band’s previous album "Hacia el Sol Rojo". A mix of songs which range from space rock to doom rock; powerful heavy rock chords, capped by the long, hypnotic title track. Artwork has photos from every period of the band’s existence. Includes a raw 8 minutes of video footage of the band playing the unreleased song ‘Quemando,’ in concert sometime in December 2005. A total of 55 minutes of pure heavy psych rock 'n roll!! CD $15 SKU:20204

AEROBLUS - ST (1977 Brazil heavy rock/proto metal) Label:HRC By rights, the band should be called Aeroblues, but the band's name was deliberately misspelled, to give it a 'Rioplatense' touch, by this heavy rock/proto metal band formed in 1977 by Argentine guitarist Norberto "Pappo" Napolitano in Brazil with excellent Brazilian drummer, Júnior; and bassist Alejandro Medina (ex-member of Billy Bond y La Pesada and Manal. Stylistically, dare one say 'samey'—Heavy Blues and/or Proto Metal with not too much variation. But still, it is truly great, and the band has a power that unavoidably moves you, if you can tell a good from a mediocre band in this genre. In case you are wondering, Aeroblus belongs on the list of the good ones. The Aeroblus album shows-off groove and sophistication at the same time; note the strength in the Alejandro Medina's voice, which is quite spectacular. Pappo's voice lacks the same grit and stamina, yet on the other hand he was a fine composer and a fantastic guitarist; his lyrics are obscure and semi-philosophical at times, which suits the apocalyptic sound CD $16 SKU:20213

CONGRESO - ST (1977 Chilean fock)Label:CIRCOLO DEL DISCO PRODUZIONE (1977): reissue of the band’s third album, lovely, unclassifiable music from Chile—a perfect amalgam of rock, folklore and erudition—first released in 1977 by EMI; if the first Congreso album is their spontaneous and innocent album, this one is their most advanced effort— conscientious and adult—with all the elements of their previous two albums combined to develop music that displays greater compositional complexity; there is one consistent factor in the music of Congreso, and that is the beauty of the band’s melodies; includes a 10-minute bonus track very much in the same vein as the first album CD $16 SKU:20216

EL RELOJ- FIRST ALBUM AND SECOND ALBUM (70s Argentina premiere hard rock )Label:SUNNY PIERROT Despite releasing two warmly received albums in mid-70's, El Reloj were well-known in Argentina since the early-70's as a premiere Hard Rock band, led by bassist Eduardo Frezza and lead guitarist Willy Gardi. They had played numerous lives, before taking a break around 1971, when second guitarist's Gregorio ''Goyo'' Felipes life was cut short due to a terrible accident. They returned the following year with new member Osvaldo Zabala on second guitar and Juan Esposito on drums and Luis Alberto Valenti on keyboards. In 1973, their debut single sold about 30,000 copies and in 1975 they released their first full-length, self-titled album on RCA Victor's Vik sublabel, recalling the powerful heavy rock of Deep Purple. The following year a second self-titled album came out on RCA Victor, today known as ''Segundo album'' or named after the track ''Al borde del abismo''. This disc includes the first two albums plus four singles tracks. Cool Argentinian Hard Prog Rock very similar to the Italian bands of the period.Dual and even triple guitar fests with complex themes, supported by pinches of keyboard dominance.Quite attractive and warmly recommended CD $16 SKU:20218

JESUS FIGUEROA (OPUS ALFA) -Con Todos + Magica Fuente (Uruguay 70s blues psych) Label:RECORD RUNNER Compilation that includes his 1973 & 1974 solo albums as well as an Opus Alfa bonus track taken from their 1971 7" single. Figueroa was the lead singer of Uruguay psych band Opus Alfa, which evolved into Dias de Blues (without him). It was an amicable split, however, and the members of Dias de Blues performed on the first album. Both of the ultra-rare blues influenced psych albums (1973/1974) from Figueroa are on this disc: “Con Todos” has great atmospheric acoustic slide-guitar blues alternating with thudding heavy rocking blues tracks; “Con Todos” is good, but “Magica Fuente” is much more compelling and shows real imagination, with some weird effects and more of a drug vibe; sinuous guitar slow burn blues combined with guitar-propelled rave-ups; there is harp on one track, perhaps foretelling Figueroa’s subsequent search for enlightenment from eastern gurus CD $16 SKU:20220

FLAVIOLA AND THE FLOCK OF THE SUN - ST (1974 Brazilian psych)Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA Another great example of Brasilian “psicodelia” from the collective of underground musicians in Recife, featuring Flávio Lira in the lead role, along with Lula Côrtes, Pablo Raphael, Robertinho of Recife, and Zé of the Flute. Of the crazy albums from this period, the Flaviola record FLAVIOLA E O BANDO DO SOL (Flaviola and the Flock of the Sun) is one of the rarest jewels. Although it was recorded the same year (1974) as Lula Côrtes and Zé Ramalho’s “Paêbiru” album, and with most of the same musicians, this is mainly an acoustic album, rife with poetic language and regional instruments, but also demonstrating the abundant energy of people involved in making something fresh and new. The cauldron of influence in Recife resulted in some very intriguing music, and the Flaviola album is no exception—it’s more intimate a trip than “Paêbirú”, and more accessible an experience than “Satwa”; this is a brilliant album, full of strange moments (cellophane crinkled into the microphone as percussion), some deft acoustic guitar, and some of the prettiest songs this side of Vashti Bunyan. Notes are more or less in English, and hefty booklet includes lyrics too. CD $15 SKU:20221

MC5- American Ruse - WAREHOUSE FIND -Label:TOTAL ENERGY Found a few of these kicking around the warehouse from long ago and far away! The American Ruse is comprised mainly of Back in the USA studio outtakes with and without vocals, rounded out by “I Believe To My Soul” and the totally out-there ”Black to Comm” from “Dialogue ‘68.” It may not be suitable to throw on during a party, but you can test people’s knowledge of MC5 lyrics with impromptu karaoke sessions. I’m serious: just try to sing along and you will soon have even more respect for Tyner’s vocal prowess as you realize how tightly on a dime he had those lyrics nailed—especially “Teenage Lust.” CD $10 SKU:20235

MC5- Human Being Lawnmower Maddest and Baddestm WAREHOUSE FIND -Label:TOTAL ENERGY Found a few of these kicking around the warehouse from long ago and far away! Okay. After all this razzmatazz, probably the best place to start is with the recent Human Being Lawnmower: The Baddest and Maddest Of MC5 CD, which collects many of the best moments off previous Total Energy releases along with the best sounding live cover version of Ray Charles’ “I Believe To My Soul” ever, a brilliant sounding “flat mix” of the A-2 version of ‘Borderline” and a poignant Sonic Smith acoustic demo of “Over And Over.“ Rounding it all off is J.C. Crawford’s “What Is Zenta?” and well, what more could you ask for? (Besides the tracks they left off Kick Out the Jams, the pre-Landau run-throughs at Elektra of “Human Being Lawnmower,” “Call Me Animal” and “Teenage Lust,” I mean…) ARTHUR MAGAZINE CD $10 SKU:20236

3 HUREL- ST (70’s psych fuzz guitar ) - Label:World Psych Korea Recorded between 1970 and 1975 by the talented HUR EL brothers. CD $10 SKU:9009

ABUELO , MIGUEL & NADA - ST (70s Argentine psych prog )Label:CONDOR’S CAVE Recorded in 1974 in France, the album that is the bulk of this reissue has long been regarded as one of the finest recorded by any Argentine artist of the era. With a voice sounding like a cross between Tim Buckley and Peter Hammill, Abuelo became a big star in his native land, recording several rare psyched-out singles in the late sixties, with bells, treated vocals, strange edits, lots of phasing etc., included here as bonus tracks. But thanks to his fickle temper, there was no LP from Abuelo during that time—the album would only emerge years later, after a sojourn in Ibiza, and a bit of wandering throughout Europe. For the actual LP, Abuelo received superb support from Nada, who provided excellent musicianship throughout: the tracks are alternately progressive and very psychedelic (described by some as a cross between Led Zeppelin and Van der Graaf Generator), intense and gloomy. Sadly, Abuelo died of AIDS in 1988, which has diminished the importance of his legacy CD $16 SKU:20203

BABYLON - ST- (lost gem of 70s prog Label:SYN-PHONIC (USA): According to fans of progressive rock music, Babylon’s only eponymous effort is “one of the most amazing lost gems of American symphonic 1970’s prog.” Recorded in late 1977 and released a year later, this album (like so many before and since) went unnoticed by the mainstream rock world; apparently, the band had a loyal cult following, who have made certain that this album remains in print. The band wear their main influences upon their sleeves: quartet-era Genesis (they had a penchant for costumes reminiscent of that band’s Peter Gabriel-era), Yes, Gentle Giant, and also Van der Graaf Generator (the lead singer’s impetuous vocalizations). A light dynamic to the full instrumentation all the way through the shifts of melody, ambience and tempo. The dialogues between the guitar and synth are the most prominent features of the music, with the rhythm section setting a firm frame, while the keyboard orchestrations and adornments on string synth, piano and Birotron set an orchestral mood that proves effective for the most explicitly dramatic passages of the songs. Babylon was formed in Florida in 1976 by Rick Leonard, Rodney Best, Doroccas, J. David Boyko, and Gary Chambers. Hard Rock driven passages are constant on this unique album of a fabulous band. Babylon is firmly set in the ways of the classic 1970’s bands, with great analog keyboard work and extraordinarily adept musicianship. They released only this one album and broke up. CD $14 SKU:20196

BEAT BOYS - ST ( Brazilian 60s pop-psych , 20 page booklet and rare singles track - Label:LION Laden with torrid psychedelic moments (released by RCA Victor in 1968), as well as a rare singles track from the same year. A 20-page booklet includes lyrics, and an exploration of the Beat Boys’ fascinating story. .Along with Os Mutantes, the Beat Boys represented the most radical element in Brazilian rock: their name, clothes, hair—and intense fuzz guitar raves—were all fierce indicators of a rebel spirit, and this in a dangerous time for such self-expression. Here is the simple truth: The Beat Boys were at the very epicenter of the cultural revolution that convulsed Brazil during the late 1960’s, that movement of rupture, that bringing together of electricity and avant-garde erudition that has come to be known as “Tropicália.” They backed Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil for their defining moments as artists—both live, and in the studio on tracks which became the opening Tropicalist salvo (a rare EP). So, what were this group of Argentine rock musicians doing in the forefront of all things outrageous in Brazil? More to the point, why is it that very few people, even among the Brazilian music cognoscenti, have ever heard of them? One explanation must be the fact that the band were essentially outsiders to the Brazilian music scene. As unlikely as it was for them to penetrate the inner circles of Brazilian elite musicians (it was unlikely), it was even more unlikely that they would remain there once their closest friends, Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil, were exiled from Brazil. This disc includes the Beat Boys entire output under their own name: their sole album—an exercise in what one might call “controlled Tropicália”,“Caetano called the Beat Boys, an Argentinean group settled in São Paulo who had been inspired by the Beatles, to accompany him in ‘Alegria, Alegria.’ That, in fact marked the beginning of the Tropicalista thing.” —Gilberto Gil CD $10 SKU:9431

GERARD MANSET -La Mort D’Orion (1970 French rebel)Label:WORLD It was the release of “La Mort D'orion” (1970), his third album, that made self proclaimed ‘lifelong rebel and eternal failure’ Gerard Manset famous in his native France. This ambitious concept album opens with dissonant strings in a classical mode that could easily be part of a Bartok quartet; the music then evolves (after a sitar interlude) into a multi-part, nearly 25-minute long song with an epic sweep that seems to encompass and distill all the finest that French modernism has to offer, channeling the spirit of its literary innovators (from Nerval, Rimbaud, Apollonaire, and Cendras to the likes of Camus, Sartre, and Robbe-Grillet), while also benefiting from the advancements in studio sound pioneered by the likes of Pierre Henry at Pierre Schaffer’s studio at RTF. As our friends at Other Music have said, “moments of seemingly normal French chanson give way to subtle and psychologically disorienting manipulations of orchestral trappings—the results are very dark, very beautiful, and quite unlike anything you'd expect from French popular music.” Creepy in some parts, at others "serious" psychedelic/avant garde progressive psychedelia, with abundant dark orchestrated atmospheres; for those who don’t object to this approach it is an album that can only be described as a masterpiece. In the end, "La Mort d’Orion" proved to be both a critical and commercial triumph; indeed, it went on to sell more than 20,000 copies—a remarkable feat for such a strange and innovative album—and French critics showered it with rave reviews. Amazing that this has scarcely been noticed outside of France. Hefty booklet (20 pages) contains biographical information, and lyrics. CD $12 SKU:20172

LAS ANTORCHAS- ST ( 60s Mexican acid punk w liner notes, and a poster insert ) Paper mini slv replica - Label:ORFEON Las Antorchas were formed in 1965 by five college students in Mexico City. They released only one EP on Orfeon, but had recorded enough material for an album. They split around 1968/69, but after a line-up change they continued under the name of Antorcha. Thanks to the persistence of VAM Records and record producer Manuel Alvarez Valdez, we now have all known material of Las Antorchas, including their Orfeon material. Their early sounds are rock/beat influenced, with most relying on organ and vocals. But the excellent ‘Dime’ is a really great acid-punk track. Truly underground Mexican rock, waiting to be discovered. This edition has liner notes, and a poster insert that replicates the Orfeon EP art. The CD features 18 tracks in all – their famous EP, plus a host of great singles – with titles that include "Opus 14 Interior 12", "Dime", "Shake", "Confesion", "El Soldado", "Sabia", "No Lo Hagas", "Canta Conmigo", and "Substitute". CD $10 SKU:15118

LITTLE BOY BLUES- In The Woodland Of Weir (60s acid rock)Label:KISMET Their sole album -- made with a revised line-up and originally released in October 1968 -- incorporates jazz, classical and acid-rock influences, and makes its long-overdue return to CD here, complete with all their non-album singles sides. Includes liner notes. Formed in Chicago in 1964, The Little Boy Blues soon became local heroes, opening for The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, Paul Revere & The Raiders, and many others. Having played innumerable live dates and appeared on top TV shows, their sound took a psychedelic turn in 1967. CD $10 SKU:13424

LONDONERS/ THE KNACK - 14 MOD BEAT NUGGETS 65-67-Label:WET WORLD RECORDS (USA) Paul Gurvitz and vocalist/guitarist Brian Morris formed a band in 1963, immediately heading across the English Channel to play US Army bases.Upon their return, they christened themselves The Londoners, backed up Gene Vincent for a while, and released a 7" (‘That's My Desire’ b/w ‘Bring It On Home To Me’) on the German Star Club label. They soon met up with famed producer/manager Larry Page and with another name change (this time inspired by Richard Lester's big comedy hit The Knack... And How To Get It) released a half-dozen singles for the Decca and Piccadilly labels between 1965 and 1967. Paul of course eventually ditched his shears and formed Gun with his brother Adrian and Peter Dunton of the Flies, Please, Neon Pearl, and T2 fame, and after that Three Man Army but that's another story. Presented here are The Londoners and The Knack's complete discography—fourteen mod/beat nuggets plus an unreleased take of ‘Back In The USA,’ plus unreleased pics and liner notes spanning their haberdashery roots to the present day. LOVE LIVE LIFE + 1- Love Will Make A Better You (Japanese psych) Label:DRONE SYNDICATE Number six on the Japrocksampler Top 50, available again for the first time in over a decade! "Commencing with singer Akira Fuse's goggle-eyed one-day-old-baby innocence, Love Live Life + 1's album opener 'The Question Mark' escorts us through an eighteen-minute free-rock R&B adventure like nothing before or since. Clanking harsher than even the title track of Funkadelic's Free Your Mind & Your Ass Will Follow, and twice as long; cosmic as the Cosmic Joker's Galactic Supermarket, and gnarly as John McLaughlin's out-there-a-minute axe excursions on Miles's 'Right Off'' or his own Devotion solo LP, do these guys fight for their right to party! The mellower second side includes the insanely brilliant eight-minute epic 'Shadows Of My Mind', in which Akira Fuse sings like some drunken Italian baritone, while atonal swooping strings and crazy brass support/undermine him; then it's off into a juggernaut bass-heavy clatter-thon with duel-axe outrage of the highest level. And how about that title track whose catchy bastard licks unashamedly rip Sly's 'I Want To Take You Higher', but still have you singing along with Fuse? The record closes brilliantly with the demented 'Facts About It All', which opens like Fuse laying a grunting 6/8 James Brown/Eric Burdon ballad on us. But no, this miniature R&B opera says in 2 minutes and 56 seconds what prog bands took a whole side to say. All hail visionary genius Ikuzo Orita for uniting his fave guitarist Kimio Mizutani with the errant free-jazz Gibson 335 of Takao Naoi, whose brittle spittle pops permanent wheelies around these slippery rhythm tracks. Also hail Orita for recognizing the genius of these songs of sax player Kei Ichihara, for trusting Akira Fuse's professionalism and open-mindedness, and for seeing this 33-minute-long classic to its unlikely conclusion." MATEO, EDUARDO- Mateo Solo Bien Se Lame (1972 Uruguay) - Label:LION From its first moments, the music is lilting, poetic, intimate, in turns life-affirming and melancholic, with pulsating percussion backed by unheard-of guitar chords and tunings (perhaps the reason for the frequent Caetano Veloso and Nick Drake comparisons); it is an album that sounds, simply put, honest. The record was released at the end of 1972 in both Argentina and Uruguay, and was received from that first moment as a classic in those countries, a position it still occupies today." CD $12 SKU:5752

American 60s garage-Label:La Vida Lenta If Los Shakers were (according to the official history of rock) The Beatles of the River Plate region, then Los Mockers were the Stones. PLASTICLAND- ST Aka Colour Appreciation (60s influenced psychedelic/garage magic) - Label:Hardknocks Hard-to-find band-authorized CD version of the 1984 debut album from these neo-psychedelic greats—pure 1960s influenced psychedelic/garage magic, a trip not to be missed for any reason! POP MUSIC TEAM - Society Is A Shit ( ultra rare Mexican 60s psych ) Paper mini slv replica - Label:VAM MEXICO Pop Music Team were among the first psychedelic bands in Mexico, writing original material influenced by Iron Butterfly, Jefferson Airplane, and the Doors (they even opened for the Doors at the Forum in Mexico City). This is a reissue of their legendary unreleased album, recorded for Orfeon in April 1969, with killer fuzz guitar and organ, mostly sung in English. This music should be known to all psych music heads, but it isn’t: so what happened? It’s simple. A demo recording of the band’s track ‘Tlatelolco 68’ was broadcast on the radio in 1969. The Mexican government heard the track, and immediately quashed the release of the album; their objection: the song described the brutal repression of the student movement in Mexico (students were slaughtered at La Plaza de las Tres Culturas in Tlatelolco, Mexico City). For a long time, about 36 years to be precise, no one knew that an entire album had been recorded, or where to find the masters. But here it is, psychedelic garage jams with sweet fuzz and farfisa, including ‘Tlatelolco 68’, which turns out to be a 10-minute freaked out long jam. Sure, the cover art looks like a bubble gum packet (there was no original jacket art, since the album was never released), but don't let that or the band name scare you. This is wonderful stuff! PSYCHEDELIC MOODS PART 2 - Sunset Love & Inner Sanctum Journey Thru Inner Space)Label:CICADELIC After releasing the “Psychedelic Moods” album, in October of 1966, Mark Barkan envisioned another psychedelic album for his next release. It was to be performed by a Greenwich Village band called “Inner Sanctum”. The theme of the album was to be a psychedelic journey into the various psyches of the mind. The trip started with a journey into the past (The House Of Yesterday) then covered the inner workings of the mind (ID) then the descent into madness (Hydro Pyro) hallucination (Purple Floating) and finally culminating in nirvana (Snow Petals). Unfortunately, Barkan was unable to find a record company willing to lease the masters and so they languished for decades unreleased. Now, at long last the masters for this aborted album are mixed from the original four track tapes and forty plus years later the psychedelic sounds of “Inner Sanctum” are now ready, willing, and able to blow your mind. Sunset Love” was comprised of band members from New Mexico and Texas. In the fall of 1968, thirteen original songs and two covers were recorded for a potential album, but nothing was ever released. “Sunset Love’s” lush harmonies, soaring vocals, superior song writing, and flower power consciousness pervaded their songs with a depth and quality unheard of from most 60s’ bands. While their sound can be compared to such bands as “The Mamas and The Papas”, “The Peanut Butter Conspiracy”, “Spanky and Our Gang”, and “The Love Exchange”, “Sunset Love” had their own inimitable style that transcended a generic stereo-type. Had Sunset Love released their album in the 60’s, there is no doubt it would have been an instant rarity of excellence. The “Sunset Love” tapes are sourced from the original stereo versions and reveal the great harmonies and surrealistic lyrics of an undeservedly overlooked and forgotten band from the late 60’ CD $12 SKU:12399

QUINTAL DE CLOROFILA- O Mistério Dos Quintais (1983 Argentine psych folk )Label:DISCOS MARIPOSA Only album by psychedelic folk duo formed by brothers Dimitri and Negendre Arbo, part of a set of folk groups from Brasil comprised of “gaúchos” (native country people); Quintal de Clorofila is one of the few bands of this sort who got to make a record, which was released by the independent label Bobby Som in 1983. For this LP, Quintal de Clorofila recorded their own compositions, with lyrics by their brother, the poet Antônio Carlos Arbo. According to Dimitri Arbo, the band mixed rock, medieval music, Afro, oriental and Latin rhythms... a blend of music they dubbed "Viking Rock" (not sure why). It’s a complex sound to be sure, with tremendous depth and abundant inspiration evident throughout all of the album’s atmospheric songs. An album much beloved by Hans Pokora—and now by us. Two alternate versions of songs from the album are included as bonus tracks CD $12 SKU:20151

SANDSTONE- Can You Mend A Silver Thread (private press 70s Psych Folk ) -Label:LION LION There is nothing ordinary about Sandstone. Booklet has the band’s story and lyrics . CD $10 SKU:13512

SOFT MACHINE- Turns On Vol 2 (60s) Label:VOICEPRINT (England) Second vital collection of archival live Soft Machine recordings from 1967 and 1968. Robert Wyatt's drumming is nearly miraculous, and Mike Ratledge's organ is at its daring and explorative best. Admittedly this is not meant as an introduction to the band for novices, but lovers of the Soft Machine will be blown away by the alternate versions on this disc; they are even more daring than the official releases. Soft Machine (billed as The Soft Machine up to 1969) were formed in the summer of 1966 by Robert Wyatt (drums, vocals), Kevin Ayers (bass, guitar, vocals), Daevid Allen (guitar) and Mike Ratledge (organ) plus, for the first few gigs only, American guitarist Larry Nowlin. Wyatt, Ayers and Hopper had been founding members of the Wilde Flowers, later incarnations of which would include future members of another Canterbury band, Caravan. This first Soft Machine line-up became involved in the early UK underground, featuring prominently at the UFO Club, and subsequently other London clubs like the Speakeasy and Middle Earth, and recorded the group's first single ' Love Makes Sweet Music.’ During July and August 1967, promoter and manager Giorgio Gomelsky booked shows all along the Cote d'Azur, with the band's most notorious early gig taking place in the village square of Saint-Tropez. This led to an invitation to play at producer Eddie Barclay's trendy "Nuit Psychédélique"; the band performed a forty minute rendition of ‘We Did It Again,’ singing the refrain over and over, achieving a Zen-like quality. This made them instant darlings of the Parisian "in" crowd, resulting in invitations to appear on leading television shows and at the Paris Biennale in October 1967. Meanwhile, upon their return from their summer sojourn in France, Allen (an Australian) was denied re-entry to the United Kingdom, so the group continued as a trio, while he returned to Paris to found Gong. The tracks on this disc are drawn from three live performances: tracks 1-5 are from Amerstdam, 10 December 1967; track 6 is from the Middle Earth Club in London, 10 November 1967; tracks 7-14 are from Col Ballroom, Davenport, Iowa, 11 August 196 CD $10 SKU:10918

SUN ALSO RISES - ST (Superb 70s Brit acid psych folk) Label:LION Superb sought-after 1970 British acid folk rarity from the Village Thing label. The Sun Also Rises is another case of a folk/psych duo (we’re thinking of Emtidi, whose “Saat” album we have also reissued) who virtually disappeared in the flesh, once they had left behind a small but fascinating recorded legacy. The sole Sun Also Rises album has been reissued (legally and illegally) on several occasions, a testament to continuing interest in the music contained therein. Who were they? They were Graham and Anne Hemingway from Cardiff, described everywhere as a mystical, magical hippie female and male folk duo, who played guitars, dulcimer, glockenspiel, vibes, bells, kazoo, percussion—joined throughout by label-mate John Turner (bowed and finger-picked string bass), and Andy Leggett. Their one and only album is very much in the creative style and delivery of the Incredible String Band, with similarities to the work of their contemporaries Dr. Strangely Strange, COB, Comus, Forest and Tir Na Nog, as well as others of the original freak-folk brigade. The results of their efforts were tripped-out, spellbinding, esoteric folk collages—songs of wizards and dragons, dreams and intentions, love, flickering candlelight, the sweet scent of half-remembered summers, death, jasmine, and suicide. We hope that this album will come as a wonderful surprise for lovers of the Incredible String Band and their ilk, as there were few bands that were able to stray into this much loved and much loathed world of fantasy and folk music, and live to tell the tale. Our Lion Productions edition comes with a 16-page booklet printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy, which contains a small dose of band info, album lyrics, histories of the Village Thing and Saydisc labels by co-founder Gef Lucena, as well as a Village Thing label discography. CD $10 SKU:10594

YAYS & NAYS- ST- (60s garage 6 stars in Pokora book!) MINI LP SLV - Label:GROOVIE SPAIN "Monster rare USA private pressing from 1968, rated with 6 stars in the Hans Pokora 3001 book. The Yays & Nays were a groovy, hip group comprised of three guys and three girls. This is a truly unique sounding album, full of creative songwriting and vocal arrangements and a style that defies any categorization. There's some fab garage folk-rock on it (the opening track 'Gotta Keep Travelling' is really astounding!), and also some tracks in a bizarre crooner-lounge 'Incredible Strange Music' vein. Reissued for the first time, in collaboration with band members, and with original artwork." CD $10 SKU:14713

These tracks originally came out as micro editions on cassette back then some of which are also unreleased too. COMP CD $14 SKU:20170

COLD WAVES OF COLOR -VA VOL 3 (rare UK Cold Wave 81-85) Label:LION Includes 36-page booklet reprint of the second issue of the Purple Twilight fanzine from 1985. Blinding 3rd volume of wave obscurities sourced from hard or impossible-to-find tapes originally issued in the early-mid ‘80s! Color Tapes again reveal a hitherto unheard slice of British garage cold wave recordings ranging from certifiable dancefloor aces to synth escape pods and integers between.
We’re spoilt for highlights, taking in Duke Of Disrespect’s taut, jabbing electro stunner You Tell Lies (Banging Away) alongside the Hypnobeat-style drive of Disintegrators’ Oscillations and the cold, emotional pull of Silicon Valley’s abstract instrumental Holborn Station 3 am 3rd January 1982 on the front, whilst the other sparks up killer dancefloor material in the razor sharp 808s and synth voices of Club Paris by Beserk In A Hayfield (big stars of the first 2 volumes), and the roiling analogue psychedelia of Stereo Machines & Kinesis. No mistake; this is bona fide essential business for fans of early wave music COMP CD $14 SKU:20206

COLD WAVES OF COLOR -VA VOL 4 (rare UK Cold Wave 81-85) Label:LION Color Tapes unearth another prime, hugely diverse haul of post-punk and minimal wave peaches from their precious archive, including the return of stars from previous volumes such as Beserk In A Hayfield and WeR7. Up there with V-O-D selections, the Color Tapes series so far has provided invaluable insight to hidden or much lesser-known currents of the ‘80s cassette subculture which gave birth to myriad artists, styles and industry conventions whose influence can still be felt over 30 years later. Thanks to Denis Blackham’s exquisite re-mastering, Volume 4 revitalises all 11 songs to sound as good as they’ve ever done, meaning, unlike many inferior compilations, the dancefloor potential of these cuts is really allowed to shine thru, especially in the likes of Beatmixer’s super taut, unreleased electro stingers, Danse Electronique (1986) and The Beatmixer (1986) or the breathtaking electro-pop of Berserk In A Hayfield’s Start Of Something (seriously, this one’s going right to the front of the DJ box), whilst the likes of Silicon Valley and WeR7 tend to more abstract concerns. Highly recommended! COMP CD $14 SKU:20207

BAKER GURVITZ ARMY -Live 1975 (ALL REGION)-Label:Gonzo Multimedia The Baker Gurvitz Army came into existence when former Gun and Three man Army members Paul and Adrian Gurvitz joined forces with legendary drummer Ginger Baker in 1974. The Baker Gurvitz Army was the first real musical project for Ginger Baker since the short-lived band Salt in 1972 and Ginger Baker's Airforce some two years prior to that. The band released their first album the self titled “Baker Gurvitz Army” in late 1974, and the album sold well enough to break in to the American charts. The band went on to record two further studio albums including “Elysian Encounter” in 1975 and “Hearts On Fire” in 1976. This live recording, which forms part of the Official Ginger Baker Bootleg Series, was recorded in Milan on the 23rd of March 1976 during the tour to promote what would turn out to be the bands final studio album, “Hearts On Fire.” The set list at this time reflecting the desire to promote the album included four tracks from the album including ‘Hearts On Fire,’ ‘Night People,’ ‘Thirsty For The Blues’ and ‘Neon Lights.’ There are also two tracks from “Elysian Encounter” (‘People’ and ‘Time’) and two from the bands self titled debut (‘Inside Of Me’ and ‘Memory Lane’). FAIRPORT CONVENTION -Live At Maidstone Castle 1970-Label:VOICEPRINT By 1970 Fairport Convention had been together as a band for some three years. During this period, the band had recorded and released five studio albums, with one of the albums, Liege and Lief, being hailed as genre defining. At the time of the filming of this performance, the band had just recorded their most recent album Full House, with the line-up featuring founder members Richard Thompson and Simon Nicol, alongside Dave Pegg, Dave Swarbrick and drummer Dave Mattacks. This line-up was - and still is - considered one of the key line-ups of Fairport Convention, although the band only managed one studio and (released much later) one live album. Apart from the footage contained on this DVD, the Full House line-up was unfortunately never filmed commercially until reunions at the band's regular Cropredy Festival years later. The film, directed by renowned British film director Tony Palmer, captures the band at the Maidstone Fiesta during the summer of 1970 as they run through their set of the time. This included various jigs and reels, and the songs Sir Patrick Spens and Now Be Thankful. Now Be Thankful, incidentally, although originally recorded for the band's album Full House, was even released at the time as a single. The film also features two songs from Matthews Southern Comfort, the band led by former Fairport Convention member, Ian Matthews. As well as having the Fairport connection, Matthews Southern Comfort would also go on to have a massive hit single with a cover of the Joni Mitchell song Woodstock in late 1970. The film has only recently been rediscovered and the restoration overseen by Tony Palmer. The DVD also includes bonus footage of an exclusive interview filmed in spring 2007 with director Tony Palmer where he explains how he first met Fairport Convention and his thoughts on the band and the film over thirty five years later. DVD $10 SKU:19370
