SEARCHING FOR THE NOW- VA Vol 3 -Label: SLUMBERLAND A Sunny Day in Glasgow began as a bedroom project of Ben Daniels and his sisters, Robin & Lauren. They released their first EP The Sunniest Day Ever in March 2006 which provided them early acclaim and paved the way for their debut full length Scribble Mural Comic Journal on Notenuf Records. Coming on like Aphex Twin covering Cocteau Twins, SMCJ's brilliant blend of dense guitar/electronic noise, sampled rhythms and ethereal pop garnered rave reviews around the world and thrilled music fans with its unique take on the shoegaze template. "Sometimes I Think About You" is a striking re-think of a classic tune from Scots pop legends The Pastels, and points to a very interesting 2008 for A Sunny Day In Glasgow. The Sunny Street is a pop duo based in London, but comprised of two quite talented French folks: Remi and Delphine, both of whom are also in Electrophoenvintage. Taking their musical cues from such touchstones as New Order, Felt, Brighter and Trembling Blue Stars, they started The Sunny Street in 2006 after moving to London. Their sound is captivating and melancholic, capturing the fragile and haunting feelings that go along with love and life. Their 2007 album They Hurt You Everyday on Sweden's Lavender label is a real treat, a gentle swoon of acoustic guitars and the most hushed of vocals, wrapped around tunes that really stick in the head. It's one of our favorites from last year and we hope only the beginning for this pair. "Pottery & Glass 45 RPM $10 SKU:10069

ICECROSS - ST (73 ICELANDIC PROTO METAL!)Label:ROCKADROME This 1973 Icelandic hard rock underground monster has been the target of collectors for at least two decades! Carefully remastered for pristine sound that lays waste to all the bootlegs that have come before. 12-page booklet with liner notes, clippings and photographs. Icecross possess a unique dark sound which reveals influences ranging from Sabbath to Crimson to Blue Oyster Cult and beyond all melded together in such a way to form their distinct Icecross style. Considered proto-metal by many, though they don’t achieve this with a typical smash your face approach. Instead, Icecross unleash some killer inventive guitar sounds by way of Leslie speakers combined with ominous effected bass lines and splendid use of bow to create a perfect dark heavy guitar album. One of the few, if not the only, Icelandic band inspired by Sabbath at that time. Press: "Their album has been legendary among collectors for years. All in all this is an album of overwhelming power with an underlying, uncomfortably penetrating coldness. Obviously one for guitar lovers or those willing to delve into the more obscure history of heavy metal" - Scented Gardens of the Mind CD $14 SKU:17329

MICHAEL ANGELO - DBL CD w S/T" (Guinn Sessions) + "Sorcerer's Dream" + "Nuts" -Label:LION Stunning work from Michael Angelo – a little-known singer/songwriter from the Kansas City scene of the late 70s – one with a style that's totally great, but way too off the era's chronological expectations to get much notice at the time! Michael's music has a real late 60s vibe – some of the trippier folk modes of someone like Donovan, but mixed with the more complete songwriting of an artist like Nilsson or some of the hipper LA writers of the late 60s – all recorded in this laidback, understated way – especially for the 70s – with acoustic guitar most strongly in the mix, and a few other light rhythm touches and keyboards. The production's sharper than folk, but not much more so – and the music here is a great reminder that while we can look at the rock and roll timeline, and think that the punk explosion of the mid 70s was changing everything at once – out in the hinterlands there were still folks like Angelo who were dedicated to refining an older craft. The CD features a huge amount of material – the full original self-titled album, more tracks from those sessions, and a full second album recorded around the same time. 32 tracks on 2CDs, with lots of notes too – and titles that include "Field Of Lonely Eyes", "Future", "Journey To Find Who We Are", "Russian Lament", "Nubian Queen", "This Is The Night", "Love Is Too High", "Spirits Of Mercury", and "SOS Titanic CD $15 SKU:16805

YAYS & NAYS- ST- ( 60s garage 6 stars in Pokora book!) MINI LP SLV - Label:GROOVIE SPAIN "Monster rare USA private pressing from 1968, rated with 6 stars in the Hans Pokora 3001 book. The Yays & Nays were a groovy, hip group comprised of three guys and three girls. This is a truly unique sounding album, full of creative songwriting and vocal arrangements and a style that defies any categorization. There's some fab garage folk-rock on it (the opening track 'Gotta Keep Travelling' is really astounding!), and also some tracks in a bizarre crooner-lounge 'Incredible Strange Music' vein. Reissued for the first time, in collaboration with band members, and with original artwork." CD $8 SKU:11151

ELECTRIC PSYCHEDELIC SITAR HEADSWIRLERS - VA Vol 6 ( 60s Psych ) -Label:PURPLE LANTERN Volume 6 of the series features psych & folk tracks with sitar by 60s/70s artists including: Tomorrow, Family, Magna Carta, 3 Hur-El, Mystic Astrologic Crystal Band, Joseph, The David, The Shiny Gnomes and more. COMP CD $10 SKU:12879

ST. ALBERT'S DREAM- ST 60s psych Limited ed numbered -Label:LYSERGIC SOUND Wonderfully trippy sounds from the end of the 60s – very underground work that goes way beyond any of the bigger psych acts of the time! Most of these tracks are pulled from rare albums, and a few were never issued at the time – and together, the cuts are awash in freak and fuzz, and often have a harder rocking sound than some of the more head-nodding elements of the psych generation! Titles include "Lonesome Cowboy Blues" by Weasel, "Cataflaque" by Greylock Mansion, "615" by Butter, "Feelin Glad" by Sleepy Hollow, "Electric Soul" by Frozen Sun, "Spondeman" by Mechanical Switch, and "Gravestone For Mother" by Oracle. (Limited edition vinyl-only hand-numbered pressing of 800 copies.) COMP LP $22 SKU:15650

FRONT PAGE REVIEW- Mystic Soldiers 180 gram fuzzed-out 1968 psychedelic gem, insert with liner notes -Label:GUERRSEN Here's the definitive vinyl edition of this lost album from the late '60s Bosstown scene. Front Page Review rubbed shoulders with bands like Eden's Children, Beacon Street Union and Strawberry Alarm Clock. With legendary producer Alan Lorber behind the controls, they recorded a whole album for MGM which wasn't released at the time. 'Mystic Soldiers' is a prime example of late '60s US psychedelic rock, featuring a young Steve Cataldo (Saint Steven, Nervous Eaters) on vocals and as the main songwriter. All the right ingredients are featured here, like wah-fuzz guitars, organ, phasing and other psychedelic effects. The sound is taken from the master tapes and you get two bonus tracks, a new cover design featuring an unseen band photo, and an insert with detailed liner notes by Jeremy Cargill (Got Kinda Lost/Ugly Things), telling the band's story for the first time. LP $25 SKU:16061

HOUSED IN MAJESTIC GATEFOLD SLEEVE WITH EXTENSIVE LINER NOTES BY MIKE STAX OF 'UGLY THINGS'
2LP 350 grams carton Gatefold sleeve packed in Japanese plastic bag. Though they were a product of the beat group age, Group 1850 were the Netherlands' first progressive band - in every sense of that word. Constantly changing, constantly evolving, Group 1850 were musical extremists on a do-or-die mission to explode all expectations. Sparks flew, ideas flared, feedback swirled through misty nights, the dead walked, skeletons danced, flies buzzed, mountains fell, words rained fire from angry purple skies. Group 1850 raised all kinds of Hell. My god, were they good. Although the group made two deservedly revered albums, Agemos Trip to Mother Earth (1968) and Paradise Now (1969), some of their best work can be found on their singles, where their borderline insane hyper-creativity was focused into highly-concentrated, radically potent three-minute songs like Misty Night, Mother No-Head, Zero, We Love Live (Like We Love You), Dont Let It Be (We Have to Do It Now), and the magnificent Have You Ever Heard. The A- and B-sides of all their singles can be found on this 2-LP set in their original mono mixes, mastered from the original tapes. A number of previously unreleased demos are also included. Pressed on 180gm vinyl, Mother No-Head: Their 45s comes packaged in a breathtaking gatefold cover with rare archival photos and liner notes by Ugly Things Mike Stax. Chapter A 1. GROUP 1850- Agemo’s Trip To Mother Earth ( 60s psych masterpiece on 180 gram w 3d cover and glasses! ) Label:MISSING VINYL (Greece) First ever audiophile edition, taken from the original vinyl masters for this psychedelic masterwork, originally released on Philips in 1968. Official, deluxe 180g vinyl pressing from the original analogue masters, exact reproduction of the original 3D cover (3D glasses included). Audiophile edition pressed by Music On Vinyl Records (Netherlands)." There is little doubt that "Agemo's Trip to Mother Earth" is cut from the same cloth as Pink Floyd's "Saucerful of Secrets.” In retrospect, Group 1850's work is more imaginative—which one may expect from a Continental band without any commercial restraints. There are many pure psychedelic moments to be had - but just hearing the title track (technically titled 'I Put My Hands on Your Shoulder') should inspire awe who in people for whom this classic of psychedelia is a new discovery. The fuzz guitar, the trippy voices, the acid induced phased effects, and the drumming—there just flat out wasn't anything else like this in 1968. It's a true masterpiece of psychedelic music. LP $35 SKU:15147

HAYMARKET SQUARE- Magic Lantern ( Chicago 60s psych garage
) Label:GUERSSEN A superb vinyl reissue! . Comes with newly remastered sound, insert with liner notes and a cool reproduction of the ultra-rare Baron & Bailey Lightshow poster. Originally from Chicago, Haymarket Square (in '68) released the LP 'Magic Lantern', one of the rarest vinyl artifacts from the US psychedelic underground. Originally conceived as the soundtrack to a psychedelic lightshow art installation, the album offers crude, dark psychedelic rock featuring trippy fuzzed out and wah wah guitars, male/female vocals and long tracks LP $28 SKU:15686

HESTER,CAROLYN COALITION- Magazine ( 70s teen guitar w. candy acid vocals. ) SAALE Label:MISSING VINYL (Greece) “Both Carolyn Hester Coalition albums are fine examples of US west coast style hippie fuzz psychedelic folk rock, like Neighb’rhood Children, Birmingham Sunday and similar outfits. They were recorded in 1969 and 1970 on the METROMEDIA label and are considered to be a must have for US dreamy folk psych music collectors. First ever reissue on vinyl. Limited edition, deluxe 180g vinyl, exact reproduction of the original first pressing. Great US psychedelic folk rock album from 1970.” A little more info: After a handful of traditional folk albums, Carolyn Hester went on a mini trip with The Carolyn Hester Coalition—a completely different beast, which took her in a psychedelic direction. The albums are fine West Coast-style Hippie fuzz Folk Rock/Pop affairs, with Hester singing in a decidedly non-folky Acid Bubblegum style. Solid all the way through, the albums should appeal to any fan of Neighb'rhood Child'n, Birmingham Sunday, Daisy Chain and similar pop/psych trips. The opening of the debut, ‘Magic, Man,’ is well known due to its inclusion on the “Hippie Goddesses” compilation. Since then, the dubious Soundlink people, purveyors of hundreds of foul bootleg reissues under the label names of Radioactive, Fallout, Erebus, Phoenix, and Past & Present have decided that they own these recordings, which is probably the reason (ironically) why anyone has had a chance to hear them. LP $22 SKU:12400

IHRE KINDER - Empty Hands (great German 70s psych prog - 180 gram Ltd ed with inner sleeve. SAALE! - Label:MISSING VINYL Ihre Kinder, formed in 1968, and were the pioneers among the politically and socially engaged groups in Germany. Their second album Leere Hnde was originally released on the legendary KUCKUCK label in 1970. The English version, called Empty Hands, has never been available on vinyl. There was a small number of white label copies pressed by Deutsche Grammophon in 1970/71 to solicit releases by Polyram companies around the world, but as there was no interest, the label dropped the idea. So, now it is the first time ever, that the English version of Leere Hnde is being pressed on vinyl, with the original Kuckuck label and number, the original tracklisting order and the cover as it would have been adjusted for the English version. A great German progressive psychedelic effort, which sounds different and familiarly great in English, that should be part of every serious 70s progressive rock collection. Limited edition, deluxe 180g vinyl, printed innersleeve. LP $22 SKU:12822

KISSING SPELL - Los Pajaros ( S. American West Coast style 70s psych )- Label:ACME Reissue of one of the best and most sought after South American psych albums (1970), remastered from the original stereo master tapes. So it's not the guitar rave-up record many expect from South American psych. Instead, it's West-coast styled introspection from Chile, more akin to We All Together (if you need another South American reference point) at times than anything else. Well-crafted songs with an attractive dreamy quality enhanced by spacey effects, occasional bursts of well-handled fuzz guitar, and strong harmonies; sticker text likens it to the Zombies “Odyssey & Oracle”… not sure I hear that, but it’s an excellent album to be sure. Includes Kissing Spell’s up-tempo track 'Yellow Moon', which was on Latin American "Love Peace and Poetry" compilation; most tracks in English, with a couple of exceptions. LP $22 SKU:16428

MOTHS- ST ( UK underground hippie acid-folk 1970) -Label:GUERSSEN RECORDS (SPAIN) UK underground hippie acid-folk from 1970, originally released as a micro-pressing of less than 30 copies on the collectable Deroy custom label. Mellow atmosphere with acoustic guitars, flute, bongos, bass and refreshing, sincere vocals. A few self-penned tracks plus some amazing & haunting covers of people like Incredible String Band, David Ackles, Dylan, Tim Buckley, Bert Jansch. Rated with the maximum rarity on Hans Pokora’s “3001 Record Collecting Dreams”. Remastered sound, insert with liner notes and photos. New cover design (the original album came in a plain white sleeve). “…Enchanting atmosphere and fragrant mellow vibes. Soft vocals, vivid earthy use of bongoes, and haunting flutes possess the LP in its entirety. The vocals throughout are subdued, laid-back beyond mellow...folk lost in a sleepy haze, for the beach on a warm summer's night...comforting diffused light hazily pulls the listener into dreamscapes where flutes softly cut swathes through mists with doleful but captivating sounds, crystalline clarity of sound...One of the rarest, obscurest UK releases” – Stephen Smith (Progressive Music) LP $27 SKU:16280

REDONDOS - Full Circle With - ( glossy Inlay w/pic and liners. 300 copies only ) Label:BREAK-A-WAY 10 track collection by pre United Travel Service Band; Painstakingly remastered at KSL; Incl. unreleased originals; Great LP sized full glossy Inlay w/pic and liners. 300 copies only
Limited, vinyl-only release for collectors and connoisseurs of vintage garage music and offers a valuable insight into the history of one of the most exciting Pacific Northwest psychedelic Bands - The United Travel Service. Founded in Portland, Oregon, three members of UTS took their first musical steps in the Redondos. Like their successors, the band left a large number of unreleased recordings dating from 1965. Influenced by early sixties Surf and inspired by the British Invasion, the Redondos created a unique sound belting out an amazing mix of storming Surf tunes, Rock ‘n’ Roll standards, and moody originals, written by lead guitarist Ben Hoff. The innocent charm of their Beau Brummels type edgy folkbeat already reflects the magic and authenticity of the later United Travel Service material and sets The Redondos apart from the typical mid-sixties regional Northwest Sound of the time. The Redondos never released any records, but after a serious run through their musical legacy, we have sorted out and remastered their best tracks to a great blend of enjoyable covers and stand-out originals sounding like a rockin' Bobby Fuller Four is meeting the moody beat of the Beau Brummels. For the group, these recordings reflect a special moment in time after a gap of nearly fifty years. LP $18 SKU:15156

REINHOLD MOLITOR- ST - (Mexican psych ) SAALE - Label:VAM Official reissue of this ultra-rare album (Discos Zave LPL 163, 1969). Globe-trotting artist Bodo Molitor may have been born in Germany, but he’ll forever be associated with the psychedelic scene in Mexico and South America. In addition to creating the zoomorphic art for his own bizarre album, “Hits Internacionales,” he also created the psychedelic art for the Kaleidoscope album, for La Libre Expresion, and for his brother Reinhold’s solo album. He had this to say about the Reinhold record: “My Brother Reinhold came for a visit from Germany where he was playing with several bands. He was only 19. I knew Edghar Zamudio (from Peru) and one day he asked us to record that LP. Just acoustic—guitars and a banjo played brilliantly by my brother. I think we recorded the whole album in three or four days. I played some guitars and did some vocals as well. It’s folky and bluesy with originals some covers and traditionals. My brother sings and plays guitar and banjo, on some of the songs he wrote.” The Reinhold album is so rare, even with the connection to his more famous artist brother, no one seems to have discovered it… until now. Despite being from the end of the 1960's, Reinhold has more of an early-60's NYC Greenwich Village Cafe Wha?-ish folk underpinning. The best tracks have gravel-pated vocals in a vaguely Tom Waits/Joseph Spence sort of vein—really syrupy and quite excellent. Overall, a dark and morose vibe dominates; and we can all use some minor key laments, now and then, right? Limited editions (both formats) of only 500 copies, and available exclusively via Lion Productions and our friends. LP $19 SKU:15257

ROTOMAGUS - The Sky Turns Red: Complete Anthology 1971 DOUBLE LP proto punk w heavy duty gatefold jacket, & extras - SAALE Label:LION Proto punk w heavy duty gatefold jacket, which has the entirety of the Seth Man’s article on the band, plus the band’s history in both English and French. On Julian Cope’s excellent Head Heritage web-site, the Seth Man raves about Rotomagus thus: “The first time I heard this track (‘Fighting Cock’), I did not freak out. I merely walked into a nearby closet and screamed my head off for a minute solid, beat the floor and ripped my t-shirt... then I cowered when it hit me: this thing came out in 1971? Before “Raw Power”?! I just lost my mind... Hard to believe this is all pre-1971, as much of the demo is not just proto punk but proto hardc*re LP $32 SKU:14510

SEA-DERS - ANTHOLOGY ( 60s Lebanese Rock ) Booklet contains liner notes by Mike Stax -Label:GROOVIE Contains all known grooving and infectious Middle Eastern inflected rock/beat tracks from the Sea-ders (or Cedars, depending on which 45 label you look at), Lebanon's top musical export to the world. Eight dynamic tracks, with driving rhythms, blazing electric bouzouki (or oud?), recorded between 1966-1968. Fantastic! Many groups have used elements of Eastern music to add mystery and exotica to their sound; the Sea-ders didn't flirt with foreign culture—they tapped right into the source. Decca Records contacted the group and offered them a record deal in the UK. Well, that didn't pan out, making the band's EP a very rare item indeed, despite being one of the most exciting releases of the era. Faced with studio bills from Decca, they sold their instruments and equipment and moved back to Beirut, leaving this perfect microcosm of exotic '60s pop in their wake. Liner notes by Mike Stax (Ugly Things Magazine). Limited pressing of only 500 copies. This time around, vinyl is mastered at 45 RPM, for maximum fidelity. The Sea-ders would only record eight tracks, but what amazing tracks they are! LP $13 SKU:8849
