INDEX REISSUE! Available again

INDEX - Originals Vol. 1 (1967-68( the holy grail of psych!)Label:LION All of the original compositions from the band's two self-released holy grails of psychedelia (the Black Album and the Red Album, from 1967-68) combined into one collection—all newly transferred from the original tapes!

Most of you have no doubt heard of records that have been touted as “mind blowing”, “fuzz monsters”, or “lost/undiscovered classics”. The raves rarely turn out to be justified. That's certainly not the case with the music of Index—if anything, the raves underplay the essence of the band's music, which is seething with cavernous reverb, snaky guitar lines, and downer lyrics. It is fantastically minimalist, starkly atmospheric, and sprinkled with ferocious guitar work.

In the mid 1960’s, Detroit Michigan was a thriving industrial city. But the great ethnic diversity in the inner city was a brewing powder keg of civil unrest. This, coupled with a disillusioned population struggling to make some sense of a questionable war in the rice paddies of Viet Nam, set an uneasy and troubling tempo for the future. Still, there were pockets of communities in the Detroit area where things were good and economic life was vibrant. The Grosse Pointes were such communities. It was on the outskirts of this political and racially tense era, in those affluent suburbs just outside Detroit, that Index was formed.

The music of Index has been lauded by (and bootlegged by) music heads for decades, and with good reason: it is unexpected, atmospheric, and "home-made" in the best of all possible ways. The band has a druggie sound, with songs full of feedback and fuzzy guitars, hazy guitar riffs and loud pushy rhythms. And in there amongst the echoing canyons of sound you'll find some snotty post-punk attitude wrapped up in all that trippy velvet fuzz. It's a wonderful bleak sound, droning and murky and introspective—the atonal side of late 1960's rock that would leave the most lasting impression on those who would eventually become punk, post-punk and indie rock... you know, artists like Joy Division or the Fall or Felt to name three out of a thousand.

Includes a 4-panel color insert, written by Index drummer Jim Valice, detailing the band's rock and roll adventures, replete with rare photos. LP $24 SKU:19862

CREATION FACTORY - Swirling Sight Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE “Swirling Sight” b/w “Sunflower” With a promise of mind-melting kaleidoscopic visions, “Swirling Sight” launches its phase-a-delic trip instantaneously, pulling you into The Creation Factory’s most glorious slice of sixties-style psych-pop ever pressed to vinyl. A roiling, driving beat gives denizens of the dance floor (and the DJs who inspire them) the chance to groove with delirious lysergic abandon. A sitar-laden psychedelic soundscape that evokes The Beatles’ “Flying” boosted supersonically to the edge of space, “Sunflower” blooms beautifully in a scintillating cycle of deep, droney, organic intensity. 45 RPM $10 SKU:21480

HIGHER STATE - In The Morning (psych-folk spirit of ’66 )Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE “In The Morning I Will Roam” b/w “Winter Is Blue” The psych-folk spirit of ’66 comes jangling through the mists of time with the profound sounds and imagery of “In The Morning I Will Roam”, transporting those who listen intently into the pensive, rustic realm of classic British troubadours, from Donovan Leitch to Vashti Bunyan “Winter Is Blue” is, in fact, one of Vashti’s own early classics, transformed into a perfect complement to the A-side by The Higher State’s visionary take on her obscure contribution to 1968’s “Tonite Let’s All Make Love In London” soundtrack. 45 RPM $10 SKU:21478

MAD WALLS- It Turns (Floydian sounds drifting within a stream of dreamy psych).
Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE MAD WALLS- It Turns “It Turns” b/w “Eternal Light” Curated to complement each other, the songs on this single are among the trippiest yet from The Mad Walls. “It Turns” arrives like an echo from the past broadcast from the future, with early Floydian sounds and sentiments drifting within a stream of dreamy psych.“Eternal Light” gallops with muted hooves through a fever dream of dense butterscotch brilliance, an Edwardian ghost swirling alongside holding a spliff the size of a torch, illuminating facets of strange, undulating gems along the path. 45 RPM $10 SKU:21479

TRIPTIDES-Nirvana Now (sun-drenched psych)-Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE “Nirvana Now” b/w “She Is Dressed In Red” An ecstatic reflection on a dream shared by “all who were there”, the paean to enlightenment encapsulated by “Nirvana Now” takes Triptides’ sun-drenched psychedelia to new glorious new heights. Awash in aural delights emanating from a Wurlitzer electric piano along with Epiphone Casino and fuzz guitars, the song has all a seeker of psyched-out bliss could ask for. Shimmering with dronalicious sitar, Farfisa organ, 12-string guitar and Beatle bass, “She Is Dressed In Red” is the perfect marigold comedown after spinning the A-side at maximum volume. 45 RPM $10 SKU:21476

TURNS - Doorman (timeless essence of West Coast psych)Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE “Doorman” b/w “Just Like You” Doorman” is the opening salvo in a new direction in The Turns’ sound, with soulful vocals and a slow, powerful build that soars with the psychedelic splendor of bands like The Buffalo Springfield, The Jefferson Airplane and Love. The timeless essence of West Coast psychedelia is encapsulated in the lovely groove of “Just Like You,” which blossoms in the mind like memories of sunny summer afternoons spent lazing on paisley picnic blankets. 45 RPM $10 SKU:21477

PSYCHOTIC YOUTH - The VOice of Summer (legendary power-pop-surf-punk heroes) - Label:WATERSLIDE/TARGET EARTH Psychotic Youth delivers real POWER-pop, indeed, with the word POWER written in capital letters. Putting together the essential ingredients of The Ramones, Plimsouls and Ohio Express, the 6t's and the 7t's, rock'n'roll, bubblegum, punk and pop, these guys create their very own sound, which has influenced so many bands ever since the day they first climbed a stage. CD $12 SKU:21470

PSYCHOTIC YOUTH - 21 WITH OBI STRIP (legendary power-pop-surf-punk heroes - Label:WATERSLIDE/TARGET EARTH “After an 18-year gap between the band's classic LP Stereoids and the triumphant comeback The Voice of Summer, we only had to wait two years for 21. And this album is everything you would expect from Psychotic Youth. It's a whole lot of power pop, a little bit of garage, a little bit of punk, and a little bit of surf. The harmonies are to die for, and as always Jörgen absolutely excels at writing about matters of the heart. He will devastate you with his songs about loss, longing, and relationships gone sour - and then turn around and write something like "You're The One" that reminds us of why we bother to endure all of that heartbreak in the first place. I always have to chuckle when people criticize pop-punk or power pop bands for writing love songs and not tackling more "important" topics. Seriously? The quest for love has defined our species and its art for thousands of years. What could be more important than that?! I think we become even more aware of this as we get older, which explains why Jörgen is writing some of his most powerful material in his 50s. 21 is the work of a songwriter and band that are aging like fine wine (I know: a terrible music reviewer cliche, but still undeniably true!). I would honestly put this album up there with anything Psychotic Youth has ever done. It has everything from snappy punky pop ("Nr 1 In My Heart") to Ramones inspired goodness ("Wither Up and Die") to tear-out-your-heart balladry ("If Not For You") to vintage Psychotic Youth wall of guitar power pop ("Dreams"). Jörgen Westman belongs to the masters class of power pop songwriting, and it is a treat to hear him still at the top of his game. Do not miss the CD bonus track cover of Marshall Crenshaw's "Cynical Girl" - a tip of the cap to an obvious influence! CD $12 SKU:21471

SPOT - ST (rare 1971 Swiss heavy rock album in the Deep Purple/Taste/Led Zeppelin style.) -Label:Ohrwaschl Reissue of rare 1971 Swiss heavy rock album in the Deep Purple/Taste/Led Zeppelin style. Features two bonus tracks. Digipack. Spot's single, eponymous album was released in 1972 and is one of Switzerland's rarest collector's items from the 1970s.Part of its mystique comes from the fact that its only availability outside the relatively few copies of the LP in existence was on a bootleg vinyl release CD $15 SKU:21469

SUBJECT ESQ.- LOST TAPES (1972 fusion prog rock)- Label:Ohrwaschl Complex progressive rock with fusion elements, showing classical influences, and demonstrating superb musicianship throughout. Comparable to many other bands of the era, like Thirsty Moon, Camel, etc.—in fact, they have a similar degree of complexity and inventiveness (multi-tracked sax and guitars, and so on) to many bands from the Canterbury scene. Subject Esq. had unique touches of their own, with an unusual use of vocals, time signatures, and a wide range of solo instruments, all of which are given plenty of room in the lengthy instrumental sections. An odd major label album, so perhaps it’s no surprise that they left CBS to record their more esoteric Sahara albumsCD $15 SKU:21475

ABUELO , MIGUEL & NADA -ST (A stunning blend of psychedelia, hard-rock and prog-folk ) MIGUEL ABUELO, the legendary Argentinean rock pioneer. Recorded and released only in France in 1975, featuring some top Argentinean musicians such as killer guitar player DANIEL SBARRA. Original artwork in gatefold sleeve and insert with lyrics, rare photos and liner notes by Daniel Sbarra. Miguel Ángel Peralta aka Miguel Abuelo was a musician, poet and singer from Buenos Aires, Argentine. During the Sixties, he was the leader of early psychedelic band Los Abuelos de la Nada, who released a highly sought-after 45 in 1968. In the early 70s, Miguel, a free spirit, left Argentina for Europe and he ended up busking in Paris. There, he formed a band called NADA featuring guitar player Daniel Sbarra and other expat Argentinean musicians. Supported by their producer, Moshé Naïm, who was fascinated with Miguel’s personality and voice, they registered in France their only album, recorded circa 1973 but actually released in 1975 on Moshé’s own label, just when the band had decided to part ways. Housed in a beautiful gatefold cover depicting Miguel in full hippie-fashion along with his little child Gato Azul, “Miguel Abuelo & Nada” is simply one of the best Argentinean rock albums ever recorded. Miguel and Daniel managed to create a very unique sound, powerful yet delicate, highlighted by Miguel's hearfelt vocals (sometimes treated as just another instrument), outstanding guitar playing by Daniel (listen to him doing one of the early known examples of proto-metal tapping on 'Tirando piedras al río'), well crafted songs and deep, poetic lyrics. The album was recorded at a state-of-the-art studio located in the countryside and was carefully produced: electric & acoustic guitars, bass, drums, flute, keyboards (including Moog), cello, violin… "Miguel Abuelo & Nada" is now widely regarded worldwide as a legendary, cult album and we're thrilled to present a top-notch vinyl reissue. LP $24 SKU:21486

ARGUS - ST (UK Progressive & Hard-Rock underground, 1973-1975!)Label:SOMMER Argus were an obscure British outfit with connections to Rare Amber and Julian’s Treatment. Their sound was hard-hitting bluesy hard-rock, similar to Hackensack or Killing Floor. In 1973, they recorded a five-track demo with the intention of securing a record deal which sadly never arrived. It is included here along with a few live tracks from post-Argus underground psych-prog outfit Anaconda. First time on vinyl. Extensive band history by Pete Sarfas of Audio Archives. LP $24 SKU:21482

GALACTIC EXPLORERS-Epitaph for Venus- (1974 Kraut psych)Label:MENTAL EXPERIENCE Another shrouded in mystery album from the Pyramid label, produced by Toby Robinson in Cologne circa 1974. Kosmische and Head sounds with plenty of Minimoog, analogue synths / keyboards, effects, loops, tape manipulation, treated percussions, etc., courtesy of Galactic Explorers, an electronic, minimal, ambient krautrock trio featuring Reinhard Karwatky (Dzyan). Take a trip to the inner regions of your mind, see ancient solar systems forming and listen to cosmic winds and vibrations while sine waves of pure bliss will give you total peace of mind. *24-bit domain remaster from the original tapes. *Insert with liner notes by Alan Freeman (The Crack In The Cosmic Egg) RIYL: TERRY RILEY, POPOL VUH, SAND, PETER MICHAEL HAMEL, TANGERINE DREAM, BABA YAGA, CLUSTER, COZMIC CORRIDORS, BRAINTICKET… “Mysterious and enigmatic to the end. ‘Sehr Kosmische’ as they say!” – Alan Freeman (Ultima Thule, The Crack In The Cosmic Egg). LP $24 SKU:21485

SECOND SIGN (Mid-70s UK hard/progressive/psych)Label:SOMMER Mid-70s UK hard/progressive/psychedelic band in the vein of Narnia, Saturnalia or Fruupp with connections to doom outfit Warlord. THREE-HEADED DOG- Hound of Hades-- (underground hard-rock 1973)Label:SOMMER A mysterious three-piece from Birmingham, Three-Headed Dog played underground hard-rock, clearly influenced by early Judas Priest and Wishbone Ash. Before disappearing in the mist of time, they left behind an ultra rare demo tape - recorded in 1973 - which included a couple of cover versions from Wild Turkey and Edgar Broughton Band along with self-penned material. This demo was handled to Norman Hood, manager of other Brum bands such as Necromandus and Flying Hat Band, who was involved in promoting Three-Headed Dog at the time. First time on vinyl. New liner notes by Pete Sarfas of Audio Archives. LP $24 SKU:21483

OLIVERS - I Saw What You d Did (60s garade-Label:BREAK A WAY BW BEEKER ST. Single Release with original Picture Sleeve: "The Olivers, from Fort Wayne, Indiana evolved out of the Serfmen, a very popular band in the region, that had already released two nowadays rare 45's on their own Nemfres label. When the Serfmen signed with Dino Enterprises, an Indianabased agency in 1966, original member Greg Church left the band and was replaced by Billy Franze from another local group, The Unexpected. The Band then moved in a more British invasion direction for their music and outfit and changed name to "The Olivers". The line-up at the time consisted of Jay Penndorf (guitar, vocals), Chuck Hamrick (drums), Carl Aldrich (keyboards, vocals) and Billy Franze (bass, vocals). The group's sole 7" release, 'I Saw What You Did' b/w 'Beeker Street' was recorded at Cap Studios in Portage, MI and was released with a Picture Sleeve later that year on the local Phalanx Label. The single got picked up by RCA Records for nationwide release and is rated today as one of the best and most exciting double sided major label garage 45s of the 1960s. ACID KING-MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, CENTER OF EVERYWHERE (STONER ROCK)-Label:SVART DIGIPACK RELEASE. ACID KING returns to its throne with the 2015 full-length 'Middle Of Nowhere, Center Of Everywhere'. On this their fourth outing, the three-piece maintains the corrosive concoction at the heart of their identity, while simultaneously progressing. This unholy triumvirate of visionary, vocalist, and guitarist Lori S, drummer Joey Osbourne, and bassist Mark Lamb existed before terms like "stoner rock" and "doom metal" entered the musical lexicon. CD $14 SKU:18909

AKA-CRAZY JOE(Indonesian '70s heavy psych rock)Label:GRANADILLA MUSIC A CD-reissue of the third LP from the leading Indonesian '70s rockband. Compared to their previous output this '72 collection there are some new and surprising changes of direction. These are showcased by the powerful funk rock of the opening title track, the dirty garage beat of 'Skip Away' and 'Raja Jalan', and various up tempo soul-pop tunes. And, of course, we also hear moments of Indo balladry and tinges of soft rock. Fans of exotic pop à la Baris Manco, soft rock in the vein of late '60s-mid '70s Hollies and the emotional Eastern German pop/rock of Karat and Die Puhdys will love this utterly beautiful record. CD $12 SKU:20861

BLAAK HEAT -SHIFTING MIRRORS (avant-garde psych-rock trio.)-Label:SVART BLAAK HEAT is a Parisian-American avant-garde psych-rock trio. Previously known as 'Blaak Heat Shujaa', the band has become more primal and more indigenous. Also notable is that the Eastern influence is expanded by incoorperating more traditional instruments and due to the contributions from percussionist Nelson Bragg (The Brian Wilson Group). The result is a timeless, vivid blend of thundering psychedelic rock and Arabian tonalities, an altar to heavy riffage, mind expansion and social insurgencies CD $14 SKU:20654

BORN LOSERS- CYCLE GUITARS (Davie Allen style)-Label:MEAN DISPOSITION In these times of copious record releases, it was sort of strange that the Born Losers -a popular and already veteran band, with three excellent and successful singles under their belt- had still not waxed an album. It was not a matter of indolence, since their members were involved in all sorts of side projects, and their first LP confirms that the Losers were getting ripe for top-rank R'n'R. The results are exceptional indeed. Far from their early influences -namely, the sound of Davie Allan & The Arrows-, the band retains its peculiar sixties flavour, but their references have increased. The clear Arrows influence from their beginnings has now been replaced by ideas from the Challengers or the sound of the Ventures in their late Dolton records/early Liberty waxings: raw R'n'R, allied with pop melodies, jazzy touches and film music, without ever falling into corniness. The Born Losers are emerging as clear winners with this latest offering. CD $8 SKU:20655

BREAKOUT -70A (1970 Polish psych-blues legends)Label:MUZA On CD, presented in a digipack, this is the classic 1970 full-length by Polish psych-blues legends Breakout CD $14 SKU:19969

BURNSEER-ST (U.S. garage pop RAmones style)Label:GREEN MONKEY Burnseer is an American rock band based in the Pacific Northwest. Burnseer is Frankie G, guitar and singing, formerly of Rocket Surgery with Jack Endino, Norman Scott on the drums (Skin Yard, Gruntruck, Capping Day) and bassist Eric Norberg. Burnseer is a band that has mass and density. It is Dinosaur Jr vs. The Ramones for 15 rounds. What you may not expect is the NYC pop sensibility that Frankie brings to the band. It is as if PJ Harvey and Patti Smith had a love child. In addition to the core band, the mighty Fastbacks guitarist Kurt Bloch provided additional notes to several songs. Good notes! 'Burnseer' was recorded by Mr. Conrad Uno (Mudhoney, PUSA, millions more) at Egg Studios and subsequently mastered by Mr. Bloch. So whatcha got? Tightly arranged modern Seattle rock that appeals to both garage and pop fans alike, young and old, hell, everybody. This album is contagious and will draw you from the very first song. CD $14 SKU:20952

CODE BLUE ST (DELUXE great new wave/power pop 1980)- Label:WOUNDED BIRD Code Blue was a great new wave/power pop album that was released in 1980. This American rock trio's biggest claim to fame was the song "Whisper/Touch" from the "Pretty In Pink" soundtrack. Originally released on vinyl in 1980 with 11 tracks, this 24 track disc was previously only available as a Rhino/Handmade limited edition CD. CD $14 SKU:20360

LESLIE’S MOTEL - Dirty Streets ( 1970 Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers style) Label:GEAR FAB 8th installment of the Louisville Music Series. The unreleased 1970 concept album "Dirty Sheets" by Leslie's Motel, featuring Blues Project/Seatrain drummer Roy Blumenfeld. Great sound in the same vein as the Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers!! CD $10 SKU:19300

SANDY SALISBURY -Everything is For You (UNREL POP GEMS)-Label:HIDDEN VISION RECORDS (USA) Graham “Sandy” Salisbury was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Hawaii. He was a songwriter and musician in the late 1960s, and is best known for his association with Curt Boettcher. He was a member of Boettcher’s groups The Millennium and Sagittarius, as well as an earlier group called The Ballroom, before attempting a solo career of his own (with Boettcher producing) as an artist on Gary Usher’s Together Records label.Everything For You is an album of demos recorded by Salisbury with the intention of passing them on to other artists/. Unfortunately this didn’t happen and the songs contained here save for three tracks (So Close To Heaven, Candy Kisses and Here Comes That Feeling) remained unreleased for many years until they were eventually collected together and released under the title Everything For You in 2004. For anyone interested in great pop music the music of Sandy Salisbury will be an absolute delight with this album being a treasure trove of unreleased gems. CD $8 SKU:19063

EMBER POP 69-74- VA Rainy Day Mind ( 60s ) -Label:FANTASTIC VOYAGE Rainy Day Mind” is the first of two volumes surveying Ember’s pop repertoire from 1969 until the label’s demise at the end of the seventies. It comprises 21 tracks by artists ranging from obscure American singer Polly Niles to the internationally famous P J Proby, as well as ill-fated actor Alan Lake, Irish vocalist Lee Lynch, French pop star Black Swan and fuzz guitar-toting soul band Milt Matthews Inc. A clutch of projects including The Good Vibrations, The Good Ship Lollipop and Rusty Harness came to Ember courtesy of producer Mike Berry. The founding of US outlet Paramount-Ember in 1974, headed by music business veteran John Madara, brought albums by Denny Doherty (formerly of The Mamas And The Papas) and British all-girl glam rockers Mother Trucker into the fold. What these disparate sources all offer are fine performances of strong songs. ONE OF HOURS-When You Hear The Music, It’s Yours-(late ‘60s US Pepperish U.S garage psych)-Label:OUT-SIDER Cool late ‘60s US Pepperish psychedelia with inventive arrangements, fuzz guitars, studio effects…Recorded in 1967-68 but shelved at the time. Famous for their “Psychedelic Illusion” 45, US garage-psych band ONE OF HOURS formed in Lexington, KY, in 1966. After adding guitar player Bob Willcutt to their line-up, they released their second 45, “Feel the Pain" / “Psychedelic Illusion”, in 1967. Work then began on an album of a complete but varied musical experience called "When You Hear the Music, It's Yours".Fuelled by the creative force of band member Shawn Foreman (a true visionary who would create the cult electro / disco project Transistor-Jet in the 80s), the group (now called Dandelion Wine) entered Chetwyd Studios where they, in true psychedelic mode, experimented and used unusual techniques like backwards recording, paper under piano strings, singing through a comb, interconnecting Fuzz boxes, etc. The finished master tape containing 12 songs with titles like “Two Heads For 25 Cents”, “Sweet Dragonfly” or “Incense C-19X” was sent to the Liberty label with the promise of an album contract for 1968…but the deal never came through and the master tape was destroyed in a warehouse fire. Luckily, Bob Willcutt kept a first generation copy of the master with perfect sound which we present here in a deluxe vinyl edition, housed in a silver mirrored die-cut sleeve. File next to West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band and the like!*Insert with liner notes and photos.*Digital download card included LP $28 SKU:20958
