MONDO DRAG- Occultation of Light -Label:RIDING EASY CD $10 SKU:17445

CHARLATANS -Limit of the Marvelous 180-GRAM COLOURED VINYL and the sleeve features rare pix. Label:BIG BEAT Iconic quintet The Charlatans are widely acknowledged with kickstarting San Francisco's 1960s renaissance. 'The Limit Of The Marvelous' distils the best cuts from Big Beat's 'Amazing Charlatans' CD. LP $22 SKU:17446

MONDO DRAG- Occultation of Light (psych ) ORANGE-Label:RIDING EASY Most of The Occultation of Light was recorded live, tracked and mixed on analog tape by Phil Manley (Trans Am, The Fucking Champs) at El Studio in San Francisco. Mondo Drag had just come off the road after a month out with labelmates Electric Citizen and Slow Season, and their stage-honed, hard-won chemistry bleeds into every second of the record. Songs are warm, psychedelic and grooving, but have a poise born out of classic prog as well. LP $16 SKU:17444

BEAT FROM BADSVILLE- Vol. 3- Trash Classics from Lux & Ivy's Vinyl Mountain -Label:STAG-O-LEE (GERMANY) Brought up on the radio shows of such legendary rock 'n' roll DJs as the moondogging Alan Freed, Mad Daddy, and, later, the ghostly Ghoulardi, it was hardly surprising that The Cramps' Lux Interior and Poison Ivy began trawling thrift stores for juvenile delinquent tunes, lip-curling bad boy rock 'n' roll, strange exotica, bizarre novelty 45s, dysfunctional doo-wop, psychedelic weirdness, and instrumentals made by madmen. In America in the 1950s and 1960s there seemed to be small-town versions of such vinyl madness everywhere that, by 1970s, were remaindered and -- to the majority of people -- unwanted. To the fledgling Cramps this was nothing short of heaven. The duo filled their house with novelty memorabilia, schlock horror furniture, and a record collection to die for. Lux eventually gravitated to his own Purple Knif radio show and The Cramps delivered their versions of some of the stuff they'd found. The duo name-checked many a 45 along the way and seeking them out and sampling their eccentricities is nothing short of mind-blowing. This 24-track collection positively effervesces with eccentricity. As with every installment in the series, these tracks are divided into four themes: Life's a Scream, Crazy Guys, Food, Prison and a Guide to the Female Persuasion, Welcome to the Jungle, and Wild and Wilder Boppin' Girls. Every track pirouettes dangerously and at times haphazardly around the expected. These are songs for strange times by artists who can definitely be considered strange people. Gems and nuggets that sparkle even more bright in the manufactured music maelstrom of the 21st century. The population of Badsville welcomes you aboard. Includes tracks by Bunker Hill, Ralph Nielsen, Ron Thompson & His Rowdy Guitar and The Brougham's, Vince Taylor & Ses Play-Boys, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Lord Luther and The King's Men, Teddy Rich and the Rockets, Fabian, The Moroccos, Richard Berry and Group, Jimmy Witter and the Shadows, Charlie Baker, Buddy Bow, Glenn Reeves, The Playboys, Jape Richards and the Echoes, The Loafers, The Charts, The Bobbettes, Wanda Jackson, Annette, Sparkle Moore, Stormy Gayle, and The Storey Sisters. WHITE LIGHT - Parable (scarce high-powered bluesy garage/psych ‘74)-Label:SOMMER Super scarce high-powered bluesy garage/psych hard-rock beast, packed to the gills with cheesy organ, jubilant fuzz guitar, and frenzied drumming”. – Ken Scott (The Archivist
First ever reissue of this ultra-obscure private pressing (as featured in the last Hans Pokora’s “7001 Record Collector Dreams” book with the maximum scale rarity). Done under license from the band members. Insert with liner notes and photos.
Formed in Glasgow in the early 70s, White Light were not an ordinary Xian rock band: influenced by the explosive sound of The Who, the hard blues of John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers and even Black Sabbath, their live performances across the country featured heavy rock sounds, feedback howling round, phased lighting effects and commitment to the real enjoyment of Rock Music. They weren’t formed to play in churches – but to take The Message to the rock generation in loud clubs, halls and big rock venues. In 1972, they were finalists in a national rock competition organized by Melody Maker magazine. This event encouraged the band to enter the studio for the recording of their first album. “Parable” was released as a private pressing in 1974. Housed in a mysterious looking cover, the music is Xian hard psych straight from the garage with lot of raw fuzz guitar and Vox Continental organ.Combining hard-rock with heavy blues and dreamy moments, it features the monster sidelong track “Prodigal”, which has to be heard to be believed. LOVE,PEACE & POETRY- JAPANESE Psychedelic Music ( DELUXE FULL COLOR GATEFOLD SLV.) -Label:QDK GERMANY 2014 restock. LP version in deluxe full color gatefold sleeve. "Japanese psychedelic music of the 1960s & 1970s is very heavily invested in a hard rock aesthetic and much of what we've chosen to include here features some phenomenal over the top electric guitar excess. Many Japanese records from this period are either very heavy psychedelic rock, or they are very experimental and avant garde with little in the way of classic UK & US Sixties 'underground' psychedelia to be found. Unlike most compilations which focus on rare singles tracks, the Love, Peace & Poetry series collects tracks from the world's rarest and most obscure psychedelic albums believing that, no matter how passionate a music fan you might be, you shouldn't be too surprised to find that you may have missed at least a few things along the way.." -- Stan Denski. Artists included: The Mops, Yuya Uchida/Flowers, The Happenings Four, Foodbrain, Apryl Fool (Haruomi Hosono), Speed, Glue & Shinki, Blues Creation, Shinki Chen & Friends, The Jacks, Tokedashita Garasubako, Justin Heathcliff, Masahiko Sato & Sound Breakers, Kuni Kawachi & His Friends, The Beavers. LOVE,PEACE & POETRY- MEXICAN Psych Music ( DELUXE FULL COLOR GATEFOLD SLV.) - Label:QDK GERMANY 014 restock. LP version, full color gategold sleeve. "The economic prosperity that fueled the Baby Boom generation in the United States didn't exist for Mexican youth, nor was Mexico as racially volatile or sexually repressed. In the 1950's the culture of the United States was far more shook up by Elvis and his gyrating army than was Mexico. Rock and roll became dangerous in Mexico when it began to be mixed with a challenge to the political status quo. Tracks from rare LPs by The Flying Karpets, Grupo Ciruela, Los Ovnis, La Onda De Survival, and Nahuatl help complete our tour through the various climates of 1960s-1970s Mexican psychedelia, and readily demonstrate the origins of a musical culture that continues on into contemporary times in the many bands that make up the active Mexican music scene here in the new century." MARIJUANA UNKNOWNS 60s STONER songs about pot!) -Label:STONED RECORDS Marijuana Unknowns is a good idea—a comp full of tracks about pot. Marijuana Unknowns contains a variety of styles, and many of the tracks are late-sixties psych, but about half of them are really just songs that indulge stoner lyrics. The best track on this comp is "Mary Mary" by the Birdwatchers, which sings the praises of pot but with a haunting melody that hints at the perils of drug dependence ("Mary Mary, it's to you that I belong"). COMP LP $14 SKU:15536

MARY JANE - Original Soundtrack 180 gram ( quintessential '60s period piece) Label:REEL TIME 180 gram vinyl reissue. Its soundtrack is a quintessential '60s period piece, with fuzz guitar, bongos, flute, vibes, and more. COMP LP $16 SKU:13935

BLONDIE - DOUBLE LP -THE OLD WALDORF SF CA,21ST SEPTEMBER 1977-Label:ROX VOX Less than a year after the release of their debut-album, Blondie reachinged its peak as a pop-punk act. At these two '77 shows the band played almost everything from that self-titled debut LP as well as previewing most of their follow-up, 1978's 'Plastic Letters'. The performance, broadcast on KSAN-FM, also includes surprise covers of songs by the Rolling Stones, Yardbirds, Runaways, Doors and Iggy Pop that did not make their studio releases. LP $31 SKU:16794

LITTLE FREE ROCK- Nirvanating Nervesounds w insert and liners(classic 60s heavy PSYCH rock) - Label:SOMMOR Psychedelic hard-rock featuring the explosive fuzz-wah guitar of Peter Illingworth. Little Free Rock were an underground British power-trio which evolved from heavy-mod-psych band Purple Haze. In 1969, the band released their only album for the Transatlantic label. “Nirvanating Nervesounds” collects previously unreleased sessions for an aborted Little Free Rock second album from 1971, produced by Robert Stigwood, plus tracks from their early incarnation as Purple Haze, taken from an ultra-rare demo acetate from 1969. The ’71 tracks were recorded when the band had just incorporated an African percussionist to their line-up, “Lord” Eric Carboo; also, ex-Killing Floor bass player John Taylor had replaced original member Frank Newbold. This new line-up shines on tracks like the terrific psych-funk sounding “Money On Your Mind”, full of drum breaks and frenzied wah-wah guitar. The 1969 recordings are taken from the only known copy of a demo acetate recorded in 1969, when the band had just changed their name from Purple Haze to Little Free Rock. Featuring some songs which were later re-recorded and included on the Little Free Rock Transatlantic album but appearing here in a superior, raw-sounding form. For many people, the recordings included here are the best thing Little Free Rock ever did and show how their first album should’ve really sounded. Most of these tracks were previously released on CD under the “Time is of no consequence” name but they appear here in a newly remastered, superior sounding form, most noticeable on the acetate tracks (no surface noise here this time!). Remastered sound. Four-page insert with detailed liner notes by Nigel Cross (Shagrat Records) and Klemen Breznikar (It’s Psychedelic Baby) plus rare photos LP $26 SKU:16713

LONESOME SHACK - More Primitive On ltd ed of 150 RED VINYL -Label:ALIVE “More Primitive” finds Seattle’s Lonesome Shack exploring the depths of boogie and country blues. The trio’s sound is raw and immediate with finger-picked guitar lines, soulful crooning and big danceable grooves. Ben Todd’s introspective lyrics take the American blues tradition to a new level, examining personal history, loss of friends, and a burning desire to get to the primitive core of life. Lonesome Shack was signed to Alive thanks to Van Campbell of the Black Diamond Heavies who brought them to our attention. LP $16 SKU:16379

LOONS - Inside Out Your Mind LTD ed of 150 on PURPLE VINYL - Label:BOMP With 'INSIDE OUT YOUR MIND' The Loons have created their most compelling and original album to date. LORDS OF THE NEW CHURCH - ST LTD FOIL NUMBERED EDITION OF 500 on GOLD 150 gram VINYL Label:DRASTIC PLASTIC In 1982, punk legends Stiv Bator (Dead Boys), Brian James (The Damned), Dave Tregunna (Sham 69), and Nick Turner (The Barracudas) formed the supergroup The Lords of the New Church. Their debut, self-titled LP incorporated their punk roots while transitioning into a more polished gothic style with catchy hooks. Along with it came their new image of leather-vested vigilantes with dark lyrics musing from religion to politics. This album helped to usher in a new era of post-punk rock in the early ‘80s and Drastic Plastic Records is thrilled to present it sounding better than ever. LP $25 SKU:16207

LYRES- Live At Cantones, Boston 1982 - Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) This is a great rock & roll recording of early Lyres material with a bit more of a DMZ edge to it. None of this material has ever been released before. LP $21 SKU:13166

LYRES- Lyres, Lyres ( 180 gram with 4 color insert ) -Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) LP version on 180 gram vinyl with 4-page color insert. Munster Records reissues the second album by legendary Boston band Lyres, originally released in 1986.. A great selection of covers and originals make Lyres' second album a fascinating example of a band at the top of their game. Sound, attitude and a way of making music that you don't see around too often. Formed in Boston in the late '70s out of the ashes of the legendary DMZ, Lyres are one of the truly essential bands of 1980s garage, and their fierce debut has been a benchmark for the genre since then. LP $21 SKU:14724

LYRES- A Promise Is a Promise (gatefold ) -Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) Gatefold LP version. Munster reissues the third Lyres LP, originally released on Ace of Hearts, from 1988. "Anyone following the career of Lyres for any length of time throughout that mid-to-late '80s period would doubtless be interested in the ongoing personnel shuffles that were taking place around this time. 'What really happened,' Jeff Conolly explains, 'is that we had to totally re-group the line-up with each LP because people instantly discovered that it was nearly impossible to go professional and maintain a living and do the kind of not-sell-out music we did at the same time. Our special Murphy drummer would leave and then re-join many, many times, and then we started getting robbed on tour a lot, and many nice things were lost to us... After the tour van got busted into in Amsterdam in May 1987 we had to get a new guitar guy to go along with our new rhythm section. At this point there was very little 'connection' with the original concept or sound of the 1979 group which had been founded on being aspiring amateur musicians.' Although one or two of USA's then modern garage-type bands were beginning to make some inroads beyond a cult-only success, particularly overseas, it was nearly always accepted as a given that playing this type of unfashionable music could only ever result in rather limited dividends, commercially speaking. But successful or otherwise, Lyres can be seen as purveyors of a rich stream of powerful music, distilled from an amalgam of influences, injected with unusual verve and vitality, and presented in a wholly authentic, provocatively different way from all other groups. Of the many startling 'Conolloid' creations, self-penned, or imaginatively reinvestigated, one wonders often how Lyres came up with such radical reinterpretations of songs such as Dave Dee and company's life-affirming piano ballad 'Here's a Heart.' 'I started buying original UK freakbeat records beginning in the early 1980s when they were still relatively affordable,' states Conolly. 'I liked that weirdo USA Fontana Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich LP that had a ton of their hits on it, and I finally realized that their recording of 'Here's a Heart' had the special charming majick. On one of our trips to Paris I crashed with Carolyn and Stiv [Bators -- ex of U.S. punks The Dead Boys] and we discovered that we were both nuts about 'Here's a Heart.' I had bought myself a nice and reasonable DDDBM&T EP souvenir that afternoon at USA Records and we played it at Carolyn's and me and Stiv sang with it a lot. We kinda agreed to record it in one way or another, and later in January 1988 Stiv was in NYC and he came down to sing it with me live for the album #3.' With any kind of success, whether musical or otherwise, there also comes with it a certain degree of pressure, and so it was no different for Conolly and Lyres. 'All of a sudden I had to figure out a 'new' kind of Lyres sound and matching style/material to go with it,' says Conolly. 'And I had to do it real fast, so I started coming up with junk that was sort of like the very expensive but cool records I had been acquiring and sort of investigating, these freakbeaty records, which accounts for our trying to sort of figure out John's Children in 1987 and 1988.'" --Lenny Helsing LP $21 SKU:14876

MAGIK MARKERS- Balf Quarry LP ( SAALE ) LP version. - Label:DRAG CITY Album-length piece of the puzzle from MAGIK MARKERS. Long known for their shattering live appearances, Magik Markers put together really hot albums too -like Balf Quarry. Working with engineer SCOTT COLBURN (Sun City Girls, Animal Collective, Sir Richard Bishop), Magik Markers have captured a lot of different moods and twitches on Balf Quarry. Tremoring mid-rhythms form the body, with a couple showers of hardcore, high flying free-duo style and several clinking music boxes of woe as well. On slower tunes, the mass of brooding guitar tone generated is ELISA's signature, a carving all of her own. Fills, licks and other touches move the songs a broken arm's length away from a fundament of chaos and horror. LP $12 SKU:9974

MAJOR STARS - Decibels of Gratitude ( ltd ed 70s style guitar psych ) SAALE -

Includes an insert with lyrics (in English & Japanese). Released at about the same time as Demon And Eleven Children, the album the beautiful Carmen Maki recorded with the band Blues Creation, this 1971 heavy rock guitar monster reminds us that ...Eleven Children isn't the only heavy album from this ensemble. Maki was probably one of the strongest voices of Japanese rock and is featured here doing her finest Grace Slick impression. Lots of brutal, non-stop wailing guitar but some mellow, bluesy psychedelic rock numbers, too. Maki went on to form her own band, Oz, but this is the collaboration for which she will be best remembered. Highly recommended. Features the original LP cover. Digitally remastered. LP $22 SKU:16173

MASON - Harbour (Smokin' heavy rock ‘71)-Label:OUT-SIDER (Spain) Smokin' heavy rock with an early progressive sound and overtones of folk and blues from Virginia, 1971. Originally released on the Eleventh Hour label, which also released Polyphony's Without Introduction (OSR 024LP, 1971). Powerful vocals, loud guitar, flute, and killer Hammond organ -- think Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Grand Funk... Master tape sound; includes repro of the original multi-page insert plus liner notes. "This is an interesting and diverse hard-rock album. If you can picture slow, organ-rich heavy prog, jazzy sax instrumentals, and snappy riff rockers, you'll have an idea of what you're in store for there. There's an air of professionalism usually absent from this kind of self-made records. 'Tell Me' has a fuzz guitar tone to die for." --Aaron Milenski, The Acid Archives

MAYER, NATHANIEL- Why Won't You Let Me Be Black ( BLUE VINYL, LIMITED to 800 ) with the BLACK KEYS - Label:ALIVE Nathaniel Mayer (1944-2008) was one of the all-time great soul singers. His 1962 record "Village of Love" made him a star, and he inspired several generations of musicians, especially in his hometown of Detroit. Nathaniel's last sessions took place during two long summer days and nights of intense jamming, writing, and recording. "Why Don't You Give It To Me?" was the first installment of these recordings to be unleashed. Now, here at last, is a second volume of Nathaniel Mayer having a blast with the assistance of members of the BLACK KEYS, SSM, OUTRAGEOUS CHERRY and the DIRTBOMBS. The two acoustic performances are from a 2007 radio interview, Nathaniel's only known "unplugged" performance. About the title: It has to do with the food he kept being served while on tour in Europe. When Nate finally became frustrated with the countless plates of cheese and French bread that awaited him backstage at every gig, he shouted "Why Won't You Let Me Be Black?". He agreed that it sounded like a good title for his next album. - Matthew Smith (Outrageous Cherry). The 1st VINYL PRESSING is on BLUE VINYL, LIMITED to 800 COPIES. LP $16 SKU:10485

Label:ALIVE Detroit Soul R&B legend Nathaniel Mayer come back album w/ members of the Black Keys, SSM, Outrageous Cherry, and the Dirtbombs. "That three successful contemporary rock'n'rollers should have sought out and championed such a lost hero is heroic in itself, and Dan Auerbach, Troy and - most especially - Matthew Smith should be praised to the skies. That the chosen artist should rise to the occasion in such a manner is even more thrilling, which is why I say to Nathaniel Mayer: 'Bravo, Lord Motherf-cker, and deep gratitude for laying this Righteous Thang upon us.' Amen" - Julian Cope LP $16 SKU:10621

Like the insect that gave them their name, the Dutch group Mayfly existed for just a short while before disappearing. In their brief lifespan, though, they recorded one truly magical and timeless album, along with a handful of singles, all beautifully crafted and imbued with beguiling atmospheres and melodies. Formed in the late 60s in the northern coastal town of Bergen, Mayfly recorded their self-titled album for Ariola in 1973, working with Wally Taxs producer Martin Duiser. First ever authorized, high quality vinyl LP reissue of Baltimore, Maryland's Maypole, whose sole album, The Real, was recorded in three days in July 1970, and released in early 1971, shortly before their label folded, dooming the album to stillborn status commercially at the time. If you've been looking for an LP to file next to your Public Nuisance and Morgen LPs, then this is your tonic. The stature of Maypole has been muddied by the previous CD reissues, but this LP edition gets it right. , This is the closest to 'classic psychedelia' Anopheles Records has delved in to date. RELATIVELY CLEAN RIVERS- ST ( 70s West Coast rural rock ) 180 gram 2014 repress SAALE -Label:PHOENIX RECORDS (UK) 2016 repress; LP version. Former Beat Of The Earth leader Phil Pearlman assembled Relatively Clean Rivers in the early '70s and eventually released this excellent rural rock album in 1975. Although Pearlman's first recorded effort was a surf/hot rod 45 entitled Chrome Reversed Rails which appeared on the Fink label in the mid-'60s, it was with Beat Of The Earth that he began to forge a distinctive musical voice. The band was one of the earliest-known experimental bands with a sound reminiscent of their East Coast counterparts, The Velvet Underground, whose influence is often discernible on Relatively Clean Rivers. That said, RCR is recognized by those fortunate enough to have heard it as one of the very finest albums of the era, with a clearly-defined American sound akin to The Grateful Dead in all their American Beauty pomp or CSNY circa Déjà Vu. An album highly recommended to anyone even remotely interested in '70s West Coast music or simply great music in general. Finally available on 180 gram vinyl once again, and comprehensively remastered using the latest 48-bit technology.
180 gram vinyl LP reissue of this all-time U.S. underground classic, originally released in 1976.
- Formed by Phil Pearlman, who led seminal experimental band Beat Of The Earth.
- "All California sunsets and country living clean, you can feel the wind in this album, in the melodies and in the guitar lines. This is Grateful Dead-esque music for people who hate the Grateful Dead (and also those who love 'em)." --Other Music LP $25 SKU:7931
