PLANETARY PEBBLES - VOL 2- EXITOS A GO GO! Label:AIP LAST COPIES of this out of print and never coming back release! Few music fans are aware that there was an enormous amount of Latin American rock bands in the 1960's who perfected the American surf and garage rock sound. The well known Pebbles series has unearthed an album's worth of obscure goodies entitled Exitos A Go Go: Teenbeat South of the Border, which contains a range of other musical genres as well (beat, psychedelia, acid rock, etc.) from such places as Chile, Uruguay, and Peru, to name a few. Some highlights include the surf-rocker "Mi Pequeno Libro Rojo" (by the band Los In), the 60's rock of "El Fanatico" (by La Tropa Loca), and the Shadows-like instrumental "El Ovni" (by Los Hitters). Also, a plodding cover of the theme from The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly can be found here, entitled "El Bueno, El Mayo, & El Feo" (by Los Ramancieros). Highly recommended, and a godsend for collectors of 60's obscurities, since many of these records were either never issued in the U.S. or long out-of-print. GREG PRATO COMP LP $15 SKU:16982

THOMPSON, MAYO- Corky's Debt To His Father LP + bonus 7"-RED KRAYOLA -Label:DRAG CITY 2013 repress. LP version with bonus 7"; one of the great Drag City releases (and one of the great American music solo albums) finally on vinyl again. "In 1970, Mayo Thompson (once-and-future leader of The Red Krayola) recorded an album entitled Corky's Debt To His Father. Walt Andrus' Texas Revolution label released the record -- but just barely, selling a few hundred LPs with no promotion to speak of. The copies that made it into shops became the treasured objects of taste-makers around the globe -- which made Corky's Debt To His Father an influential record down the years. As punk rock, new wave, post-punk and all the rest came along, it was inevitable that this lost classic of independent music would be discovered by a wider audience. In 1988, the album was reissued on the UK Glass Records imprint but went out-of-print again in short order. Then in 1994, Drag City brought Corky's Debt To His Father back to the USA, as well as to the CD format for the first time. Additionally, a third pressing of the vinyl was made. The CD has been a perennial favorite ever since -- but after just a few months of robust sales, the LP artwork and jackets were destroyed in a fire, thus putting the end to the life of Corky's Debt To His Father on vinyl once again. Wrapped in a jacket that recalls the halcyon days of solid LP dominance, this new pressing comes with a 7" single featuring the instrumental 'Woof,' which was recorded at the same sessions but not released until The Red Krayola's 2004 compilation CD Singles. The B-side of this single is a never-before heard take on John Cage's '4'33"' played by fellow traveller Sergei McUgly." LP $23 SKU:15355

MAGICAL POWER MAKO- Super Record ( 70s Jap. psych folk ) LP replica sleeve. SALE - Label:PHOENIX RECORDS (UK) Super Record, the second of Magical Power Mako's 20-plus recordings, originally released in 1975, is considered by those that know to be his finest, combining as it does strong elements of Japanese folk music alongside innovative psychedelic sounds and broad musical vistas of extraordinary imagination. Mako was born in Shuzeni Izu in Japan in 1956, and he began his musical education at a young age, making his first public performance in 1973 at the age of 16 with his band Genge in the famous Shibuya Club. Based on these impressive public performances, the precocious Mako was invited to play with one of Japan's foremost contemporary composers, Toru Takemitsu, playing alongside the composer on three film scores, Inheritance For The Future, Petrified Forest and Himiko. The response to his performances was overwhelmingly enthusiastic, elevating Mako to almost god-like status in his native country. Mako's music has often baffled pundits keen to place him in a particular musical slot. As one perplexed scribe opined "Mako's music possesses a certain strange kind of texture. It is certainly what they call rock, but contains elements we can't describe so succinctly. It clearly goes beyond the various genres of music and while full of them all, it sends forth a fierce glow." Another critic wrote: "Adding to the variety of folk music from India, Turkey and Russia, his mandolin or Taisho koto, and especially his marvellously-performed guitar, expresses fully the odor of the soil and mankind's universality". CD $12 SKU:12392

MARIJUANA UNKNOWNS - VA ( 60s Psych ) -Label:STONED RECORDS Marijuana Unknowns is a good idea—a comp full of tracks about pot. Marijuana Unknowns contains a variety of styles, and many of the tracks are late-sixties psych, but about half of them are really just songs that indulge stoner lyrics. The best track on this comp is "Mary Mary" by the Birdwatchers, which sings the praises of pot but with a haunting melody that hints at the perils of drug dependence ("Mary Mary, it's to you that I belong"). COMP LP $14 SKU:15536

MARY JANE - Original Soundtrack 180 gram ( quintessential '60s period piece) Label:REEL TIME 180 gram vinyl reissue. Its soundtrack is a quintessential '60s period piece, with fuzz guitar, bongos, flute, vibes, and more. COMP LP $16 SKU:13935

MOTOR CITY BLUES- VA (great Detroit Blues collection ‘73 ) - Label:ALIVE When one thinks of Detroit, the kind of musical styles that immediately come to mind are the soulful sounds of Motown and primal hard rock like the Stooges, the MC5, and Ted Nugent. While most blues artists are forever associated with the South, Detroit has always been a supporter of blues and roots music. On September 8, 1973, the Ann Arbor Blues & Jazz Festival took place at the Otis Spann Memorial Field, and the 1998 release Motor City Blues compiles the day's highlights. Over 73 minutes in length, the disc is jam-packed with great performances, featuring many obscure artists who prove to be just as talented as the renowned blues giants (Muddy Waters, Albert King, etc.). Some of the artists stray from the standard blues format and incorporate funky rock sounds into their blues, such as Eddie Kirkland's hyper-jamfest "Mojo in Her Backbone" and Little Junior's "I Got My Eyes on You," while the rest of the featured performances are more straight-ahead blues. Other highlights include "24 Years" (Bobo Jenkins), "I Call It Love" (Eddie Burns), "Chicago Breakdown" (Dr. Ross), and "Please Mr. Foreman" (Joe L.), among many others. A truly great blues collection. Greg Prato COMP LP $10 SKU:7047

MUSIC FROM PLANET EARTH-VOL 2 Aliens, Teenie Weenie Men, Moonbeams & the Gayway to Heaven 10” - Label:STAG-O-LEE (GERMANY) It's a perennial starting point for conspiracy theories, the perfect excuse for lost homework or any kind of irrational behavior. Alien intervention solves everything. Things from other planets are a sustainable reason for many unanswerable questions and, across the music industry in the late '50s and early '60s, in the wake of a slew of space-based exploitation movies, a series of 45s and suitably unearthly concept albums emerged to capitalize on this burgeoning, bizarre and mysterious idea. Everyone was viewing far off planets with wonder, amazement and the occasional well-directed sound effect. No-one really knew what aliens could do, so the potential for music to accompany whatever they did was limitless. Over 50 years after these sides were released in a fit of futuristic creativity, we're still asking about the potential of water on Mars, puzzling on the rings of Saturn and wondering if anything really did happen at Roswell. "Aliens stole my dog!" screams the headline in the National Enquirer. Of course they did." --Dave Henderson, MOJO magazine, 2014; Features tracks from Cees & His Skyliners, Kenny Hollywood, Danny Wheeler, Dr. Samuel J. Hoffman, Carl & The Spindletoppers, Russ Garcia, Joe & Rose Lee Maphis, Rusty Wellington, Attilio Mineo, Jean-Jacques Perrey, and Sun Ra. COMP LP $19 SKU:16322

MUSIC FROM PLANET EARTH - VOL 1: Martians, Ray Guns, Flying Saucers & Other Space Junk -Label:STAG-O-LEE (GERMANY) First in a series of three 10" records. Limited edition, comes with a sticker. Each copy also comes with 24x24 cm screenprint of the front cover. Signed by artist Marcel Bontempi. Back in the late 1950s and into the early '60s, everyone seemed to become obsessed with the possibility that science fiction might become science fact. Movie houses and drive-ins across America were fascinated by the idea of a Martian invasion, with a suitably Theremin-powered eerie soundtrack, not to mention the prospect of the rise of unruly robots. Never one to miss jumping on a trend, the prolific Jimmy Haskell produced a whole album of space-based tomfoolery called Countdown for the Imperial label. Similarly, in the UK, Joe Meek produced the concept album I Hear a New World to quench his intrigue in the stars, having already peaked the public's imagination with his "Telstar" hit with The Tornados. Meanwhile, in Belgium, in the process of developing new possibilities for sound recording, Tom Dissevelt and Kid Baltan produced the electronic pulse at the heart of "Song to the Second Moon." Aspiring rockabilly performers and early rock 'n' rollers in the southern states picked up on the phenomena while craning their necks upwards. Billy Lee Riley And The Little Green Men, The Wildetones, Buck Trail and Joe Tate all took the idea to new levels of incredulity, while Lynn Vernon's instrumental chops for the Tennessee-based Cover label just needed a suitable title to put it in the frame. But if those southern performers were looking to the skies for inspiration, legend has it that Sun Ra And His Arkestra were looking down on them from their own planet. COMP LP $19 SKU:16381

OH CANADUH ! - PART 1 90s surf, punk and garage rock bands covering Canadian New Wave Hits of the late 70s and early 80s - Label:LANCE ROCK Oh Canaduh is an LP of 90s surf, punk and garage rock bands covering Canadian New Wave Hits of the late 70s and early 80s. What makes it better than so many 'cover' LPs is that rather than just looking at one act - Link Wray or Sam The Sham, for example - where the choice can get a bit thin, there is an opening up and the opportunity to cover one band's best song. And there are a lot of best songs on this brilliant record. I'd love to hear all the originals. TRACKLISTINGS ON SITE COMP LP $15 SKU:14773

T MODEL FORD- The Ladies Man" - RED VINYL Ltd. edition -Label:ALIVE T-Model's 80-something years old... his Mississippi Driver's License says he's 84, his US Passport says he's 87, and he says he's 88... so you decide. He started playing guitar based on Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, but T's only got one style: his own. T's illiterate, so no use in talking to him about tuning. They call it "open T" because it's his own unique sound. "The Ladies Man" is T-Model Ford's seventh album, and what makes it unique is that it's entirely acoustic. Recorded at Planet Sound Studios in Wichita, Kansas, the album is the product of a live, one-take afternoon session with no overdubs and minimal mixing. T wanted to play acoustic guitar and have 100% control over the record and everyone involved in the project agreed he should do it the way he wanted. The result is pure T Model, with some newer young musician-friends playing along with him. "I'm a ladies man. The ladies follow me everywhere. Some folks don't like white folks. I like the white folks, they helped make me famous and I've made money. The white folks appreciate the blues, they appreciate T-Model. I love white folks." - T-Model Ford LP $14 SKU:11405

T2- 1971- 1972 (180 gram obscure 70s psych prog ) SAALE - Label:ACME LION A low-key description for what in all likelihood will be one of the reissues of the year: “Unreleased studio recordings from 1971 and 1972, which were originally planned as an album release. If this had been released at the time, they would have certainly gone to the premier league of major rock stardom along with Free, Deep Purple, Atomic Rooster etc. Sadly, this was never released and so we are happy to present this previously unheard underground masterpiece.” Tough to argue with the notion of a masterpiece, judging by the band’s only other recordings which have seen release to date. TANGERINE- The Peeling Of.. ( great long-lost album from U.S. hard psychedelic '60s band )..-Label:OUT-SIDER (Spain) The great long-lost album from U.S. hard psychedelic '60s band Tangerine, released in 1971. Musically in the style of Iron Butterfly or Banchee, with great fuzzed-out guitars, booming bass and screaming vocals, including "My Main Woman," a 14-minute long spaced-out track. Remastered sound from the original tapes.
- "The Peeling of Tangerine is a stellar, accomplished album. More than anyone, the band recalls a slightly heavier Santana; the music is full of Latin chord progressions, salsafied and tribal drumming and percussion, and Al Ferraro's beautiful guitar work, as well as some of the dynamics of early-'70s psychedelia and soul." --All Music Guide (4/5) LP $25 SKU:15492

TEE SET - Emotion 180 gram ( Dutch 60s ltd to 300 ) -Label:PSEUDONYM Original album & artwork from December 1966. Limited Edition 300. Black vinyl 180 grams. 350 grams carton sleeve. Japanese plastic bag. In the mid sixties beat groups got quite popular in the Netherlands. The Motions, Golden Earrings, Outsiders and Q65 manifested themselves in the footsteps of The Beatles, Rolling Stones and Pretty Things. In 1966 a new top band entered the scene, this time from Delft. After the hit singles Early In The Morning and Believe What You Say, songs written by Shocking Blue-guitarist Robbie van Leeuwen, in November 1968 the Tee-Set went into the GTB studio to record an album with all new songs. Stimulated by Harry Knipschild, manager Theo Kuppens and singer Peter Tetteroo, with a voice reminiscent of Stevie Winwood, decided to build Dave Van Ronks Dont Leave Me Here into the party song Dont You Leave. The reactions to the album were phenomenal. The trendy Hitweek wrote: "The Tee-Set album is, in one word, fantastic. With a sound that is solid like a brick house. This is the Nederlanger [Dutch LP] of the year! We do not get enthusiastic very fast, but this album is incredibly good. The Dutch Beat is on a roll." 'Dont You Leave' became the Tee-Sets first top 10 hit. The album was also a great success. Unique in that time: Emotion was also released in Italy. Tee-Set continued. Ma Belle Amie became a worldwide hit, and even landed in the U.S. Top 5. She Likes Weeds was a number one in the Netherlands. The fantastic first album Emotion has now been remastered from the original master tapes for the first time. It sounds better than ever and is available with the original artwork. Enjoy the breakthrough of the Tee-Set. LP $25 SKU:13231

TELESCOPES - # Untitled Second - ORANGE VINYL ltd to 500 copies ( psych rock shoegaze) - Label:BOMP The Telescopes were among the most innovative and challenging yet successful artists in Creation Records' "middle period", a leading part of the wave of sonic experimenters who included Spacemen 3, My Bloody Valentine, Spectrum and Spiritualized. Towards the end of their time with Creation, they made their most fully realized album yet, "#' (untitled second). This is the first time this great psychedelic album is being released in the US, and it comes with 3 bonus tracks. "The songs are built on acoustic guitars, then the tricked-out electric guitars are laid on top and garnished with bongos, organs, pianos, and all sorts of classic instruments. Stephen Lawrie's vocals are restrained and semi-emotional and female backing vocals add a touch of sweetness that might otherwise be missing from the record, as the overall atmosphere is very moody and introspective." - AMG LP $14 SKU:11494

THIN LIZZY - Vagabonds of the Western World (’73 ) 180 gram - Label:FUTURE DAYS RECORDINGS Seismic shifts happened between the previous year's Shades of a Blue Orphanage and 1973's Vagabonds of the Western World. Frontman Phil Lynott was still documenting working class life in the group's native Dublin, and the band still featured guitarist Eric Bell and drummer Brian Downey, even if Bell was soon to leave; the shift was in the feel of the album. Between Jim Fitzpatrick's lurid album cover which depicted the band in space, the new, hot-rod-like Thin Lizzy logo, and Lynott's newly throaty howl, it's possibly the first Thin Lizzy album on which they truly could be described as a hard rock band. Vagabonds presented a swaggering confidence, a band buoyed by the success of semi-accidental smash hit 'Whisky in the Jar,' and carved out a moody, dark sound by borrowing bits from the blues, folk, psych, and Celtic music. Check out 'Slow Blues' for proof, and decide whether Lynott or the guitars win the wail-off that begins the track. 'Whisky in the Jar' had been a bone of contention for the band who felt it didn't represent them. Pushed out due to their presence on package tours with rockers Slade and Suzi Quatro, it seemed to seal their fate, and their Vagabonds single, 'The Rocker,' set out their stall for good. The weirdness and idiosyncrasies of Phil Lynott's early songwriting hadn't been ironed out completely: 'The Hero and the Madman' saw them try their hand at acid-fried cowboy rock -- if such a thing ever existed. After the album, and after Bell's departure due to ill health and disillusionment with the music industry, Thin Lizzy were reinvented once again. Lynott recruited two guitarists and the band left Decca to record Nightlife for Phonogram. Their big hits and glory years -- beginning with 1976's Jailbreak -- were still ahead of them, but, with Vagabonds as a centerpiece, Thin Lizzy's early years left behind a cabinet of curiosities." Pressed on 180-gram vinyl. LP $22 SKU:16582
