CAROLYN HESTER COALITION-Magazine (1969 hippie psych fuzz) -Label:MISSING VINYL Both Carolyn Hester Coalition albums are fine examples of US west coast style hippie fuzz psychedelic folk rock, like Neighb’rhood Children, Birmingham Sunday and similar outfits. They were recorded in 1969 and 1970 on the METROMEDIA label and are considered to be a must have for US dreamy folk psych music collectors. First ever reissue on vinyl. Limited edition, deluxe 180g vinyl, exact reproduction of the original first pressing. Great US psychedelic folk rock album from 1970.” A little more info: After a handful of traditional folk albums, Carolyn Hester went on a mini trip with The Carolyn Hester Coalition—a completely different beast, which took her in a psychedelic direction. The albums are fine West Coast-style Hippie fuzz Folk Rock/Pop affairs, with Hester singing in a decidedly non-folky Acid Bubblegum style. Solid all the way through, the albums should appeal to any fan of Neighb'rhood Child'n, Birmingham Sunday, Daisy Chain and similar pop/psych trips. The opening of the debut, ‘Magic, Man,’ is well known due to its inclusion on the “Hippie Goddesses” compilation LP $26 SKU:21074

CAROLYN HESTER COALITION- ST ( 70s teen guitar w.acid bubblegum vocals) -Label:MISSING VINYL 2008 reissue of this album from the American singer/songwriter, originally released in 1969. After a handful of Folk albums, The Carolyn Hester Coalition was a completely different beast, taking her in a Psychedelic direction. The album is a fine West Coast-style Hippie fuzz Folk Rock/Pop affair with Hester singing in a decidedly non-folky Acid Bubblegum style. Solid all the way through, this album should appeal to any fan of Neighb'rhood Child'n, Birmingham Sunday, Daisy Chain and similar semi-light trips. The opening "Magic, Man" is well known due to its inclusion on the Hippie Goddesses compilation. LP $26 SKU:24792

CRASH COFFIN - ST (Private press 1974 psych) Label:MISSING VINYL Crash Coffins eponymous album was originally released privately in 1974 on the MUS-I-COL label. It is very rare and sought after by early 70s US psychedelic collectors worldwide. Not unjustly so, since it contains one of the best psychedelic songs ever recorded (God Loves the Loser) and a couple of other great moody psych tracks. It contains 2 unreleased bonus tracks from the same period. 500 pcs limited edition, deluxe 180g vinyl, heavy original cover and insert with group history. Insert also contains a sketch of how the original cover was supposed to become, if it were not for lack of funds, that led to an original release with plain white covers - half of them carrying Crash Coffins signature. LP $26 SKU:10991

CWT -Hundredweight (1973 Brit heavy rock)-Label:OHRWASCHL RECORDS/KUCKUCK (Germany) The only album from this English heavy rock trio, released on Kuckuck in 1973—one of the heaviest acts on the label. CWT Guest musician Cy Payne is responsible for the brass arrangements, which gives CWT a very special sound; apart from the fantastic guitar and vocal work of Graham Jones, the brass section gives CWT a Motown Soul touch, a real heavy groove. All in all, it makes "The Hundredweight" an interesting album with some faster and softer points. Tracks like ‘Steam Roller’ are devastating, filled with the hardest riffing and rough vocals. It might be accurate to compare CWT with bands like Sir Lord Baltimore or Cactus: they are of a same class, so to speak, and all liked their basic heavy blues rock LP $26 SKU:20784

DEUTER - D (German cosmic psych 1970) Label:MISSING VINYL We say: ““A wonderfully entertaining exploration of drones, swells, rhythms, and melodies. Deuter was clearly a student of Indian ragas, but he took that influence and mixed it with drug-tinged psychedelia and synthesizers to create a vibrant new hybrid. If you're into kraut-rock, world music, ambient, and/or psychedelia, you need to get this album. Also highly recommended to fans of Acid Mothers Temple and the new psychedelia...” Deuter was a product of both East and West. Eckart Rahn, a young record producer at that time, recognized Deuter's talents, and in 1971 released his first recording, “D,” on the then fledgling Kuckuck label (not, we hasten to mention, in any way a “new age” album). Deuter began to go into the mountains to record birds, water and wind to accompany his music; he also began spending much of his time at an ashram in Poona, India. Deuter was also one of the first artists to blend that Eastern influence into his music. Yet he did that blending in such a gentle fashion that it never jarred Western ears, unaccustomed to Eastern rhythms and tonalities. The terrific “D” album is an all solo affair recorded via multi-tracked guitars, electronics, percussion, flutes, and so on, in what looks to be Deuter’s bed-room; very psychedelic processing, at times an almost ADII-like heaviness mixing with more Popol Vuh-ish mystical spaciousness. Perfectly crafted headspace and always a pleasure to absorb, this is one of the finest and most unheralded albums of the early 1970s German scene. An all-time favorite.” label says: “Deuter was one of the earliest multi-instrumental soloists in Germany. He is considered to be one of the pioneers of New Age music and is still active, having released more than 40 albums. D, his first album, was released on the legendary Kuckuck label in 1971 and is considered to be a classic. With guitars, sitar, organ, harmonium, Asian and Oriental percussives, etc., it is a mixture of psychedelic underground rock, cosmic music and ethnic fusion, at places similar to Amon Düül 2, Between and Popol Vuh. Limited edition, deluxe 180g vinyl, exact reproduction of the original first pressing LP $26 SKU:21068

FULL MOON-Moon Fools (1976 progfolk gem LP (140 gr., 300 gr. sleeve) + CD Label:PQR-Disques plusqueréel First ever reissue of the Dutch progfolk gem “Moon Fools”, limited collector’s edition of 200 copies also featuring an exclusive CD with the previously unreleased album “Eternal Rhythm” (1976).Long due for a place in the pantheon of 60s and 70s European progfolk, acid folk and psych folk gems, Full Moon’s first release, Moon Fools, is finally brought back to life. Originally released in 1976, as a limited private pressing of 500 copies that were mostly sold in gigs, "Moon Fools" is a journey to the East, a constant interplay between darkness and light, in quest of musical illumination. Foregrounded by an instrumental dialogue between Johannes Luttik’s unique guitar and Lucas Amor’s tantalizing, weeping violin, a mesmerizing tapestry unfurls. Every second is like a chronotope that combines Johannes’ memoirs from his musical expeditions in India with Lucas’ travels to the Middle-East. Driven by Norman Halsall’s slow yet seething tablas/bongos, the compositions alternate between an utmost of lyricism and free-floating jams. Moon Fools is reissued by PQR-Disques plusqueréel, fully remastered, in a limited, collectors’ only vinyl edition of 200 copies, and includes exclusively a cd with the previously unreleased album "Eternal Rhythm" (recorded in 1976) LP $34 SKU:24795

HANUMAN- ST (1971 German prog Krautrock)180 GRAMLabel:MISSING VINYL The label says: “Hanuman was a post MURPHY BLEND, that recorded this excellent German progressive Krautrock album on the KUCKUCK label in 1971. The lyrics are strongly politically and socially engaged, while it is musically very similar to the first two OUT OF FOCUS albums, but more lyrical. This album, is a perfect example of the early 70s German progressive Krautrock scene and should be part of every serious 70s progressive rock collection.Limited edition, deluxe 180g vinyl, exact reproduction of the original first pressing.Classic German Krautrock album from 1971 Post Murphy Blend outfit.Fully authorized. ABSTRACTS - Hey Let’s Go Now (60s Brit invasion style) Label:BREAKAWAY The Abstracts from Long Island, N.Y. are best known for their classic song 'Always Always'. As one of the first US bands to create an American answer to the British Invasion, their songs were already written and a master plan already in the works when the Beatles started their meteoric rise in the US. But like many of the first wave UK beat bands, The Abstracts were together only for a little more than two years and split when rock and roll moved into a direction that wasn't theirs. Though during this short period, with their storming and ingenuous beat, they recruited a huge following and accomplished a great deal. They were one of the first bands to utilize a light show and besides their sole 45, their legacy contains a cache of unreleased period recordings, some of them made for Columbia Records in 1964. Finally, over four decades later, this album collects the bands entire studio material alongside two excellent sounding 1966 live tracks. An in-depth insert with a wealth of never-before-seen-photos traces the history of the band that brought "Abstractmania" to the New York area in the sixties CD $14 SKU:24265

ACTION -SHADOWS AND REFLECTIONS(4CD BOX THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS 1964-1968)Label:GRAPEFRUIT THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS 1964-1968' - Sixties mod band The Action only released six singles in their lifetime -or seven, if you count a pre-Action single by The Boys- but their legend has grown exponentially since their demise in 1968. They were the first band signed by Beatles producer George Martin after he left EMI to set up his own company AIR Productions. In due course, he produced the band's five singles issued on Parlophone between 1965 and 1967 as well as tracks intended for a never-released album. 'Shadows And Reflections' is far and away the most comprehensive tribute to The Action so far assembled, boasting all their known recordings in the studio and live on radio/TV. Many of the original Parlophone single mixes have never been reissued in their original form on compact disc - until now. The fresh discovery of multi-tracks and rehearsal tapes has led to a whole disc's worth of previously unheard mixes and performances. The box set includes numerous photos of the band in their heyday, with 16,000 words of sleeve-notes by David Wells and a 36-page booklet within a handsome 4-CD digibook. Includes all previous material issued from the band's BBC sessions and post-Parlophone period, suitably remastered by Alec Palao. CD $75 SKU:24501

BABY SHAKES -Turn It Up (POWERPOP)Label:LIL' CHEWY Searing white-hot guitar riff, tough, danceable junkshop glam inspired melody and rhythmic drive glazed with lush, dreamy three part harmony. The band's fourth full-length album, shows what could easily be a contradiction of influences as diverse as Slade, Rubettes, Ramones, Bangles, Berry and the Beatles with increasing nerve and nuance. Baby Shakes' music and lyrics in particular manage to be brash, fun and forceful yet never compromise a soft innocence. CD $15 SKU:24217

BLAIR 1523 (Spacemen 3 related ) - Beautiful Debris ( Psych/Drone ) SAALE -Label:VOXX 060 Brought to us by Sonic Boom of Spacemen 3, this remarkable band from the bucolic shire of Cornwall had a variety of strengths, from strong pop songwriting to a penchant for extended freakout jams, all of which is captured on this, the only record they made before sadly breaking up. To those few fortunate enough to have heard it, it remains an esoteric favorite.. Psychedelic swirl/drone pop Early Floyd/ Elevators sound by his amazing UK band. “This album is worth buying for the cover alone. Dripping with glassy pastels of brilliant greens, pinks, purples, yellows and blues, the art work complements a round of houka hits supremely. The music picks up where Syd Barrett and early Pink Floyd left off in the '60s.” - American Music Press CD $5 SKU:13057

An album that serves as a musical bridge to their critically acclaimed debut '111', while being a fresh exploration of sound and vision. Listeners new to HDC can expect to hear a band that feels familiar yet also unique. Hippie Death Cult are a group with their own musical identity. One that manages to be influenced by great rock and metal bands of the past while not becoming a blueprint of them. CD $16 SKU:24412

VICIOUS VISIONS - RETRODISRESPECT 1980-83 (holy grail in punk rock collector circles,)Label:BUSY BEE Vicious Visions' single 'I Beat You' is a holy grail in punkrock collector circles, not just because of its limited run of only 109 copies but also because it is a MONSTER of a hit. Formed in Halmstad, Vicious Visions soon moved to Berlin and honed their craft in squats in the shadow of the iron wall. They may come from the same little town as Roxette but they sound more Berlin than Halmstad. Where the single was musically defined by the fact that the band at that time didn't have a drummer so they were forced to use a drum machine. 'Retrodisrespective' can broaden the perception of
Vicious Visions as it includes both full band recordings as well as ones by the original core duo behind 'I Beat You'. You'll get to enjoy everything from chaotic punk anthems to minimal Suicide-like no wave. CD $19 SKU:24349

ALEXANDER, WILLIE - Solo Loco (Test Pressing) (70s member of The Lost, The Bagatelle ,The Grass Menagerie, Velvet Underground)Label:Bomp Records 1981. Willie "Loco" Alexander (born 13 January 1943 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American singer and keyboard player based in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He played with The Lost, The Bagatelle and The Grass Menagerie before becoming a member of The Velvet Underground in late 1971, joining fellow Grass Menagerie alumni Doug Yule and Walter Powers and replacing Sterling Morrison, who had gone off to pursue an academic career. With the Velvet Underground, Alexander toured England, Scotland and The Netherlands in support of then-current album Loaded. After completing the tour on November 21, 1971 in Groningen, the band planned to start recording a new album, but band manager Steve Sesnick sent all of the band but Yule home, presumably to retain maximum control of the product (the resulting album was Squeeze, released in 1973) and effectively ending Alexander's time with the band. After leaving The Velvet Underground, he enjoyed a chequered career, both solo and with his Boom Boom Band, that lasts to this day. In-between, Alexander teamed up with Powers to tour France in 1982 for French punk record label New Rose Records, in 1987 opening for Dramarama and in 2006 for a tour with the legendary Boom Boom band. In addition to his storied music career, in 1994, Willie narrated a local film entitled Middle Street made by fellow Gloucester native, independent filmmaker, Henry Ferrini. Willie has also contributed many songs to the soundtracks for Henry's other films. LP $15 SKU:10176

AMBROSE SLADE-BALLZY (1969 WEst Midlands) Label:AUDIO CLARITY West Midlands rockers Slade started out as The 'N Betweens, a band formed by members of The Vendors and The Mavericks; their earliest recordings were issued in France by Barclay. Signed to Fontana in 1969, they became Ambrose Slade, the name inspired by the shoes and handbag worn by a label secretary. The U.S. edition of their debut album, titled 'Ballzy', shows a range of styles and diverse cover tunes: renditions of the Beatles' track 'Martha My Dear' and Marvin Gaye's 'If This World Were Mine' are contrasted by the slinking, guitar-led instrumental, 'Genesis', and blues-rock creeper, 'Roach Daddy'. Soon after these recordings, they changed their direction and became the well-known glamrock band. LP $24 SKU:24266

HYPSTRZ - Hypstrization (Incendiary '70s punk-era performances of '60s garage classics) BLUE VINYL Label:BOMP Records The 1980 garage/soul gem by this legendary Minneapolis outfit, originally released on Voxx and out of print for decades. Entirely remastered from the original master tapes, restored to its original artwork, and lovingly pressed on clear blue vinyl.

REVIEW:
It's ironic that '60s revivalist bands often produce records that are as rare and difficult to find as the records from which their material is sourced. Such is the case for this Midwest band's fantastic 1980 Bomp LP, "Hypstrization!" Despite the backing from Bomp, the album went unnoticed by many ardent garage rock fans, only to attain a level of cult desirability among collectors in later years. The band themselves were an anachronism, reviving mid-60s garage rock in the teeth of late-70s punk, thrilling and confounding audiences in fraternal halls, local ballrooms and bowling alleys throughout the upper Midwest. What made it work, and what comes across so clearly on these live recordings, is that the group was fully committed to the sounds they produced, and the fuel of fellow punk bands (both local like The Suicide Commandos, and god-like, such as The Ramones) made their snarling, thrashing garage rock a lot more than a pose.
Bomp's original LP is included in full as this CD's opening 15 tracks. It's a sweaty evening of garage rock classics - whether or not they were garage rock in the first place. In addition to mid-60s punk anthems like "Riot on Sunset Strip," "Talk Talk" and "96 Tears," the band revs up the soul side "In the Midnight Hour" and "I Go Crazy," and takes The Small Faces' "All or Nothing" out for a heartfelt spin. The non-stop assault, punctuated by occasional song count-offs, follows the performance template the band picked up from The Ramones, as does their combination of hammering guitars topped with melodic vocals. This reissue expands upon the original LP with 18 additional live selections from the same pair of nights at Jay's Longhorn. These extra tracks include more garage-ified soul/funk tunes ("Hold on I'm Coming" "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag"), Nuggets/Pebbles standards ("Action Woman" "Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White"), well-picked British Invasion winners ("Come See Me" "66-5-4-3-2-1" and "I'm Not Talking"), rockabilly rave-ups (Eddie Cochran's "C'mon Everybody"), and some '60s chart oddities (Sgt. Barry Sandler's "Ballad of the Green Berets" and The Shangri-Las "Remember (Walking in the Sand"). Closing out the collection is a trio of live tracks waxed in 2004 (including a stomping of The Sonics' "The Witch"), proving that the band rocks just as frenetically now as they did twenty-five years ago. This is a must have for garage rock fans, original or neo.- hyperbolium LP $18 SKU:11922

PROTAGONISTS-1983 - 1985 (Rare mid 80s Chicago Punk) BLUe Label:ALONA’S DREAM Rare mid-1980's suburban Chicago (Naperville!) punk Thirteen song LP includes the band’s hard to find 7” alongside unreleased studio tracks, demos & live cuts. Naperville’s Protagonists formed in the wake of the first wave of Chicago hardcore punk. Instead of being inspired by the first generation weirdo Chicago punks like Silver Abuse and Tutu & The Pirates or the hardcore legion that followed (AOF, ROTA, Negative Element, etc.), Protagonists drew their motivation from sources as diverse as punk icons Buzzcocks, The Dickies and The Damned to prime era 50’s and 60’s teen anthems (Buddy Holly, Dell Shannon, and The Monkees).

The group formed in a Naperville high school, played local talent shows and teen dance parties, and hooked up with older kids (Reaction Formation) who helped them get radio gigs and put out a tape recorded by Phil Bonnet, influential recording engineer and long-time friend. The band followed up with a 7” for Reaction Formation’s label Nova which garnered positive reviews but they were shortly after pulled apart by the usual strains on the end of adolescent trajectories.

This compilation gathers their original tape, unheard outside of the suburban Chicago teen punk scene, and pairs it with the songs from their hard-to-find 7” EP (originally pressed in 1,000 copies in 1985). The B-side features basement demos of original songs recorded by the band as well some great covers which show they could rock as a punk dance band.

Limited Edition 160 gram blue vinyl (500 pressed) in a 20pt board jacket with full color printed inner sleeve featuring (lots of) previously unseen photos of the band and detailed liner notes. LP $28 SKU:23390

TELESCOPES -As Approved By the Committee FUSCHIA VINYL, last few copiesLabel:BOMP Originally released in the US in 2003 on CD only, this album compiles some of the band's earliest and best work, with material mostly out of print (and all of it previously unreleased in the USA), which originally appeared, with frequent chart success, on labels like Creation and What Goes On. The Telescopes were among the most innovative and challenging yet successful artists in Creation Records' "middle period", a leading part of the wave of sonic experimenters who included Spacemen 3, My Bloody Valentine, Spectrum and Spiritualized. Part of the British shoegazing movement given impetus by the JESUS AND MARY CHAIN and spearheaded by MY BLOODY VALENTINE, the TELESCOPES' sound borrowed from those two bands while adding their own garage punk flavor, experimenting with violins, trumpets, and dynamic contrasts. The vinyl version includes liner notes. Track listing : I Fall She Screams / There Is No Floor / Threadbare / Anticipating Nowhere / Please Before You Go / Silent Water / Everso / Never Learn Not to Love / Celeste / Flying / The Sleepwalk LP $30 SKU:11495
