NEW!

INDEX - Originals Vol. 2 (1969 the holy grail of psych!) Label:LION In February of 2009, Jim Valice of Index discovered three reels in a cardboard box stuffed in a closet of his parents home in Michigan. These songs from 1969 were on those reels. Fourteen original compositions by Index, seven making their vinyl debut, the other seven released for the first time ever, all transferred from the original tapes!

Index was once again a pure power trio by 1969. There was massive demand for Index personal performances. Index was not interested. It was becoming more difficult for guitarist John Ford to travel back from Yale University to Detroit on a weekly basis. Index wanted to push the bounds of their own creativity. They chose to use their limited time together to write and record.

Index were the epitome of a DIY band. They made great use of the newly developed sound on sound (SOS) technology. It allowed Index to record basic tracks (guitars, drums and lead vocals); with SOS they then could add keyboards, additional guitar tracks and vocals. A musical revolution in miniature!

The addition of Tom Ballew on bass in 1968 made a positive impact on Index’s sound. He and drummer Jim Valice laid down a musical foundation in and around which John would weave his guitar. ‘Livin’ In Detroit’ and ‘Kick It Out’ are two perfect examples of that dynamic. Here you’ll also find over-the-top psychedelic numbers like ‘Street Crime’ and the fast version of ‘Yesterday and Today.’ But on this album you'll also find mature romantic ballads filled with angst, such as ‘Love is Here To Stay’ and ‘I Walk Alone.’ The hip-shaking, organ-driven ‘432 Lakeshore’ highlights another groovier aspect to Index’s sound.

The music of Index has been lauded by music heads for decades with good reason: the band has a druggie sound, with songs full of feedback and fuzzy guitars, hazy guitar riffs and loud pushy rhythms. It's wonderful, droning, murky and introspective: the atonal side of late 1960's rock that would leave the most lasting impression on those who would eventually become punk, post-punk and indie rock... artists like Joy Division or the Fall or Felt to name three out of a thousand. Or in the case of the previously unreleased song ‘Something Sweet,’ The Jesus & Mary Chain. It’s as if Index projected their sound through time and space, creating sonic templates for future artists. Index continues to inspire bands all over the world even to this day. Listen to Index and feed your soul.

•All tracks are new to vinyl +this is first release in any format for seven out of the fourteen total tracks

•Includes a 4-panel color insert, written by Index drummer Jim Valice, detailing the band's rock and roll adventures, replete with rare photos.

•Index continues to inspire bands all over the world even to this day. Listen to Index and feed your soul. We mean it. Or else.

RARE CDS AND IMPORTS

AGUATURBIA- S/T COMPLETE TRACKS (1969 fuzz psych from South America) Label:REcord Runner Complete Tracks": all tracks from both albums ("S/T" from 1969 and "Volume 2" from 1970), by one of the best and most important psychedelic bands to emerge from South America in the late 60's/early 70's; very heavy fuzz guitar driven rock with fantastic female vocals (inviting the inevitable comparison to Jefferson Airplane) and English lyrics; impossible to indicate how revolutionary they were-but the fact that the band were naked on their debut, and crucified their singer on the cover of their second album may give you an idea; the addition of three bonus tracks from 1973 makes this the essential issue of the band's work; booklet comes with notes and photos from the band's archive. CD $15 SKU:2654

ARTURO STALTERI-Early Rings: Compositions 1974-1975 (dark weirdness) -Label:MPR after the release of their second (and last) album, "Gudrun," talented Pierrot Lunaire keyboardist tried a solo career the early results of which are gathered on this disc (seventeen tracks from the early 1970's). This is fascinating reminiscent of Durutti Column (believe it or not) more than anything, with dark and weird melodies in any number of stark arrangements; whether playing acoustic piano or Farfisa organ, guitar, balalaika, darbuka, sitar, violin, or glockenspiel (or any of the other instruments he plays on these recordings), Stalteri expressed various influences utilizing his brilliant technique and sensitivity. The song titles all refer to elements of Tolkein’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, so it is not much of a stretch to suggest that the “early rings” in the title of this disc are not accidental, and that perhaps Stalteri was writing a musical score for the stories in his own strange way. Something akin to Sergius Golowin’s moody “Lord Krishna” album, sans lyrics in this case. CD $10 SKU:20298

BAROQUES, LES- Such A Cad (1968 garage psych) 180 gram gatefold Ltd Ed -Label:PSEUDONYM A superb compilation of Dutch heroes LES BAROQUES, featuring A- and B-sides and albumtracks from the years 1965-1968. Les Baroques, founded in the town of Baarn in 1964, are appreciated by connoisseurs for their smart lyrics, compelling melodies, consistently inventive arrangements and unusual instrumentation. With songs ranging from garage-rock to (freak)beat, and from r'n'b to psychedelic pop, this imaginative collection will keep you glued to your stereo from start to finish, over and over again! PRESSED ON 180-gram vinyl and featuring remastered sound (from the original tapes) and a deluxe, heavy gatefold sleeve (incl. many single covers, rare photos, liner notes and interviews), this is an essential release for any fan of energetic, unpolished and slightly odd mid-late '60s music. Edition of 500 copies! LP $20 SKU:16933

BILLY BOND Y LA PESADA- Volumen 3-4 (heavy psych 1972)- Label:CLOUD FOREST A wildly eclectic brew of driving heaviness, looser trippiness, and even some delicate moments from Billy Bond -- a more freewheeling and ambitious mix of post psychedelic wildness from Brazil's Billy Bond & co! Volume 3 from 1972 is made up of 2 lengthy suites, " Lado 1 -- Acustico" and "Lado 2 -- Eectrica Camplementaria". The former is surprisingly lean in spots, with some folky psychedelia in the blender. The latter is full of abrupt, dramatic stop-start dynamics. Volume 4 from '73 includes "No Nos Paran Mas", "Hacia Algun Lugar", Gracias Al Cielo", "Estamos Hartos", "Ano 1939", "Algo Esta Por Suceder" and more. This one is more of a wild and wooly rock & roll set, and a deliciously unpredictable one! CD $10 SKU:7409

BREAD, LOVE & DREAMS- ST 60s hippy psych)-Label:HUGO MONTES e first, and perhaps the dreamiest album from these famed hippy psych purveyors (Decca, 1969), who include David McNiven (he wrote all the lyrics for the amazing Human Beast "Volume One" album), and Carolyn Davis from Looking Glass; flowery yet mournful stuff—fragile and introverted songs in minor keys reminiscent of no one—and all of high quality. CD $10 SKU:21386

CALVIN COOL & the SURF KNOBS-The Surfer's Beat (rare surf and drag album from 1963)-Label:ACID SYMPOSIUM First appearance on CD of this rare surf and drag album from 1963—great stuff that makes the Marketts sound like they were incompetent children banging pots and pans. Taken from the master tapes for superior sound. CD $8 SKU:18946

COOPER,JOHN & PHILIPPA,-The Cooperville Times (1969 Spooky psych folk)-Label:FRESH Spooky psychedelic folk rock (1969) featuring the unmistakable guitar sounds of Julian Laxton (Freedom’s Children). Unquestionably one of the rarest South African albums ever: folk tinged psychedelia, featuring the whimsical vocals of John & Philipa Cooper with guitar by Julian Laxton, which has been hailed by collectors worldwide as comparable to the legendary Mellow Candle or early Jefferson Airplane. Brother/sister John & Philipa Cooper went to Britain shortly after the album was made, and there the story ends. Even so, this amazing album is considered in the same class as those by Billy Nichols, Duncan Browne and Blossom Toes. Well composed underground songs, folk rock, effects—an album full of ideas and masterfully played... it just has the right feel, with the combination of great songs and a '60s art-vibe. The perfect underground folk-rock album CD $10 SKU:20401

ELLIE POP- St (70s psych pop)- Label:World Psychedelia Definitely a pop/psychedelic classic-in-waiting, whose time has perhaps finally come; great songs right from the start, all oozing Beatles harmonics, with tracks such as 'Some Time Ago' and 'Caught In the Rain' especially thick with Beatles influence (thus explaining their appearance on the "Pepperisms" compliation CD $10 SKU:4132

FRIENDS- Fragile ( 60s soft Psych/Folk ) - Label:LION The rarest, and I would dare to say best, folk/psych album from Peter Howell and John Ferdinando, musical brainchildren behind Ithaca, Agincourt, Alice Through the Looking Glass, and Tomorrow Come Someday. This fifth Howell/Ferdinando album had just been completed in or around 1974 when the partnership came to an end. Howell had been working at the BBC as a studio manager since 1970 (he'd provided a stiff upper lip voiceover for John Peels Top Gear shows), but he was now offered a position with the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, which he accepted, and still holds. An album so incredibly rare (only a single acetate exists), that many have doubted the album’s existence… until now! “Friends” still has the recognizable Ithaca and/or Agincourt sound, with lead vocals mainly by Peter Howell mostly, but with all the same elements and participants, and four tracks featuring the lovely vocals of Ruth Cubbin. A pastoral psychedelic folk stroll in the sunshine, with a few tracks reminiscent of 60's soft psych. Very good!!” CD $10 SKU:5895

GROOVE CLUB 3- VA Cambodia Rock Spectactular SAALE -Label:LION Packaged in a deluxe casebook with a 36-page booklet filled with rare photos and the heart-wrenching stories of the most beloved artists in the Khmer Rock movement COMP CD $10 SKU:12986

JARDINE- Look in the Window( lost jewel of late-1960's UK psych)Label:LION Jardine’s album was recorded in three glorious weeks in June 1969, at Sounds Aquarian Studios, a stone’s throw from that justifiably famous fashion hub, Carnaby Street. The sessions were fun. Polydor was supposed to release the album. Musicians dropped in to say "hello" and ended up on the record (uncredited)—among them Peter Frampton, Andrew "Andy" Bown (Herd and Status Quo), and Brian Appleyard (drummer from East of Eden). Singer Mickey Cox had been in Robert Plant’s pre-Led Zeppelin group The Band of Joy—it was Cox, in fact, who became their singer when Plant left the band. But suddenly, thanks to band management problems, the LP was shelved. Keith Law, who had written all of the songs, joined Velvett Fogg for their only album, and Jardine was forgotten. Now, forty years later, you can be among the first to discover the brooding excellence of these tracks, music both strange and sinister, with moments of fragile beauty. There are some very pretty songs here (haunting melodies abound), but there is no escaping the dark side of life (‘Masochists of Strangulation,’ ‘Execution of the Child,’ and monumental dirge ‘Blackbirds of Jardine’, which tells of self-same birds, and the fact that they will “destroy you, and leave you pain, pain, pain”), songs perhaps more akin to the band Comus than to anything else we have encountered from the psychedelic era. There are also heavy guitar solos, churning organ, flute, and flowing sitar, for good measure. A 16-page booklet includes a band history lyrics, and comments on the songs by Keith Law. A lost jewel of late-1960's UK psychedelia, from a short-lived but charismatic band! CD $10 SKU:10134

LIVING SACRIFICE BAND-Beauty for ashes (75-82 West Coast Xtian heavy rock) - Label:ANAZITISI From 1975 to 1982 the Living Sacrifice Band would play literally hundreds of concerts from the west coast to the east coast and privately produce 3 albums between 1977 and 1981. "Beauty for ashes" is their second one, from 1979. Side A contains 5 pleasant xian folk-rock ballads, with beautiful female vocals and excellent flute and keyboards work, reminiscent of early 70's UK bands. Side B seems to be different enough, containing three extended rock (you could even call them heavy rock) tracks with female and male vocals as well and lots of fuzzy, distorted guitars, and wild flute leads. 3 tracks of the album are (co-)written by Jim and Vicky Tsapatoris of Last Call Of Shiloh fame. This is an officialy reissue, represented here with the original B/W cover which is much rarer than the second edition from 1980, with the well-known "Flower Girl" cover. Fully laminated cover. Includes extra triptych (6-pages LP-sized) insert with bio, photos, lyrics and memorabilia and a reproduction of the second 1980 edition's ("Flower Girl") front and back cover. Reproduction of an LSB original poster is also included. Limited to 200 black and 100 coloured copies. 180gr vinyl as usual. PVC protective outsleeve LP $22 SKU:20838

MACKAY,DUNCAN-- Score (70s prog w bonus track)Label:FRESH Rock keyboard genius Duncan Mackay hooks up with heavyweight players like John Wetton (King Crimson, Asia), Steve Harley (Cockney Rebel) and the London Symphony Orchestra on his second album "Score". Released in 1977, it marks a departure from the all-instrumental direction of his debut "Chimera" to a more traditionally structured rock album without losing his prog rock virtuosity. Highlighted by soaring vocals, stellar playing and sweeping epic songs, "Score" is a welcome addition to Duncan's musical legacy." CD $16 SKU:20411

MANDHYLON -Negra ciudad(68-70 Argentine blues psych )LP + color insertLabel:LION From the ashes of the mythical Argentine duo Sandhy & Mandhy—who recorded in 1969 the intensely rare and beloved album “Para Castukis” (reissued by Lion Productions on vinyl and CD), a record suffused with beat and psychedelic influences—comes this resurrection by Mandhy of his "Celestial Stories." Alberto Vanasco Jr. (Mandhy) resumes his musical tale with twelve tracks written between 1968 and 1978. Recorded with the analogue essence and sound of the 70s, using vintage instruments like Farfisa and Hammond organ, and fuzz guitar. Features Argentine rock legends Nexus as the backing band. A record which brings together all of the various crucial elements of Argentine rock music: psychedelia, heavy blues, classic rock, and progressive rock. Stunning LP $22 SKU:20954

NAMELOSERS- Fabulous Sounds From Southern Sweden ( complete collection of 7", flexi and unreleased tracks )-Label:GOT TO HURRY Swedish beat produced to absolute perfection, complete collection of 7", flexi and unreleased tracks from Sweden's leading proponents of wild beat, recorded 1964-1966 CD $8 SKU:6055

NOSTRADAMOS-ST (1972 Greek folk/rock band) Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA Only record from short-lived Greek folk/rock band Nostradamos, originally released on Zodiac in 1972. As the booklet text says, “they made one record, being a quiet record, where the beautiful woman’s voice of Despina Glezou makes a transparent impression, in songs which integrate Greek song styles into the elements of American rock and pop music. There are delicate parts, there are groovy parts—but throughout the album there is a wonderful and a standardized impression. The melodies overflow. The wind that blows is an agreeable one. Other than guitar, bass and drums, there is violin and Hammond, the flute and something that sounds like French horn. It seems like pathos, it seems like folk rock, it seems that what we can all like is in all the band’s pop songs. Whatever you like, maybe you don’t stop wanting to hear this strange record. You can hear it now with sufficiently good sound, with the delicate nuance in evidence. It is transmitted.” All perfectly true! Despina Glezou was a former member of the band Poll who had also worked with George Romanos, Socrates (on the rare "Live At Kyttaro" LP), Dionysis Savvopoulos, and Bourboulia; she makes her claim as most important woman in Greek rock history with her work on this record. Brief band history and discography included in a minimal booklet. CD $10 SKU:20398

OOSTEN, MICHAEL - St (70s hippie psych) w 3 bonus tracks.-Label:WAY GONE + LION PRODUCTIONS (USA) It was sometime during the mid-'60s that the countercultural and rock & roll lifestyles merged. Any kid with an acoustic guitar and songwriting ambition suddenly had accessible role models in the folk and rock worlds to emulate, and plenty of venues throughout America at which to try out their songs and pick up new, progressive musical tricks in the process. Michael Oosten began his musical journey playing in various rock bands. Keeping a band together was difficult. He had begun writing songs that veered away from pop-song copies; and then there was the relative ease and lack of responsibility required for hauling around a guitar. And so, Oosten began a solo career. With a Martin guitar in hand, he took off, playing in coffeehouses and clubs across the country. By the end of 1973, he was ready to record an LP. Oosten settled on five songs and rounded up a couple of friends to fill out his folk/rock/psych sound: some piano from Tom Hennick on ‘Hey Babe,’ vocals from Jan Reek on ‘Garden,’ and bass from Al Byla on ‘Sunny Day.’ True to Oosten's nature, the album was sunny and full of charm, and it reflected his itinerant philosophy of life at the time. University of Wisconsin art professor George Cramer, and Mercury Records graphic artist, John Craig, came up with airbrushed artwork which graces the album's sleeve, and Oosten and friend Lester D'ore (former editor of Chicago countercultural paper Seed and designer of the Yippie flag) holed up at D'ore's Wisconsin commune farm to silkscreen each LP jacket by hand. And what an odd record, full of buoyant psychedelic folk/rock—woodsy, spare, and warm—that sounds as if it could have been recorded on the front porch of a country house. Needless to say, considering the individualistic nature of the album's genesis, marketing and publicity for the album was limited to Oosten driving to radio stations in surrounding cities to hand-deliver copies to DJs. Still, ‘Wayfaring Boy’ received quite a bit of airplay in Madison, and the album as a whole gained solid play on college campuses. Columbia Records expressed interest in Oosten's music; but after a single meeting with the label, it was clear that the album would be too difficult for the mainstream honchos to market. Oosten's whimsical, wayward talk-singing puts us in mind of other meandering vocal faves from various eras (like the Incredible String Band, or the Meatpuppets, to name but two). The album has plenty of lovely musical and instrumental bits, from the bouncy ‘Hey Babe’ to the brightly smiling ‘Sunny Day,’ while on the epic ‘Hungry Horse Montana,’ Oosten switches seamlessly from Celtic picking to Middle Eastern chord progressions. Oosten proves himself a stellar guitarist along the lines of John Fahey or Leo Kottke, only in a more eccentric and percussive mode. This new re-release has bonus tracks: three previously unreleased songs from 1973, to be exact. All told, the work of a true renegade, ripe for rediscovery. Oosten’s own version of his terrific album, exclusively. CD $5 SKU:13363

He joined several pioneering bands of the genre, including The Los Beatniks, Los Náufragos y La Barra de Chocolate. PROBE 10 - There is a Universe (proto-prog 1975 Acid ARchives fave)Label:LION "This masterpiece crawled up my spine like a kundalini snake and proceeded to take the top of my head off. Probe 10 are unquestionably linked to a very specifically American form of proto-prog-into-jazz-rock synthesis of the precise sort Elektra Records used to specialize in, from Tim Buckley's Starsailor to David Stoughton's Transformer. Toss in trumpet fanfare laden acid psych straight out of the C.A. Quintet songbook, the riotously melodic and dense brassy arrangements of McLuhan... and...well...hold on to your hookahs!" —Mutant Sounds CD $8 SKU:20096

REICHEL, ACHIM- AR5 Autovision (70s Legendary underground freak -Label:GERMANOFON: Legendary underground freak from the '70s German head scene.” (Freak Emporium) the label says: "From 1974. Achim Reichel’s fifth excursion with echo-guitar, a collection of group and solo recordings, would be his last studio album in the mind-blowing style. Available again with improved packaging." and a little bio for good measure: German singer, songwriter, musician, and producer Achim Reichel enjoyed a long and varied career that began during the beat boom of the ’60s, when he founded the Rattles, and carried on well into the next millennium, by which time he was still recording albums and performing large-scale rock concerts. Born on January 28, 1944, in Wentorf bei Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Reichel began his music career in 1960, when he, as a singer/guitarist, formed the Rattles with bassist Herbert Hildebrandt in Hamburg. The band, along with the Lords, proved one of Germany’s leading beat bands of the day, for instance touring England with the Rolling Stones in 1963 and touring Germany with the Beatles in 1966. Reichel left the band in 1966 after several albums, including Twist im Star-Club Hamburg (1964), Liverpool Beat (1965), and Hurra! Die Rattles Kommen (1966), and subsequently entered the Bundeswehr (i.e., the German armed forces). Upon Reichel’s departure from the military, he formed another band, Wonderland, whose debut single, “Mocow” (1968), was a Top 15 hit. Next he formed the experimental solo project A.R. & Machines, which debuted with Die Grüne Reise (1971) and followed with a succession of Krautrock-fashioned albums: Echo (1972), 3 (1972), 4 (1973), and Autovision (1974). SANGRE CALIENTE - ST - Gritty rare Latin garage) Label:ORFEON Soulful, funky Latin rock, or rockin' soulful Latin funk, or some other permutation of the aforementioned components. Call it what you like, this album from La Sangre Caliente is a seriously great set of songs. Tight and rhythmic, this is a powerful sound grounded by the excellent rhythm section, to which the group adds horns, alternatingly funky and sinuous guitar lines, combo organ, and energetic lead and backing vocals. All of the elements on display here -- funk, soul, gritty garage rock, and Latin rhythms like mambo -- are wonderfully synthesized. Dig it! CD $15 SKU:19754

SHAKERS,LOS-CONFERENCIA/OTRA VEZ68/71 Uruguayan Rock-Label:CIRCOLO DEL DIS Two lp's on 1 CD. In 1967, "Los Shakers" begin to write what would be considered the "Sergeant Pepper's" by "Los Shakers", "La conferencia secreta del Toto's bar" (Toto's bar secret conference) and in 1968 they finish the arrangements and decide the album concept. The name of the LP is a satire of the American presidents conference that was held in Punta del Este in april 1967, and Toto was the owner of a bar where the Uruguayan musicians met. "La Conferencia" is a complex LP and "Los Shakers" anticipated the fusion of rock with candombe, bossa nova and tango. Subsequently, Hugo and Osvaldo recorded a bossa-jazz LP called "La bossa nova de Hugo y Osvaldo" (Hugo and Osvaldo's bossa-nova), where all of them play the instruments and put an end to the pending contract with the record company, also considered a "must" by bossa-jazz lovers. In 1971, Caio and Peln attempt to take once again the rock style and record an LP called "Otra vez en estudio" (Once again at the studio), inviting for this project three Uruguayan musicians from the "old times" of the 60s, three members of "Los Inocentes" (The Innocents), the twins Hctor and Carlos Capobianco (brothers of Peln) and Rubm Viera (Lorenzo). This LP intends to continue the Shakers' melodic line but without the Fattoruso brothers, and it is a different thing, although it presents some compositions with good harmonies and the album is very well considered by collectors CD $15 SKU:8884

SKORNIK,GUY -Pour Pauwels ( 70s psych ) - Label:LION Skornik was a mystic explorer, psychonaut, and gifted musician, who was immersed in the metaphysical revolutions of his time. He presented television reports, laced with elements of Eastern mysticism, on LSD experiences. And then there was Skornik's album, "Pour Pauwells", inspired by the revolutionary writings of Louis Pauwells, one-time counterculture hero and disciple of esoteric spiritualist G. I. Gurdjieff. These unknown bands include Oracle, Wheatridge, the funereal organ and sludge guitar of Greylock Mansion, a 7 minute Hendrix space fuzz anthem by Frozen Sun and seven more similar unknown bands that leave you with a record full of acid-drenched trippy lyrics, swirling organ, spacey effects and heavy guitar with tons of fuzz and thumpin’ wah-wah. TAJ MAHAL TRAVELLERS- Live Stockholm July, 1971 (psych) DOUBLE - Label:DRONE SYNDICATE (SWEDEN) Tokyo's Taj Mahal Travellers were one of the prime examples of a band more heard-of than actually heard. Their vinyl legacy (the 1972 LP July 15, 1972 released on CBS/Sony Japan; the 1974 2LP August 1974 released on Columbia Japan and recently reissued by P-Vine as a 2CD; one side of the mythical Oz Days Live 2LP compilation released on Oz in 1973 and recently bootlegged as a single LP) could dig a hole in your wallet deeper than the Grand Canyon. However, the recent reissues have spread the gospel and so here is the chance to hear the young Taj Mahal Travellers live in Stockholm during their 'tour' through Europe in 1971. It's one 2-hour long improvised track. Enough free-floating higher key bliss to keep every grown-up space cadet happy for a lot longer. This 2CD set is limited to 1000 copies." From Julian Cope's Japrocksampler: "This album is a discorporated, cerebral dance whose rhythm sounds like six weather Gods emulating the cover of Deep Purple's Fireball by zooming around Silverstone circuit just inches above the track, each urging himself on by making engine noises: 'Eee-oww-urghh-ow!!!!!!!' CD $14 SKU:19043

TETRAGON- Nature ( TRIPPY 70s Krautrock ) -Label:LION An ecology-inspired Krautrock album (1971) from a short-lived group comprised of German school-chums, some of whom had recorded an LP as Trikolon. Tetragon did not conform to any predetermined musical style: they played whatever they pleased, as long as it included groovy Hammond organ and very trippy, flanged wah-wah guitar, in various taut jamming modes that favored jazz/rock fusion à la Miles Davis with a small dose of classical music (adapting a Bach fugue along the way). The result is a bouquet of lush instrumentals, with elements of Egg or the Nice, and quite a bit of T2 to boot. The album was recorded in a converted barn, using a Revox A77 two-track tape recorder and seven microphones placed judiciously to best capture the sound of each instrument. Re-recording wasn1t possible, as the record was mixed live. Yet these challenging conditions inspired the band to great heights: Hendrik Schaper played organ and clavinet simultaneously, with one hand on each keyboard; meanwhile, Jürgen Jaehner unleashed rampaging electric guitar solos, then, in an instant, switched to acoustic guitar for the next musical passage; Schaper didn't own a piano, so he used a pre-amp with a wah-wah pedal to imitate that instruments sound. A virtuoso effort, from start to finish! Tetragon didn't bother contacting any record labels; they didn't their music would interest anyone. A mere 400 copies of the album were released on a private label, named Soma after the drug-induced effect described in Alduous Huxleys Brave New World.
