MAGICAL POWER MAKO- Super Record ( 70s Jap. psych folk ) LP replica sleeve. SALE - Label:PHOENIX RECORDS (UK) Super Record, the second of Magical Power Mako's 20-plus recordings, originally released in 1975, is considered by those that know to be his finest, combining as it does strong elements of Japanese folk music alongside innovative psychedelic sounds and broad musical vistas of extraordinary imagination. Mako was born in Shuzeni Izu in Japan in 1956, and he began his musical education at a young age, making his first public performance in 1973 at the age of 16 with his band Genge in the famous Shibuya Club. Based on these impressive public performances, the precocious Mako was invited to play with one of Japan's foremost contemporary composers, Toru Takemitsu, playing alongside the composer on three film scores, Inheritance For The Future, Petrified Forest and Himiko. The response to his performances was overwhelmingly enthusiastic, elevating Mako to almost god-like status in his native country. Mako's music has often baffled pundits keen to place him in a particular musical slot. As one perplexed scribe opined "Mako's music possesses a certain strange kind of texture. It is certainly what they call rock, but contains elements we can't describe so succinctly. It clearly goes beyond the various genres of music and while full of them all, it sends forth a fierce glow." Another critic wrote: "Adding to the variety of folk music from India, Turkey and Russia, his mandolin or Taisho koto, and especially his marvellously-performed guitar, expresses fully the odor of the soil and mankind's universality". THIN LIZZY - Vagabonds of the Western World (’73 ) 180 gram - Label:FUTURE DAYS RECORDINGS Seismic shifts happened between the previous year's Shades of a Blue Orphanage and 1973's Vagabonds of the Western World. Frontman Phil Lynott was still documenting working class life in the group's native Dublin, and the band still featured guitarist Eric Bell and drummer Brian Downey, even if Bell was soon to leave; the shift was in the feel of the album. Between Jim Fitzpatrick's lurid album cover which depicted the band in space, the new, hot-rod-like Thin Lizzy logo, and Lynott's newly throaty howl, it's possibly the first Thin Lizzy album on which they truly could be described as a hard rock band. Vagabonds presented a swaggering confidence, a band buoyed by the success of semi-accidental smash hit 'Whisky in the Jar,' and carved out a moody, dark sound by borrowing bits from the blues, folk, psych, and Celtic music. Check out 'Slow Blues' for proof, and decide whether Lynott or the guitars win the wail-off that begins the track. 'Whisky in the Jar' had been a bone of contention for the band who felt it didn't represent them. Pushed out due to their presence on package tours with rockers Slade and Suzi Quatro, it seemed to seal their fate, and their Vagabonds single, 'The Rocker,' set out their stall for good. The weirdness and idiosyncrasies of Phil Lynott's early songwriting hadn't been ironed out completely: 'The Hero and the Madman' saw them try their hand at acid-fried cowboy rock -- if such a thing ever existed. After the album, and after Bell's departure due to ill health and disillusionment with the music industry, Thin Lizzy were reinvented once again. Lynott recruited two guitarists and the band left Decca to record Nightlife for Phonogram. Their big hits and glory years -- beginning with 1976's Jailbreak -- were still ahead of them, but, with Vagabonds as a centerpiece, Thin Lizzy's early years left behind a cabinet of curiosities." Pressed on 180-gram vinyl. LP $24 SKU:16582

GUN CLUB- Fire Of Love ( 180 GRAM ) SAALE -Label:MUNSTER Reissue of the legendary and unbeatable first Gun Club LP, originally released on Ruby Records in 1981. Reproduction of the original artwork, with cardboard inner bag with complete liner notes by Lindsay Hutton (Next Big Thing Magazine). JEFFREY LEE PIERCE suffered a lonely, depressing death on March 31st 1996 of a brain hemorrage, after untold years of drug use and alcoholism. Why this even mattered much to anyone lay in a fantastic recor his band THE GUN CLUB recorded 16 years earlier, the masterful FIRE OF LOVE. A visionary and fierce moment in time when The Gun Club took the raw, dripping meat of shopworn Delta Blues and infused it with the energy and fire of the L.A. punk scene. What makes FIRE OF LOVE such a brilliant listen long after its time is that this blatant homage to the Blues was amplified, energized and kicked into overdrive in a new style that combined the ghostlines of the original model with a fast, unwound and supremely energetic beat. Pure fullness of sound and the raw hot throb of records that were made to stand the test of time. FIRE OF LOVE stands among the most influential records of the 80s, with countles musicians declaring their love for the Club. The beginning of a legend. LP $21 SKU:1076

BIPPP...FRENCH SYNTH WAVE 1979/85- VA ( 70s and 80s ) -Label:BORN BAD Born Bad Records presents a compilation of early '80s French synth-wave circa 1975-1985. Original French-only LP version. CD version was licensed to the Everloving label in North America in 2008. Features artists such as Vox Dei, A Trois Dans Les WC, Casino Music and many more. 2006 release. Increasingly detached from the original punk formula, the modern and arty youth of the early '80s set itself to jettison an art form that had lost much of the nihilistic and exhilarating energy of its halcyon days, stuck, as it was, in an endless and noisy regression. Disheartened but eager to experiment and create, a new wave of French musicians followed the beacon of Jacno's seminal '79 hit "Rectangle," a visionary, digital coup de grâce, courtesy of a former punk which dealt the Rickenbacker and Fender-era a fatal blow. The cold and robot-like bips of analogic keyboards took over. Casio, Korg MS-10 and Arp Omni were the new paraphernalia of the new generation -- the ideal conveyers of its retro-futurist elegance and self-professed cold arrogance. They were pinnacles and symbols which were just as potent as the electric guitar in the '50s or the laptop in the '90s. This compilation recalls the glory of a selected few, the cream of the crop of the shooting stars and cult bands that followed in the footsteps of Kas Product, Mathematiques Modernes or Charles De Goal. Featuring Ruth's infinitely charming "Polaroid/Roman/Photo," plus A Trois Dan Les WC, Act, Les Visiteurs Du Soir, Vox Dei, TGV, CKC, Marie Möör, Deux, Vitor Hublot, Visible and Casino Music. YESTERDAY’S CHILDREN - ST ( Classic 1970 psychedelic hard rock ) - Label:AURORA (UK) Classic slab of psychedelic hard rock, originally released in 1970. Nasty CT hard rock quintet with lots of psych meanderings. "A good one for fans of really heavy, greasy hard-rockers. The guitar is loud as hell and the production style is appealingly loud." --The Acid Archives.
This hard-rocking Connecticut quintet comprised vocalist Dennis Croce, his brother Richard on rhythm guitar, ferocious lead guitarist Reggie Wright, bassist Chuck Maher and drummer Ralph Muscatelli. Though they'd been together since 1966, the quintet didn't have an album out until September of 1970, and by then their brand of raucous psychedelic rock was out of fashion -- but in recent years their reputation has grown and grown. BOSSMEN - Personally Yours: The Complete Anthology of the Bossmen w liners, rare photos, booklet. -Label:LION Liner notes by Dick Wagner + reflections on the Bossmen by Bo White and Ryan Sparks ,Massive color booklet with rare photos, Limited to 500 copies.Dick Wagner and his guitar. The Frost. Ursa Major. Lou Reed's "Rock 'n' Roll Animal". Alice Cooper's "Welcome to My Nightmare". Kiss. Aerosmith. Peter Gabriel. Wagner's contribution to rock 'n' roll is immense. And it all started a little bit north of Detroit with the Bossmen. In just three years (1964-67), The Bossmen amassed an impressive run of no less than eight regional number one singles. When you listen to these eighteen original compositions you can sense the long hours and the countless amount of blood, sweat and tears that went into creating them. Whether it's a stinging guitar solo (the sonic blast of an intro on 'Sunshine' comes to mind), a regal four part vocal harmony or a soaring arrangement, each tune bears the distinct early characteristics of the ‘Wagner’ sound that would later bring him success on a global scale and write him into the annals of rock ‘n' roll history. "I look back on the days of The Bossmen with a sort of reverence. These were my first days of recording my own original songs, entering the concert scene and learning the basic trials of making it in the music business. I get chills even today just thinking back on the two or three block line that formed every time we played our home town venue, Daniel’s Den. The Bossmen were the heroes and purveyors of the primal Rock energy for that angelic group of screaming youth. MAN… those were the days!" —Your Boss man, Dick Wagner • Liner notes by Dick Wagner + reflections on the Bossmen by Bo White and Ryan Sparks CD $17 SKU:15879

PIP PROUD - A FRAYING SPACE w 3 bonus tracks, lyrics, 20 page booklet -Label:EM RECORDS (JAPAN) ip Proud, sui generis, could be considered an Australian outsider, with his untutored and uninhibited singing style, his primal guitar playing, his resolutely personal vision captured on recordings from 1967 to the early '70s -- except that, unlike most outsiders, he was loved and accepted, with two of his three album releases on a major label, with frequent television appearances and coverage in music magazines. Heralded in his native land though he was, he maintained a low profile from the early '70s, never made an impact overseas, and his recordings have been difficult to access. This collection has been selected by Proud's biographer David Nichols and will engender a new appreciation of Proud's music. Considered by some as a sort of Antipodean Syd Barrett, listeners will hear that Pip was clearing his own private and primal path, more poet than pop star, despite the media attention. Other than one Velvets-style band track, all songs here feature Pip solo, some with appealingly primitive overdubs. Fans of ramshackle, oddball, weirdo portastudio, lo-fi bedroom pop of the '80s, '90s and beyond, whether of the NZ, UK or U.S. varieties, will find a precursor here. CD includes with three bonus tracks and features a 20-page booklet with liner notes by David Nichols as well as Proud's lyrics. CD $19 SKU:16095
