PEBBLES BOX SET -10 LPs - Label: AIP- Vol 1-10 Set features the cover from rare UBIK version! PEBBLES. THE SERIES THAT INSPIRED THE ENTIRE GARAGE ROCK REVIVAL! In his review of the Pebbles series for Allmusic, Richie Unterberger comments: "Though 1972's Nuggets compilation reawakened listeners to the sounds of mid-'60s garage rock, it only focused on the tip of the iceberg. Behind those forgotten hits and semi-hits lurked hundreds, if not thousands, of regional hits and flops from the same era, most even rawer and cruder. . . . More than any other factor, these compilations [in the Pebbles series] were responsible for the resurgence of interest in garage rock, which remains high among collectors to this day." LEMON PIPERS, THE- Jungle Marmalade ( 68 garage psych)-Label:AURORA Long-awaited CD debut here, complete with digitally remastered sound, detailed background notes, and rare imagesDistancing themselves from the bubblegum with which they're most associated, on their second and final album -- originally issued in the summer of 1968 this chart-topping Ohio quintet incorporated elements of psychedelia, garage rock, and sunshine pop to create a rich, satisfying brew. . PIG RIDER -The Robinson Scratch Theory-Label:GUERSSEN RECORDS Bedroom/lo-fi psychedelia by unsung heroes of the '80s DIY cassette culture scene. Double CD edition includes four bonus tracks that are also available as a free download via Bandcamp. From outsider synth-pop to Barrett-esque lysergic folk; from lo-fi garage-punk to basement prog: acid-fuzz guitars, cheap keyboards, primitive electronics, homemade vibes, and bizarre, funny lyrics. Pig Rider were formed in Kent, UK, in the late '60s by John Mayes and Colin Kitchener. With the help from some friends they recorded and self-released a series of acetate-only psych-folk albums in the mid-'70s (Heterophonies, Bloody Turkey Sandwiches...), which are prime examples of early DIY psychedelic music, highly sought-after since a review of Heterophonies appeared in Richard Morton Jack's Galactic Ramble book. In 2013, collector Alexandre Mansuy (from the influential Somewhere There Is Music blog) found Mayes and Kitchener and was astonished when they told him their story: Heterophonies was only one of their many, many great recordings, 22 in all, including 45s, acetates, and tapes. Thanks to Mansuy, Guerssen is launching a comprehensive Pig Rider reissue campaign, starting with The Robinson Scratch Theory. The compilation includes tracks originally recorded between 1980 and 1986 and released as private cassettes. Pig Rider's sound brings to mind obscure DIY bands like The Desperate Bicycles, Instant Automatons, or Beyond the Implode -- if those bands knew how to write catchy and well-crafted songs. But the most amazing thing is that Pig Rider were creating this kind of music for their own amusement without any knowledge of the post-punk or DIY movement. Although they were listening to bands like the Bonzos, Pink Floyd, and The Misunderstood -- "I played their 'Children of the Sun' 45 until the groove was worn out!" says Kitchener -- Pig Rider claim that the main influence on what they played was the availability of instruments and what they could do with them -- not always what they were designed for -- and always pushing their limits. The Robinson Scratch Theory is presented in master tape sound with an insert/booklet containing detailed liner notes and photos. TThe compilation is released in advance of first-ever reissues of two of Pig Rider's ultra-rare '70s acetates, Bloody Turkey Sandwiches (1974) and Heterophonies (1975). Welcome to the twisted world of one of the truly pioneering DIY psychedelic pop bands. CD $23 SKU:16790

DEVO - Miracle Witness Hour 1977 - COLOR 180 gram - Label:FUTURISMO Spuds rejoice, for the Miracle Witness Hour is at hand! In 1977 DEVO played an intimate show to an eager handful at biker bar turned total dive The Eagle Street Saloon in Cleveland, Ohio. Unbeknown to those canny onlookers, they were to testify to the healing power of DEVO! But what of us now? Beautiful mutants fear not, FUTURISMO are here to rectify your late party syndrome. Televised through the antennas of time we give you DEVO’s most intimate unreleased live record ever - Miracle Witness Hour!Released for the first time on any format, this remastered document of de-evolution is finally given the attention it truly deserves. A rare glimpse into the embryonic stages of the groundbreaking band way before the masses knew how to ‘whip-it good’, the Miracle Witness Hour boasts primal versions of the bands most recalled avant-pop songs, juxtaposed against some of their rarer experimental gems. Seemingly fitting for the kind of off the wall experience that would have DEVO’s dehumanised art house sci-fi set against the backdrop of Eagle Streets dingy and ruptured old world interior, it’s the playful live imperfections in this recording that genuinely make the Miracle Witness Hour an original and intimate experience. ELECTRIC EELS - Die (75 punk )- Label:SUPERIOR VIADUCT Cleveland's electric eels (all lower case in homage to poet e.e. cummings) is America's qRecommended for fans of Dead Boys, Simply Saucer, and Pagans Quintessential proto-punk band. Formed in 1972 by singer Dave E. McManus and guitarists John Morton and Brian McMahon, the group enlisted drummer Nick Knox (later of The Cramps) and producer Paul Marotta to record a flurry of catchy and genuinely fucked-up tunes. After only five legendary live performances -- complete with Dave E. in black leather jacket covered in rat-traps and playing a gas-powered lawnmower on stage -- the eels broke up in 1976 and posthumously released their classic single Agitated on Rough Trade in 1978, blazing a trail for high-art, low-concept rock. As Jon Savage writes in the liner notes, 'There is something heroic about the eels' isolation and uncompromising attitude: a fierceness that you can hear in these songs that still resonates in a different time and world.' This archival LP collects the eels' best material from 1975. From the loud and snotty 'Agitated' and its B-side 'Cyclotron' (which Johan Kugelberg listed as #1 in his top 100 punk singles) to the anarchic anthem 'Jaguar Ride' and the loose, bluesy sludge of 'Anxiety,' the album exorcises the demonic power of the Stooges and Velvets and captures the mystique of these outsider artists inventing a new language. As the eels demand 'Attendance Required' on their flyer for the infamous Special Extermination Music Night, listening is absolutely mandatory for this seminal band. LP $24 SKU:16796

LSD UNDERGROUND 12- 180 gram virgin vinyl, deluxe case w.tip-on-sleeve, insert with in-depth liner notes -Label:LYSERGIA (SWEDEN) Before there was psychedelic music, there was LSD Underground 12. Recorded under mysterious circumstances in Los Angeles in the summer of 1966, this mind-blowing musical journey represents the earliest known case of musicians recording while under the effect of LSD. The result is a pioneering aural kaleidoscope of shifting moods and complex atmospheres unlike anything done before and hardly since. Recorded at a time when psychedelic music did not yet exist as a genre, it is not surprising that the music flows freely across genres, from eerie Middle Eastern desert moods and nocturnal West Coast jazz grooves into full-blown acid-rock guitar soloing, while the hallucinogenic tension is sustained and released through outbursts of piercing avant-garde, Fluxic chaos and minimalist stasis. Sold briefly via mail-order, the 1966 record was only rumored to exist until Lysergia's recent research verified its existence. In view of its pioneering historical status and outstanding musical quality, LSD Underground 12 should rank as one of the greatest psychedelic music discoveries of the past 20 years. A pioneering acid-head sound unlike anything that came before it and hardly anything since... a musical riddle rising from the psychedelic catacombs. Presented by Patrick Lundborg and Lysergia, LSD Underground 12 is available in an exclusive limited LP edition, 180 gram virgin vinyl, housed in a deluxe case with a wrapped tip-on-sleeve, and including an insert with in-depth liner notes. LP $42 SKU:16046

MONKS- Black Time 180 gram-Label:International 2015 repress. 180 gram LP reissue of the classic Black Monk Time LP with a slight title adjustment and alternate artwork. Primitive demented '60s punk at its best. "The Monks' only album is packed with angst anthems on the order of 'Shut Up,' 'I Hate You,' 'Complication,' and 'Drunken Maria.' One of the strangest recordings of all time." --Richie Unterberger LP $19 SKU:16797

NEW RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE- The Adventures of Panama Red-Label:REAL GONE MUSIC If there was ever any doubt that the New Riders of the Purple Sage were the ultimate hippie country rock band -- and having had Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh and Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead as early members meant that there wasn't much -- The Adventures of Panama Red put them to rest. This 1973 album's loosely connected tall tales of drug culture, complete with the album's underground comic book graphics, ensured that this gatefold record was a long-time dorm room favorite for separating out those stems and seeds. But Panama Red (their only gold record) had a lot more going for it than just countercultural kicks -- the band, by now consisting of John Dawson, David Nelson, Dave Torbert, pedal steel ace Buddy Cage and Jefferson Airplane drummer Spencer Dryden -- was much tighter than any outfit this stoned had a right to be, and with songwriting contributions from Peter Rowan (the hit 'Panama Red' and 'Lonesome L.A. Cowboy') and Robert Hunter ('Kick in the Head') as well as from the band's own fine tunesmiths in Dawson and Torbert, the songs were of a uniformly high quality. Production by multi-instrumentalist Norbert Putnam, charts by the Memphis Horns and vocal contributions by Buffy Sainte-Marie and Donna Godchaux helped enshrine this record as one of the finest country-rock outings of the '70s. Now, Real Gone Music is reissuing this classic album for the first time on vinyl, remastered by Vic Anesini at Battery Studios in NYC and lacquer cut by Kevin Gray, with a limited edition pressing of 1000 in -- what else? -- purple vinyl, with the original gatefold album and inner sleeve graphics (with lyrics) intact. Time to add to your stash of essential '70s vinyl!" LP $29 SKU:16793

WHIPLASH! -Crude Unissued New Jersey Rock and Roll-Label:NORTON Compiled by DJ Rex, known for his world famous 'Fools Paradise' show on WFMU, this is a collection ofpreviously unissued gems from New Jersey's lively rock'n'roll past, and plenty of notes and acetate action! ZAKARY THAX- Form the Habit 180 gram gatefold -Label:BEAT ROCKET Both sides of all six of Zakary Thaks' singles are on this last-word compilation, along with three instrumental versions of tracks from the 45s. All of this material has been reissued before on Eva's J-Beck Story 2, with the exception of instrumental versions of "Face to Face" and "Green Crystal Ties." Still, this marks the first time everything's been available in this fidelity in the U.S., bolstered by the inclusion of a lengthy interview with lead singer Chris Gerniottis in the liner notes. It takes its place as one of the very best single-artist '60s garage reissues, the songwriting and musicianship at a far higher level than most '60s garage bands could boast, with just as much insouciant youthful energy. From the punk of "Bad Girl" and the mind-blowing fuzz guitar of "Face to Face" to the Beatlesque pop of "Please," the folk-rock/pop of "Mirror of Yesterday," and the San Francisco-like psychedelia of their final releases (at times even sounding like early Moby Grape), it's all good-to-great stuff. Note, however, that different mixes are used than were heard on some of the original singles, which is particularly noticeable on "Mirror of Yesterday" (where the high mariachi horn parts in the break have been erased) and "Please" (which adds some poppy backup vocals to the bridge). IT’S PSYCHEDELIC BABY-#1 w CD A must-have for fans of Shindig!, Flashback or Ugly Things Magazine!-Label:MERLINS NOSE RECORDS (GERMANY) 130 full-color pages, glossy sleeve, plus a bonus space rock/neo-psychedelia compilation CD! A must-have for fans of Shindig!, Flashback or Ugly Things Magazine! Read what Vernon Joynson has to say about it: The first Country Joe And The Fish album Electric Music for the Mind and Body is one of the very finest examples of psychedelia and when Klemen found it as a 12-year-old among a pile of his dad's records and played it, his life changed forever. His curiosity led him to research deeper and deeper into the whole '60s music scene. He started a blog where he discussed private pressings and over the next few years, with the help of a network of like-minded friends, the blog evolved into the fabulous online magazine that is now It's Psychedelic Baby!. The name is perhaps a little misleading because the magazine's scope is much wider than just psychedelia. Its scope encompasses prog-rock, jazz, blues, folk, punk, metal & avant-garde music. Indeed, Klemen is a huge folk and jazz fan. Above all, the web site has a special focus on obscure and rare music. At the last count this stunning site contained over 500 interviews with a very broad range of artists and people connected with the music business, as well as lots of reviews and articles. He has done so much original research, located so many forgotten artists and even helped some to find record labels. What you have in your hand is the first hard copy version of this magazine! This first edition is primarily dedicated to Texas psychedelia. The state has a very rich and diverse musical tradition, but in the '60s it produced countless tough garage-punk bands and some of the most demented acid-punk records to come out of the U.S. in this era, as well as some seminal hippie-rock bands. Many of these were drawn to the attention of wider audiences in the subsequent years by the pioneering works of David Shutt, whose Journey to Tyme was a brilliant interpretative discographical guide to Texas 1960s punk and psychedelia and by Doug Hanners' equally excellent magazine Not Fade Away, focusing on the Texas music scene in that era. It is largely due to them and other Texas collectors that many obscure Texas recordings of the mid to late '60s found their way onto the many various artists' compilations of '60s punk and psychedelia that emerged in subsequent years. Now, in this new hard copy magazine, Klemen, assisted by other music historians like Kevin Rathert, has traced and interviewed many more artists and the magazine contains features about Powell St. John, Zakary Thaks, The Moving Sidewalks, Lemon Fog, Golden Dawn, Homer, Corpus, and many more. Be sure to read the interview with Michael Jensen (who was a member of the 13th Floor Elevators in the '80s) and shares for the very first time many stories about Roky and different meanings of some of the band's songs. In keeping with the sheer scope of Klemen's antenna, this mag includes many other features, too. He has tracked down the Zambian band Witch and has a fascinating feature (probably the first in hard copy) about the whole '70s Zambian music scene. He's also found Vyto (from First Chips) and there are articles on the Mexican Kaleidoscope, Bodo Molitor, Anonymous, and reviews of new reissues and new psych releases. There is also a fascinating non-music-related feature about "music as medicine." Read on... I promise you will not be disappointed. CD features tracks by: White Hills, Uncle Acid & The Dead Beats, White Hills, Les Indiens, The Oscillation, Get Your Gun, Farflung, Strangers Family Band, Jacco Gardner, Earth Mk.II, Amen Dunes, Aalto, David Greenald.BOOKS & MAGS $22 SKU:16296

AKA- REFLECTION ( 70s heavy blues rock and psych freak-out ) -Label:GRANADILLA MUSIC (GERMANY) AKA's 1970 debut album Do What You Like ( combines earthy, heavily buzzing, and fuzzed-out rock monuments in the vein of classic UK and US bands with a few tunes in the Continental European heavy rock style, with big chorus lines and a bit of a pop thrown in for good measure, plus great melodic ballads and pop tunes in their native Indonesian language. The Indonesian band carried their trademark sound through whole recording career, including Reflection, their fifth album, originally released in 1974 and reissued here for the first time. Different melodies and titles but the same wild crossover of styles, with a change between each and every song. Lush epic ballads, powerful heavy rock, a great beat tune with a flowery feel that drags you straight to the dancehall, and another epic and utterly heavy blues rock and psych freak-out. At the time of its original release, most of the tunes would have seemed retro in the west -- except for the heavy rockers -- but everything here comes well-performed and executed with passion, and the stuff that diverges from the more accessible pop sound will definitely swallow your brain into a gorge of swirling colors. Fans of '60s US west coast dream pop who can stand heavier tunes and devoted music-lovers who go for the classic '60s and early '70s sound will go nuts! CD $16 SKU:16720

DESTROY ALL MONSTERS - Hot Box 1974-1994 2CD w booklet, photos, and unseen artwork - Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) Includes a generously-illustrated booklet featuring photos and artwork never seen before. All tracks have been remastered from recently discovered tapes. Destroy All Monsters are known by some for their role as a bastion of resistance of Detroit's rock; for being, during their second period, the band in which Ron Asheton would reappear. For others, they are a pivotal reference point in the copious but relatively unknown avant-garde underground from the same city, after Thurston Moore and Byron Coley dug up their first recordings in 1996 and the original line-up reunited. Destroy All Monsters comprises two complementary and interconnected poles throughout the saga of the Motor City's music scene, from the University of Michigan's Cooperative Studio for Electronic Music to The Stooges, through to the White Panther Party. In its two incarnations, the experimental -- led by Cary Loren, Jim Shaw and Mike Kelley -- and the high energy one -- with Asheton and Michael Davis from MC5, both featuring the phantasmagorical Niagara in the role of doped-up priestess, Destroy All Monsters are the object of one of the most devotional cults of America's cultural underground, as testified by their abundant artistic and record production. Hot Box 1974-1994 is the first anthology to bring together the best outcome of those two hemispheres, including much unreleased material. CD $24 SKU:16096

BEAT, BEAT, BEATSVILLE! BEATNIK ROCK'N'ROLL- VA -Label:BONGO Great Aussie comp “Some people like to rock. Some people like to roll.
But me, I like to sit around to satisfy my soul.
I like my women short. I like my women tall.
And that’s about the only thing I really dig at all.”
“Hey Daddy-O! Don’t hand me one of that Kerouac and Ginsberg jive. That’s Drag-City! These are the sides I wanna hear. So what if they’re all a put on?! Big Deal. The whole Beat Generation was a put on right from the beginning anyway. Man, I’ll take Maynard G. over Jack K. any day. Or the Wild Man of Wildsville (Lord Buckley guesting on Beany & Cecil dig?!). Those cats know where life’s at. Get Hip. This is the real score, the platter that puts the beat back into beatnik. Endsville!” A crazy set of cool ’50s & ’60s rock & roll, free-garageish sounds, beatnik poetry, hip-jazz and a whole lotta wacky weirdness. A few familiar tracks plus lots of really hard-to-find stuff, compiled into a set of instant party mashers! Absolutely staggering array of sounds, from Herman Munster opening off reading “Beat” poetry to Lord Buckley providing the voice of “Go Man Van Go” as The Wild Man of Wildsville and lots and lots of hipness in between.” TRACKLISTINGS ON SITE COMP CD $14 SKU:16769
