BARRACUDAS- What You Want Is What You Get (garage punk ) Label:NDN “What You Want Is What You Get” – Three minutes or more of squalling, screaming and kicking garage punk genius, flipped by “Somebody ‘05”, The Barracudas reinvention of their timeless “Drop Out With The Barracudas” classic, only this time, some 25 years later, the band is tighter, the playing is harder, and the attitude is more in your face. 45 RPM $5 SKU:12452

SEMI TRUTH - You Call (Barracudas related ) pic slv. -Label:NDN this Semi-Truth single is the first new recording by ex-Barracuda heart and mind, Jeremy Gluck, in some 10 years. 45 RPM $5 SKU:12454

A BOLHA- Um Passo a Frente ( 60s Brazilian Psych) -Label:LION Brazilian band the Bubbles became the toast of the underground Rio de Janeiro scene, backing Tropicalist singer Gal Costas residence at the Sucata night club in 1970. They won the Best Band of the Festival award at the VII FIC of 1971 (International Festival of Songs), the same year they appeared on Lenos Vida y obra de Johnny McCartney album. After venturing to England to attend the Isle of Wight Festival, they decided to experiment with a heavier sound, more akin to UK bands of that era (Deep Purple, Cream, King Crimson, Humble Pie, with a little Beatles White Album in for good measure) than that of their Brazilian cohorts. A name change to A Bolha later, still loaded with verve and swagger, fueled by drugs, they recorded their first album, which has secured a permanent place as one of the best hard psych rock albums to ever emerge from South America. The LP, Um Passo a frente (A step forward), was released in 1973 by the Continental label, in a gatefold cover which was quite luxurious for the era. This masterpiece, now impossibly hard to find as an original, certainly made a name for A Bolha in the pantheon of 1970s Brazilian rock. But success in the early 1970s was not like it had once been in the old Jovem Guarda or Tropicalist days, when bands had weekly TV shows to help them become well-known nationwide‹and eventually, worldwide. In other words, the meager abilities of Continental to promote the album made it a collectors item, not the fate a band would actively seek for their recordings. Luckily, we at Lion Productions are able to present these recordings to the world all over again, with the additional benefit of a 20-page booklet with band history, photos, and comments on the songs by band leader Renato Ledeira. Includes both sides of the bands infamous hard-rocking 1971 single as bonus tracks. CD $12 SKU:10607

BLAIR 1523 (Spacemen 3 related ) - Beautiful Debris ( Psych/Drone ) SAALE -Label:VOXX 060 Brought to us by Sonic Boom of Spacemen 3, this remarkable band from the bucolic shire of Cornwall had a variety of strengths, from strong pop songwriting to a penchant for extended freakout jams, all of which is captured on this, the only record they made before sadly breaking up. To those few fortunate enough to have heard it, it remains an esoteric favorite.. Psychedelic swirl/drone pop Early Floyd/ Elevators sound by his amazing UK band. “This album is worth buying for the cover alone. Dripping with glassy pastels of brilliant greens, pinks, purples, yellows and blues, the art work complements a round of houka hits supremely. The music picks up where Syd Barrett and early Pink Floyd left off in the '60s.” - American Music Press CD $5 SKU:13057

CYNICS - Spinning Wheel Motel (garage ) - Label:GET HIP CD w/ Gatefold Jacket New studio album by Pittsburgh Garage Rock legends! Recorded in October 2010 at Ghetto recorders in Detroit and produced by Jim Diamond CD $10 SKU:12871

HAWK- AFrica She Too Can Cry (1974 African psych gem) - Label:FRESH South Africa’s Led Zeppelin! What do you get when you cross Cream with traditional African tribal vocals and the deep baritone of a master storyteller? Or, what would it sound like if Led Zeppelin swapped out tales of Gollum and the evil one in the depths of Mordor for yarns about brave hunters and village-attacking elephants? It would sound something like South Africa’s Hawk (also known as Jo’burg Hawk). In truth though, even trying to draw any such parallels falls flat for we have never before or since seen the like of Hawk. Their contemporaries were bands such as Freedom’s Children, The Otis Waygood Band and Abstract Truth, all legends in their own right, but no other band flew as close to the African sun and captured its glorious warmth as Hawk did. Arriving on the scene in the early 1970s, Hawk’s unique mixture of progressive, psychedelic rock was informed by a deep reverence for their African roots CD $14 SKU:20057

INVADERS - There’s A Light , There’s A Way (70s African fuzz ) - Label:FRESH South African rock classic from 1971, filled with fuzz psych guitars, funky organ riffs, and great vocals: it sounds like these guys had been listening to Rare Earth, and judging by the guitar solos, maybe some Jimi Hendrix as well!. Errol Gobey (rhythm guitar, vocals) recalls: “It was a lot of hard work and we had very little sleep. In October 1966, we decided to visit Cape Town. The audience loved us, they went crazy, they wouldn’t let us off the stage! Our name spread quickly throughout the Cape. Somehow Trutone Records, which had a branch in the Cape, got to hear about us. One day we were travelling on the N2 in our panel van. We had ‘The Invaders’ painted in huge letters on the side. A white car pulled alongside us and asked us to pull over. We thought we were in trouble and were going to get a fine of some sort. A white guy approached us and asked us if we were interested in a recording contract. We immediately answered, ‘Yes!’” In 1969, the Invaders decided to try to break into the overseas market. They toured in Europe for two months (Germany, Holland, and England); but they had endless hassles and red tape trying to get work permits. The constant hurdles made them decide to go home. In April 1971, shortly after this album was released, The Invaders disbanded “for religious reasons,” (according to Gobey). The CD version has two bonus tracks—covers of ‘Born on the Bayou’ and (strangely) the Creation’s ‘Painter Man.’ CD $14 SKU:12043

JOHN THE CONQUEROR - The Good Life (great bluesy heavy rock) Label:ALIVE There's more soul in the opening 10 seconds of "Get Em" than in most major label output combined in the past decade. - Benjamin Ricci / PERFORMER MAGAZINE CD $10 SKU:15749

JUAN DE LA CRUZ-HEMIG NATIN(GREAT 70S GARAGE PSYCH from the Philippines)Label:VICOR First release of this essential album (1973) by hard-rock powerhouse power trio (a band, not a man) from the Philippines, who flourished in the 1970s-their first studio only album .Includes the garage-psych great, I Wanna Say Yeah. CD $10 SKU:26038

LIGHTNIN' HOPKINS & BILLY BIZOR -Wake Up the Dead (60s Electrified Texas blues -DBL Label:CICADELIC Many have said that Lightnin' Hopkins woke up The Dead when he played San Francisco in the 1960's. So it is appropriate that his song 'Wake Up The Dead' is the centerpiece of this two and a half hour journey into the world of electrified Texas blues. Accompanying Lightnin' on this journey is his long time harmonica player, Billy Bizor. While Lightnin' had a prolific recording career—and a massive reputation as a result of some key stunning sessions—Bizor's stature is relatively obscure due to a lack of solo recordings released during his lifetime. Fortunately, "Wake Up The Dead" seeks to rectify that situation by including the complete June 17, 1968 session with Lightnin' and Bizor, plus all of Bizors' 1969 solo recordings. An added bonus is the remainder of of the April 11,1969 session that is represented on the Lightnin' Hopkin's "Shootin Fire" companion release (CICD-41169). The highlight of the session has to be the nine minutes of outtakes of the colossal Hopkins original, 'Mojo Hand". Never before have the complete tapes from these sessions been released. All tracks are taken from the original three and four track masters to accentuate the magical chemistry between Lightnin' and Bizor. CD $12 SKU:20439

LOONS - Red Dissolving Rays of Light ( 60s style garage psych) - Label:BOMP The third album by critically acclaimed San Diego garage rockers featuring ex-members of the TELL-TALE HEARTS (the infamous Mike Stax of Ugly Things) and the DIABOLIKS. The album features all new material in the band's distinctively original style, which combines the hard, kinetic drive of European freakbeat, the melodic cool of the '66 Sunset Strip, and intense, atmospheric psychedelia. Features special guest appearance by legendary psychedelic steel guitarist GLENN ROSS CAMPBELL of the sixties band the MISUNDERSTOOD CD $10 SKU:11567

MASON, DUTCH - Im Back ( DUBBED by BB KING AS “PRIME MINISTER OF THE BLUES! )LAST FEW COPIES! Label:MARILYN From the ashes of the mythical Argentine duo Sandhy & Mandhy—who recorded in 1969 the intensely rare and beloved album “Para Castukis” (reissued by Lion Productions on vinyl and CD), a record suffused with beat and psychedelic influences—comes this resurrection by Mandhy of his "Celestial Stories." Alberto Vanasco Jr. (Mandhy) resumes his musical tale with twelve tracks written between 1968 and 1978. Recorded with the analogue essence and sound of the 70s, using vintage instruments like Farfisa and Hammond organ, and fuzz guitar. Features Argentine rock legends Nexus as the backing band. A record which brings together all of the various crucial elements of Argentine rock music: psychedelia, heavy blues, classic rock, and progressive rock. Stunning CD $15 SKU:13114

OCCULT DETECTIVE CLUB - Crimes digipack ( With echoes of The Jam, Boys, Clash, Sham 69 ) SAALE - Label:ALIVE With echoes of The Jam, Boys, Clash, Sham 69 and the passion and forward thinking of Billy Bragg, Occult Detective Club is the sound of today with a nod to the past. Taking a cue from an increasingly active underground Texas music scene, they play a mix of first wave punk and new wave music with a focus on the catchy chorus, the thoughtful lyric, and a DIY mentality. The band has previously released their ten song debut LP " Tortures" in the of spring 2010 on Red Lounge, and fellow Texas gore-hounds Hex Dispensers covered one of their songs. Occult Detective Club is formed by Alx Anguiano on vocals/guitars, Andrew Messer on guitars, Chris Reeves on drums, and Tyler Shults on bass. CD $5 SKU:12596

OUTRAGEOUS CHERRY - Seemingly Solid Reality ( glam psych ) - Label:ALIVE After the critically acclaimed glam/psych miasma of 2009's UNIVERSAL MALCONTENTS, and subsequent tours in Europe and the USA, O.C. returned to their analog cave to record Matthew Smith's latest batch of tunes. Throughout SEEMINGLY SOLID REALITY, sweet melodies and harmonies soar over the gnashing of vicious, urban Motor City guitar workouts. Motown-fueled bass and drums throb hypnotically. OUTRAGEOUS CHERRY recently got a lot of love from The NEW P*RNOGRAPHERS who recorded a EP of their songs for Matador titled "Togetherness - The New P*rnographers play Outrageous Cherry" CD $10 SKU:11568

RED KRAYOLA - God Bless the-- CD with booklet Label:CHARLY "The Ground-Breaking 1966 album. Re-mastered by SONIC BOOM. 2CD edition with both the Stereo & the first re-issue of the Mono version. 16 Page Booklet with previously unseen images. Deluxe Media Book - Limited Edition." A low-fi psychedelic classic. With its weird time signatures, loopy bass and drums, Mayo Thompson is a kind of Syd Barrett by way of Texas. Their previous album is a loud, freaked out classic. This album influenced bands as diverse as Galaxie 500 (who covered the catchy ‘Victory Garden’), Spacemen 3, Gastro Del Sol and in spirit if not sound, many of the Chicago bands that involve John McEntire (The Sea and Cake, Tortoise) and many others that record for the Drag City label. Second album by the American experimental rock band Red Krayola, released in May 1968 by the International Artists record label. “‘God Bless the Red Krayola and All Who Sail with It’ bears precious little resemblance to anything else that appeared at the time; it would take a few decades of post-punk experimentalism before Mayo Thompson's vision would have a truly suitable context, though the album's playful undercurrent goes a long way toward making these tiny shards of sound go down easily for the musically open-minded.” The Spin Alternative Record Guide called the album "superb," describing it as "small songs full of quiet terror and acoustic confusion.” Media book packaging is very nice.Along with the Elevators, The Red Crayola were the mainstays of the International Artists label, and are recognised in Psychedelic circles as producing some of the strangest music ever (combining elements of avant-garde and garage with wild, experimental freak-outs and chilling stripped down songs which sounded unlike anything from the 1960s). CD $15 SKU:20346

ROCK ISLAND - ST (Chicago 70s psych ) Label:GEAR FAB Their self-titled debut album from 1970. This Chicago-based rock group provides a lot of hard driving rock, psychedelic, acid and R&B sounds that were so prevalent during the 11/6/2019turn of that decade. They would later morph into Rain, who released another LP in 1972. Several members of the band would later go on to play with Paul McCartney!!" CD $10 SKU:11176

SEASONS & LOS WALKERS- Liverpool at Buenos Aires (1966 rarest of Argentine rock) SAALE! Label:Circolo Del Disco "The SeasonsCircolo Del Disco " arrived in 1965, when they recorded a single for the Microfon label. Then in 1966 they recorded an LP with their own compositions, sung in English. The founder members of The Seasons were Carlos Mellino (later in Alma y Vida) and Alejandro Medina (from Manal). The band’s sound was very much influenced by the three biggest bands in South America—Los Shakers, Los Mockers, and Los Walkers—in other words, Seasons had a real 1960’s South American beat band sound. This production includes the band’s only single as a bonus, and includes extended text about that era. Collectors from around the globe search for the original single and LP by Los Seasons. In the "Record Collectors Dreams 1001" book, the Seasons LP is included among the rarest of Argentine rock. Never before on CD. CD $10 SKU:20347

SOUND OF SAN FRANCISCO- ST w Two Gallants, Coachwhips and more ) Drilled promo - Label:ALIVE 17 exclusive tracks and 13 bands. Features The Coachwhips, Two Gallants (early recording), Boyskout, Black Cat Music, Hotwires Titans, The Flakes, Big Midnight, etc. "There's a bevy of talent boiling over, captured on this surpringly consistent compilation. The hard-rocking Joan Jett-meets-AC/DC riffage of Nagg opens things with the smug "Beauty of the Bitch." the Coachwhips and Boyskout serve up cool synth-heavy tunes. Big Midnight and Black Cat Music layer Iggy Pop-style confessional rock with ominous layers of guitars and organ. the Holy Kiss sounds desperate and desolate like the finest work of Rowland S. Howard and The Aktion deliver solid power-pop hooks. The Sound Of San Francisco is just about as splintered and random as when I'd left it, but the bands of that time seem to have grown exponentially good extremly quickly." - Skyscrapper COMP CD $5 SKU:13080

BRIMSTONE HOWL- Big Deal What’s He Done Lately - GREAT 60s STYLE GARAGE ORANGE VINYL Label:ALIVE Lincoln, NE's favorite garage sons, and their third LP for Alive records.LAST COPIES, tghe other two are out of print. This time the gang went to Costa Mesa, CA, to record "Big Deal. What's He Done Lately?" (the title references a quote from Johnny Ramone about Phil Spector) at The Distillery under the guidance of engineer/producer Mike McHugh (known to produce some of the most heinous, blown-out sounds this side of the galaxy, including Black Lips, Jon Spencer and Andre Williams). The result is considerably more fuzzed than their previous work with Detroit producer Jim Diamond but still pummels. The main characteristic of this album is its heat. Analog from start to finish. Recorded to tape. Mixed to tape. And from tape the wax was cut. This record sounds hot! LP $15 SKU:10948

GARDENS - ST Raised on a diet of Terrence Mckenna,The Beatles, Syd Barrett, Nirvana, and Turkish psych style , - GREEN VINYLLabel:ALIVE Flashes of off-kilter inspiration, piano-organ blues and quirky a cappella lend an artsy flourish to Gardens’ primal rock ‘n’ roll base. HACIENDA - Big Red and Barbacoa ( prod by Dan of the Black Keys ) (YELLOW VINYL ltd ed last copies ) Label:ALIVE BIG RED & BARBACOA is the second album by South Texas' HACIENDA, and like its predecessor Loud Is The Night (Alive 2008), it was produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. Recorded on the tail-end of a year playing clubs and festivals across North America, Australia and Europe (opening for Dan Auerbach and Dr. Dog, and more recently for Alberta Cross), this new album brings heavier grooves and flavor to the '60s harmonies sound the band is known for. The result is a blend of Tex-Mex roots rock, retro-pop and R&B that can only be described as South Texas Soul. BIG RED & BARBACOA captures the attitude of a band ready to throw pretension to the roadside and play rock'n'roll the way it was intended.

[BEST OF WHAT'S NEXT - FEB. 2010] ...a mix of Beach Boys-esque harmonies, classic Stax Records grooves and a guitar sound that recalls the rootsier side of '60s pop-rock with its swirling melodies and irresistible swagger. - PASTE MAGAZINE

Hacienda write eccentric pop songs and play them with flashes of T. Rex and the Friends-era Beach Boys. Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys produced the record with a kitchen-jam, bathroom-echo touch, like a central-Texas version of Paul McCartney's 1970 home-made solo debut - ROLLING STONE / FRICKE'S PICKS

Exhilarating. - THE WASHINGTON POST

Hacienda has a particular ego-less way of reviving these timeless sounds, as it they invited you into their living room for a vinyl session of The Beach Boys, The Band, Gram Parsons and some mild hallucinogenics, free and easy and light as a feather. - AMERICAN SONGWRITER

...satisfies from start to finish. - MY OLD KENTUCKY BLOG

...a slice of retro-pop heaven. These guys unapologetically wear their influences on their floral print sleeves, and thank goodness they do. - HOME THEATER AND HIGH FIDELITY LP $18 SKU:11391

JAHN, LOTHAR -Dreams of 75 (1975 psych/Krautrock) hand numbered blue swirl Label:LION Lothar Jahn’s "February '75” single was released by the German label Sound Records in 1977. It was a very unusual record, somewhere between psychedelic, folk, and Krautrock. It was reviewed thus on Discogs: “A mysterious journey through Cosmic Psych Folk Kraut, whatever you may call it. Fantastic, from beginning to end. Another Kraut on 45 milestone.” The newly recorded album, “Dreams of ’75,” is an extended riff on the original single, taking that smaller vision as a starting point and then launching into a weirder and wilder psychedelic/progressive stereoscopic headspace than was evident (or possible) on the original single. Lion exclusive: 150x hand-numbered copies on Transparent Blue w/Black Swirl vinyl
•Comes with an 8-page booklet giving Jahn’s thoughts on his life and the dreams which provoked this album.

JEFF CARNEY - Live Electronic Music-(hypnotic 80s underground) SAALE! Label:LION Jeff Carney's sophomore effort for audioFile (1989) could not have been criticized were it to have remained in similar territory as the electronic wall of sound he had created on Imperfect Space Journeys. Instead, he created a more sparse, evolving tapestry of analog timbres. Using an exclusively vintage analog arsenal and recording live without overdubbing, Carney pushed forward with new ideas and uniquely developing sweeps of filter madness. The side-long 'Questions (Unanswered)’ is immensely innovative: the sounds are at once organic and of the earth, yet futuristic in their skyward drones and hypnotic hooks. Additional layers are gradually added, like a bubbling alien swarm tone that comes in successive falling surges, followed by cosmic whooshing and howling rushes of wind. The effect is simultaneously meditative and intense.

And live. As Carney said, "I was quite proud because I managed to essentially perform the entire composition without error. Just about every sound came in at the right level. Every part was performed without mistake. And nothing was adjusted or corrected. This was what happened on the spot.” Carney explores different territory on the two B-side tracks: ‘ARP 2600 Improvisation’ is like a master class of cosmic effects. It feels like the soundtrack to a 1950s sci-fi movie, recalling Forbidden Planet’s most electrifying moments, but also at times sounding like sci-fi flick meets battle-in-space video game. ‘Pensive Mood’ roars out of the starting gate with a high octane electronic arpeggiated pattern, creating a somewhat white-knuckled brand of “pensive” contemplation. This is the most minimal piece of the set, with the incessant, almost imperceptibly evolving arrangement having a somewhat edge-of-your-seat hypnotic effect.

The album was completely uninfluenced by the digital trends that were dominating the era, and stands as a landmark example of the uncompromising ethos adopted by many artists of the 1980's underground. Featuring an all new essay and interview with Jeff Carney by Jerry Kranitz (author of the "Cassette Culture" book and publisher for nearly two decades of Aural Innovations), this is the definitive reissue of Live Electronic Music.

•24bit/96kHz transfers taken from the original analog tapes
•Mastered for vinyl by legendary Krautrock musician and sound engineer Eroc
•Recorded live without overdubbing using exclusively vintage analog equipment
•Comes with an eight-page LP-sized color insert booklet written by Jerry Kranitz (author of Cassette Culture and publisher for nearly two decades of Aural Innovations) LP $14 SKU:24941

JJ & THE REAL JERKS- Mess You Up (raging garage-punk)-Label:HEAVY MEDICATION POLISH IMPORT For those late to the party, L.A.’s JJ & The Real Jerks have been kicking around since 2009, bashing out a handful of singles, e.p.’s and a full-length platter for labels like Dead Beat and Pat Todd’s Rankoutsider Records. Now, these Sons of The Dolls are back in business with their strongest batch of sleazy barroom rock ‘n’ roll yet.

Steeped in boozy swagger and Stonesy git-down, the eight songs on “Mess You Up” do exactly that. Joe “JJ” Jennings and company mix their Johnny Thunders with SoCal punk’n’roll from the glory days of The Humpers and The Dragons and add a spritz of Buzzcocks’ melodic attack. They come blazing out of the gate with dual-guitar overdrive and thrashing rhythm on “Built to Blast”, segue into hooky-as-hell barstool anthems like “Ten Cent Beer Night” and “Lost Souls Pub”, then celebrate the miracle of life with uplifting ditties like “Dead in the Water”, “Deprecation Blues” and “Sinking Feeling”. This is one fun, raging garage-punk platter that’ll spend some serious time on your turntable. LP $17 SKU:25417

KARAKORUM - PRISON BITTERNESS (1969 studio demos, Keith Moon fave!) Label:SEELIE COURT The only surviving 1969 studio demos of this important underground band. Keith Moon raved about them, they were known for their live reputation. Karakorums sonic inner space inevitably conjures up images of heavy cannabis and marijuana usage. The band lock into darkly introverted grooves, with complex patterns, eastern influences, and left field lyricism and vocal, heavy guitar led tracks and the use of wah-wah. They were ultimately uncategorisable, poetic, and this album needs multiple plays to connect to. LP $30 SKU:25510

KHAZAD DOOM-Cherry Town (60s Beatles-esque garage-psych) - Label:HALLUCINATIONS Recorded in 1967 prior to the legendary Level 6 1/2 album, this is a brilliant album of fantasy Beatles-esque garage psychedelia. The whole package sounds and looks brilliant LP $17 SKU:24814

KID GULLIVER -Kismet (power-pop band from Boston.)Label:PLATO UTRECHT Kid Gulliver is a power-pop band from Boston. Their music is a powerful blend of driving rhythm and sweet, hooky melodies with vocal harmony. Their songs draw on influences from a vast catalog which includes everything from 1960s British Invasion and 1970s classic rock and punk to 1980s new wave and 1990s alternative and indie pop. Yes, a bit "old school," but always fresh sounding and original. No need for auto tune pitch correction here. Never needed it, never will. Singer/guitarist Simone Berk, whose previous band Sugar Snow garnered critical acclaim with her moody compositions, delivers vocals with a style that is instantly recognizable. David Armillotti, former member of Cookiecutter Girl and Hall Of Mirrors, brings a guitar style both aggressive and melodic. Their prelaunch single on Red on Red, 'Forget About Him,' reached number 1 on the Radio Indie Alliance Top 75, a global chart compilation from hundreds of indie terrestrial, college, streaming, and satellite radio shows, and they've been dominating the indie charts ever since. Previously only available on CD, Plato Utrecht Records is proud to offer this on the only format that matters. LP $22 SKU:25738

KING BEE -ST (1979-81 unreleased and live )Label:DOOMTOWN SOUNDS More than 40 YEARS IN THE MAKING! Doomtown Sounds, in collaboration with Toody Cole and the surviving members of the band, is proud to present the release of the King Bee album, containing a dozen unreleased studio and live songs recorded between 1977 and 1981. King Bee was Fred Cole's late '70s band, and their music occupied an important position in Fred's development as a songwriter. This often-overlooked part of Fred's career saw him combining elements of his '60s roots with this new sound called punk rock, and it was this synthesis of styles which led to the Rats, and, eventually, to the creation of Dead Moon. These missing gems are being made available here for the first time ever, recovered from archived tapes, carefully restored and mastered. Compiled from master reels and cassette tapes that had been stored in a box for more than 40 years, this album contains more than a dozen unreleased studio and live tracks, as well as the three tracks from the band's 1978 7" EP. LP $29 SKU:25516

KROKODIL -GETTING UP FOR THE MORNING(1969 prog psych) w insert Label:LONGHAIR Founded in 1969 Krokodil was a Swiss band that emerged in the late '60s as a blues rock band that played and recorded progressive psychedelic underground music in the style of bands like Amon Düül II. From their second album 'Swamp' they started to introduce a psychedelic sound to their music, a sound which is very much dominant on 'Invisible World Revealed.' On that album they used Mellotron, organ, harmonica and flute all backed up by an acoustic guitar which give the album an exotic and stoned feeling to it. The blues here gives way to the psychedelic, ethnic sound and vocal harmonies, but it is still there. 'Getting Up For The Morning' continues the same style (on famous German label Bacillus) but they became more succinct in their approach to composition and it was more of a song oriented album than its predecessor. As expected of the band, there's a ton of bluesy jams, fragile ballads and acid-rock fire, but the second side of the LP brings some subtle krautrock elements mixed in, and over all there's a very upbeat quality to the music that is truly infectious and a joy to listen to. Drummer Düde says: "After our label Liberty went bankrupt soon we were back in the studio with Dieter Dierks for our fourth album 'Getting Up For The Morning' and the single 'Krock'n Roll'/'A Mighty Long Way To Go.' Both titles of the 7" are bonustracks on this edition! The album opener 'Marzipan' is an energetic harmonica-fuelled and acid-rock burning electric guitar powered gutsy swamp-rocker. Full of lengthy solos, one or two moments even briefly reminding of Jimi Hendrix, it makes for a kick-ass opener, but the best is yet to come. 'And I Know' is a blissful acid ballad with a drowsy melody, it's full of delicate and dreamy David Gilmour-inspired guitar licks, and the piece could have easily appeared on any of those early acid/psych albums from Pink Floyd. Electric piano ripples, warm group harmonies in the chorus, while wafting harmonica brings a dusty old western sound, and when the soaring Mellotron arrives in the second half, it takes on a restrained near-orchestral grandiosity to get swept up in. 'Rabatz' is a short funky southern rocker with dirty lead guitar slinging and 'Was There A Time' is a brief psychedelic interlude to close the first side, a sitar drone with mind-bending narration over the top! The second side brings some light but welcome krautrock flavours to the album, instantly noticeable on 'Schooldays,' just listen for the fuzzy distorted guitar riffing in the background, stoned phasing electronics and the rattling maddening drumming. Drifting flute darts around, funky wah-wah guitar powers through and treated harmonica hovers in the air. Next up, being the sixth track, of course it makes sense to title it 'Song No. 2.' It's an acid-folk vocal ballad bookended with wasted floating acoustic guitar and sleepy hazy harmonica, Mellotron trickles, the warmest bass playing (that even takes flight with tasty soloing in the second half, almost like it's actually singing), before the middle gently moves up in tempo into a joyful sprightly electric guitar chill-out just like the first two Agitation Free albums. The rambunctious drumming and more urgent guitar strums just before the end even briefly remind of Amon Düül 2. 'The 12th Of March' is a frantic bluesy rocker to close on, full of heavy guitar grooves, a joyful and catchy vocal, more leaping harmonica, and the purring bass playing especially rumbles with purpose here, but it's a shame about the uninspired fade-out during a scorching electric guitar solo. The album was newly remastered and comes with insert sheet with story and photos. LP $28 SKU:25766

MCKAY-Into You ( WEEDBURNER- One of the holy grails of 70s Indianapolis private-pressdom ) -Label:LION w Updated liner notes and exactly-transcribed lyrics. One of the "holy grails" of Indianapolis private-pressdom (surpassed only by Zerfas and Anonymous) available again in its original format! Ray "McKay" Pierle and his musically-adept brothers and friends partied, jammed and partied some more on Indy's south side throughout the mid-70's, forming a band (Loos) which managed to garner zero media attention at the time. However, Ray's trusty Teac four-track was always close at hand and countless hours of home recordings were induced onto magnetic tape, as well as a few songs laid down at a local studio. After a brief hiatus, the core members reconvened as McKay, and created their sole document, the 300-press "Into You" album (1978); the LP was given to friends and family and consigned in nearby record shoppes. A mere 15 years had to pass before the collecting world discovered the highly-personal songwriting, tight playing, and not-so-well-hidden West-Coast stylistic touches. A vinyl reissue was locally produced back then but it's long gone, so here's a new all analogue, master tape edition for a new generation to savor. •All-analogue pressing, cut directly from the original master tapes. •Licensed from Ray Pierle with his full cooperation and support. •Updated liner notes and exactly-transcribed lyrics.
